I'm Back in Italy - Walking Down Memory Lane of My Expat Life in Italy26 Jul 202400:10:19

Returning to Italy after years brings a mix of nostalgia and fresh experiences. The blend of familiar streets, old friends, and the distinct flavors of Italian cuisine is both comforting and exhilarating. Visiting Rovigo, my Italian "hometown," and reconnecting with friends while experiencing life in Italy has made this trip special. Spending time here, collaborating on the Italian Citizenship and Real Estate Podcasts with my good friend Marco Permunian, adds layers to my experience of expat life in Italy. Despite changes over time, the deep connection I feel to this place remains strong, making every moment rich and something I might be able to reccomend for anyone considering expat life in Italy. When is The Right Time to Move Back After Living Abroad?08 Jul 202200:18:46

After I left the USA, I came to find there were many other people who weren't of the same mindset that I was regarding staying abroad. I couldn't even fathom why a person would want to move back to their country after living abroad. But as time has passed, I've come to understand what motivating factors would make a person want to consider another ‘move abroad’ back to their home country and racking up yet another international move.  Expat life can be fun but life abroad of course comes with many challenges and things that you need to become used to. Sometimes working abroad may not afford a person the same opportunities that they have for work back in their country of origin. Living abroad isn't for everyone, but definitely there are points to consider and also after years of living abroad, it's easier to approach the idea with a clear picture. Approaching the move to another country comes along with a lot to consider, even if it's back to the country that you're from. In this expat living abroad podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, well go over some of what you may want to take into consideration if you're thinking about repatriating back to your home country.

0:57 - Be prepared for the worst...
4:13 - Aggravation and Bitterness
5:56 - The grass is always greener...
8:09 - A Visceral Reaction
10:09 - One word...FAMILY
11:16 - Can you actually be there?
13:28 - Goal compatibility...

The Best Apps For Expats While Living Abroad24 Jun 202200:19:52

During my time living abroad I've found there are certain apps I use more than others that help with day-to-day life and help you to be able to accomplish what you need in your expat life. Having experienced life living in Portugal as well as living in Italy among other countries I can say that it's important to try and figure out how to optimize some of the simplest things as well to be able to connect with what happens where you are and link into what is going on in your location. These apps and categories of apps are some of the ones that I use the most or can recommend using. I would recommend if you haven't yet moved abroad to look out and get a feel for these so you're not, so to speak, trying to pat your head and rub your belly at the same time. Moving to another country already comes with so many things to think about, why ad a few extra things on top.

These were some of the apps/services I mentioned in this episode that I have referral codes/links for:

Airalo - ESIMs for data packages in different countries
Save $3 on Airalo with code RAFAEL837 https://ref.airalo.com/dhht

Rebtel - Make calls to landlines and mobile phones around the world

Living in Portugal - 6 Months After Moving to Portugal03 Jun 202200:20:37

It's crazy how quickly these 6 months have gone by since moving to Portugal. Day by day it feels more and more like home, I've always enjoyed Portugal, but since moving to Braga I can say that I really have developed a new appreciation for what this country has to offer. Living in Portugal comes with some hurdles to conquer, however once you have landed and gotten the ball rolling, life in Portugal really takes shape and shows you what it has to offer. Out of all of the countries that I could recommend to someone to live abroad, Portugal would be one of the top choices on that list.

Working Online as a Digital Nomad In Europe in an AirBNB or Hostel13 May 202200:18:17

Before starting life as a digital nomad, it is important to consider how you will be able to not just work online but also most importantly how you will be able to connect to the internet in order to work remotely as a digital nomad from an Airbnb.  For those individuals who rely on a solid online connection, it's important to look at all of the options in front of you for whatever country you may be moving abroad to during your life as a digital nomad... and it is even more important to have a backup plan for whatever may happen... Beyond simply connecting to the internet, you also have to consider the space around you and how conducive to your work it will actually be. Is working from a beach something that you're dreaming of? Have you ever tried to work from a beach? The expectation vs the reality may not fully match the dream.  It may be ‘too much fun’ so that you want to just relax or just jump in the water and forget about the tasks you need to get done for the day. A remote working lifestyle may work for some, but is it what will be the best option for you? When just getting starting in the digital nomad lifestyle there are some aspects worth trying out before jumping in headfirst. In this expat/ digital nomad podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to reply a comment asking about being a digital nomad in Italy, but I also wanted to speak in general about being a digital nomad across Europe, including my new country of residence and talk about being a digital nomad in Portugal.

Living in Portugal vs Italy - Personal Tax Codes (Italian Codice Fiscale vs Portuguese NIF)06 May 202200:18:00

Having a personal tax code while living in another country can be absolutely vital to making sure you can navigate the various steps you will have to take during your move abroad. I've come to realize there are a number of you who watch/listen to Not Your Average Globetrotter who are considering a move to Portugal or a move to Italy. In this expat podcast episode about living abroad in these countries, I wanted to compare and contrast what many may consider to be a boring topic, but can actually be quite important: ‘how to use the codice fiscale and how to use the NIF’.  It will be a little bit of a brief overview of how to get a codice fiscale and how to get a NIF as well as when to use them.  When living in Portugal you may find that the NIF gets asked for more than the codice fiscale that is used I n Italy.  However,  you do see many similarities between the two personal tax identifiers. When moving to Portugal or moving to Italy having you personal tax number will be extremely important for taking care of some of the most major steps in setting up your new life living abroad and to help things go smoothly. As I've mentioned, I think it's very important if you can get your tax code before arriving in your country of choice so that it's possible to arrive and hit the "ground running" so to speak.

Don't move to Portugal.... IF! (6 Reasons Why)22 Apr 202200:20:30

Moving to Portugal for me was unplanned, and unexpected, but I can't even start to begin to explain, how glad I am that I did. There are many wonderful things that living in Portugal can present, but is life in Portugal right for everyone? Making sure your expat life in Portugal goes as smoothly as possible, it's important to think about both the big things like visas and so on, but also the smaller simpler daily realities. What may feel like something small at the beginning can feel like something huge down the line and it also goes the other way... Something that may feel like a big deal at the beginning may actually be quite minor in the grand scheme of things. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll go over 6 reasons why you may want to rethink your move to Portugal if you're asking yourself "Should I move to Portugal?"  1:22 - If everything has to go smoothly 4:06 - If you always have to have ketchup on your fries 9:17 - If you think it's going to be like another country 11:01 - If you want to live on the Mediterranean 13:35 - If you're vegetarian 16:37 - If you are really into wintersports

Expat vs Immigrant - What's the Difference between Expat, Digital Nomad, Immigrant & Foreigner?15 Apr 202200:17:53

Are these terms actually important at the end of the day? However there is the sad reality that some words have been used in a derogatory manner, terms such as expat, digital nomad, foreigner, immigrant and migrant can bring up an emotional charge for some, however, I personally have the belief that these words can in some cases be used somewhat interchangeably and without the derogatory connotation. An individual can be all of these or none of these, or some or maybe just one. The lines between these terms and definitions when you look at the dictionary definition are very blurred. But what are the differences? What are the similarities? What helps to simplify a conversation? What is an expat? What is a digital nomad? What is a foreigner? What is an immigrant? Do these terms make a difference at the end of the day? In the context of my expat/living abroad podcast series, Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to clarify not only my personal understanding but also my usage of these terms over these 240 episodes of this project so far.

Be Less American While Living In Europe (or Traveling)08 Apr 202200:28:04

Living in Europe vs America or just simply being an American traveling abroad can lead a person to many interesting cultural experiences and seeing how different where you are from the rest of the world. 13 years ago when I decided to move abroad, little did I know how even some of the smallest little things from day to day could make a major difference in your overall lifestyle. Life in Europe can be so much fun, but cultural differences are important to understand and embrace. I can say, especially after living in Italy, and moving to Portugal it's quite important to take into consideration the specific differences even when you may find cultures that share some similarities. In this expat living abroad podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll go over some cultural, behavioral and differences in clothing that may help you to avoid attracting more attention to yourself than necessary.

Why I Left The USA 13 Years Ago and What I've Learned Since Then01 Apr 202200:28:42

I left The USA 13 years ago, but did I ever want to go back? Will I go back to the USA? But why would an American want to leave the USA? Having been an expat for the past 13 years I can say that I have learned a lot about myself and the world around me and how I fit into it while living abroad. Of course, the discussion about renouncing American citizenship often comes up. But is leaving the US forever the best decision to make? As an Italian dual citizen who is an expat living in Portugal, I often think about that topic and what repercussions that it may bring. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter about living abroad, I wanted to mark my 13th year since leaving the USA for a new adventure around the world. It just so happens that this episode will be published on April 1st 2022, exactly 13 years since I found myself in another part of the world fully committed to an expat life overseas. Moving abroad was one of the best choices I could have ever made, and it's something I'm grateful that I was able to do.

What I miss About Living in Italy11 Mar 202200:23:46

Yes, I have no problem admitting I do miss living in Italy, it's only natural. Life in Italy was an amazing opportunity to be able to really get a proper feel for the country and to learn about all the details that you would miss if you were only there on a trip. Italy is a country that could take a person a lifetime to truly get to know, and I'm glad that I did have the past 5 years there if only to get a taste of what that lifetime could look like. Since moving to Portugal, I've had the opportunity to reflect on my time there and realize what it was that had really become part of my life and lifestyle, what little things through the day that were influenced by my ancestry as well as my experience in the country that they came from. My life in Italy is something that has left me with many wonderful memories to look back on, good times with great friends, food, travel and experience the day-to-day realities of what things are like after moving to Italy.

Living in Portugal vs Living in Italy04 Mar 202200:21:47

After moving to Portugal, I can't help but notice the differences between living in Portugal vs living in Italy. Having spent the last 5 years of my life in Italy, I can't help but compare it to expat life in Portugal. I love both countries but find that there are certain aspects of each country that I may prefer over the other one and in this second episode of this expat podcast mini-series part of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to continue comparing and contrasting living in Italy vs living in Portugal.  This time talking about everything from shopping in Portugal vs Italy for daily necessities, working and even the weather. This is why I wanted to continue this series highlighting some differences between these two countries that I love.

Life in Portugal - Thoughts After 3 Months (& Speaking Portuguese)25 Feb 202200:12:02

If you don't speak Portuguese, this episode is available with subtitles on YouTube.com/RafaelDiFuria

It's kind of crazy to think I've been living in Portugal for almost 3 months now. It's been a lot of fun to re-start life as an expat all over again. So far I haven't had much time to study Portuguese but thankfully, I had some of the language under my belt already. It's undoubtedly made a big difference with my experience moving to Portugal. I can see my limited ability to speak the language improving day by day, as I am learning new words constntly. In this special expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I'll be speaking in Portuguese, or at least trying to speak Portuguese and share some of my thoughts after 3 months of life in Portugal. It's been quite the journey so far, and I'm quite excited to see where it goes. I've included the mistakes made and my Portuguese is far from perfect, so this episode should not be used as an episode for learning the language.

Moving Abroad to Portugal VS Italy18 Feb 202200:20:13

Moving to Italy vs. moving to Portugal is a topic I have been thinking about a lot recently after my own move to Portugal from Italy. I can't help finding myself making comparisons to all of the places I've lived and especially Italy. Some things are more attractive about Italy, some others are more attractive about Portugal. Since starting on this new chapter of my expat life in Portugal a number of you have reached out to me and or have left comments about actually trying to decide whether living in Italy or living in Portugal would be the better choice for them. I love both countries and each for different reasons. Both can be lots of fun and lead to a wonderful experience as an expat living abroad. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter I wanted to begin a series of videos where I compare and contrast expat life in Portugal vs expat life in Italy.

Move To Portugal - Are the popular destinations right for you?11 Feb 202200:24:29

When looking into moving to Portugal, there seems to be a few destinations in particular that people seem to gravitate towards at the beginning of their research phase. I'll admit in the past I had also considered making the move to Lisbon or making the move to the Algarve and I can very easily understand the attraction to both locations. Each area of the country will have its benefits and drawbacks and it's important to do enough research to be able to answer the questions you have before moving abroad. Figuring  out everything after the fact can lead to a few too many headaches that simply aren't necessary. During the research phase of looking into moving to Portugal, many people come across the NHR (Non-Habitual Residence) tax scheme that makes it very interesting to those who qualify when thinking about living in Portugal. Before my move to Portugal, I did quite a bit of research into how I would continue the work activities that I do and to be able to legally work in Portugal. Opening a company in Portugal ended up being the best option for me. Thankfully everything has been moving in the right direction in spite of it taking much longer to finalize everything than I had hoped. I've been quite fortunate during my adventure to open a company in Portugal... This expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter is dedicated to those of you who are thinking about moving to Portugal and who are also interested in the NHR tax scheme here but are finding it may not be as ideal as you had hoped...

Is Living in Europe Worth It? - Pros and Cons of Expat Life in Europe05 Jul 202400:15:21

Thinking about moving to Europe? It's packed with cultural experiences and a laid-back vibe, but you need to consider both the upsides and the downsides. Europe offers affordable living, great public transportation, and solid socialized healthcare. Yet, in hot spots like Portugal, Italy, Spain, and Germany, the cost of living has been climbing, which can be a big hurdle. The ease of travel and the opportunity to soak in diverse cultures are huge pluses, but over-tourism in big cities and bureaucratic hassles can be tough. Understanding these can be key to making the most of the European lifestyle and your expat life. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter hosted by Rafael Di Furia, we'll go over the rising costs in popular destinations, the benefits of efficient public transport, access to socialized healthcare, the impact of over-tourism, and European bureaucracy. What I would have done differently when living in Italy...28 Jan 202200:24:56

There are always the ‘shoulda’, ‘coulda’, ‘wouldas’ one has when thinking about what could have been done differently.  This is what I reflect on in this video; what I would have done differently before moving to Italy. Expat life in Italy taught me a lot which I hope that those of you who are wanting to move to Italy or moving abroad anywhere, might be helped by. I'm so grateful for the time I was able to spend in Italy and am grateful to not be all that far away now in Portugal.  Even if Italy is not where you hope to move to you may find some of the concepts applicable to living abroad in many different countries. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to take a few moments to reflect on my time in Italy in hopes that it may help someone who would like to live abroad in Italy.

Getting Phone & Internet In Portugal - Overview Guide14 Jan 202200:30:09

Before moving to Portugal, I did a lot of research to make sure I was able to arrive and remain "connected". Because I have been working online for the majority of the past decade and now living in Portugal as an expat in Portugal, I have been able to continue my search to find what is the best internet in Portugal, where to get a sim card and test out some of the various options for getting mobile phone service or even home internet and TV in Portugal. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll go over what you will want to keep in mind when looking at phone, internet and mobile services here in Portugal.

Living In Portugal - My 1st month in Braga vs Living in Italy07 Jan 202200:30:52

I've been living in Portugal for just over a month so far and have been enjoying living in Braga. There are many differences I've come to see when comparing life in Portugal to living in Italy; everything from the people and culture to the food and even opening a bank account in Portugal and renting an apartment in Portugal. Even though moving to Portugal was something I hadn't planned to do, I'm quite grateful for the opportunity I've been given to explore living here. As a expat in Portugal I'm quite excited to get to know this country even better and explore more of this beautiful country.

Living in Italy - How Italy Changed Me After Almost 5 Years31 Dec 202100:19:24

Living in Italy changed not only my life but also me as a person. Going through daily life in Italy as a dual citizen expat is an experience that I'm so grateful I've been able to have.  After almost 5 years since moving to Italy of course, I have plenty to say. As we approach the end of this year, I can't help reflect on these past years in Italy and what I experienced there, the ups and downs, the positives and negatives, and to look at what I can take away from these moments in my own expat life in Italy. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I thought I would take this opportunity for the last video of 2021 to talk about these thoughts regarding life after a move to Italy and living abroad in Italy.

Moving To Portugal - How I did It23 Dec 202100:19:45

Becoming an expat in Portugal has been quite the undertaking.  Many of the subjects in today's episode are relevant to expats moving abroad from anywhere but there will also be even more relevant to those of you who may be moving in Europe and/or are a citizen of a European nation. After my move to Portugal, I can say all the headaches have been completely worth it!  To live in Portugal there are a number of important steps to take before you move as well as after you are already living abroad in Portugal. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I’ll be going over the steps I took to move to Portugal and get residency in Portugal to be able to live in Portugal.

My Moving Abroad Checklist & Where I've Moved17 Dec 202100:31:07

After more than a few international moves, I've come up with a moving abroad checklist that works for me and my needs to help make the transition into a new life abroad just that little bit easier. Living abroad come with many challenges, so why not try to remove some of them and help things to go more smoothly? In my most recent international move I used all of what I talked about in this episode and more to help make my life that little bit easier.... not to say there weren't a few bumps in the road or that everything was perfect. However, living abroad will be a life-changing experience that you want to make sure you can enjoy as much as possible. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I'll be sharing part of my checklist for moving abroad to live in another country as well as share with you all where I have moved.

3:19 - Part 2: Can you actually stay?

Living in Italy: Rovigo - A Small Underrated City10 Dec 202100:28:47

Living in Italy was a dream come true; to have been able to experience Rovigo, Italy really is what will leave me with positive memories of living in Italy. Having made a life in Italy for myself and having left a week ago, I wanted to take a moment to sit down and reflect on my thoughts regarding my adopted Italian hometown. Living as a dual citizen expat in Italy, has truly influenced my view of the world and even after moving abroad, I find myself constantly comparing where I now live to where I used to live in Italy. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to respond to questions I've received during my time living in Rovigo, Italy.

Goodbye Italy I'll miss you03 Dec 202100:19:58

I truly never thought I would ever have to make a episode like this. I’ll admit, while editing the montage section of this episode, it was quite surreal to look back on my time after moving to Italy. Living in Italy is something I always dreamed I would do, making a life in Italy for myself is a goal I can say with great joy that I’ve accomplished. Nearly 5 years ago I got Italian citizenship by descent and left everything behind to finally live out a dream to move to Italy. Expat life was nothing new to me, but to live in Italy full time is something that introduced me to the new particulars of what being a dual citizen expat in Italy means. I’m so grateful to be able to look at Italy for the rest of my life as my country. Even if I am not living there anymore, I will always in many ways think of Italy as home and always have a special place in my heart for Rovigo. Living in Rovigo Italy, as well as Merano has been quite special and I will never forget the wonderful friends I’ve made in these places. While I am saying goodbye, I should maybe correct myself... because in some ways goodbye almost seems so finite… In reality, this is see you later. Like the famous line goes… “I’ll be back…”  Arrivederci 🇮🇹😊

Don’t become an expat - Expat Life ain’t worth it... 9 Reasons26 Nov 202100:31:09

Expat life is simply not what so many of us build it up to be in our minds.  Many seem to think moving abroad and living abroad are life choices that guarantee a beautiful life where every moment is "Instagramable". It's important to consider that expatriation is a choice in life that will make a major impact on the day-to-day goings-on that you will live through as an expatriate. However, deciding to live in another country, as different as it can be, is still living life. Not every moment is perfect and it's important to embrace every moment for what it is so that when things are going great, you can truly appreciate how fantastic those top-notch moments are. Having spent the past 12+ years as an American expat I've without a doubt come to not only have an appreciation for how different so much of the world can be from where I grew up... but also how similar it can be as well.

15:44 - High expectations and top-notch service...

25:16 - Time to pop some bubbles?

DON'T Move To Europe - Here are 8 reasons why19 Nov 202100:29:26

Recently we've gone over why NOT to move to Italy as well as why you SHOULD move to Italy... In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to expand the discussion and zoom out to the rest of Europe. Regardless of where you would like to live your expat life, there is plenty to think about. Moving to Europe can present a person with plenty of wonderful things that life may have to offer but living in Europe also comes along with a few "caveat emptors" that may be worth taking into consideration. Some of these factors may not have a direct effect on an individual expat living abroad,  although for those expats moving internationally long term may see the direct and or indirect effects of some of these topics.

9 Reasons Why You SHOULD Move To Italy12 Nov 202100:24:33

Last time I spoke about what you SHOULD NOT  move to Italy, but in this expat podcast, episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I want to balance things out and talk about why you SHOULD in fact consider moving to Italy and only some of the reasons why I love living in Italy and in a small city. I wanted to share 9 of my favorite things about living life abroad as a dual citizen American expat in Italy. Regardless of where you are from, life as a foreigner in Italy presents so many wonderful moments that present a person with so many eye-opening experiences. As I've said so many times, even with all of the drawbacks, complications and dare I say problems that expat life in italy may present, these things are only part of the reason why I feel blessed to be able to call this country home.

To move to Italy or not to move to Italy.. that is the question. Whether you want to live in Italy or simply move abroad somewhere else, there are a multitude of factors to consider. In this episode, I wanted to speak about some of the "breaks" of the ‘make it or break it’ factors that people often overlook when they consider living abroad in Italy or just simply expat life in general. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to focus on 9 points to think about that I have seen make a massive difference when deciding what some people may think might actually be the best place for them to live in another country. It's worthwhile to understand the realities of expat life and both the wonderful and not so wonderful things that come along with living in Italy as an American expat.

Online Shopping in Italy29 Oct 202100:19:30

Like many places in the world, online shopping in Italy is very much available including plenty of options from all around the country.  When shopping online in Italy,  you also have the ability to purchase from domestic sellers which opens up the possibilities of what is available to you when living in Italy. Life in Italy may move at a different pace than many places, however, you do often have fast shipping options available to you which can be quite convenient. Shopping in Italy is a subject I've received questions about for years and in this expat podcast episode of not your Average Globetrotter, I wanted to finally talk about this one aspect of expat life in Italy. Keep in mind the cost of shipping and import fees/tax if you order from abroad, but sometimes options like iHerb and Amazon can be worth looking at with prepaid import duties and taxes.

Living in Italy VS The USA (Part 2) - A Few More Differences I've Noticed 22 Oct 202100:13:33

I continue to feel blessed to be living in Italy. Even before moving to Italy full time, I noticed many differences between the country I grew up in and this particularly beautiful country. Life in Italy very quickly starts presenting you some of the differences between what it's like to live in Italy vs living in The USA. There is nothing bad or wrong about the differences, it's just simply a different way of life. In this expat podcast episode of Not YourAverage Globetrotter I'll talk about how even though I left the USA more than a decade ago, there are still certain cultural norms that I haven't totally let go of, and seeing the differences still sometimes surprises me... even after almost 5 years since moving to Italy.

What's so great about living in the USA? - Thoughts After 12 Years of Living Abroad15 Oct 202100:16:05

Life abroad has lead me on a journey I never could have imagined.  After 12 years of living abroad, I've found there are fewer and fewer things that I miss from my "old life". But then there are some aspects that I still think about or even miss. Even though moving abroad or even specifically moving to Italy can present many wonderful new things in your life, not every aspect of living in Italy or any country is perfect. I can say though that I'm grateful for what my life in Italy has put in front of me, some countries seem to get certain aspects right and others seem to have different aspects right. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll go over some of the things I miss from the US and things that I wish were the same when living abroad.

Moving Abroad & Leaving America For Good - Not Just For the Rich and Famous08 Oct 202100:29:03
Leaving America for good is a consideration more Americans think about each year. While moving to another country may be more possible than most people think, there are still many details to take into account when moving abroad. Before you can even consider planning out your expat life, it is necessary to lay down some foundational work. Since having left America over 12 years ago, I've been blessed to have traveled and to have moved to a number of countries and learned a lot along the way. In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I'll be going over part of my method that I've used and what I look at during my research phase before moving abroad. While life abroad may differ greatly from country to country, there will always be constants that are necessary to research for your move abroad. There's not one way of planing a move to Europe, planning a move to Italy, planning a move to Asia or planning a move to South America, you'll have to figure out what is important for you, but even with that said, this episode will lay out a great blueprint to get started with planning to make your new life abroad possible.
Italian Green Pass Update 3 - What life in Italy is like right now01 Oct 202100:08:03
The Green Pass (certificato verde) in Italy is something that you will find is necessary for some situations but not others... for the time being... While life in Italy still retains some level of normal, there are simply some new aspects that are quite different than this time two years ago. For those living in Italy without the need to work in Italy, some of the new rules may not be as apparent in day-to-day life. Those who work in Italy in many if not most cases will need to have the green pass, but interestingly enough the Italian Green Pass isn't necessary for as many activities as it is in other parts of Europe, such as France.
Living in Italy VS The USA - A Few Differences I've Noticed24 Sep 202100:17:01
Living in Italy has been something that I've seen as a blessing to have been able to do. During my time making my life in Italy, I couldn't help but make some obervations about the differences between living in The USA vs living in Italy. I'm in no way saying one is better than the other, I just simply enjoy seeing what the differences are and to learn from the strengths of both ways of life. While in some cases, you do find many aspects of life to be the same after moving to Italy, you will also notice many differences in your life as an expat in Italy, even as an Italian dual citizen... In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, I'll go over a few differences I've noticed between these two countries as an American Expat in Italy.
Living Abroad - American Habits I've Left Behind17 Sep 202100:27:56
Living abroad is an adventure that takes you on twists and turns. Over time it changes you, who you are and maybe even your daily routines may change too. There have been a number of American habits I've lost along the way. There have been other changes to my daily life I've picked up that have been influenced by my life abroad and especially living in Italy. I noticed many of my habits shifting away from what was once part of my lifestyle. Although I must say the even after moving abroad more than a decade ago, there are a number of pieces of my American lifestyle I haven't been able to let go of while living a life abroad.
Responding to Sonia Candy's Response To "What I Hate About Italy... well... sort of"10 Sep 202100:37:52
Living in Italy can present many challenges... but none of the topics in this video could even remotely be considered among them. Yesterday I was quite surprised to find that one of my videos had received a video response, from someone who I'd never had any contact with before. It just so happens the episode in question has been one of the most misunderstood episodes I've ever made "What I Hate About Italy... well... sort of" . But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Sonia Candy (@SoniaCandyInsta on Instagram) actually was there to join in on the conversation and have some fun. I truly find it shocking how many people have misunderstood that video and think that these are major issues even after I said I laugh about these things and really almost never think twice about them.... I feel truly blessed to be able to live in Italy and make it my home and glad that Sonia was able to laugh along with me at some of these things. Covering everything from Italian food to living in Italy / expat life in Italy to Italian-American vs Italian culture and more, I can say this for me was definitely a fun episode to put together.

Living Abroad is Overrated03 Sep 202100:15:41
Yes, I've said it, living abroad is completely overrated! I will never understand the glamorization of living life abroad and expat life as well as the digital nomad lifestyle. Yes, the individuals may be embracing new places and cultures, but how it's seen as glamorous is baffling to me. I realize it may not be an easy decision to make, and for many moving abroad can seem difficult to make happen. But many people would be surprised at the realities of what it really is to live abroad and work abroad. For some people, it's a great temporary experience for a few months, but how much can you truly embrace in a short period of time. This episode is a follow-up to my recent expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter entitled "Expat VS Digital Nomad - There's a difference!" episode number 205.
Living in Italy - A Third Culture Kid's Perspective27 Aug 202100:52:35
Living in Italy and remaining in Italy can offer many wonderful possibilities in a person's life. But just like every other country, Italy isn't perfect either with a large number of people considering or wanting to leave. But for someone who has both the possibility of living in Europe or living in England, what are the reasons why a person might stay in Italy? In this expat podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter, we'll meet Italian podcaster and host of A History of Italy, Mike Corradi who is also an Italian dual citizen who also has Britsh citizenship and is an English teacher living in Reggio Emilia. We talked about his life as a third culture kid now raising kids in Italy and discuss his cross-cultural experience with an English mother and Italian father having lived in Italy, The US and UK.
Expat VS Digital Nomad - There's a difference!20 Aug 202100:21:15
Expat VS Digital Nomad; a discussion I often find myself a part of with other expats as well as future expats wanting to move abroad or even specifically to move to Italy, move to Portugal, move to Japan or wherever their hearts are called to. When researching information online, unfortunately, a lot of the information and terminology for expats living abroad and digital nomads seem to get confused and misused. I would argue that the digital nomad life is not the same as expat life and that the two are not the same, and there's no problem with that. I just personally think it's important to simply recognize it for the sake of clarity in these conversations about these lifestyles... especially for the benefit of people who are just looking into these subjects for the first time and learning about what it is to live abroad and enjoy a life abroad. Expat life and the Digital Nomad life both come with their challenges and benefits, but which one is right for you will of course depend on a number of factors.
