You're Watching That AGAIN! Repo! The Genetic Opera06 sept. 202600:53:57

You’re Watching That AGAIN! is the movie podcast from Nerd Subculture where Edwina and Jarrod revisit the films they’ve watched so many times they practically know the dialogue by heart, and dig into why some movies become more than just movies.

For this special episode, we’re putting the usual rewatch chat aside for a heartfelt tribute to Anthony Head following his sudden passing. We’re celebrating one of our favourite films he brought to life, Repo! The Genetic Opera, a gloriously weird, wildly camp, completely bonkers musical cult classic.

There’ll be favourite moments, memorable performances, plenty of discussion about what makes Repo! so wonderfully unhinged, and a lot of love for Anthony Head and the mark he left on the films and characters we’ve come to adore.

It’s a rewatch with a heavy heart, but also a celebration of a film, a performer, and the joy of finding something you can watch AGAIN and AGAIN.

Once More With Feeling - 7 x 7 Conversations With Dead People09 août 202600:46:21

The only way Edwina could get her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was by starting a podcast about it! This episode, we're talking about the fairly conceptual episode Conversations With Dead People, where Buffy finally gets the therapy she has so desperately needed and the Big Bad of the season reveals it’s self.

What Makes A Good Adaptation?19 juil. 202600:49:21

Welcome to the podcast where we turn our rage into content. Each episode, we deep-dive into whatever is currently grinding our gears, from everyday annoyances to the kind of stuff that makes you yell at clouds. This week, we're sinking our teeth into Interview With the Vampire TV Series, the phenomenal adaptation of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, and the recent The Vampire Lestat season. Which, of course, sent us spiralling into a conversation about Queen of the Damned, the film adaptation that somehow had all the source material and still managed to miss the point.

Was Queen of the Damned really as bad as we remembered? Or has time softened the blow? That debate quickly snowballs into a bigger discussion about what makes a great book adaptation, and why so many Hollywood adaptations completely lose what made the original special.

Along the way, we compare adaptation hits and misses and debate why some adaptations become classics while others leave fans wondering if the filmmakers even opened the book. If you enjoy dissecting movies versus books, or just want to hear two people passionately argue about the best and worst adaptations ever made, this episode is for you.

Once More Withe Feeling - 7 x 6 Him05 juil. 202600:41:14

The only way Edwina could get her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was by starting a podcast about it! This episode, we're talking about the  Him and how it is perhaps one of the worst aged episodes of Buffy.

Why the f*#k are my kids begging to see Backrooms? 07 juin 202600:28:46

Welcome to the podcast where we turn our rage into content. Each episode, we deep-dive into whatever is currently grinding our gears, from everyday annoyances to the kind of stuff that makes you yell at clouds. If you’re a confused Gen-Xer or Elder Millennial who is confused about why the teens are going nuts for an A24 arthouse movie, we have the podcast for you. You’re Watching That AGAIN! Psycho Beach Party 200010 mai 202600:57:22

You’re Watching That AGAIN! is the movie podcast from Nerd Subculture where Edwina and Jarrod unpack the films they’ve watched far too many times, and the emotional connections that keep pulling them back in.

Following the sudden passing of Nicholas Brendon, we decided to dedicate a tribute episode to one of our favourite films in his career, the cult classic Psycho Beach Party. It was never a box office hit, but over the years, this strange, hilarious, and genuinely unique film has built a loyal following. Blending 1960s beach party movies, Hitchcock-inspired psychological thrillers, and campy 70s slasher films, it feels like the kind of bold, chaotic movie that simply would not get made today. Featuring an incredible cast of rising actors, Psycho Beach Party became one of those films we found ourselves revisiting again and again. In this episode, we talk about why it has stayed with us for so long, what Nicholas Brendon brought to the film, and the complicated feelings we have around his death.

You can also reserve your copy of the Limited Edition Blu-ray Yesterday Is Almost Here using the link below.

YESTERDAY IS ALMOST HERE - Limited Edition Blu-ray [Pre-Order Reservation Link] or find it on our Linktree

In Yesterday Is Almost Here, Nicholas Brendon plays struggling screenwriter Douglas Wynter, a man spiralling after the death of a close friend and unable to finish the script that could save his career. Hoping for a reset, his wife Veronica arranges a quiet weekend getaway, but when an estranged friend and his mysterious wife unexpectedly arrive, buried tensions, dangerous obsessions, and painful truths begin to surface. What follows is a psychological and deeply personal journey through grief, identity, addiction, and self-destruction.

We Need To Talk About Avatar 26 avr. 202600:29:54

Welcome to the podcast where we turn our rage into content. Each episode, we deep-dive into whatever is currently grinding our gears, from everyday annoyances to the kind of stuff that makes you yell at clouds. In this episode, we are late to the party on this one, but after seeing Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jarrod has an axe to grind with Mr James Cameron. Jarrod is a big fan of movies like Terminator 2 and Aliens, but the Avatar movies seem to be the same movie remade with a different font, but it’s Papyrus to Herculanum. We discuss why we have an issue with this.

Once More With Feeling - 7 x 3 Same Time, Same Place12 avr. 202600:40:24

The only way Edwina could convince her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was to do a podcast about it. This week, we’re breaking down Same Time, Same Place and asking the important questions, is Gnarl the creepiest monster in the Buffyverse, and did the Scoobies let Willow off the hook way too easily?

International Buffy Day Special 05 avr. 202600:38:04

Today on the podcast, we’re talking about the news that hit a lot of Buffy fans hard, the Buffy: New Sunnydale reboot pilot was not picked up to series by Hulu.

Like many fans, I was genuinely upset. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s video had me in tears, and she didn’t hold back, calling out a Hulu executive who made it clear he was not a fan. The narrative quickly became that the pilot was “bad” and that Chloé Zhao’s vision would have somehow damaged the Buffy legacy, but fans weren’t buying it.

Out of that frustration, something pretty incredible happened. A small group of creators came together and launched International Buffy Day.

So today, I’m here with a pitchfork in both hands, ready to ride at Dawn. I’m joined by @brennyboombox and @mrworldnyc, two co-founders of International Buffy Day, happening April 14, to discuss what it is and how you can get involved.

International Buffy Day is both a celebration and a protest, a global show of solidarity from Scoobies everywhere. LET'S BE THE ANNOYING THORN IN HULU'S SIDE.

How to get involved:

  1. Attend in-person rallies in New York City and Los Angeles
  2. Join the “Class Protector Project” by sending cocktail umbrellas to Hulu headquarters
  3. Stream Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the day, if you can’t do a full marathon, watch “The Prom”
  4. Follow @International Buffy Day on TikTok and Instagram
  5. Spread the word, create content, like and share information.

If you’d like to get more involved or organise your own rally, you can reach out at Internationalbuffyday@gmail.com

If you’re planning to attend a rally or host one in your city, make sure to fill out the International Buffy Day rally sign-up form. Int. Buffy Day Rally Sign-up

In-person rally details:

New York CityMeeting Point: Union Square, Engel Plaza (outside 14th St, 4, 5, 6 MTA station)Time: 12pm

Los AngelesMeeting Point: Goodboybob Coffee Roasters, 2058 Broadway, Santa MonicaTime: 12pm

Schedule for both cities:Meet at 12pm, then walk to the Hulu offices at 12:30pm.

@InternationalBuffyDay will also be live streaming throughout the day on TikTok.

If you’re attending, wear your Buffy merch or cosplay, and bring a sign.

Class Protector ProjectSend cocktail umbrellas to Hulu headquarters along with a note about what Buffy means to you. Mail-in campaigns have worked for other shows in the past, so this is a chance to show just how strong the Buffy community is.

Camp vs Cringe24 nov. 202500:32:23

Welcome to the podcast where we turn our weekly rage into content.
Each episode, we deep-dive into whatever is currently grinding our gears — from everyday annoyances to the kind of stuff that makes you yell at clouds.
In this episode, we are dragging the way cringe gets tossed around like confetti at anything people don’t like. We pull apart what cringe actually means, what camp is, and how the terms are mixed up and weaponized. We also delve into how having more access to subculture spaces online has made it more acceptable for the internet to slap the cringe label on it. We round it out by looking at how that fear of being called cringe is clipping the wings of artists, creators and a generation that could be making stranger, braver work.

In this episode, we delve into one of our favourite horror comedies, the meta masterpiece that is The Cabin In The Woods.

Once more with feeling - 6x18 Entropy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)06 août 202500:48:17

The only way Edwina could convince her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was to do a podcast about it.
This week, we unravel Entropy. An episode so on-the-nose with its title, it might as well be screaming. Lies unravel, friendships fracture, and revenge gets messy. It's the emotional equivalent of a slow-motion car crash, and just when you think it can’t get worse, someone opens their mouth and makes it worse. But through all the wreckage and emotional chaos, there is just the tiniest, cruelest glimmer of hope to keep us from collapsing into the void.

Bonus discussion: Streaming sevices10 avr. 202500:30:53

Welcome to the podcast where we turn our weekly rage into content.
Each episode, we deep-dive into whatever is currently grinding our gears — from everyday annoyances to the kind of stuff that makes you yell at clouds.

We’re kicking things off with the streaming apocalypse. HBO Max just landed in Australia like a content-hungry vulture, swiping shows from every other platform. So naturally, we’re asking:
Have streaming services officially ruined streaming?
(Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes, but with more swearing.)

Tune in for hot takes, eye rolls, and mildly informed rants. It’s cheaper than therapy and only slightly more chaotic.
