Rod and I go back many years, we’re both from good old Canberra, and Rod and I played shows when my band Alchemist played gigs with his band who were called Henry’s Anger, and they were a great band- go and google em. Anyhow Rod has now become a gate keeper if you like for one of the world’s most prestigious music print media brands. He’s the editor of Rolling Stone Magazine Australia, and even during this hectic period of digital disruption, Rolling Stone seems to be holding it’s own. Although Testament's line up has changed over the years, Chuck has remained one of the constant members of the band that formed way back in 1986. That’s 30 years in the music business people- A very impressive feat to still be going and to still remain relevant in the often superficial world that is the music industry. As you’ll hear in my interview, one of the super important reasons that Chuck, along with his long standing band mate Eric Peterson have been able to continue with Testament, and continue making money, is because they learned about the music business. | 84. Cherie Currie - Legendary Vocalist of All-Girl Punk Band 'The Runaways' | 22 May 2016 | 00:19:21
The Runaways are one of the most influential bands of the 70’s- certainly the most influential all girl band of any era. And my guest today is the original lead vocalist of that group- the lovely Cherie Currie, and what a story she has to tell. Like I mentioned The Runaways basically rocked the music industry to their core with their attitude fueled performances and sexually explicit lyrics- all being fronted by a 15 year old Cherie Currie. They were wild, and drug fueled, and presented to the world as basically 'jailbait'! If you’ve seen the awesome film titled “The Runaways”, which is partially based on Currie’s brutally honest memoir then you’ll know what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t seen it – go see it! Cherie is touring Australia in a few weeks so if you’re interested her show dates are available in the show notes at: musicbusinessfacts.com! I hope you enjoy my conversation with this living rock legend. Website: musicbusinessfacts.com
| 83. Satchel - Lead Guitarist for Steel Panther | 20 May 2016 | 00:29:42 | |
My expert guest today is Satchel- lead guitarist for the very talented and incredibly funny American parody glam act Steel Panther. I’ve got to admit that this is definitely the most politically incorrect episode of Music Business Facts ever, but it was a lot of fun to interview this guy. Satchel’s real name is Russ Parish and I did inquire if he’d be interested in doing a “serious” interview, but he wasn’t, so when I realised that I’d be speaking with the character “Satchel” I thought I’d have a bit of fun with it and have a bit of a crack at comedy myself. So don’t take this episode of the show too seriously! Although, there are actually a couple of good music business facts in this interview, most of it is just a bit of fun so I really hope you enjoy it. Steel Panther are touring Australia next month in June. If you haven’t seen them live before they are an excellent band, kind of a cross between Motley Crue, Skid Row, Van Halen and Rodney Rude- It’s a great show and if you like your 80’s metal performed flawlessly and delivered in a hilarious R rated manner you’ll love Steel Panther! I’ve met Karl a number of times now whilst he’s been here in Australia and he is making a full time living as a death metal guitarist.
