Season 6: Episode 40 - Should you get a Vasectomy?
A man who has had a vasectomy still makes semen and is able to ejaculate. But the semen doesn't contain sperm. The testosterone level and all other male sex traits stays the same. For most men, the ability to have an erection is unchanged.
How common are vasectomies? About 50 million men have had a vasectomy — approximately 5% of all married men of reproductive age. More than 500,000 men elect to have vasectomies every year in the U.S.
Vasectomy is a form of male birth control that cuts the supply of sperm to your semen. It's done by cutting and sealing the tubes that carry sperm. Vasectomy has a low risk of problems and can usually be performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.
Overall, vasectomies are very safe, and most people don’t have any problems. But all medical procedures have some possible risks. The most common risk with a vasectomy is infection, but those are usually minor and treatable with antibiotics. You may also have some pain, bleeding, bruising, or swelling after the procedure. Read more about vasectomy safety.
While some health insurance plans may cover a vasectomy, the procedure is not considered an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act.
A vasectomy typically costs about $1,000 out of pocket but may be a better bargain than other forms of birth control for you or your partner.

With so much happening in the media lately with Kyrie Irving and Kanye West and others we thought it was important to do an episode about the media. Specifically literacy, my wife gave me this idea and I started thinking about how powerful of a topic this could be.
The purpose of this episode is to really get into Kyrie or Kanye per se but to focus on the outlets that have made us know them in the first place. How and why are we even aware of them?
To find out if we are media literate or not? Are our children media literate? And who cares right? If we are not media literate does it matter since we spend so much time consuming media?

Are we currently in a recession? Are you thriving or just surviving?
A recession can be defined as a sustained period of weak or negative growth in real GDP (output) that is accompanied by a significant rise in the unemployment rate.
Gross domestic product is a monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced and sold in a specific time period by countries. Due to its complex and subjective nature this measure is often revised before being considered a reliable indicator.
During a recession, unemployment rates go up because companies start cutting their workforce in order to handle the challenges of decreased spending from consumers. The employment market turns bleak — there's less hiring, more layoffs and fewer financial incentives offered to current employees, like bonuses and raises.

** Discrimination based on skin or hair color, also known as colorism, or shadeism, is a form of prejudice and/or discrimination in which people who share similar ethnic traits or perceived race are treated differently based on the social implications that come with the cultural meanings that are attached to skin color.
** European imperialists are often blamed for bringing the "lighter skin is righter" mentality to indigenes of colonized lands in Africa and Asia. Critics of this mental colonization don't always acknowledge in the same breath that many North African and Asian cultures had placed a premium on light skin PRIOR to European exposure. Indian folk songs praised the beautiful woman who has "the color of butter" (Indian butter is white, not yellow). Pre-colonial Indonesian women used plant-based skin treatments to make their complexion pale. “Color Struck” is an old saying among African-Americans that refers to individuals who believe that a lighter complexion and European features represent the epitome of beauty and desirability. Past research indicates that marriage is less common among darker skin women (Bodenhorn 2006). In particular, Hamilton et al. (2009), in a study of 329 young black women found that light skin tone was associated with approximately a 15 % greater probability of marriage.
Researchers have examined colorism—or the preference for lighter skin over darker skin—primarily as it pertained to women, but little research existed regarding men. Skin color is one device for assigning people to a racial category. Race is the social meaning attributed to that category. It is a set of beliefs or assumptions about individuals falling within a particular racial group.

DO NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS STILL MAKE SENSE FOR BLACK PEOPLE?
We wanted to discuss this today because not for profits—organizations weren’t geared toward profit but trying to improve life for a certain group of people and they provided the framework for Eric McLoyd (E-Money) to start helping people launch for-profit organizations.
Some of the questions we will ask during this conversation are:
What really goes into starting a non-profit?
Should black people be doing not for profits? In regards to wealth (foundation for a tax write-off?)
Are non-profits important for our culture?
What are some of not so pleasant experiences you’ve had in non-profits?
What are some wins you have had in the not-for-profit space?

In this episode, we dig into the conversation around being actively engaged in politics.
We explore the following with our amazing guests, Alani Brown and Maze Jackson
WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF POLITICS?
WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF POLITICS? (KNOWING AND COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR LEGISLATORS, ATTEND TOWN HALL MEETINGS, ATTEND CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS, PARTICIPATE ON THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD, MOBILIZE PEOPLE TO SUPPORT A CAUSE, VOLUNTEER, ATTEND RALLIES, RUN FOR POLITICAL OFFICE
DOES THE TALKING HEAD STUFF ON TELEVISION HELP AT ALL? (SUPPOSE THAT’S A FORM OF BEING POLITICAL)
WHAT’S AT RISK BY NOT GOING INTO POLITICS? OR ARE WE ALL INVOLVED SOMEHOW IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS?
WHO IS MOST LIKELY TO ENGAGE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS (THOSE WHO FEEL THREATENED, WANT TO CHANGE POLICY IN A POSITION THEY FAVOR?)

One group of Gen-Xers and millennials, moreover, seems to have discovered a new secret to sexual happiness. Among heterosexual couples married since the early 1990s, those reporting the highest marital satisfaction — and the most sex — are couples who share housework and child care. In fact, these egalitarian couples are the only couples having more sex than their counterparts in the past.

Has anyone ever asked you why you want to get married? We know it's an aspiration for many, especially women. But in this episode, we will get into the actual reason people want to tie the knot. Is it because of Love, your family's influence, friends, what is it, really?
The term African American is loaded. Some people like the term and others despise it. One thing that we can agree on is if you are Black and born in this country it is definitely an experience. We will be talking about what that experience means and how it compares to blackness in other parts of the world.
Today we are going to dissect this conversation on High-Value men. Shout out to my younger brother for making me aware of Kevin Samuels's video.
Eric watched him on Joe Budden’s podcast. What Eric learned is this conversation is not about are you a good person, a good father, a nice guy...none of that. It is purely about your market value--how the world values you as it relates to business, projects, social standing--what is a moment of your time worth, etc.
Eric boiled this down to 10 points--we encourage the culture to keep having this conversation consider our list but come up with your own.

MSG’s host Eric went to a Howard vs Northwestern football game on Sunday. He had the audacity to wear his Kellogg Northwestern business school cap. In so many words, he was told by his family that he was not Pro-Black. Was his family right?

The term power couple gets thrown around a lot, I felt like it was important to truly define it, provide a roadmap, and a test if you will to see if a couple is REALLY a power couple.
A power couple is a couple who both compliments each other’s strengths and supports each other’s individuality. They are considered role models when it comes to relationships, business, and life. They are seen as a unit—a package deal.
Traits of power couples:
1-Prioritize Teamwork (work together well)
2-Individually Strong
3-Mutually Protective (each other’s biggest fan and it shows)
4-Clearly communicate around successes (openly negotiate who will be more successful at any given time)
5-You speak each other’s love languages
6-Publicly viewed as successful
7-Have receipts to back up your success

Upon joining Jackson State in 2020, Sanders, 55, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and two-time Super Bowl winner, essentially became a champion of football at historically Black colleges and universities. He promoted the virtues of the schools, lured top recruits away from predominantly white institutions, sparked a surge of donations and sponsorships to the underfunded Jackson State, increased national exposure for HBCUs and put up his own money to renovate the school’s Walter Payton Center.
