Introducing Naked Sports with Cari Champion - Season Four!26 Aug 202400:01:03

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese caused a media frenzy after their infamous “you can’t see me” exchange in the 2023 NCAA championship game. There was a fierce debate over their perceived rivalry and it only intensified once they became the hottest prospects in the WNBA's rookie class.

The media’s fixation on their so-called rivalry has been fueled by the same gender and racial bias that has haunted women’s sports for generations. And now that Clark and Reese have brought thousands of new fans to the sport, is it safe to say that this storyline is what the WNBA needed?  Or has it invited toxicity into a space that has always prided itself on its inclusivity and sisterhood?

In this groundbreaking series, Cari Champion searches for answers from those who know Clark and Reese best – from the coaches who helped shape their game, to the players and journalists who have witnessed their meteoric rise first-hand. Champion traces the incredible parallel paths of not just these two historic talents, but the WNBA itself, and sets the stage for the collision course that has brought us to this very moment. The Making of a Rivalry: Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese is not just about two of the brightest flames the sport has ever seen, but it also asks an essential question – in a time of such divisiveness, is it possible to let greatness unite us?

TOO SHORT – The Game of Hip Hop11 Jul 202201:02:25

It’s this thing think called, Hip Hop and as it evolves and continues to open new chapters, the veterans of the genre are also finding new ways to design their thrones.  TOO SHORT a pioneer of West Coast Rap came into the game in the 1980s with lyrics often based on pimping and promiscuity. TOO SHORT was committed to telling the stories of Oakland, California; using humor and pimp vernacular he created a vibe capable of using the word “b*tch” as a term of endearment.  TOO SHORT-born Todd Anthony Shaw has been able to evolve with the music, now with a locked-in icon status is still recording, performing, and having fun with it.

Two America's with Michael Harriot06 Jun 202200:50:11

Michael Harriot is an author, culture critic, and humorist.  He is an “expert” on white people (aka a Wypipologist) and their behavior patterns and also coined the phrase, “invited to the cookout”.

Harriot is the Senior Writer at TheRoot.com where he covers the intersection of race, politics, and culture.  Also, animal attacks. (But mostly the politics and race stuff.) His work has appeared in the Washington Post, The Atlantic, NBC, BET, and on his mother’s refrigerator. He is a frequent political commentator on MSNBC and CNN and earned the National Association of Black Journalists Award for digital commentary as well as TV news writing.

He grew up home-schooled by his mother because she believed that a black person’s humanity cannot be fully realized in the presence of white folks.  Harriot’s mind was cultivated without the influence of an inferiority complex which probably also inspired his fascination with the differences between Caucasians and Blacks in this county.

Roe v. Wade with Marianne Williamson09 May 202200:50:51

Younger women who weren’t born or active during a time when abortion was legal, don’t have a reference to the pre-Roe vs Wade era. But what is it? What is Roe vs Wade and why is overturning it causing such an upset?

Roe v. Wade is the name of the lawsuit that led to the landmark 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision establishing a constitutional right to abortion in the United States.

Ok, now that you know, do we have to explain why overturning it has created great concern not just for women's rights, but for the legal right of same-sex marriage, Trans rights, and perhaps civil rights as well.

Marianne Williamson is a passionately pro-choice woman who has previously run for political office and is a member of the Democratic Party.  She is a bestselling author, political activist, and spiritual thought leader. She joins us on this episode of, Naked to expound on the differences between the political parties and the repercussions of the decision to change this existing law.

She reminds us that it is ok to feel discouraged; there are enough hours in the day to cry, but there is also time to kick ass and get up and do something towards making legislative change.

Tea Time with Brandon Marshall25 Apr 202200:50:07

This week is the upcoming 2022 NFL draft, so of course, the topic for discussion is, "football." Joining us today is Brandon Marshall who gets Naked about his time in the league and in media as a journalist. After five years of not taking interviews, Marshall recently speaks with Colin Kaepernick on his show "I AM Athlete" about his hope to return back to the league. The debate is will it happen and if it's possible for an activist to exist in a league that merely tolerates players, not their opinions. The question...the possibility still lingers as we wait to see if Kaepernick will ever return back to the field to play the game he loves.

But before we conclude, Marshall takes over, "Naked" at the end of the podcast turning the table on Champion to ask her one question.

“Thank you for today, thank you for yesterday and if I am blessed enough to see it, thank you for tomorrow.” Tristan Mack Wilds started his career early in life and now as a father and a more seasoned actor - he has learned to be more present in the moment; whether with his daughter or within the daily lessons that teach him how to be a better actor. Wilds talks about his jarring experiences in theater starring in, “Thoughts of a Colored Man” currently on Broadway in New York till March 2022. There is no holding back, Tristan is showing up in the multi-hyphenated universe of film, theater, and music…with all hats spinning. After four years, Wilds returns to music with a complicated love song entitled, “Simple Things” and no pun intended but it’s safe to say Tristan has his, “SWAGGER” back! (also the name of his new show on Apple TV+).

Dawn Staley grew up in a very competitive household that prepared her for whatever the outside world would throw at her - but nothing could have readied her for being a female basketball player in the early ’90s. The WNBA was non-existent, players did not have many career opportunities to compete professionally, but Staley was determined. During this episode, Staley speaks openly about her journey and what it took to get her here, and the risk involved-one thing is for certain; she earned this moment. Now back to the game.
