| 78. Stepping into the CEO role in your business | 28 May 2024 | 00:21:38 | |
When starting your own business, you have to do everything. You are the customer service team, the marketing department, the product development team, and the leadership team. You are the Chief Everything Officer—or the business gopher. If it’s got to be done, it’s you doing it. However, as your business starts to grow, you will find that you just can’t operate at that level anymore, and you will increasingly start to ‘drop the ball’, feel resentful toward your business, and toe the line with burnout. If you feel like one more task or responsibility might make you implode, today’s episode is for you. Stepping into a leadership position in your business, though, takes new skills. Skills that can feel super uncomfortable, like managing people, increasing your monthly expenses, handing over control… If you and your business are ready to step up and start playing bigger, then today’s episode is for you. Today, I will show you how you can start stepping into the CEO role of your business and stop doing absolutely everything. If you are ready to fully step into the CEO role of your business now that sales have grown and would like support in doing so with me in your corner, I’m excited to let you know that applications for my mastermind are now open. The 7 Figure Scale Collective is my Boutique Mastermind For Lifestyle e-commerce Brands To Scale to 7 Figures. This high-touch coaching program includes 1:1 calls with me, weekly small group calls, a supportive community, and so much more. My Masterminders get access to ALL my online courses and an invitation to my VIP face-to-face retreats (we have one booked for the Gold Coast, Qld, in September)! If you are already earning $100k in revenue a year in your fashion or lifestyle online store, I invite you to apply. I’d love to help you scale your sales and step into your role as CEO. Don't forget to leave me a review and rating on Apple Podcasts or Shopify. It would mean the world to me!

| 70. Finding success in the world of MLM's - with Danielle Millar | 26 Mar 2024 | 00:32:46 | |
Today on Online Store Success, I'm interviewing the beautiful Danielle Millar from The Glow Know. Danielle's business model is not one I encounter very often. It is a clever hybrid of a direct-selling business and her own brand, incorporating online and face-to-face events and services. In Danielle's words, "Most people don’t really know much about the direct selling/MLM industry. This kind of conversation usually gets brushed off by comments like ‘that doesn’t really work’, or ‘so and so tried that and got nowhere’." and today we unpack how Danielle has carved out a successful business for herself in a difficult and controversial industry. Tune in to listen to Danielle's story. About Danielle: Danielle has influenced thousands of women and turned over/generated millions of dollars through her Nutrimetics business, which she started nearly 15 years ago with almost $0 outlay. Central Coast Mum of 2 not online runs a successful nutrimetics business here in Australia, she does most of it online, using free organic strategies and now teaches others women to do the same. https://www.instagram.com/theglowknow/ https://www.facebook.com/theglowknow

| 87. How I Took My Business from $0k to $170k a Month Online - Part 1 | 20 Aug 2024 | 00:16:59 | |
I'm often asked how I took my fashion brand from weekend market stalls to over $1.3m a year online and what the one thing was that moved the needle, but the truth is it took many things, not one singular thing. It was a messy ride and took lots of throwing the proverbial 'spaghetti at the wall' to see what stuck. | 67. Do you really need a business ‘strategy for your small business? | 05 Mar 2024 | 00:18:43
Do you really need a business ‘strategy for your small business? I know how sexy the notion of a ‘strategy’ is. It sounds like a magical scroll showing you how easy it is to go from A to Z in just a few easy steps. A quick Google search tells me: A business strategy is the set of strategic initiatives a company pursues to create value for the organisation and its stakeholders and gain a competitive advantage in the market. This strategy is crucial to a company's success and is needed before any goods or services are produced or delivered. According to Harvard Business School Online's Business Strategy course, an effective strategy is built around three key questions: How can my business create value for customers? Many promising business initiatives don’t come to fruition because the company failed to build its strategy around value creation. Creativity is important in business, but a company won't last without prioritising value. Does this sound relatable to a small business? Not at all. Strategies are often lofty. And they often need a team to implement them. For small business owners who might be the only person in the business, an overly optimistic business strategy can be exciting initially but quickly becomes overwhelming and unachievable. Tune in to hear my thoughts on 'Strategy' and what I believe you need instead.

| 63. How to ditch your expensive Facebook ads manager for good | 06 Feb 2024 | 00:21:55 | |
Welcome to this week episode of Online Store Success. Today, I’m chatting with you about how to ditch your expensive ads manager or agency for good, take back the reins of your ads, and increase your bottom line. For many business owners, outsourcing their Facebook ad management is an expensive and frustrating experience. We hope these experts will get better results than we can, that they will treat your campaigns with the same amount of attention we do, and understand your business inside and out. But the exact opposite happens for most e-commerce founders I speak to. Results tank, you can barely get hold of your ads manager (the agency junior whom your account was handed too because you aren’t considered a ‘big spender’, and your bank account dwindles right before your ads. The most frustrating part? When you get your monthly report from the agency telling you how great your ads are doing when you know for a fact they are not. But it’s not all doom and gloom. In fact, I’m here to let you know it’s never been easier to manage your ads yourself in 2024. Tune in, and let’s go.

| 86. How long should I let my Facebook ads run for before turning them off? | 06 Aug 2024 | 00:10:30 | |
Are you running Meta ads for your online business or e-commerce store and not sure when to turn them off? This episode will help answer that question! Building and launching Facebook ads is one thing, but knowing when to turn them off is another. Well, the answer isn't based on the length of time an ad has been running... it's all about the dollar spend. Before we dive into those specifics, we need to first understand what your "goal cost per sale" is. How much are you willing to spend on Facebook ads to acquire one sale? I share a simple way to calculate this for your own online store using your product's price point. From here, we can then look at the right time to pull the plug on your ad campaign if it's not delivering the results you want. Hint: you want to give Facebook the chance to optimise and learn, so ensuring you've spent at LEAST your goal cost per sale amount is key before making any decisions. Tune into today's short and punchy episode to get all the specifics on how long to run your Facebook ad campaign, what to look for and how to make the call to switch it off.

Four Growth Strategies for your eCommerce business As we come to the end of the year, it’s a great time to reflect on what did and didn’t and set goals for the year ahead. However, after 20 years in business, I’ve discovered that goals, plans, and structure are my best friends and help me stay on track, working on things that matter, vs. getting distracted. So today, I want to help you (ok and me), get you thinking about what’s in store for your business next year. PLUS, I have a free workbook for you to download to map out your game plan. | 50. The real issue that is stopping you from scaling your sales | 13 Aug 2023 | 00:15:02
In today’s podcast we're unraveling the true challenge that's been holding you back from reaching your sales aspirations: it's all about traffic and conversions. Last week we explored the myth surrounding your products and prices as potential sales obstacles. So now, let's tackle the real elephant in the room: traffic. Without a consistent, targeted flow of visitors, your conversion goals will remain elusive. Think of traffic as the lifeblood of your eCommerce venture; without it, sales simply won't materialise. But not all website visitors are created equal. Some are new, cold visitors, while others are warm, returning ones. The crucial question: how many visitors do you need daily? This hinges on your conversion rate. A typical eCommerce conversion rate is around 1%. That means, out of 100 targeted daily visitors, you might expect just one sale. Imagine aiming for $2,000 in daily sales; with a 1% conversion rate, you'd need a staggering 2,000 visitors daily. So, how can you drive this traffic to your store? There are two main approaches:
It's a smart strategy to combine both organic and paid traffic methods. If rapid traffic increase is your goal, paid strategies like Facebook and Instagram ads are your go-to solution. For an in-depth analysis of your daily visitor needs, check out the helpful calculator I've designed: Website Visitor Calculator Building a robust traffic strategy and optimising conversions are key aspects I dive into within the Online Store Success program. Whether you're dealing with a lack of traffic or poor conversion rates, this episode is packed with insights and practical advice to help you troubleshoot and fix these problems. I break down the two key areas that affect your sales: traffic and conversion rates. If you're struggling to get the sales you want, it's often due to one of these two factors. In this episode, I guide you through a self-audit process to determine if your primary issue is a traffic problem or a conversion problem. | 49. Why your products or prices aren’t the problem that's stopping you from making sales on your online store (and what actually is instead). | 08 Aug 2023 | 00:15:37
Today we are diving deep into the heart of e-commerce success. Ever wondered why your products or prices might not be driving the sales you dream of? We often think that the problem lies within our products or the pricing. But guess what? That’s rarely the issue. Before I continue summarising the episode, I want to let you know that I have spent the last few days running a live training program which ends tomorrow. The economy might seem uncertain, but it's not the sole culprit behind sluggish sales. Remember Taylor Swift's concerts that sold out like hotcakes, despite any economic turmoil? That’s because effective positioning and marketing can create demand even in challenging times. You know what's often the real issue? It's the lack of eyeballs on your products. Your website might be the best-kept secret, and that's where we need to start. And then we need to talk about your brand's voice. Does it resonate with your product offerings? If not, we need to align them. And those marketing strategies you're using? They need to be consistent and effective. It's not about trying every trick in the book; it's about the right strategies tailored for your business. We're entering the pivotal fourth quarter where e-commerce businesses make their biggest profits. This is your time to shine. So, whether you're considering starting an online store or taking your existing one to greater heights, now's the perfect moment. | 46. Getting started with Facebook and Instagram ads for your eCommerce business | 18 Jul 2023 | 00:22:44
I love Facebook and Instagram Ads. Some people call me a nerd, but I know first hand they can be a game-changer for accelerating the growth of your e-commerce store. Ask any multiple figure 6 or 7 figure a year ecommerce business owner what their biggest driver of traffic and sales is and I’d put money down that they will tell you it’s via paid ads - particularly Facebook and Instagram ads. Paid Social Media Ads are the number one lever you can pull in your business to scale your traffic and sales FAST. People often say to me, right now I’m going to focus on: Organic social media And while all of these do help drive traffic to your website, they are a slow burn and require lots of time and effort to get traction. If you want more traffic and sales NOW, the quickest and easiest way to do that is via Facebook and Instagram ads. You can literally ‘turn the tap on or off’ as you please and you will see instant results. Paid Facebook and Instagram ads are one of the fastest ways to send traffic and sales to your online store. Facebook ads allow you to: Reach a new audience FAST PLUS despite all of the changes and all of the confusing mambo jumbo talk circling online, it’s actually easier than EVER to self-manage your ads yourself. Gone are the days of needing complex funnels, and testing a gazillion interests against each other. The platform is simpler than ever, despite what you may have heard. Tune in to today's episode to hear whether you are ready Facebook ads for your business, and how to bet my help with your ads. What I cover in today's episode is just a little of what I teach inside of Online Store Success where we dive much deeper into using the power of paid Social Media ads. In Online Store Success you will learn how to get started DIY'ing your Facebook and Instagram ads (and save thousands each month on agency fees). You will learn everything from technical set-up to creating audiences, and how to build ads for both cold and warm audiences. You will also learn the latest strategies as to what's working and what's not and how to create a paid traffic sales funnel for your store, AND how to measure your results including knowing which ads to turn off and which to scale See you next week when we chat about knowing your numbers, that is reading your analytics to

| 45. How to use organic social media to drive traffic and sales to your online store | 11 Jul 2023 | 00:25:08 | |
Where, when and how to turn up on social media is often completely overwhelming for most small business owners. It’s just another thing we have to do, added to a never-ending list of tasks we need to do to keep all the plates spinning and sales coming in. Some folks love it - some loathe it. Either way, it is fairly necessary for several reasons. I’ve spoken before about how traffic is the lifeblood of an eCommerce business, and organic social media is an important part of that traffic formula. While it’s just one marketing tactic that fits into our sales funnel, it’s an important one, as we spend SO much time on social media apps these days. It makes sense to go where your potential customers are already spending time. You are meeting them where they already are, giving them a chance to stalk you and even chat with you to get to know you more and decide if you the right business for them. Digital marketing is all about reaching customers across different touchpoints and multiple times. Social media allows us to do just this, reminding customers we still exist and hopefully popping up in their feeds regularly and consistently. Tune in to hear about:
- Which platforms you need to be on - What and how often to post -What's working right now.

| 44. How to Build a Winning Website | 04 Jul 2023 | 00:26:15 | |
Welcome to this episode of Online Store Success. Today I’m chatting about Websites - a winning website that is! So what is a winning website? It’s one that is built to convert as many website visitors to customers as possible, on autopilot (while you sleep!). Can I get a ka-ching! Your website is the equivalent of a brick-and-mortar shop front - first impressions are everything. And sometimes we are too close to our website to see the holes in it. We are more often than not looking inside the back end of Shopify / rather the public-facing website and we know exactly where everything is (because we put it there) and just assume everyone else will know too right (a bit like my husband's wardrobe…). Think about shopping in person at your local shopping centre or mall. When you approach a new store for the first time, would you stick around for a long if there were boxes everywhere blocking your path? If there were inches of dust in the window display, and cobwebs around, would you be willing to stay? How about if you have a question or want to try something on - what if there was no sales assistant there to help you? We need to consider the user experience of our website visitors the same way you would if they were visiting you in real life. That is, you need to make a great first impression and help guide them through your store in order to make a sale. Now obviously we can’t do that as easily online, however, there are 10 crucial elements that will help you do that online in order to scale your business to a million-dollar-a-year eCommerce store like mine, iland co. Tune into today's episode to hear exactly what these elements are. Want my help in your business? Online Store Success is a game changer for eCommerce business owners needing to increase their sales, and pronto. It couples coaching, community and curriculum, giving you a roadmap to scale your traffic and make sales while you sleep. Put your name on the waitlist today. | 43. Building an iconic brand | 27 Jun 2023 | 00:13:37
Welcome to this episode of Online Store Success. In the last episode (episode 42 go back and have a listen if you missed it here) we talked about getting clear on WHAT your niche is, and WHO exactly your customer is. This week I’m talking about your brand and how it aligns with your niche and attracts your ideal customer (ideally). But sometimes we get it wrong... In this episode, I chat about: Why is it important? How do you build one or refine an existing one? What if your brand no longer fits your business, your customers or your products? This is just a little of what I teach inside Online Store Success which is opening for enrolment in early August. In Online Store Success we break this down even more and develop:

| 42. Nailing your Niche - Do you really know who you are selling to? | 20 Jun 2023 | 00:15:16 | |
Welcome to this episode of Online Store Success. Today we are going to chat about whether you might be missing out on loads of possible sales by missing the mark on pinpointing your niche and ideal customer. Many businesses I see are trying to be everything to everyone in the hope more people will buy from them, and what happens is that no one actually resonates with the business or brand and the sales just don’t come. So how do we figure out what our niche is and who our customers are? Tune in and find out. Today’s episode just scratches the surface of what is covered in Online Store Success, which I’m thrilled to let you know is coming back in August this year! This is the first time in over 18 months I’ve run this game-changing program that couples coaching, curriculum and coaching. | 41. A cautionary tale about house painting (and how it relates to business) | 13 Jun 2023 | 00:12:58
Today I am sharing a cautionary tale about house painting. No, I have not shifted my focus to become a renovation podcast! Inside this house improvement story there is a lesson that relates to business. Tune in to hear more. ****** Four years ago, my husband loudly declared that he was going to paint the entire outside of our house. Now this announcement had me perplexed because my husband is no house painter - he is a plumber! And when I questioned whether this was a job he could, er even wanted to, achieve, he told me: “I am not paying somebody else to do this job when I am perfectly capable of doing it myself.” Can you relate to this way of thinking? Have you ever decided to tackle a task that was not your skill set, just so you could save a few dollars? Well, I probably don’t need to tell you how the house painting ended. Let me just say - when my husband declared himself finished, there was still a lot of work left to do. Now in fairness to my husband he is not a house painter. He didn’t even have the tools to complete the job properly. He had thought that, because he could open a tin of paint, he could complete the work. And by the end of the process he was wishing he had never begun! How many times do we take on projects in our business that we are not equipped for, or don’t even have the time for? This happens so often with social media campaigns. Are you guilty of trying to run your own social media campaign and finding it fall flat on its face? Do you have a friend who tells you social media ads are a waste of money because they tried it once and it didn’t work? If this sounds like you, I have the perfect solution. I have a number of workshop and coaching programs that will equip you with the proper tools and knowledge you need to be able to run your own social media ad campaigns. A three-part self-study program that will help you get started, or dust the cobwebs off your existing campaign. Priced at just $147 this is a great, affordable package to get you started on the spot. ***** Need a little more help? I have an exciting new package to offer. I will spend a day in your ad manager getting everything created and configured just right for a successful campaign. At the end of the package, I will give you a comprehensive handover with video instructions, how-to’s, and the ability to duplicate the ads I have created for you. I am heavily discounting this program because it is brand new and I want to help as many businesses as possible. I will be offering this package from now until mid-July, so there is a limited time to arrange your booking. Make sure you get in early and don’t miss out! ***** My other programs: eComm Ads Academy is a 12 week coaching program where I work inside your Meta Ad Manager and walk through your entire ad campaign. I am just finishing up a round of eComm Ads Academy and will be running it again sometime toward the end of this year or early next year. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, but sure to do so today before they sell out via the link in the show notes. In this episode, Kate and I get serious about the reality of running a business, raising small humans, maintaining healthy relationships, keeping up with the laundry, and the truth of existential crisis. (How did we fit this all into 30 minutes?!) It’s true, Kate is a powerhouse, but she is honest to admit that she doesn’t even try to do it all alone. She has a team. Because we don’t need to burn ourselves into the ground in order to run a successful business. Kate and I have both experienced small and scaled businesses and we reflect on the changes in business practice and profit margins when income grows. We talk about healthy profit margins, how to balance work and housework, and we dispel the myth of working-from-home as being liberation. We even break down the complexities of marriage and gender roles. This is an episode you don’t want to miss! | 39. How many website visitors do you really need each day? | 30 May 2023 | 00:22:38
Are you struggling to get the sales you need on your online store each day? 😭 Worried it could be your products, your prices, or your website that is broken? After 6+ years of coaching eCommerce clients, my guess is you have a traffic problem and that your products, prices and website are fine! More often than not, a lack of consistent, quality daily visits (traffic) is the problem. Today, I’m unpacking how you can get clear on EXACTLY how much traffic you need each day to meet your sales goals. Let’s get started. After 6+ years of coaching other online store owners AND running my own eComm store for 9 years, I know that traffic, aka website visitors, is an online store's lifeblood. No traffic = no sales; it’s as simple as that. But not all traffic is the same. There is cold traffic versus warm traffic, higher quality traffic that comes from organic searches, recommendations or returning customers, and lesser quality traffic that might come from a ‘traffic’ campaign in Facebook or a bot (the horror!). But lack of traffic is more often than not the biggest challenge online store owners face BUT they don’t always realise it’s their biggest issue. Online store owners often assume it’s their products, prices, website or a thousand other things So, how much traffic do YOU need each day to meet your sales goals? Well, that depends on a few factors. What is your average order value? What is your average conversion rate? And HOW much sales/revenue do you want to make each day? These metrics will guide you as to how many daily visitors you need.
