What follows is a light hearted school story of people trying to get through their ordinary, and extraordinary, lives, and Hikari the vampire being a goof.
Meanwhile, in What We've Read, Tom only gets to a game and a few books of the crystal series Land of the Lustrous, while Louie knocks out the end of The Shinji Ikari Raising Project and the first books of Sun Ken Rock.

Caught up on reading, Tom and Louie are back with a real review this week with the first two volumes of Teppu, the female amateur MMA manga. Natsuo goes on a journey to not be bored and crush the joyful spirit of "Giant Eyebrows" Yuzuko, who can actually kick the crap out of Natsuo. Tom takes the lead walking us through this fighting series and the interesting way the characters have been decided. Meanwhile, in a fortunately much shorter "What We've Read", Louie just watched some more of Reincarnated as a Slime's newest episodes, while Tom knocked out the second half of Fire Force and finished the recent Frontier Lord novel 14.

Louie investigates his way through the Dresden Files, remembers the best part of the Re:Zero anime with the final episode of this part of the season, and solos another volume of Solo Leveling. I Was Reincarnated as a High Elf and Now I'm Bored by rarutori, and today we work through the first novel of this warm and joyful journey through a life of saying goodbye to everyone as they pass on to the afterlife. Meanwhile, in What We've Read, spring anime season has started (as of recording), and Louie looks at a few he has been waiting for, like Re:Zero season 4, Reincarnated as a Slime S4, and the newly released Witch Hat Atelier. Tom, however, had a light week, with the newest Peddler in another World (book 12) and finally returning to DanDaDan (vol 16-18).

And now, with the unbelievable powers of a dragon, you will have the opportunity to go through the greatest trial humanity has ever created . . . High school! With today's episode, we look at the amazing manga series RuriDragon, an almost entirely non-fantastical series about growing up and dealing with high school, only the main character Ruri turns out to be half dragon. Many series have done similar things, but unlike others RuriDragon remains quite grounded and normal; it's really a high school drama with one person having horns rather than any sort of fantastical series of events, and it's generally positive world, while sometimes a little unbelievable, is an enjoyable read that just hums along. Meanwhile, Louie takes time to talk about what he's read recently with Volume 3 of Baki the Grappler and the ending of Frieren's second season of the anime, while Tom continues into the world of Infinite Dendrogram light novels.

Today . . . is an episode. Much of it is us catching up with what we've read (so many we switched back to alternating between us), so come and listen to our thoughts on a whole range of topics, from the beginning several books of Infinite Dendrogram, the end of Chainsaw Man's manga, the newest Witch Hat Atelier manga volume, Wash it All Away, and a whole slew of others. Our main topic, however, ultimately landed on our favorite Ebook site for buying these series, Bookwalker, getting a major update to it's design (ultimately, I believe because the US version is now run by a different company) and user interface and our litany of problems with it. This was recorded a few weeks ago when the site was released, and they are working on improving aspects of it, but it's also not a good design. So, strap in for whatever this is today, because we're back, baby!

In a good way . . . well, i guess it usually is, but this comedy of cosplay and dollmaking of two oddballs with lots of respect but poor impulse control is absolutely worth checking out. Meanwhile, in our What We've Read, Tom stumbles through a single Drops of God and rediscovers an old favorite in Blame!, while Louie splits evenly between several manga and anime series, including the new Baki and Frieren animes.

A world where dinosaurs are as normal as a flamingo exhibit at the local zoo, with incredibly good designs and understanding of their (possible) physiology. In addition, in our What We've Read, Louie doubles down on the biology research with Interviews with Monster Girls, while Tom sees a faint glimmer of hope in his continuing alcoholic adventures of Drops of God, now that he reaches the halfway point. As well, in our What We've Read, Louie brings up the first volume of the fascinating series Strange House, while Tom actually explains the series Drops of God as he continues down that long running series.

Well, with 2025 now behind us and a whole year of the podcast done, come and join us as we walk through the entirety of our favorites we've discovered this last year. First, we take some time to look over our top 5 of 2024 (from episode 1, no less) and then we dive deep into our large pile of honorable mentions. Louie definitely doesn't get upset at Tom failing to include a series anywhere in his list here that was edited from a later section then re-edited out for other reasons, nope.

A mix of Japanese high school shennanigans, superhero ridiculous action, and shonen optomism, we spend the entire episode gushing about how much we love this, and the opening is full of wonderful things. Beyond that, in What We've Read, Louie goes further into camping and gaming with more of Laid Back Camp and I Want a Gal Gamer to Praise Me (and some Frontier Lord while we're at it), while Tom returns to a series he's read before but never talked about, This is Screwed Up But I Was Reincarnated as a GIRL in Another World! . . . is very serious, thought provoking, yes.

Watch in wonder as Belgrieve unintentionally wins against seemingly more powerful swordsmen. Be amazed as he deftly maneuvers around others expectations due to Angeline's endless boasting about his ability. Squeak in joy as he unknowingly becomes a semi-adoptive father of Angeline's party members. . . . Oh, and then there's the not silly part of the rest of the book, that's good too.

That is the entire premise for The Hero and The Sage, Reincarnated and Engaged, a series with characters so overpowered punching a dragon in the face with their bare hands and knocking it over is them struggling. In addition, Louie has finished Tokyo Ghoul and started into Tokyo Ghoul: Re and gives his initial thoughts, Tom gets back into Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life in the Countryside and definitely remembered that title in full, and both gush, once again, about Otr and the Flame and The Creepy and Freaky.

And so, the meandering trio of Frieren the Mage, Fern the apprentice mage, and Stark the cowardly warrior (or, cowarrior, if you will), enter into the next city to engage in a spot of brutal combat to the death with a trio of demons acting as a peace envoy and their leader, this arc's titular Aura the Guillotine. Covering chapters 14 to 23 (or middle-ish book 2 to middle-ish book 3), the story takes a different tack as we see what makes Frieren the mage of the Hero's party that slew the Demon Lord. Meanwhile, Louie has started down the path of Tokyo Ghoul, Tom revises some of his thoughts from the previous episode's review of Realist Hero's first book, and they both somehow manage to spoiler free "review" the end of Eden's Zero and it's final volume.

This week, we cover the secretive world of Daemons of the Shadow Realm by Hiromu Arakawa in it's first two volumes. There will be battles. There will be danger. There will be a multi page mini story of Yuru showing he understands how to use a modern bathroom. In addition, Louie introduces us to two new series he's picked up in Dungeon Builder: The Demon King's Labyrinth is a Modern City! and A Cave King's Road to Paradise: Climbing to the Top With My Almighty Mining Skills, who's titles alone take up this entire sentence but are also actually interesting. Life is not a straight line, and today we look at a lighter take on that with My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S Rank Adventurer by MOJIKAKIYA, volumes 1 of the light novels or volumes 1 and 2 of the manga. Having read both between us, though, we do get pretty far into the weeds on the differences between the two versions, and cover the range of normal seeming weirdos that inhabit the adventurers guild and the small village of Orphen. (Don't take this description too seriously, we make dumb jokes too). In our what we read, we also cover a whole, massive range of stories, such as more silly-seriousness with the Elden Ring manga and another few quick summaries of the Mushoku Tensei novels from Louie and a whole smattering of things from Tom such as Soara and the House of Monsters, Survival in Another World with my Mistress manga because reading the whole story once wasn't enough apparently, the insane hilarity that is Life With An Ordinary Guy Reincarnated as a Total Fantasy Knockout volume 7, and even (gasp) something not Japanese with James Baldwin's The Fire Next Time which Tom is eminently unqualified to speak on but muddles though the best he can because it is so good. Look, I realize part of this is to make a funny joke and break the ice for the series we're about to talk about but that actually is a massive positive for main character Chise Hatori in the Ancient Magus' Bride, chapters 1-7 (or volume one and about half of volume two). Tom also takes some time to run down the entire second half of All Rounder Meguru, both talk about the fun of the recent Otr and the Flame chapters, and Louie gets into Battle Angel Alita and it's big-eyed Hollywood movie. This week we look at the first volume of I Picked Up This World's Strategy Guide by atchi ai, a full color manga that Tom really, really thought wouldn't take long to talk about. But, despite it's goofy premise, the narrative does have some fun twists to share. Beyond that, Louie works through So I'm a Spider, So What's? manga, Tom finally gets caught up with the Housekeeping Mage novels, and both continue to gush on Otr and the Flame and The Creepy and the Freaky.
