In this episode I get to talk to Brian Stannard, author of the book 'Alcatraz Ghost Story', based on the life of Roy Gardner. Roy was an American criminal active during the 1920s. He stole a total of more than $350,000 in cash and securities and several times escaped from custody. He is said to have been the most hunted man in Pacific Coast history, having had a $5,000 reward for his head three times in less than a year. The newspapers in the West referred to him as the "Smiling Bandit", the "Mail Train Bandit", and the "King of the Escape Artists." He was one of the first inmates transfered to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.

Alexander Solonik was a Russian gangster, known for his reputation as a notorious hitman in the Russian criminal underworld. Also known as Sasha-Macedonian and Superkiller, Solonik admitted to committing 43 contract murders and was involved in Russian Mob activity for much of the 1990s until disappearing after his third escape from prison. Solonik was found dead in Athens, Greece, in 1997.

Dave Bocks, a 39 year old pipefitter, disappeared during the facility’s graveyard shift and was later reported missing. Eventually, his remains were discovered inside a uranium processing furnace. After the investigations, insufficient evidence was found relating to the death and the official ruling was that no foul play was involved. Some believed that he was murdered by one or more coworkers who suspected him of being a whistleblower in the 1984 nuclear emissions scandal.

People who have stigmata exhibit wounds that duplicate or represent those that Jesus is said to have endured during his crucifixion. The wounds typically appear on the stigmatic's hands and feet (crucifixion spikes) and also sometimes on the side (a spear) and hairline (a crown of thorns). If stigmata is real, there is no medical or scientific explanation for it. Wounds do not suddenly and spontaneously appear on people's bodies for no reason. On Monday, October 18, 2010 Sergeant Sean Drenth of the Phoenix Police Department was found shot to death in an alley. What fellow officers found when they responded to the scene continues to haunt them. Sgt. Henry McCabe was last seen on September 6th, 2015 and his death occurred sometime in the early morning of September 7th. His wife receives a bizarre voicemail on Sept. 7 at 2:28 a.m. which features two minutes of undecipherable noises, including what sound like growls and moans of pain. Near the end of the voicemail, the sounds suddenly stop and a voice can be heard saying, "Stop it." This is one of those cases that will have you scratching your head.

Barbara Miller was reported missing by her estranged ex-boyfriend on July 5, 1989, after attending the wedding of her best friend, Lori Wands, in Mifflinburg on June 30.
In 1990, Sunbury police first reported they believed Barbara Miller may have been murdered. Police began interviewing potential witnesses, including Mike Egan, a former Sunbury police detective who was also her boyfriend at the time.

On October 8, 2009, William Hurley disappeared from Boston, Massachusetts. He had been attending a Boston Bruins game at TD Garden and had called his fiancée to pick him up halfway through the match. She drove to the stadium, but when she arrived, Hurley was nowhere in sight. She called him to find out where he was waiting, and she heard him ask someone where he was. A man said "99 Nashua Street,” and Hurley told her his cell phone was going dead. She drove to the address, but Hurley was not there.
That was the last time anyone heard from Hurley until a week later when his body was found in the Charles river. Not far from where he was last heard from.

The Skystone was discovered in 1990 by Angelo Pitoni, an archaeologist and geologist, in Sierra Leone, West Africa. On April 14th, 2004 - Roger Lindberg and his brother Sune were attacked in their home in Kalamark, Sweden. Sune survived while Roger did not. Within days the local police zeroed in on their suspect who was identified as Kaj Linna. He was charged and found guilty of the crime. Then, out of nowhere a Swedish podcast picked up the case and found that Kaj might have been wrongfully convicted and it turns out that he was. Kaj was released from prison after serving 13 years. But that still leaves the question, who killed Roger Lindberg?

On November 17, 1989 the body of an infant girl was found in Rupert, Idaho. This was not just any unsolved case though. She had been dead for no more than five days and was dismembered, disemboweled, possibly skinned, and burned. Both hands were missing. So was the right arm, at the shoulder. The abdominal organs had been cut out, leaving only the lungs and a portion of the upper heart chamber. The body had been placed in the metal drum on its back, clothed, before being torched with gasoline. If you think that's weird.....this case gets alot weirder than that!!!!

Of all the lurid desperadoes, one man, John Dillinger, came to evoke this Gangster Era and stirred mass emotion to a degree rarely seen in this country. He operated with a group of men known as the "Dillinger Gang" or "Terror Gang", which was accused of robbing 24 banks and four police stations, among other activities.
