Inside Out (2015) | Family Friendly Kids Movie Review | Ep. 10829 Jul 202600:39:25

Today we head inside the mind on this nostalgic family movie review, bringing real film analysis to one of the most beloved kids movies of the last decade — Pixar's Inside Out (2015). Does this emotional journey through Riley's move from Minnesota to San Francisco still fill all the feels, or has it lost its spark 10 years later?

Isaac and Seth break down the staggering numbers behind one of Pixar's best original movies: a rare 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, an 8.1 on IMDb, and $859.1 million at the box office on a $175 million budget. Plus the gut-punch Bing Bong sacrifice scene that still gets them both, and a genuinely rare split decision on the official rating — Isaac calls it one of Pixar's most personal, beautiful films, while Seth just can't get past how visually overwhelming it feels on rewatch.

Also in this episode: personal memories from opening weekend over a decade ago, the Kid Test with Isaac's own kids, and Granny's official family-friendly rating (B+ for adult themes and frightening imagery).

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) Family Movie Review | Ep. 10723 Jul 202600:32:36

On this podcast covering the best kids movies and family-friendly films, Isaac and Seth bring real film analysis and honest movie reviews to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) — a true classic among children's films. Does this underwater epic still hold up 70 years later, or has it sunk after all this time?

They break down Captain Nemo's hatred of mankind aboard the advanced submarine Nautilus, Kirk Douglas' scene-stealing charm as harpoonist Ned Land, and the legendary giant squid battle — still one of the most ambitious practical effects sequences Disney ever attempted. Plus the two Oscars this film won (Best Art Direction, Best Special Effects), making it the first fully live-action Disney film to take home an Academy Award outside of documentaries and shorts.

Fun facts you'll want to share: Gregory Peck actually auditioned for the role of Captain Nemo. The underwater footage was shot in the same Bahamas location used for the 1916 silent version. And Kirk Douglas' $175,000 salary was the highest Disney had paid any actor up to that point.

Plus the Kid Test — mixed reactions across Isaac's four kids, with one surprise favorite — and the official rating: does it go home, get watched at Grandma's, or get hidden in the attic?

#098 | Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) Movie Review21 May 202600:31:47

Was rebooting Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers a brilliant move to capture '90s nostalgia, or just a cheap bootleg of a beloved classic?

In Episode 98, we’re heading to the "sketchy part of town" to revisit the 2022 meta-adventure. We debate whether this movie was a successful rescue mission for our childhood memories or a wrecking ball for the Disney Afternoon legacy.

From Ugly Sonic and Roger Rabbit to the "CGI surgery" debate, we’re breaking down all the cameos and Hollywood commentary.

In this episode:

  • The Nostalgia Factor: Does it live up to the original Disney Afternoon hype?

  • Trivia Time: Will Seth finally stump me with this week's trivia question?

  • The Rating: Does this movie earn a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or the Hollywood Walk of Shame? We give it our official Granny’s Family Friendly Rating.

Put your feet up on the detective desk—we’re watching another movie at Grandma’s House.

Toy Story 5 : Jessie Takes the Lead, Conan O'Brien Steals the Show & Is Woody Really Back? | Movies at Grandma's House Bonus Episode22 Jun 202600:17:45

Isaac just got back from the theater with his four kids — and he's sharing his full experience watching Toy Story 5 opening weekend! In this bonus audio episode of Movies at Grandma's House, he breaks down his honest thoughts on Pixar's newest entry in the beloved franchise, now spanning three decades from 1995 to 2026.

Here's what you need to know before you go:

🤠 Jessie is the main character — not Woody. Director Andrew Stanton (a Pixar veteran) frames Toy Story 5 as the beginning of Bonnie's trilogy, with 4, 5, and a potential 6 serving as a companion arc to Andy's original three films.

🚀 Buzz Lightyear is back — and Isaac feels like Toy Story 5 corrects one of the biggest criticisms of Toy Story 4: the dumbing down of Buzz's character. He's more like his old self here.

😂 Conan O'Brien voices the scene-stealer — a new character called SmartyPants, a high-tech potty training toy who gets some of the biggest laughs in the film.

🎬 The returning cast is stacked — Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Keanu Reeves as Duke Kaboom, and Wallace Shawn as Rex are all back. Voice actors who have passed away are handled respectfully with reduced screen time.

📱 Technology and tablets are a central theme — the film feels modern and timely, exploring what it means to be a toy in today's world, with a new villain called Lillipad leading the charge.

With $312 million worldwide in its opening weekend alone, this is shaping up to be one of Pixar's biggest hits. Isaac shares why he thinks this film is aimed as much at the adults who grew up with the series as it is at kids — and why he thinks Toy Story isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

RocketMan (1997) Family Movie Review | 10616 Jul 202600:35:27

Buckle up, because things are about to get weird. On this podcast covering the best kids movies and family-friendly films, Isaac and Seth bring real film analysis and honest movie reviews to the 1997 Disney live action comedy Rocketman — starring Harlan Williams as Fred Randall, a bumbling computer programmer who somehow ends up on a mission to Mars — to find out if this children's film still has the right stuff nearly 30 years later.

Seth has watched this one more times than he can count and calls it the funniest kids movie ever made. Isaac came in fresh — and his four kids went from refusing to watch it to belly laughing at fart jokes and slapstick within the first twenty minutes.

They break down Harlan Williams' unhinged performance, the surprisingly clever writing underneath all the silliness, the iconic fart scene that had NASA detecting methane levels, and why Bud the chimp laughing before anyone else is actually the funniest moment in the whole film. Plus the Commander Overbeck dynamic that turns this into a love-it-or-hate-it comedy in the mold of early Jim Carrey and Will Farrell.

Fun facts that will blow your mind: Adam Sandler was originally considered to play Fred Randall. The working title was Space Cadet — changed specifically because they wanted to use the Elton John song. The three lead astronauts went to space camp in Alabama to prepare. And the production crew spent weeks at a NASA facility in Texas just to get the feel right — for a fart comedy.

Seth takes it home without hesitation. Isaac gives it a Watch It at Grandma's — and fully admits he needs a rewatch to catch everything he missed the first time around.

If you loved this movie growing up, this episode will take you right back. If you've never seen it — prepare yourself.

  • 🌊 The nostalgia factor: Is it a tear-jerker or just cheesy?

  • 🐋 The "Blackfish" effect: How our view of captivity has changed.

  • 🎥 The acting performances of Jason James Richter and Lori Petty.

  • 📼 Our final verdict: Take it Home, Leave it at Grandma's, or Hide it in the Attic?

Get ready to "Move It, Move It" as we rewind to 2005! In this episode of Movies at Grandma's House, Isaac and Seth break out of the Central Park Zoo to review DreamWorks' animated hit, Madagascar. We debate if this star-studded comedy featuring Ben Stiller (Alex), Chris Rock (Marty), and David Schwimmer (Melman) still holds up against modern animation, or if the "simple" style shows its age.

We reveal crazy behind-the-scenes movie trivia, including the shocking fact that the Penguins of Madagascar were originally pitched as a barbershop quartet and the hidden "lion face" detail in the ocean foam. Plus, Isaac shares why the "savage Alex" scenes actually terrified his kids , and Seth explains why King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen) and the penguins steal the show. In this honest movie review, we travel to the hills of Austria to debate if this Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer masterpiece still holds up over 60 years later. While it has a legendary status and stunning cinematography, with 12 songs, the film might be too long for modern audiences compared to today's musicals.

The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005) Family Movie Review | 10509 Jul 202600:38:06

On this podcast covering the best kids movies and family-friendly films, Isaac and Seth bring real film analysis and honest movie reviews to The Greatest Game Ever Played — the 2005 Disney true story that most people have completely forgotten about — to find out if this children's film still holds up 20 years later.

Seth saw it in theaters (during a power outage, no less) and has rewatched it many times since. Isaac came in fresh, having never seen it before — and was blown away.

They dig into Bill Paxton's masterful direction and the revolutionary ball cam shot he invented specifically for this film, Shia LaBeouf's quietly powerful performance as Francis Ouimet, and the scene-stealing Eddie the caddy who provides some of the best comic relief in any Disney sports film. Plus they break down Harry Vardon's subtle psychological warfare on the course, Ted Ray's perfectly dry one-liners, and the father-son relationship that provides the emotional backbone of the entire story.

Fun facts that will surprise you: the real Francis and Eddie remained lifelong friends — Eddie was a pallbearer at Francis' funeral. And in reality, Francis didn't win by one dramatic stroke — he finished five strokes ahead of Vardon and six ahead of Ray. Hollywood compressed it for drama, and honestly? It works.

This one is criminally underrated and deserves way more attention than it gets.
