Dakshima moved to Canada in 2016 from Sri Lanka. Before moving, She was a private legal practitioner for 8 years, often taking on pro-bono cases to aid underprivileged clients in the community. It wasn't until she immigrated to Canada that she felt there was another path to providing support. She's a board member in the Gender and Sexual Diversity Board of Calgary Police Services and founder of Dilipani, meaning "A Guiding Lamp" and she calls it a sign of hope for those struggling with their sexual identities.

Soumya landed in Canada on the day of a snowstorm in February 2020 which was nothing compared to the storm that he had to face 15 days after landing when the Pandemic was declared. Even with years of experience as a human resource business partner in India, no response from hiring managers was looming, and he and his spouse were forced to work as a cashier at Dollarama to make ends meet.
