| 92: Moon (2009) | 29 Sep 2024 | 00:45:59 | |
It's Sam Rockwell's first (and second) appearance on the podcast this week as he carries this film all by himselves. It's all clones and evil corporations with 2009's Moon and a rant about getting more with every rewatch, Good Guy Gerty, menacing rescue thugs, crappy IMDb reviews, loving miniatures and who the best deep space insanity avoidance companion is. | 91: Death Becomes Her (1992) | 23 Sep 2024 | 00:50:51
We revisit a favourite film from both our childhoods this week with 1992's surprisingly appropriate for kids "Death Becomes Her". So get ready to be forever young with this rant about an almost hidden Fabio, fantastic performances all round, pushing a good gag too far, SFX that can (mostly) hold its head high, Paul Rudd drinking the potion IRL and Mono discovering new and unexpected... feelings for Meryl Streep. | 82: Children of Men (2006) | 28 Apr 2024 | 01:25:21
We're heading to the far off future of 2027 this week with the painfully realistic 2006 classic "Children of Men". So get your Strawberry Cough and join us for a rant about fancy camerawork, subtle worldbuilding, an underrated stoner scene, being both mean and nice to Britain, giving every death weight (except Patric's) and saving all the art for no-one. | 5. Event Horizon (1997) | 21 Feb 2022 | 01:08:43
We're off to Hell on MonoRants @The Movies this week with 1997's Event Horizon. Another Cult classic, this Sci-Fi Horror is one of Paul WS Anderson's best offerings and we absolutely love it. So get ready to blast off (nothing blasts off in this film) with a rant about how well this film has aged, why Miller is the best damn space captain, stupid space engineers, and why smoking on a rescue mission with a limited supply of oxygen is maybe a bad thing. | 4. Bunraku (2010) | 14 Feb 2022 | 00:57:15
We're calling out the critics on this weeks MonoRants @The Movies, chatting about the visual feast that is 2010's Bunraku. It may have bombed on release, but we love this quirky yet stylish samurai/cowboy movie. So saddle up (there's no horses in this film) for a non-spoiler rant about why professional critics can suck it, killing your own soldiers, and why, in a world of swords, the man who chucks an axe is king. Find us on Twitter @rantsmono or send your own rants to monorantspodcast@gmail.com
| 3. Ravenous (1999) | 07 Feb 2022 | 00:58:48 | |
In this weeks MonoRants @The Movies we're getting lewd and crude with two cannibal dudes in 1999's Ravenous starring Robert Carlyle and Guy Pearse. We're longtime fans of this darkly comedic horror, but that didn't stop us from ranting about weird music choices, the Colorado Cannibal, and a extremely nsfw "If you had to". But hey, at least we're non spoiler. Complaints can be made and ignored on Twitter @rantsmono or to monorantspodcast@gmail.com
| 2. Midnight Meat Train (2008) | 31 Jan 2022 | 00:53:40 | |

We rant all things Midnight Meat Train, one of the best Clive Barker adaptions out there (even if it takes us a while to acknowledge it). Join us for a NON spoiler chat about missing scenes, swapping directors, Clive Barkers shameless self promotion, and the insanity inducing ending. Welcome to the first MonoRants @The Movies. We are taking a break from The Boys to bring you a NON Spoiler chat (mostly) about some of our favourite films. We are kicking things off with 2006's sci-fi/vampire/fantasy/thriller/kitchen sink of a film "Perfect Creature". From New Zealand writer/director Glenn Stanndring, this film is an exercise in world building and efficiency. Come see why we still love to talk about this film 16 years on. | 80: Equilibrium (2002) | 15 Apr 2024 | 01:20:10
After six weeks of moody vampires we're done with emotions and so is this weeks film. It's all about the gun kata and emotionless murder with 2002's "Equilibrium". So be sure to take your interval before you join us for a rant about getting more than we expected, kinda wasting the clerics, witches, matriarchs and religious imagery, a movie that develops with the antagonists emotions, a society bound to stagnate and where Prozium comes from. | 79: Interview With The Vampire (1994) | 08 Apr 2024 | 00:52:35

Let us give you the choice we never had, and join us for a rant about a film that wastes nothing, falling in love with vampire movies, narrating the Spanish edition, the devil freeing slaves and Louis being objectively worse than Edward. | 78: Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012) | 01 Apr 2024 | 01:02:19
We finally made it. We're at the end of the Twilight Saga with 2012's Breaking Dawn Part 2 and it wasn't quite as bad as Mono expected. So dive into the world of sparkly vampires with us one last time for a rant about not giving character deaths any weight, Emmett being a horn dog, poor confused Charlie, Alice's obvious note, Bella being the superawesomebestvampireever and J Jenks being the real villain of the series.

| 76: Twilight: Eclipse (2010) | 18 Mar 2024 | 01:24:04 | |
We're on to the third film in the Twilight Saga this week with 2010's "Eclipse". It's the halfway point in the series but that's small comfort to Mono. So help him out and join us for a rant about a more blockbuster feel, the stupidity of the 3rd wife, Jacobs increasingly bad choices, waxing philosophical about souls, saying good riddance to Victoria and Mono finding common ground with Edward. | 75: Twilight: New Moon (2009) | 10 Mar 2024 | 01:18:02

So stare out a window for three months and join us for a rant about things getting marginally better, sleep screaming, Edward's terrible plan, Bella forgetting normal human abilities, Martin Sheen bringing a bit of class to the joint and Mono jumping on and quickly falling off Team Jacob. School's back from summer and Mono wanted to revisit his teen years with a high school alien invasion film that Ciara had never seen. This week we're looking at 1998's ridiculously fun Sci-Fi/Horror "The Faculty" and ranting about an insane school with even more insane staff, the joy of Robert Patrick running, tropey teens with a twist, a packed cast list, great pacing and our apparent shared phobia of automatically closing bleachers. It's a new year but we're going back to one of our favorite directors with Neil Marshalls second film; The Descent. We kinda forgot how good it was but remember pretty quickly in this rant about the base jumping opportunities in Galway, ignoring the basics of caving safety, which ending is better, Ciara remembering her own caving adventures and Mono thinking he can take on the crawlers. | Bonus DCUAOM Rant | 11 Aug 2023 | 00:39:50

We hope you're all ears for this rant about fun psycho Dolph, a much darker original cut, minimal effort sci-fi jargon, an ass-off between JCVD and Mark Dacascos, wondering whether the Universal soldiers are cyborgs or zombies and the importance of self preservation instincts. And Truck. Find us on Twitter: @rantsmono, Instagram: MonoRants_The_Boys or send your own rants to monorantspodcast@gmail.com
| Recommends... Gormenghast with Tadhg | 03 Jul 2023 | 01:04:13 | |
We're trying something (barely) different this week and recommending a TV show you may not have seen. We've brought in some help in the form of non-podcaster and old old friend to us both, Tadhg, to cover the BBC's adaption of Mervyn Peake's seminal fantasy of manners novel, Gormenghast. So escape the kitchens for this rant about absurd yet fantastic characters, a seriously impressive cast, an incredibly rich world from no place or time, striking the right balance with tone, ragging on The Predator and Mono hating falsettos. Put a squirt of brown sauce in your cuppa and settle in for a rant about the Dublin-iest dialogue, the general lack of respect for the police, little b*stard kids, what a ronnie is and other Irish slang, Oscar the actually nice guy and the Real great leveller in Ireland: making false insurance claims against Dublin Bus. But we always try and focus on the good here at MonoRants, and there definitely is some in 2007's "Alien Vs Predator: Requiem". So grab some night vision goggle (they'll be about as much use for podcast listening as they were in the film) and join us for a rant about... unfulfilled trilogy hopes, ALL the 'Starga-natural' actors, everyone getting it, Xenomorph biology lessons, a Moot Predator and having too many characters but still wondering "What happened to the rest of the townsfolk?" | 57: The Island (2005) | 05 Jun 2023 | 01:25:48
It's another new film for Mono because this week we're looking at Michael Bay's much maligned but actually pretty damn good Sci-Fi action blockbuster "The Island". It's surprisingly quite subtle (in places) and as deep as you need it to be, but still with plenty of that Michael Bay flair. Watch your proximity and join us as we rant in depth about the evil corporations we love so much, excellent early world building, bad accents Vs good acting, magical pregnancies, Prince Alberts and a movie character finally doing The Thing!!!. | 56: Saw (2004) | 30 May 2023 | 00:56:16
We want to Play a game this week on MonoRants. But there are rules. Very ill defined rules and equally shady motivation in 2004's escape room gore fest, "Saw". We mostly love it, but we have some issues. Find out what as you hack your way into this rant about excellent foreshadowing, poor choice in victims, which victim has it worst, the limitations of cancer patients in undertaking complex mechanical construction projects, getting your partner killed and one inevitably very awkward post movie corridor encounter. | 55: Punisher War Zone (2008) with Joe from Hallmark of Greatness | 21 May 2023 | 01:23:11
It's time for the greatest, goriest, gunniest superhero film of them all, and to help we've brought a man who likes two things; ultraviolence and tunnocks teacakes. It's 2008's "Punisher War Zone" and Joe from the Hallmark of Greatness podcast. So flip and then explode into this rant of many, many tangents like... bad accents, bugging confessionals, not faffing about with long tragic flashbacks, Punisher taking on Judge Dredd and then John Wick, awesomely comic violence and Frank's one man gun economy. You can find Joe on both Hallmark of Greatness & Dammit Vince Podcasts and on twitter @HallmarkofGreat & @DammitVincepod Find us on Twitter @rantsmono or send your own rants to monorantspodcast@gmail.com

| 54: John Carpenter's Vampires (1998) | 15 May 2023 | 00:42:34 | |
It's John Carpenters first turn here on MonoRants and we haven't gone for any of the big ones. Instead we're looking at the gore filled horror-western that is 1998's Vampires. Mono loves it, Ciara thinks it's a different film and both can't get over how badly poor Katrina is treated. So lather up and shave your ass for this rant about the serious mistreatment of women depicted (honestly not a joke, its bad), punching head wounds, moaning about motels, planning a better vampire hunt than the professionals, awesome winch deaths, terribly cauterized wounds, dick shots and the lesser spotted Baldwin.
