What Real Learning Looks Like: A Homeschool Mom's Framework After 36 Years08 Jun 202500:26:11

In today’s episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on what “real” learning looks like after 36 years of homeschooling my 15 children. We’ve journeyed through the philosophies of Charlotte Mason, Ruth Beechick, Raymond Moore, John Holt, and more—but now it’s time to ask: How do we put all of this into practice?

I’ll walk you through a 30,000-foot view of a four-part framework that changed everything for our family:

  1. A child’s relationship with God and man
  2. Tools for learning (the basics done well)
  3. Content (truth-driven and interest-based)
  4. Practical skills (the stuff of real life)

We’ll also talk about why mimicking public education leads to burnout, how to stay focused in a sea of choices, and how to homeschool with purpose, not just curriculum.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been at this a while, this episode will help you reset and refocus on what really matters. Let’s do this—together.

Why I Love Babies II Mom of 15 Shares Her Story13 Jan 202500:11:06

I was not raised to become a mother. I was raised to see babies as a threat and to deny my maternal instincts.

Can you relate? In this podcast we will talk about the cost of denying one's motherliness, and the blessings of pursuing it.

Does Having Babies Make Logical Sense?30 Dec 202400:26:24

As a mom of 15, whenever I announced the births of our children as a product of our trust in God, someone would inevitably exclaim, "But God gave you a brain, too, so why don't you use it?" The implication was that having babies is not logical.

But is it logical to have babies? I think so, and in this video I will give some reasons why preventing babies is harmful, both to individuals and to the society at large, while having babies benefits everyone.

Receive a Child, Receive Jesus II Babies Unit Study for Mommies18 Dec 202400:18:18

We have been trained to see everything from a negative side-view. Governments, money, morality, social issues, standard of living.

I believe that thinking and speaking with a dark foreboding expectation of the future sets things in motion so that our decisions begin creating the very things we say we dread. Our expectation of the future is causing us to build that future.

However, the opposite is also true. If we can turn our gaze on Jesus, our expectations can be adjusted so they are positive.

Hope of the future sets the ball rolling. When we believe everything is working for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purposes, our individual decisions begin to look different. We are falling into plans for a hopeful future, and, in doing so we are helping to create that future as an optimistic one.

Humans Are Earth's Greatest Resource II God Wants More People30 Nov 202400:40:06

"The material conditions of life will continue to get better for most people in most countries most of the time, indefinitely. Within a century or two, all nations and most of humanity will be at or above today’s Western living standards. I also speculate, however, that many people will continue to think and say that the conditions of life are getting worse." This is a quote by Julian Simon, an economist who fought against the lie of overpopulation. In his understanding, human beings are NOT a cancerous blight, but our greatest natural resource!

Elon Musk God This Right II We Need More Babies II New Commonplace Book No. 211 Nov 202400:30:27

There is no suggestion here that family or children (especially lots of children) will fulfill all dreams and solve all societal ills. I know first-hand that children are messy, smelly, and disruptive. They cost a lot, even if you cook from scratch and shop at Goodwill. Too often they take all of your loving care and throw it back in your face as a "thank you."

But there is more. Much, much more. There is SO much more, in fact, that it would take a million podcasts to tell you about the exponential benefits of doing things God's way.

Listen in to find out just some of them.

Also, the second Commonplace Book has been published on Amazon.com and is also available for free on the blog post at the web address below:

Homeschoolers Vote27 Oct 202400:19:20

The modern homeschooling movement has been unabashedly political from its inception. This election cycle should be no exception--we explore some Biblically-based reasons in this video. I searched but could not find a good article about the negative intentions for the Common School movement--the search engine I used could only speak of it in glowing terms. So, I found a page from an important education site (learninfreedom.org) that gives reference to a number of books which you may find interesting. Here it is: https://learninfreedom.org/school_sta...

The Missing Element in Classical Education: Rediscovering the Delight of Heart-Led Learning01 Jun 202500:18:52

Are you convinced classical education is good—but still feel something’s missing?

After homeschooling 15 children over 36 years, I’ve discovered a deeper, richer way of learning—one that engages not just the mind, but the heart. In today’s video, I explore the concept of “heart-thinking,” drawn from Scripture, science, and real-life moments that can only happen at home.

We’ll talk about:

  • Why true learning involves more than just intellect
  • What the Bible says about “delight” and how it relates to education
  • How even the most reluctant learner can be transformed by joy
  • Why some of the most powerful teaching happens in everyday moments—kneading bread, reading aloud, or walking through the woods

I’ll also share two of my favorite homeschooling books that beautifully express this philosophy.

If you’ve been looking for a higher path in home education—one rooted in joy, relationship, and God’s design—you’ll find encouragement and practical insight here.

Don't Make Charlotte Mason Cry22 Sep 202400:13:40

Enhancing Homeschooling With Autodidacting05 Aug 202400:28:53

Homeschool Cheating for Holistic Learning25 Jun 202400:21:04

Now, we all know that, no matter how ethereal our intentions may be, we live in a real world with real people and real agendas which attempt to contradict God's plans on almost every plain. Caesar never stops at a little excising, he takes a little here, a little there, and he continues to grab until he swallows the whole.

We all experience excising, some more than others. This is why we must learn and train our children to understand just where Caesar's boundaries are, and when he grabs for more than his due we can cheat.

This is not the cheating of corruption. It is not stealing from others or living in lies. It is keeping ourselves from living lies. It is using the system for its original intentions, which have been buried beneath the behemoth stack of bureaucratic eduspeak and intellitalk.

It's allowing our children to actually THINK and learn, but making it look like they are only parroting and shuffling along in line like good little drones.

Notebooking Questions Answered19 May 202400:26:47

Recently we have been delving deeply into the idea of notebooking as a homeschooling method of learning. This is partly because of our current project of creating some "notebooking books" that we are calling Commonplace Books. (We held a contest on the Mom Delights YouTube community and it was so much fun!).

Anyways, as I have been sharing so much on the subject, a number of questions arose from our audience. I thought it would be a good idea to take some time and answer as many of them as I could.

Why I Would Not Use Classical Education | A Veteran Homeschool Mom’s Take12 May 202500:22:32

Classical Education is being praised by top conservatives, but after 36 years homeschooling my 15 children, I’ve learned it’s not the answer—and may even be harmful. In this video, I explain why I reject it, share historical insights, and offer practical, Christ-centered alternatives like Charlotte Mason, the Moore Formula, and Unschooling. All About the McGuffey Readers10 Mar 202400:25:14

When I discovered the McGuffey Readers I was on the verge of burn out from trying to use the Charlotte Mason method with seven or more children at one time. It was difficult to find appropriate passages of poetry and prose for everyone on his or her particular level. It was even more difficult trying to keep track of their work when it was done. McGuffey gave me a break. Included in each reader was a collection of the greatest literature, both prose and poetry, of the English language. No more searching, no more having to compile everything myself and then watch my hard work disintegrate before my eyes as my children and I both lost track.

How to Be a Pretty Mommy25 Feb 202400:35:25

Recently a few of my viewers on YouTube asked if I would address the aesthetics side of motherhood. They actually accused me of looking “put together.” Actually, I’ve always been the kind of girlie-girl that is also creatively distracted. This means I like pretty things in the abstract, and I often start the day with the best of intentions, but by the end of the day I become forgetful of my appearance and end up looking like a hot mess!

Still, I try to follow certain practices so I at least begin with beauty. This is what we will be discussing (without judgement or pressure) in this podcast.
