| Miss New York 2024 - Abby Quammen | 12 Jun 2025 | 00:29:52 | |
My journey with the Miss America Opportunity began nearly a decade ago when, at just fourteen, I was a young girl seeking confidence, purpose, and stability. I found all of that—and more—through this program. As Miss Kentucky’s Teen 2017, I earned the Miss America’s Teen Presidential Scholarship and pursued a degree in Musical Theatre at The University of Alabama. Surrounded by fellow titleholders who became lifelong friends, I stepped onto stages I had only dreamed of and grew into a confident, determined woman who knows she doesn’t need a crown to make a difference. As Miss New York, my mission is to close the literacy gap by empowering children to read and equipping them with the tools to succeed. My community service initiative, Read → Lead → Succeed, was born from my own story—when my family lost our home at age 12, reading became my safe haven. From cookbooks to classics, books offered me consistency and hope during a time of chaos. Today, I bring that same hope to children through after-school programs in Title I schools, one-on-one tutoring with Reading Partners, and a national reading challenge, Book Buddies, which helps kids develop comprehension and conflict resolution skills through reading. Outside of advocacy, I’m a career fundraiser and MBA candidate at NYU, specializing in leadership and change management. I help donors build legacies through scholarships and credit the Miss America Opportunity for guiding me toward this path. My ultimate goal is to serve as Executive Vice President of Programs for a major philanthropic foundation, championing educational equity through revitalized libraries and programming for underserved schools. I am deeply honored to serve as Miss New York, not for recognition, but as a vessel to uplift the people and communities I love. This year, I’m committed to expanding literacy opportunities across New York’s 700 school districts and raising a record-breaking amount for the Miss New York Organization. Most of all, I hope every person I meet—whether in person or online—doesn’t just know Miss New York, but feels like they are friends with her. | Arsh Pal - ArtbyArsh | 06 Mar 2025 | 00:16:03
At just 15 years old, Arsh Pal is an artist and philanthropist dedicated to making a difference through creativity and compassion. His journey began at the age of 8 when he discovered a passion for art while exploring various hobbies. Acrylic painting, mixed media, and pencil sketches quickly became his favorite mediums, and he started sharing his artwork with friends and family. Deeply moved by these interactions, he was inspired to sell his artwork to support those in need. Setting an initial fundraising goal of $1,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arsh embarked on a mission to use his art for a greater purpose. Surpassing that goal fueled his passion further, and to date, he has raised and donated over $22,000 to various charities, with a strong focus on St. Jude. Beyond fundraising, Arsh is honored to donate his paintings for charity auctions, create live paintings at nonprofit events, and teach art to children and adults. For over five years, he has volunteered at nursing homes, leading art lessons as a recreational activity to uplift residents. Arsh also strives to inspire others through leadership roles. As a board member of Giving Tuesday and the Loukoumi Foundation, he works to promote kindness and generosity. His role as a Good Deed Council member of Loukoumi has allowed him to instill the values of service and compassion in students worldwide. He has obtained numerous academic honors. He participates in concert and jazz bands playing the trumpet. When he is not in school, Ethan is a competitive golfer in the PGAjr and US Kids leagues. Additionally, Ethan also serves on the media ministry at Revelation Church Ministries where he primarily operates and trains others on lighting and visuals. Ethan is a firm believer that if you see a problem, you find a way to fix it. To that resolve, in the winter of 2016, Ethan took notice of a homeless gentleman on his way to school and wanted to know how he could personally assist him. He took his Christmas money that year and purchased survival supplies for the homeless gentleman and other homeless individuals in the area. His passion for assisting those who are less fortunate and without basic necessities sparked him to form his nonprofit organization, Ethan’s Heart Bags4Blessings. Ethan’s Heart provides services to address the immediate needs of the homeless and those at-risk of homelessness to deescalate the severity of malnutrition, ill-health, and death, while connecting them to services which lead to stable housing and helping to prepare them for independence. Since 2016, Ethan has distributed over 2,800 care packages and sleeping bags. He has also provided other aid for those in need and partners with other agencies in the community to bridge services and to partner on several initiatives. He has been seen on Nickelodeon, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and has been featured in international and local news features. Ethan can also been heard on several podcast and radio shows. He has articles in Time Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, The Outdoor Magazine, The Reckon South Newsletter, and other printed mediums. In 2021, Ethan had the wonderful opportunity to be selected as a 2021 Time Kid of the Year Top 20 Finalist, 2021 Minority Business Award Winner for Academic Leader, United Way Hands on Ignite Award Winner, City of Birmingham District 1 Super Citizen Award Recipient, and as earned several other honors. Ethan believes that his calling from God is to be a servant leader for those in need. Follow us on Instagram @oneworldonefuturepodcast to be the first to know when new episodes drop! | Nazhi Forrest - Giving Tuesday Project | 09 Nov 2021 | 00:07:17
Every Tuesday, leading up to Giving Tuesday which is November 30, I will be sharing different Giving Tuesday Spark chapter leaders and their projects. The goal of these episodes is to show the audience members all the different projects you can get involved with. For today’s episode, Nazhi Forrest shares what her project is for this year!! Make sure to email her to get more information on her project. I have been baking for a few years now and I have also battled Sickle Cell Anemia since birth. One thing that makes me unique is that my two sisters also are fighting sickle cell! All three of us have a rare sickle cell trait that strikes all female children from my parents. After the tragic experience of witnessing my older sister have a massive stroke in 2014, I learned more about the history of our overlooked disease. I learned about trigger foods and special dietary needs that help people living with sickle cell stay healthy. Since I love to bake, I decided to find new ways to make treats that we love. I came up with recipes for cakes that ANYONE could enjoy; even people battling Sickle Cell or on restricted diets. I have a big sweet tooth, so it was hard to find a way to create the same taste. I kept on testing until I found a great formula that uses organic and natural ingredients. Once my parents tasted what I was making, they knew I was on to something and Nazhi Thee Baker was born! That also gave life to Nazhi Thee Baker Angel Foundation. I use the proceeds of my cakes to buy toys and items needed by children with Sickle Cell, stuck in the hospital for extended periods of time. We are spreading awareness about Sickle Cell and we have been blessed to have our story told on local and national television and radio! This is just the beginning of our journey and we hope to inspire others to do the same. Follow us on Instagram @oneworldonefuturepodcast to be the first to know when new episodes drop! | Rachelle McCray - MinMinBear Foundation | 18 Sep 2021 | 00:36:17
Rachelle McCray is a nationally recognized Television Show Host, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist. She is also a patient whose mother, Mindy, is a kidney transplant recipient and the inspiration behind her non-profit organization, The MinMinBear Foundation. In 2011, Rachelle’s mission to help others gained a voice in the form of a crown when she won the title of Miss Arizona United States. During her reign, Rachelle dedicated her year to educating and advocating for kidney disease patients while teaching the importance of living organ donation. Rachelle worked as a spokesperson traveling to various conferences, making press appearances, and volunteering on behalf of organizations like The Donor Network of Arizona and the National Kidney Foundation. During her year as Miss Arizona United States, Rachelle also created the MinMin Bear Initiative, a temporary program that generated monetary benefits for organ donation recipients and their families in Arizona. This program is ultimately what motivated the launch of an official 501(c)3, a non-profit organization, The MinMinBear Foundation in 2020. The Foundation originally launched with a single initiative, the MinMinBearChallenge, but the Foundation and its mascots didn't stop there.
