We explore its place on the UK’s infamous 1980s "Video Nasties" banned list, and how cinematographer Sergio Salvati balanced gorgeous sunlit landscapes with sickening, stomach-churning decay. Plus, we break down the infamous underwater zombie vs. real tiger shark battle, the agonising slow-motion eye splinter scene, and why this movie proved that true horror doesn't need computer graphics—just atmosphere, practical effects, and pure, unrelenting dread.
