#161: Miami Spring Practice - Feed Me and Call Me Coach

jeudi 6 mars 2025Durée 01:30:23

Scoop started a bit in the group chat this week regarding a current picture of a former rocker, that turned out to be Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit... and he's getting the full backstory about the band on the "Disrespectfully" podcast, which is a wild story. And as we get down to Greentree we get into the settlement of the FSU and Clemson lawsuit against the ACC, with payouts coming to teams with great seasons - and Miami is really the big winner here!

We also start jumping into Spring practice and marvel at the fact that guys we covered only a few years ago are already seniors, and just how fast those years go by. And a huge salute to Jimmy Johnson, who retired this week after a 31 year career at Fox and over 34 years as a coach, a true UM legend! Plus a look around the defensive side of the ball has us slightly optimistic as we start to get a pulse from the practice fields. Recruiting has also been going strong, which has always been Mario's strong suit, as we start to see where some of the newest recruits will fall into the program.

The Tennessee Titans have set up their meeting with Cam Ward - which for some reason, Toast does not like - as it looks like he may end up there after all. And the Wheel of Topics takes us from Mike Tomlin's coaching tenure, the John Cena heel turn and what that means for the resurgence of the WWE, everyone has some hot takes on the Travis Hunter vs Shohei Ohtani debate, and our most underrated bands.

Plus we close the show, as always, with a wild round of Five Questions - including two people who would light it up at a press conference, what we'd get as our next tattoos, the sign we'd hold up at the State of the Union, our last "we need to get out of here" moments, the job where you need a high level of tolerance for being yelled at, and your feel-good "don't care about calories" meal.

This episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com, Underdog Fantasy & Manscaped.

#160: Miami Spring Football & Running Backs Hype - Play Peek-A-Boo with Her

jeudi 27 février 2025Durée 01:25:49

Toast opens this week's show by sharing a story about how his wife was attacked by a wild animal during her morning Yoga... as she had an encounter with a puss caterpillar. We didn't realize that they were extremely poisonous but Toast learned when his wife almost ended up in the emergency room.

We go down to Greentree and start with the news that Miami's new head basketball coach will be Duke assistant Jai Lucas, with the news breaking before the school was likely ready to announce it. He is a great recruiter (while wearing the Kentucky and Duke logo) and Miami should be able to bounce back with some talent in the coming seasons, if the gamble pays off. And could a former Duke coach flip the Boozer twins from Duke?

Plus we do our best CSI investigation into the Carson Beck stolen vehicles (even though they were found a day later) as we talk about how scary it is to have someone in your home when you're sleeping. And Spring Football is HERE starting Monday and we can't believe how fast it came up. Scoop is hyped for the explosive running back tandem of Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle, with very high praise for both guys, and just how deep they are in that position group. Even though Carson Beck still isn't throwing, we will likely have eyes on Luke Nickel to see if he can elevate to the back-up position over Emory and Judd.

It's NFL Combine week and we try to figure out if Tennessee is going to go ahead and draft Cam Ward at #1 or they will pass him down to the Browns at #2. That spins us into a debate about who had the worse contract - Deshaun Watson or Daniel Jones. And we have no idea how we ended up debating Bill Clinton's body count, yet here we are.

A WILD wheel of topics includes the Mary Kate Cornett story that has taken over social media, the couple who was forced to sit next to a dead woman for four hours on a Qatar Airways flight, and how ugly the world's first flying car looks. Plus we close it out as always with a round of

Five Questions, which includes the best martial arts movie ever made, something we see lots of people do that we'd never do, our most shallow dating requirements, what we'd do with an extra hour a day and the best rock song to play during a protest.

#153: Miami Transfers and Secondary - Who Wants to Be Scoop's Bunny?

jeudi 9 janvier 2025Durée 01:12:05

It's an off season show that opens with conversation about the crazy wild fires burning out of control in California, as we have friends affected by the massive destruction. But we quickly pivot to Greentree as Toast asks the show if we can remember the last time a Miami player was heavily considered to go #1 in the NFL Draft. And we're quickly reminded that Vinny Testaverde and Russell Maryland were the last two to do it, and we debate if Cam will be associated more with Wazzu than the U in the NFL.

We also try to make sense of the Portal madness happening around college football with another year of NIL setting the tone. And with more transfers leaving the program, only to over perform at their next stop, we also try to untangle where that fall off comes from.

We have absolutely dropped some bags to rebuild the secondary and we’re all super confident it will show up on the field. While the backend of the defense has been addressed, the QB room has not. We talked about our three-deep room and there’s not a lot of confidence, especially when you realize Al Golden’s defense will be the first thing we face week 1.

And of course we close it out with Five Questions, which include the strangest places we've explored, weird rumors we've heard about ourselves, and what we would do with a Presidential pardon.

#88: Randolph White

jeudi 21 septembre 2023Durée 01:08:11

It's Temple week - and while the point spread in this game is higher than expected, the Boys break down what they expect to see from Miami's running game and defensive front in the first road game of the season. And we are all on a high after Shannon telling Mario he wanted to "end this m-f'er" at the end of the first half against Bethune-Cookman.

Miami also brought home the ACC's offensive and defensive player of the week... but does it count any less because it was against Bethune-Cookman? And we are all floored about how bad Alabama has looked to start the year, after falling out of the Top 10 and coming up short of Miami's streak of 137 weeks in the Top 10.

There's also a LOT to digest this week in regards to Colorado and UM alum Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson down on the sidelines. And we are HONORED to welcome OBB ambassador and national media sensation Shelton Douthett to the show after he became a mainstream media story this week.

We get into our Week 4 Pick 'Ems, some INCREDIBLE audio of the week, and we welcome in another "weird" but hilarious edition of the AI Orange Bowl Boys.

Week 3 Recap: 48-7 WIN over Bethune-Cookman

vendredi 15 septembre 2023Durée 27:19

It's so refreshing to have another week where things went almost exactly according to plan. Tyler was electric, the receivers and backs cruised through the Bethune defense, and it was Emory Williams who got the second half instead of Jacurri.

We were all impressed to see that comeback drive at the end of the first half, with Mario using all our timeouts to get the ball back, an intensity we haven't seen at the end of the half in a long time. And praise all around for the speed of Chris Johnson.

On the road next week at Temple after 10 days off, let's keep it rolling! As AI Scoop says... "Let's Gooooo".

#87: Disrespectful to Football (#SusansCats)

jeudi 14 septembre 2023Durée 01:10:50

It's Bethune-Cookman this week - and before we even get to Greentree, everyone is still flying high after rolling A&M last week. Shannon's approach, and the things he was saying after the game, made us all feel nostalgic about the Miami football days of old. Toast is big on the defense, Ro enjoyed breaking down the film and Scoop lays out this week's captains.

We also fantasize about FSU vs UM rivalries renewed, take a look back at our 4 All-ACC starters from Week 2, and renew the debate about who comes into the game when Tyler comes out against Bethune-Cookman.

Kirk Herbstreit also comes under fire for his comments about the UM fanbase for the game against Texas A&M. We also dive into Jimbo's comments about the botched two-point conversion and throw out our Week 3 pick 'ems!

Plus another classic edition of the AI Orange Bowls as they present a preview of the Bethune-Cookman game. Let's go!

Week 2 Recap: 48-33 WIN over Texas A&M

dimanche 10 septembre 2023Durée 48:07

It was a roller coaster of a game, but a HUGE WIN for the University of Miami, as they knock off the Texas A&M Aggies 48-33 at Hard Rock Stadium. Toast and Scoop agree that it was the best they felt leaving the stadium after a big win in a long time, and Roman got loud in a Chilis because he's out on the road for his son's baseball tournament.

Everyone throws roses at Tyler for an epic performance, and reinforces that Dawson's offensive strategy is built for a guy like TVD. When A&M took away the run, they adjusted, and Tyler showed the nation just how good he is. Plus great play from the O-Line down the stretch, some great play in the secondary, and everyone is relieved that Kam appears to be just fine after the scary scene on the field.

Get ready for a short week, with Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night, and everyone needs to see a huge blowout to really keep the momentum moving. Overall a GREAT week to be a Canes fan!!

#86: Get After It With Your Front End

jeudi 7 septembre 2023Durée 01:22:54

It's Texas A&M week!! And while everyone is still optimistic, after watching A&M play last weekend we all need to know if our backs can hold up against their receivers. Roman also throws praise at the offensive line after doing Student of the Game after Week 1 - catch up on that now on our YouTube channel, Ro breaks down the game film! And a big question from Scoop - if you don't see what you want in a close win, is it still a win?

Scoop also revisits his commentary about UM only using about 15% of their playbook in Week 1, largely because Miami of Ohio allowed them to do it. We also marvel at Jimbo Fisher's knowledge of the Canes depth chart, and we all lay out our Keys to the Game against Texas A&M.

ACC expansion, with the schools they added, makes us officially the smartest conference in college football and destined to leave in a few years, And everyone has to admit how wrong we were about Florida State and Clemson. We also get the AI Orange Bowl Boys breaking down tactics for our back-up quarterbacks, and our full Week 2 picks.

Week 1 Recap: 38-3 WIN over Miami of Ohio

samedi 2 septembre 2023Durée 54:39

Our first recap show of the year is a fun one! The Canes totally dominated Miami of Ohio in the Week 1 match-up at Hard Rock Stadium, with a decisive 38-3 victory. Everyone recaps what they loved about the huge win and dive right into the game breakdown.

The defense showed in Week 1 just how good they can be, allowing only two third down conversions for Miami of Ohio. This gave everyone some positive momentum going into next week's game against Texas A&M. Plus we break down the play of the offensive line, Tyler's efficient game management, and the dominance of the running game across several talented backs.

Plus, Emory solidified his spot at the backup in this game for sure, with a few great throws and how he kept the offense moving through the end of the game. And how this win in Week 1 made us feel about our season predictions - and Ro is up to a 92% chance of being better than 7-and-5.

This episode is presented by Ed Morse Automotive Group, Paul Bange Roofing, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped.
