A weight loss journey can feel like a lonely struggle. But it doesn’t have to be.

For so many of us, lifestyle changes like deciding to lose weight, adopting a nutritious diet, and taking up fun exercises are all about putting our own health and wellness first. But it can be really hard to know where to begin — or how to keep the weight off once we’ve seen some progress. Quick fixes like soup diets and juice cleanses are unsustainable and often unhealthy. There’s a much better way to embark on this journey that over 200,000 people have already chosen. The Ro Body Program.

Here’s how it works. Ro gets you access to one of the most popular weight loss shots on the market.  Their Ro Body Program then sets up a comprehensive weight loss program tailored to your specific lifestyle, health status, and goals. In addition to the weekly shot, you get one-on-one coaching with a registered nurse. That can help you adopt and stick with lifestyle changes like exercise routines and nutritious diets. It’s a comprehensive program that sees participants lose 15-20% of their weight in a year, on average. But the real benefit is that you keep that weight off.

You’re not alone in this. Ro can help you lose weight step by step, from the insurance paperwork for the medication to answering questions and checking in on your progress. And the process is so convenient. You can sign up at home.

We wish the Ro Body Program had been around when we started our weight loss journeys, and we’re both looking forward to trying it in order to emphasize our health. This is weight loss at its most sustainable.

With Ro, the average weight loss is 15-20% in 1 year, with healthy lifestyle changes. BMI and other eligibility criteria apply.

The Delphi Murders: More Confessions12 Apr 202400:54:24

According to his defense team, Richard Allen has made numerous incriminating statements about the Delphi murder case while incarcerated. They claim this is because of mental health concerns and have asked Judge Frances Gull to throw out the evidence. If this evidence remains, it will damage Allen's claims of innocence.

The Delphi Murders: Crowdfunding04 Apr 202401:41:34

Recently, attorney David Hennessy — apparently at the behest of attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin — launched a crowdfunding effort to raise funds to assist in the defense of Richard Allen, the man charged with the killing of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

In this episode, we take a look at the issue of crowdfunding legal defense in general by speaking with Julienne Pasichow and Hilary Gerzhoy, two attorneys who covered this topic in an informative article for Law 360

https://www.law360.com/articles/1727278/avoiding-the-ethical-pitfalls-of-crowdfunded-legal-fees

In response to The Murder Sheet's request for comment, Defense Diaries creator Bob Motta threatened to "respond in kind' to any criticism and invited himself on the program. As noted in the episode, Mr. Motta has a history of spreading falsehoods about the Delphi case and the creators of The Murder Sheet.

We also discuss some of the details of the Allen fundraiser in particular, including the role of a prominent defense YouTuber.

Finally we will cover the recent incident where graphic crime scene photos were shown on a YouTube channel.

The Fentanyl Files: Dealing Resulting in Death: A Conversation with Chief Deputy Prosecutor Zach Craig28 Mar 202401:02:24

Today, as part of our new occasional series The Fentanyl Files, we’re going to focus specifically on the legal side of things. In order to give prosecutors an extra tool to use in this crisis, the Indiana legislature passed a law making dealing resulting in death a level 1 felony. To be blunt, that means that if you sell someone fentanyl- or another drug- and that substance causes that person’s death then you can face up to a 40 year prison term.

But what does this mean in practice? How are prosecutors using this law? What sort of cases are they seeing ?

To find out we went to talk to Muncie to speak with Zach Craig. Zach is the Chief Deputy Prosecutor of Delaware County and currently leads the state of Indiana in getting convictions under this statute.

In-depth journalism is more important than ever in a complicated, chaotic time.

That’s why we listen to PR’s Throughline. This is a podcast that appeals to us on so many levels. As history buffs, we love their historical contextualization of important ongoing issues. As storytellers, we love the engaging way their approach and often humanize complicated issues. As news consumers who want to stay informed, we love the way they give the story behind the big stories of the day.

We try to take a similar approach on The Murder Sheet, and we feel confident that our listeners would enjoy giving NPR’s Throughline a try too.

We’ve been going through their entire backlog recently, listening to them as we drive to source meetings. One favorite of mine was their episode about Andrew Johnson’s impeachment. Throughline’s coverage didn’t disappoint, delving in depth into one of history’s worst US presidents and the legal significance of the first ever presidential impeachment.

They also did an episode that is so pertinent to our work was about the proliferation of conspiracy theories, and how they’ve always been part of America’s DNA. That’s something we think about a lot, given the creep of misinformation and manipulation in online true crime spaces.

NPR’s Throughline is a source we trust. They’re all about nuance and depth and unpacking the messiness behind outwardly simple stories. In a world when it’s getting harder and harder to know what sources to rely on for information, they’re a standout in terms of their research and thoughtful takes.

Go back in time. Learn something new. Emerge more knowledgeable about today’s headlines. Listen now to Throughline from NPR, wherever you get your podcasts.

The world is a complicated place and troubling issues often echo throughout history — that’s something we know all too well from reporting on various crimes. But oftentimes it’s really helpful to engage with a show that can take you back in time, to unspool the pressing issues of our time a

How did we get here? That’s the central question of NPR’s Throughline. This is a show we both love to listen to as history buffs,, because of the way it contextualizes important stories. You know The Murder Sheet is all about that, whether we’re talking about the firestorm of victim-blaming over the murder of Roseann Quinn or the longstanding rumor about poison-happy waiters in early 20th century Chicago. If you like coverage like that, you’ll love NPR’s Throughline.

NPR’s Throughline tackles some of the most pressing issues of the day. But it goes in depth. It’s multi-faceted. It’s fair and sharp and unafraid of delving into messiness and nuance. We loved their recent episode that gets all into the history of public defenders in the United States. It’s such engaging storytelling, and you come away really understanding so many of the current pitfalls of our legal system, how Sixth Amendment rights weren’t always defended, as well as the background of how crusading attorneys helped shape our system to become more quitale.

They also did an incredible episode on the association of Grenada’s Prime Minister and his Cabinet, focusing on the quest of one widow who sought to expose her husband’s killers. They’ve also covered topics we love, like Abraham Lincoln’s politicking, the true history of Halloween, and one 1930s Oklahoma bank robber’s impact on Second Amendment rights.

In today’s internet age, we’re constantly bombarded with hot takes and outright misinformation. NPR’s Throughline is a show we trust for in-depth research and cogent, thoughtful opinions. It’s a show where we go to learn even more about history, to find out all about the all-to-human tales that continue to shape our world today.

Go back in time. Learn something knew. Emerge more knowledgeable about today’s headlines. Listen now to Throughline from NPR — wherever you get your podcasts.

A Conversation with Author Nicholas Meyer About Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell26 Sep 202400:57:00

For many of us, our first foray into the world of the art of detection came as we followed the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes. Reading the stories of the great detective's adventures with Dr. Watson may have been what turned some of us into life long lovers of mysteries-- both fiction and the real life variety.

One of the best modern writers about Sherlock is Nicholas Meyer. His first novel about the great detective-- the Seven Per Cent Solution-- was published back in 1974 and related the until then unchronicled tale of how Sigmund Freud helped Holmes overcome his addiction to cocaine. It was later made into a film. Since then, Meyer has continued to periodically revisit Holmes, writing several more engaging tales about the detective.

And now he is back with another Sherlock Holmes story-- though all of them have been wonderful, this new one is probably his best. Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell spells out the fascinating and heretofore untold story of a crucial secret mission Holmes and Watson undertook in the United States during the first world war-- at a time when America was not yet involved in the conflict.

The Murder Cases of Willie Manning: Is Mississippi About to Execute An Innocent Man?06 Feb 202400:44:47

Willie Manning has been convicted and sentenced to death in Mississippi twice– for two separate double homicides. But- from there- things got complicated pretty quickly.

There were substantial evidentiary issues with one of the convictions. Manning’s attorneys were able to get it thrown out and the state dropped those charges.

The other conviction still stands, though– and the state still wants to execute Manning. But there are problems with this case too. Years after the case, the Justice Department and the FBI sent prosecutors a letter about the testimony given at the trial by their scientific experts. They said that the testimony had gone too far, that it had “exceeded the limits of science and were, therefore, invalid.”

But, again, the conviction still stands and the state of Mississippi still wants to execute Manning.

So what exactly is going on here? To help us try to figure it out, we spoke with some attorneys from the Mississippi Office of Capital Post-Conviction Counsel who are working on Manning’s case. They’ll discuss the details of both cases, why he was convicted, what they see as the problems with those convictions and what exactly they think should happen next.

Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn survived an unimaginable trauma on the early morning of March 23, 2015. Criminals invaded Quinn's home as the couple slept in bed. They were both bound and drugged. Huskins was abducted and Quinn was left behind to secure a ransom payment. When both managed to survive the ordeal, they fell under suspicion from law enforcement, the media, and the public.

Their harrowing and infuriating story is the focus of the Netflix true crime docu-series American Nightmare. The couple also authored a book on the case: Victim F: From Crime Victims to Suspects to Survivors. In this interview with The Murder Sheet, Huskins and Quinn will discuss the awful crime they both survived, subsequent legal wranglings, lingering questions about other suspects and law enforcement misconduct, and the possible changes that could make police invesetigations fairer and compassionate.
