Grumpy Old Men: Schmuck! Putz!04 May 202600:55:20

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are warring neighbors with heaps of arthritis. We watched the 1993 film from Donald Petrie, Grumpy Old Men, and its 1995 sequel from Howard Deutch, Grumpier Old Men.

We’re kicking off Sean’s birthday month with a one-two comedy punch, featuring two of the greatest actors to have ever graced the screen. Nobody knows bring grumpy and old like those two.

What better way to celebrate/mourn Sean's journey into old-guy-hood than by jumping headfirst into these two movies? Rest assured, after having watched these two, we now know what it takes to be old and grumpy.

War of the Worlds (2025): Teams Will Be the End of Us All27 Apr 202600:32:47

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are video calling our way into saving the world. We watched the 2025 film from Rich Lee, War of the Worlds.

No matter where you are, no matter what you’re doing, even if literal aliens are attacking the world, rest assured that Ice Cube will be watching you. He has the technology. He also has high-level government clearance.

Is that as creepy as it sounds? You’d better believe it! We are all for him saving the world from alien invaders, but we don’t want him watching us while we shower. The creep. Perhaps we’d all be better off if he was just fighting gigantic snakes in the Amazon.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are swinging through the jungle to save our lady love. We watched the 1997 film from Sam Weisman, George of the Jungle.

You know him. You love him. He’s the one, the only, the certifiable King of the Jungle: it’s Viscount Greystoke himself! Give it up for the greatest to have ever swung from a vine, everyone!

Hold on, I’m being told now that Greystoke is Tarzan, and George is definitely not Tarzan. Hey, I won’t hear any unkind thing said about our George, though. Who better to feature for this month’s B-movie episode?

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens: A Newer Hope01 Jul 202401:02:08

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are back to fighting the freaking Empire… erm, I mean the First Order. We watched the 2015 film from J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… evil space dictatorships just won’t stay put down. Just when you think the magic space wizards have established peace, someone comes along with an enormous, planet-destroying laser weapon.

It’s enough to make you want to pick up your fearsome laser sword and start hacking down some bastards. Is it too much to ask for just an eternity of peace and prosperity amongst all the connected planets?

But oh no, there’s always a whiny man-boy who just has to ruin it for everybody instead of going to see a therapist about his daddy issues. This is why we can’t have nice things! For the love of Chewie, just one nice thing!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on a mission to stop the most evil force in the galaxy. We watched the 2016 film from Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Dust off those lightsabers and laser blasters, rebels, because we’re taking on the meanest, the baddest, the most fascist of entities in the entire universe: it’s the Empire!

When you’re up against the wall and all your options are looking grim, are you just going to curl up into a ball and hope it’ll all blow over? Hell no! You’re going to assemble your finest band of rebel warriors and you’re going to do what needs to be done!

Be like Jyn Erso, be like Cassian Andor, be like Chirrut Imwe, Baze Malbus, and perhaps the greatest of them all, K-2SO. Those are the heroes we both need and deserve.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: Tree Vengeance10 Jun 202400:39:34

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on the hunt for righteous revenge. We watched the 2024 film from George Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Gear up, buckle up, and shut up because it’s time to hit the open wasteland road! Or rather, the fury road. When your destination is beyond vengeance, there’s no time to waste.

Furiosa, the character, not the title, is pissed. Beyond pissed. Not only was she stolen from her abundant home but her mother was ruthlessly killed right in front of her. I think that would fill anyone with the urge to get even.

Our advice: stay out of her way. Put the pedal to the podcast metal and enjoy this thrilling episode about the most exciting moviegoing experience since the last Mad Max movie.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are trying to figure out who we are and what the heck everything means. We watched the 2024 film from Jane Schoenbrun, I Saw the TV Glow.

You know those inscrutable films that feel like they’re amazing, that feel like they have a deeply personal message, but you just can’t make heads or tails out of a single moment?

If those qualities sound familiar, then do we have a film for you! Pop some popcorn, lean back, and get ready to have your mind blown (and possibly your personal identity enlightened).

This is cerebral sort of film that will undoubtedly inspire deep reflection and conversations. It’s the sort of thing that’s made for this wonderful podcast!

IF: Hey Keith27 May 202400:43:39

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are making some new friends that may or may not be real. We watched the 2024 film from John Krasinski, IF.

There’s a kid inside all of us just waiting to burst back into the world. As we grow older, we tend to forget the childlike wonder and creativity we’re gifted with. We become, and I shudder to say this, adults.

But becoming an adult doesn’t mean we always have to act like the people we once were are gone forever. We can still appreciate the beauty around us. We can still dream big. We can still have delightful conversations with our imaginary friends.

If this film can help any one of us dream like our younger selves once did, then I would call it a rousing success. And it’s a heck of a fun ride, too!

The Mummy: You Must Not Read from the Book!20 May 202400:48:39

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are unleashing an ancient evil into this world. We watched the 1999 film from Stephen Sommers, The Mummy.

Look, accidentally uttering evil words from a surely cursed book that should never have been dug up in the first place could happen to anybody. It’s not like Rick or Evie meant to awaken the great and powerful Imhotep.

Mistakes happen, you know? It’s kind of a jerk move to keep getting on their case about it. They mean well—Evie is a naturally curious lover of ancient Egyptian history and Rick is just a swashbuckling pretty boy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It all makes for a thrilling film, and one that’s celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary as of this writing! Head back into the desert for a rollicking good time.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to teach these damn kids a lesson! We watched the 2018 film from Brian Taylor, Mom and Dad.

Old age will come for us all, and when it does you’d better hope you either don’t have kids or that they’re far away from you. If that sounds harsh, then just give this film a watch. I’m certain you’ll understand afterwards.

Really it’s for their own good. I’m assuming you would or do love the children you have. Surely, you wouldn’t want to murder them to death because of some mysterious sickness that’s out of your control.

I’m not encouraging anybody to neglect their children. Far from it. However, nobody wants to go full Nicolas Cage on their asses. You’re not going to get a “World’s Best Dad” mug after that.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to survive another terrible day at school. We watched the 2014 film from Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, Cooties.

We all remember elementary school, right? Droning lessons, playground politics, and of course, the thing that has surely defined those years for everyone: turning into a bloodthirsty zombie and eating all the adults we can find.

Ah, those were the salad days. The days when we could spend eight hours stuck in what felt like a prison. Our eyes would watch the slow seconds tick away on the clock. Our mouths would hunger for the blood of our prey.

We took over the world then. We made everything we saw into our own. We laughed, we bonded, we gruesomely tore apart everyone who was older than we were. The days were delightful. The brains were delicious.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are searching the world for the love that we lost. We watched the 2024 film from Baltasar Kormákur, Touch.

Sometimes love doesn’t work out how it’s idealized in the things we read and watch. Sometimes we can live a picture perfect romance story. Other times, our great loves can disappear seemingly forever.

What we can do is always look and fight for the people we love and who love us back. Our movie this week teaches us that one moment doesn’t have to be forever.

Tropic Thunder: I’m a Lead Farmer, Motherfucker22 Apr 202400:37:51

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are questioning our very existence deep in an Asian jungle. We watched the 2008 film from Ben Stiller, Tropic Thunder.

Both of us have worked on enough film sets to be able to definitively say that, while this movie is a fun, action-packed romp, it could also be a completely factual documentary. That’s how accurate the performances were.

We would never wish having to work with a method actor on any of you, but if you’ve been around one, then you know what we mean. It’s a harrowing experience, much like being fired upon by relentless adversaries.

Enjoy this episode about a film that’s both hilarious and completely, 100% accurate in every possible way. Yeah, even the Tom Cruise stuff.

Double Dragon: But Steven, Why?!15 Apr 202400:31:29

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are combining their powers to try and make it through this dang thing. We watched the 1994 film from James Yukich, Double Dragon.

Every once in a long while, we here at More Movies Please! watch something that makes us wonder why we ever started a movie podcast in the first place. Indeed, sometimes we even wonder why we have eyes to watch movies with.

This month’s b-movie episode could end up being just such an occasion. The ‘90s gave us some wonderful cinematic moments, but they also gave us some true dreck. Often the dreck was based on a video game series.

Listen on to this episode to discover how Double Dragon fared. Was it brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder?

The 13th Warrior: A.K.A. Little Brother08 Apr 202400:41:20

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are riding into desperate villages around the world and kicking some serious butt. We watched the 1999 film from John McTiernan, The 13th Warrior.

When you absolutely, positively need to vanquish a pillaging army of cannibalistic, bear hide-wearing terrors, there’s only one group of people to call upon: the freaking Vikings.

There’s hardly ever been a group more bloodthirsty, more fearsome, and more relentless than those Scandinavian bastards. The village in this film entrusted them with their lives. I would also trust them with everything.

Don’t believe me yet? Just give this film a watch (and this episode a listen). These thirteen warriors are ready to prove that they’re the right people for any job.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: Tall, Dark, and Horny 😉01 Apr 202400:59:56

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean ain’t afraid of no ghosts. We watched the 2024 film from Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

If there’s one thing in this world that I love, it’s a nice and chilly weather system slowly passing through my area. Loads of people in Southern California love this place for its consistently warm weather. I’m not one of those people.

I’ve got to be honest, that chilly demon in this movie didn’t seem all that bad to me. Did it take things too far by killing loads of people? Of course. But I love a cozy, puffy coat so much. I’m really torn here.

If only there could be demons intent on helping to fix this climate crisis that’s afflicting us all. Where are the benevolent demons? Make that the third film in a trilogy and I’m sure we’ll all be happy Ghostbusters fans.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Theives: Just Fix It with Magic18 Mar 202400:39:55

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are crawling through some of the dreariest dungeons and fighting some of the pudgiest dragons. We watched the 2023 film from John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

I think this film should be a fair warning to us all: if any of us ever happens to run into Hugh Grant, then we should just smile and flee as fast as possible. Nothing good ever comes from meeting him.

Don’t expect a Notting Hill or Love Actually situation. He himself has said that he’s a bit of a grump. In fact, he’ll probably not even acknowledge you and just grumble away.

Actually, we here at the podcast love us some Hugh Grant. There’s nothing wrong with the man, and we’ll probably grow up to be just like him. Just… keep an eye on the guy. Who knows when he’ll try to steal your precious gold.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are fulfilling the future that was foretold about us. We watched the 2024 film from Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two.

It’s not often that one ends up discovering a timeless prophecy about a destiny that is almost impossible to imagine. It’s a whole other thing when that prophecy turns out to be true.

You’d have to be an egomaniac to assume that you’d grow up to be the messiah for an entire planet. That’s not just something that happens on any random Tuesday. Talk about messing with the mind!

But it happened to Paul Atreides, the young man from the far-off Caladan who goes to live on the desert planet, Arrakis. His story will span centuries and will inspire untold numbers of people.

Knights of Badassdom: Stop Reading Creepy Books, Damn It!11 Mar 202400:41:06

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are slapping on our swords and sandals and taking down creepy succubus monsters once and for all. We watched the 2013 film from Joe Lynch, Knights of Badassdom.

Put aside any negative thoughts or preconceived notions you might have about the enjoyable activity (lifestyle?) of LARPing, i.e., Live Action Role-Playing. Not only is it a blast, but it just might be your chance to save the world.

Our recommendation: go into the LARPing day with the expectation that you’re going to end up fighting for your life. Those foam swords may not be too effective against a murderous magic demon.

That was surely the point of this film. Have fun and be safe out there, but know that there’s a fair chance you could end up battling some kind of terrible hellspawn.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are off to the movies to see a film that they won’t soon forget. We watched the 2024 film from S.J. Clarkson, Madame Web.

Every so often there comes a movie that becomes the talk of the world. It enters the zeitgeist, becoming a fixation from which no one is immune. It takes up free space in our heads, filling us up with sticky webs of pop culture.

Madame Web is just that sort of movie. Has it happened for all the right reasons? We’ll leave that up to you to decide, but we will mention that it’s coming from the same studio that gifted us all with Morbius.

Suit up for this once in a lifetime film. Much like the titular madame, we’re going to recruit/kidnap you into this burgeoning team of “spidey” heroes.

Puppy Love: Dogs Welcome! People Tolerated…26 Feb 202400:49:44

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are letting the love of the darn cutest puppies wash over us! We watched the 2023 film from Richard Alan Reid and Nicholas Fabiano, Puppy Love.

I know that these two characters, Nicole and Max, clearly have personal issues that they need to work on. That’s an unassailable fact (and Max probably had a lot more work to do, but who’s keeping score?).

But when there are a couple of adorable dogs in the mix? How in the world could anybody be anything but absolutely charming and content? Even with all the crap of life to contend with, there’s still the love of a dog.

Enjoy this month’s B-movie episode as much as we enjoyed talking about this charming film!

All My Life: Now or Never19 Feb 202400:46:24

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are following up last episode’s sad story about losing a loved one with an equally sad story. We watched the 2020 film from Marc Meyers, All My Life.

We didn’t really plan to have such similar, heartbreaking stories about losing life partners to cancer back-to-back, but here we are. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and then you have our anti-Valentine’s Day celebration.

But this film poses a good question: if you knew for a certainty that you had a limited amount of time with the one you loved, then how would you spend that time? It’s something we should all consider.

Enjoy this touching film and the excellent conversation we had about it.

Spoiler Alert: The View from Under the Christmas Tree12 Feb 202400:52:33

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are here for their loved ones, no matter what it takes for them. We watched the 2022 film from Michael Showalter, Spoiler Alert.

Love defies anything and everything. It can surprise you. It can excite you. It can lift you out of the deepest wells of sorrow, despair, and hopelessness. It’s safe to say that it’ll always be there for you if you let it into your life.

For Michael Ausiello and Kit Cowan, it was the force that brought them together, and then kept them from splitting apart during the worst moments of both of their lives. When Kit begins to die from inoperable cancer, love made their final moments together worth the pain they endured.

We hope you enjoy this great movie and the meaningful conversation we had after watching it.

(Early in the episode, Sean makes a passing remark about years in a gay relationship equating to a “normal” relationship. He apologizes for the ignorant remark. There’s always a lot of work for straight people to do and he’s trying to be better.)

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are forming an eternal and powerful bond of friendship. We watched the 2009 film from John Hamburg, I Love You, Man.

If there’s anything I know for certain, it’s that long-lasting friendships are based on three things:

  1. Life-changing fish tacos.
  2. A deep and abiding love of the greatest band of all time, Rush.
  3. You’ve got to slappa da bass.

Once you’ve got those three things covered, then the friendship is golden. Not even the concern from your fiancée about how close and weird you’re getting with your new friend will be enough to derail the love.

To all the incredible friendships out there, we salute you!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on an unstoppable quest to rescue our dearest and cutest kitten. We watched the 2016 film from Peter Atencio, Keanu.

Today, we’re wrapping up our celebration of all things Keanu Reeves with a fur-filled adventure story filled with crazy drugs, terrifying hitmen, and probably the most photogenic kitten ever.

It also happens to be our B-movie episode of this month. It’s not a B-movie in quality—you’ll hear all about that—but it’s as close as we’re willing to get with our celebration of this glorious person.

It’s also a great Key & Peele film from the days when they weren’t a voice in a Mario movie or taking the horror world by storm. This thing’s got it all!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are vowing to take down all the evil punks who dared to kill our dogs and mess with our lives. We watched all of the John Wick movies!

John’s on the run. Big time. You break the rules of the High Table and you’re going to face the consequences. Let’s just say that they’re not inclined to give someone a slap on the wrist.

I have one question for those arrogant fools: Do they know who in the world they’re messing with? Do they know the relentless, murderous spirit that’s marked them all for death?

My guess is probably not. Like all enormous corporations, the High Table has gotten a little too big for its britches. It’s not ready for its inevitable downfall.

It’s not ready for John Freaking Wick.

The Baba Yaga.

Really, they should have just left him alone. Let Wick live his life the way he wanted to live it. Let him grieve his wife’s death in peace. Everybody could have moved on and been a whole lot less dead.

But they’re going to find out what happens when you mess with a murderous shadow. He’s coming to get them. He’s going to kill them all.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are unplugging from the simulation and starting their lives in the real world. We watched all of the Matrix films!

This episode was such a doozy that we needed to split it up into two full-length entries. You read that right. This celebration of Keanu Reeves just can’t be contained within an hour!

In this episode, we’re introduced to Neo, né Thomas Anderson. He’s lived his entire life plugged into The Matrix, a computer simulation that keeps humans docile and unaware as their real bodies are harvested for energy.

This is followed up by its action-packed sequel, Reloaded. Neo and Trinity are living new and wonderful lives in the underground human city of Zion, but a familiar and terrifying threat is growing.

Be sure to listen to the conclusion of this marathon episode. We’ll be diving into Revolutions and Resurrections.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are keeping this damn bus from dropping below 50 miles per hour. We watched the 1994 film from Jan de Bont, Speed.

Is there any better way to kick off the new year than by celebrating one of cinema’s finest actors? In fact, he’s more than that, he’s also one of humanity’s greatest living people!

We’re kicking off an entire month of championing a true artist: Keanu Freaking Reeves. This is a moment we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

As police officer Jack Traven, he races against a speedometer to stop a madman from killing a bus full of innocent people. Along the way, he makes flirty googly eyes with passenger Annie.

Will the madman get the best of Jack and explode the bus with everyone on it? Or will he get in over his head by underestimating the power of Keanu? Only one way to find out…

Air Force One: Get Off My Plane!20 Nov 202300:46:16

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are fighting off evil terrorists while on board one of the most famous airplanes in the world. We watched the 1997 film from Wolfgang Petersen, Air Force One.

I know that nothing can ever be 100% secure and safe. That’s just not the world we live in. I’d like it to be, but there are certain trade-offs we all need to make if we want to be active participants in life.

That being said… You’d think that the vetting process for who’s allowed to work for the President of the United States and who’s allowed on their plane would be completely airtight.

In other words, how in the world could the president’s plane—ideally, the most secure vehicle in the world—be hijacked by ruthless terrorists?

Watching this film, it occurred to me that the security process for getting onto a commercial airline flight during the last couple of decades has been more stringent than what was shown in this film.

But, as always, the terrorists didn’t count on the unstoppable force that would spell their certain doom: Harrison Freaking Ford.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are landing this damn space shuttle on the moon even if it kills us! We watched the 1982 film from Ken Finkleman, Airplane II: The Sequel.

Do you ever get a feeling of extreme déjà vu while you’re watching a movie? The sort of feeling where you could swear you’ve seen this exact thing before, but maybe with a few slight changes?

It’s like the black cat crossing Neo’s path a couple times in The Matrix. Something is wonky in the world, but you’re not sure what it means.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to get home to our freaking families, for crying out loud! We watched the 1997 movie from Simon West, Con Air.

Don’t you just hate it when you’re finally released from a lengthy stint in prison, you just want to get home to the child you’ve never seen before, and the transport plane you’re on is hijacked by a bunch of violent convicts?

If I had a nickel for every time that happened. I’d be a Scrooge McDuck over here.

If there’s anyone in the world who could dive headlong into that terrible situation and survive it, that would be one of the finest actors of any generation: Nicolas Freaking Cage.

This may not be peak Cage, but it’s pretty dang close to the madness that will come. It may be peak Malkovich, though. What a surprising madman that guy is!

Don’t Worry Darling: Digital Roofie23 Oct 202301:00:00

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are sure as hell not engaging in any of the gross stuff shown in this movie. We watched the 2022 film from Olivia Wilde, Don’t Worry Darling.

It’s a movie like this that makes a person think that maybe all the technological advances we’ve experienced over the last couple decades were maybe a mistake. I love the medical advances, but everything else feels like it could be too much.

I sure as hell know that Alice in this film would probably agree. More to the point, she would probably also rightly insist that Jack had it coming. Let’s just say, no one’s going to be feeling bad over what happens to the men in this film.

Enjoy this fantastic listener-suggested film—thanks a bunch, 1833daddysdeadwhorses!—and the deep conversation it inspired!

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension: It’s Bigbooté!26 Jan 202600:30:07

Send us Fan Mail

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are trying to stop a mad scientist from destroying all that we hold dear. We watched the 1984 film from W.D. Richter, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

A curious thing happens while you’re watching this movie (at least it did to us): you’ll be thrilled, you’ll be delighted, you’ll be puzzled, but you probably won’t remember much of it the following day.

Why yes, that does mean it’s our B-movie episode of the month. And what a month it’s been—happy birthday, Steven! We’ll happily travel across all dimensions with you, even the eighth one.

The Exorcist: Believer: Seriously, Christ Compels You16 Oct 202300:42:38

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are becoming regular demon hunters these days. We watched the 2023 film from David Gordon Green, The Exorcist: Believer.

You know what they say, If one demonic child possession is good, then two has got to be 100% better. That’s what they say, right? Is it just me?

In a direct sequel to the horror classic, The Exorcist, this film ups the ante. Two young girls have been taken over and it’s up to their families and neighborhood friends to save their souls.

Enjoy this creepy episode and, seriously, there’s no need for communing with the dead.

The Exorcist: The Power of Christ Compels You!13 Oct 202300:42:42

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are in a holy and relentless fight for their very souls. We watched the 1973 film from William Friedkin, The Exorcist.

All it takes is one measly possession to completely ruin someone’s day. That’s exactly what happened to young Regan and her doting single mother. You’re living your life and then POW! Suddenly, you’re a prisoner in your own body.

Surely in the pantheon of all-time great horror film, The Exorcist does a great job of living up to its legend. It’s a brooding and tense couple hours. It also features some of the best performances you’re likely to witness.

Enjoy this spooky episode and keep an eye out for any errant pea soup!

Smile: Say Cheese and Die!09 Oct 202300:46:32

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to get people to believe that there’s something after us, damn it! We watched the 2022 film from Parker Finn, Smile.

Once you witness its horror, it’s stuck with you… forever and ever. Unfortunately, that “forever and ever” is only something like a week at most, but yeah, it’s sticking around to torment you.

Double unfortunately, the “it” in that previous paragraph isn’t something like a delicious bowl of ice cream. No, it’s a repressed horror from the depths of your mind. It’s reliving trauma over and over.

It’s also a troubling concept for a film, with an ending that some (including us) may justifiably call irresponsible. It’s a rare film—perfect for this Halloween season, but also a contentious watch.

Continue this month of spooky episodes with some popcorn in your lap, hopefully all of the lights on in your home, and a big ol’ smile stitched across your face.
