In this Podcast some VERY important information is delivered that will likely surprise you about trapping. Is trapping really necessary? Some say that trapping is actually important to the survival of wildlife in Montana and other states, is that really true? Is trapping really used for wildlife management and research? Did you know that trappers come from all walks of life and are a huge help to farmers and ranchers? Did you know that trapping is used to help control disease? Really? Why are environmental organizations and others always suing to try to stop trapping? This Podcast will tell you the answers to those questions and the answers just might shock you! The Captain and Downrigger spent some fascinating time with Cindy Benson and Barry Hansen of Mack Days and boy did they learn a lot! They learned about a very special and rare fish to the Salish Kootenai Tribe that, thanks to the tournament and those that compete in it, is making comeback! You will also hear about a few fish that are lurking in the depths of Flathead Lake that are worth up to $10,000 if you catch them!! Yeah we told you this was unique. How is it that a fishing tournament could restore a legendary fish to an even more legendary lake? How could a fish pay you that kind of money? Buying a new boat is a big decision and one you want to get right. In this episode we begin our series on how to find the right boat for you. Whether it is about getting a boat just for fishing or one that the whole family is going to use. On this episode of The Montana Outdoor Podcast, we get into the spirit of Valentine’s Week by meeting up with Beckie and Don Wilkins, a couple that truly loves each other and Montana's Outdoors. What a fun time we had with these two. They are based out of Glasgow, MT and both drive for UPS in Northeast Montana. When you don't see them out on their routes delivering packages, chances are you will see them out fishing or hunting together. 

Beckie and Don were kind enough to share some advice about fishing on Fort Peck for Lake Trout and King Salmon as well as well as how to use the love of Montana's Outdoors to keep a marriage happy and full of life. They also shared a great story about their first date together over 9 years ago out on a riverbank fishing for Catfish. Are you wondering which one is the better fisherman? On this Episode of the The Montana Outdoor Podcast you will learn about ice fishing on two of Montana's best Walleye fishing reservoirs, Nelson Reservoir and Fresno Reservoir. These two Reservoirs are located in Northern Montana on what most Montanans call the Hi-Line. They call it Montana's Hi-Line since it's the northernmost route traversing the state from east to west. Your hosts Downrigger Dale and The Captain will talk to Brian Olson, one of the most knowledgeable Walleye fishermen in all of Montana. In fact Brian has won one of the most prestigious Walleye fishing tournaments in the world, The Montana Governor's Cup! Brian will give you information on where the best ice fishing spots are on these reservoirs as well as what bait to use and many other valuable Walleye fishing techniques. Plus he will talk about how to fish Nelson and Fresno Reservoir when the ice thaws off the water in early spring.
