Ep 182: Jordan

jeudi 14 juillet 2022Durée 58:29

This week were back to share the story of punk icon Jordan. Born Pamela Rooke, Jordan was always an original. Combining her passion for dance, music and fashion led her to Kings Road where she got a job working with Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren at their iconic store SEX. It was there she sparked inspiration into everyone who entered, becoming muse to musicians, filmmakers and fashion designers alike. From starring in films such as Jubilee, to making onstage appearances with the Sex Pistols and Adam Ant, Jordan was at the epicentre of it all. Filmmaker Derek Jarman said it best... "As far as I was concerned Jordan was original. everyone else in the fashion side follows on from her. Even Vivienne and the shop because with Jordan the shop wouldn't have worked. She was the original Sex Pistol. everyone else came in and saw Jordan dressed up and the attitude and it took off from there. She was the godfather, godmother, if you like. She was the purest example of them all" Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 181: Annette Walter Lax & Keith Moon

jeudi 21 avril 2022Durée 54:00

This week we get a glimpse into the last four years of Keith Moon's life and his relationship with girlfriend Annette Walter Lax. Annette Walter Lax was only 18 years old when she met The Who drummer Keith Moon. Originally from Sweden, Annette went to London to pursue her modelling dreams, only to get caught up in a rock n roll whirlwind. After meeting Keith, the pair became inseparable. But the rock n roll dream could also be a nightmare. Keiths wild partying and heavy substance abuse led to a manic lifestyle, with Annette caught between love, taking care of him, and her own dreams. Special thanks for Ellen Fielding for joining me on this episode. Make sure to check out Ellen's amazing artwork on her instagram @ellenfielding_ Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 172: Patti Johnsen Part 2

jeudi 30 septembre 2021Durée 01:08:12

This week I am joined once again by the magnetic Patti Johnsen in a discussion on what being a true groupie means. You may remember our previous interview with Patti Johnsen, alumni of the Rainbow Bar & Grill as well as the creator of the Groupie Round Table, or perhaps you remember her name from the fabulous chapter she has in Pamela Des Barres book Let's Spend the Night Together. We previously discussed her time touring with Van Halen, meeting George Harrison, her decade long job at the Rainbow, the formation of the Groupie Round Table and rock n roll "Holy Grails". This time around Patti and I discuss the term groupie, what it means to us and it's misconceptions. We also discuss rock n roll decadence, "Almost Famous" tour moments, her incredible friendship with Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, and what it's like to wake up next to Billy Idol! Patti is one of a kind, she is naturally beautiful inside and out and has the truest groupie soul. It's always such a pleasure to talk to a true groupie sister and I'm so happy she came on again to share more from her incredible past. Patti is also the speaker of one of my favourite interview quotes...."Just because you haven’t fucked a rockstar doesn’t mean you’re not a groupie. A guitar, a Les Paul comes off the assembly line, it hasn’t been played yet. Does it mean it’s not a guitar? Of course it is! And you put that in the hands of a rockstar, you just wait to hear that fucker sing! You are still a groupie because once you get in the hands of a rockstar baby, wait to hear you sing.” If you haven't listened previously, you can listen to our first discussion back in Episode 108. You can also check out our 20 Questions blog post with Patti! Ep 90: Interview with Kristin Casey

jeudi 18 octobre 2018Durée 01:43:00

Today’s guest is Kristin Casey, author of the book Rock Monster: My Life with Joe Walsh as well as a surrogate partner and intimacy coach. Yep, we said Joe Walsh, a wildly (emphasis on wildly) talented musician and songwriter in his own right as well as a member of Eagles and Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band, just to name a few. We spoke with Kristin about her serious long term relationship with Joe Walsh, but as is the muses tradition, we get into so much more with our muse du jour. We talk about the spiritual connection between the Muse and Musician, our mutual love of Miss P- Pamela Des Barres, understanding the male psyche, objectification that’s consensual and the importance of nurturing female sexuality. We also get into what it was like to spend quality time with a Beatles, her crazy bond with Levon Helm, the writing process of her book and her journey into the profession of surrogate partner and intimacy coach. We had so much fun with Kristin and definitely believe that she is one of soul sisters. We hope that you get just as much out of this as we did. Enjoy the show. You can follow Kristin on Twitter @mskristincasey and be sure to check out her book website http://kristincaseyauthor.com/. EP 88: The Muses at Sun Studio

jeudi 20 septembre 2018Durée 01:17:55

In August we had the great pleasure of heading down to Memphis and doing a tour of The Legendary Sun Studio. With Elvis acting as our guardian angel, that tour turned into a late night, after hours recording session with Daniel Hall and Ples Hampton. Daniel and Ples were the most amazing hosts AND guests, making us feel welcome and sharing their insight and knowledge on Sun Records history, amazing women such as Marion Keisker and Barbara Pitman who greatly contributed to Sun Studios past and about the first all female radio station Sam Phillips created in the 1950’s. They also share some personal stories about what it’s like to work at Sun Studio, the magic of recording there and recommend some great local emerging artists. You’ll also get to hear the story of how our podcast Muses and Stuff was born! After the miss were off the fun kept going, the magic continued and you’ll be able to see some of the adventure when we release our travel video! You may have recently seen Sun Studio in the news thanks to a visit by Mick Jagger and Jerry Lee Lewis. After all these years the place is still a hub for amazing talents and legendary recordings. Revisiting this was an absolute delight and certainly a night we will never forget. Thanks to Daniel and Ples for inviting us to record and for all your great stories! We look forward to our next chat. You can check out Daniel’s music here:https://soundcloud.com/crockett-hall/tracks & keep with with Sun Studio on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. EP 87: Erin Everly, Stephanie Seymour & The Rocket Queen

mercredi 12 septembre 2018Durée 01:12:57

Axl Rose and his band Guns N' Roses may have been a well known name on Sunset Strip but the band had yet to cut a full length record when he met model Erin Everly. The two became inseparable however right from the start friends could see it wasn’t the healthiest relationship. Their time together would inspire many of Guns n Roses most well known songs, but the volatile nature of their relationship would overcome any good that was there. After their split Axl would meet another model, Stephanie Seymour and repeat past behaviours. Stephanie would also serve as a muse, starring in two of GNR’s most famous videos, “November Rain” and “Don’t Cry”, but their time together would be short lived and lead to an onslaught on court battles for Rose. Then there’s the Rocket Queen(s). Barbie Von Grief was a wild child who would inspire the entire band early in their career. Her continual support as a friend would encourage them to chase their dreams no matter how tough times got. She co-wrote a song that would later only be dedicated to her – Rocket Queen- but it was another woman, Adriana Smith, who would be featured in the song in quite a unique way. Listen to learn more!
