We're off to Hell on MonoRants @The Movies this week with 1997's Event Horizon. Another Cult classic, this Sci-Fi Horror is one of Paul WS Anderson's best offerings and we absolutely love it. So get ready to blast off (nothing blasts off in this film) with a rant about how well this film has aged, why Miller is the best damn space captain, stupid space engineers, and why smoking on a rescue mission with a limited supply of oxygen is maybe a bad thing.

We finally made it. We're at the end of the Twilight Saga with 2012's Breaking Dawn Part 2 and it wasn't quite as bad as Mono expected. It's another solo Superman outing this week with the beautifully animated and charmingly different but familiar "All Star Superman". It's our first DC sequel this week with 2010's follow up to Public Enemies, "Superman/Batman Apocalypse". We get to see DC's Holy Trinity being wholly dickish in a rant about conversations that SHOULD have happened, suburban invasions, Barda banging Bats, a bonus final fight and being split over Darkseid (casting and pronunciation!)

Batman is back again for a solo movie, but that won't stop him from bringing some of the Bat Family along in 2010's "Batman: Under the Red Hood". It's a film both of us can't praise highly enough in this rant about wild comic backstories, meaningful flashbacks, great casting, greater acting & the greatest Joker combining to create THE best Batman scene ever on film... and The Importance of Being Alfred.

Another week, another Justice League member and this time it's Hal Jordan's turn in 2009's "Green Lantern: First Flight". We're trying something (barely) different this week and recommending a TV show you may not have seen. We've brought in some help in the form of non-podcaster and old old friend to us both, Tadhg, to cover the BBC's adaption of Mervyn Peake's seminal fantasy of manners novel, Gormenghast. We take a look at our first sequel this week and it's maybe sorta kinda possibly not so great. But we always try and focus on the good here at MonoRants, and there definitely is some in 2007's "Alien Vs Predator: Requiem". It's another new film for Mono because this week we're looking at Michael Bay's much maligned but actually pretty damn good Sci-Fi action blockbuster "The Island". It's surprisingly quite subtle (in places) and as deep as you need it to be, but still with plenty of that Michael Bay flair. We want to Play a game this week on MonoRants. But there are rules. Very ill defined rules and equally shady motivation in 2004's escape room gore fest, "Saw". We mostly love it, but we have some issues. It's John Carpenters first turn here on MonoRants and we haven't gone for any of the big ones. Instead we're looking at the gore filled horror-western that is 1998's Vampires. Mono loves it, Ciara thinks it's a different film and both can't get over how badly poor Katrina is treated.
