In this episode of Next of Kin: The Podcast, I’m joined by Dr Rafif Tayara, paediatric dentist, mum of three and founder of The Pediatric Academy.
We chat about her whole-child approach to paediatric dentistry and why oral health is about so much more than just teeth. We get into breathing, sleep, feeding, dummies, jaw development, first dental visits and some of the things we can look out for as parents.

This week on Next of Kin: The Podcast, I’m joined by Lisa Adair, founder of Lullabies, and honestly, this is an episode I needed as a new mum myself!
Lisa has over 20 years of experience as a NICU nurse and is now an IBCLC lactation consultant and paediatric sleep consultant here in the UAE. She supports families through everything from breastfeeding and sleep to baby massage, antenatal education and starting solids.
We get really honest about those exhausting early months of motherhood and the pressure that comes with feeling like you’re constantly doing something “wrong”.
We chat about newborn sleep, co-sleeping, breastfeeding, milk supply, comfort sucking and the endless opinions new mums can receive about how they feed and settle their babies.
Lisa also explains the difference between a baby being “overtired” and being dysregulated, why sometimes the best thing you can do is simply pick your baby up and help them feel calm, and why there really isn’t one perfect way to parent.
We also answer questions from the Kin Club, including what to do when your baby is fighting sleep, how to know whether your baby is actually feeding or comfort sucking, and the pressure mums can feel when choosing formula or breastfeeding.
And of course, we finish with the piece of parenting advice Lisa would happily see disappear forever...

On today's episode, I had the pleasure of speaking to Rachel Smylie the Founder of Mama Hub here in Dubai. But when Anushka welcomed her daughter to the world she decided to move back to Dubai to be closer to family, and this is when she set about using her background and values to set up Derby Home Health, and she quickly discovered the need for more support options for new parents so Nannies and More was created.
I was intrigued to hear what Anushka's former career entailed and how she has handled leaving that role and moving back to Dubai. I also wanted to pick Anushka's brains about all things Nannies and how Nannies and More are doing things differently.

Today I am joined on the podcast by Steph from Tots Play. Originally from Liverpool, Steph has 10 years of experience as a teacher specialising in Early Years, and recently bought Tots Play, baby and toddler development classes, over to Dubai from the UK. I first met Steph a few months ago when I started taking Bonnie to her Discovery Tots classes, which I highly recommend!
In this episode, we talk about baby development and how to play with your baby, especially in the early months. Steph is full of encouraging tips and advice from how to leave the house for the first time on your own with a newborn, to why baby sign language, yoga, and tummy time are recommended, and tips on how to try them out with your baby.
I really appreciate Steph opening up about her tough feeding journey, I can't believe after having to undergo surgery she was still encouraged to breastfeed, and after this chat, I wish we could eradicate the judgment around how we feed our babies.
Of course, I personally also had to ask Steph about how she was finding owning her first business so I can take some learnings for Next of Kin!

Nikki is originally from Scotland, married to an American, she has a dog from Montenegro, and a little boy Archie who all live here in Dubai. Becoming a Mum and her experience with postnatal depression was the catalyst for Nikki to take a completely new route from hairdressing to becoming a coach, speaker, and maternal mental health advocate. The simplicity of Nikki's approach, as well as her wonderfully warm personality, is what drew me to want her to be my very first guest here on Next of Kin. She offers us a glimpse into her 10 steps which she has cleverly made into an online course Stepping Into Parenthood.
