Most wellness conversations focus on things like diet, exercise, supplements, and self-care routines. But one of the biggest influences on our wellbeing is something we rarely talk about in wellness spaces: Our homes. The spaces we wake up in each morning. The routines we move through every day. The emotional atmosphere within our walls. In this episode, we explore the eight dimensions of wellness and how each one shows up within our homes and the work of homemaking. Because homemaking isn’t just about keeping up with chores or decorating beautifully. It’s about creating an environment that supports the wellbeing of the people who live there, including you. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
In this episode, we explore:
When we begin to see our homes through the lens of wellbeing, something shifts. Home stops feeling like a long list of responsibilities… and starts becoming a place that supports your health, your relationships, and your sense of peace. Because the environment you live in every day quietly shapes the way life feels inside it. So whether you’re decluttering a room, adjusting your routines, or simply becoming more aware of the atmosphere in your home, this episode will encourage you to see homemaking in a whole new light. In this episode, we’re slowing down the January noise and having a different kind of conversation about fresh starts, overwhelm, and why home can feel so heavy this time of year. January is supposed to feel hopeful, a clean slate filled with motivation, goals, and new energy. But for so many people, it doesn’t feel that way at all. It feels heavy, exhausting, and quietly overwhelming. Today, we’re exploring why that heaviness makes sense, especially after a season of carrying so much, and why the answer isn’t reinventing yourself, fixing your home, or trying harder. This episode is an invitation to step out of pressure and into a softer, more intentional reset. One that begins within. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:

You need fewer expectations, clearer direction, and support that honors where you are right now. Take a deep breath. Start where you are. And remember. you don’t have to do this alone. | 004 - Home from the Heart: Self-Love & Compassion in Home Creation | 22 Jan 2024 | 00:29:01
Today, I talk about Self-Love and Self-Compassion in home creation. This is the second lesson in Mindset & Motivation, which is the first foundation in the Holistic Home framework. In this episode, we look at what self love and self compassion really are, why they are important and how they contribute to our mindset and motivation in home creation. Here’s a recap: 1) Self-love and Self-compassion are foundational. The relationship that we have with self really is the most important relationship we have and forms the foundation for all other relationships. 2) Gaining an awareness of our thoughts and creating a positive and compassionate relationship with ourselves significantly shapes our homes and our experiences in home creation. 3) Cultivating self-love and self-compassion helps understand our needs, desires, and preferences for home, and they allow us to overcome limiting beliefs and make intentional decisions about home. And this leads us to create homes the align with who we really are and what we really want. 4) Incorporating self-love, self-compassion and self-care into our homemaking allows us to create a home that really prioritizes our full humanity – our mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social well-being. 5) We dive into Self-Love and Self-Compassion further in the First Foundation of Home: Mindset & Motivation, which within the Holistic Home framework.

| 093 - The Year You Stop Doing It All Alone: A Slower, More Supported Way to Start the New Year | 02 Jan 2026 | 00:29:02 | |
In this episode, we’re welcoming the New Year in a different way, slower, softer, and with far less pressure to rush into goals and resolutions. January often arrives with loud expectations: new year, new you, big plans, fresh starts. But for many of us, especially after a long and full holiday season, the truth is we’re tired. Still recovering. Still integrating what the past year held. Today’s episode is an honest reflection on post-holiday exhaustion, winter energy, and why the beginning of the year doesn’t have to be about hustle or doing more. Instead, we’re exploring what it might look like to rest, receive support, and finally stop doing it all alone. I’m sharing personal reflections on my own relationship with the holidays and how cyclical living has reshaped the way I approach the New Year. We’ll also talk about my Word of the Year and how learning to receive support has led me to more intentionally ask for help, community, and shared leadership. This episode is also an invitation to reimagine homemaking as meaningful leadership and to question the belief that women running households are meant to do everything by themselves. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by New Year pressure or quietly longing for more support at home, this episode is a reminder that you don’t have to do it all alone. Maybe this is the year you take it slower. Maybe this is the year you ask for help. Maybe this is the year you let yourself be supported. And that might change everything. In this episode, we’re slowing things down and leaning into rest, especially in the quiet, blurry in-between week between Christmas and New Year’s. That strange stretch of time when routines are off, days blend together, and even though life feels slower… we don’t always feel rested. This episode is an invitation to gently question why rest can feel so hard, even when we finally stop, and to consider what rest actually looks like in winter, when energy is naturally lower and the world invites us to soften rather than hustle. We’re talking about rest through cyclical living, letting go of the pressure to rush into the new year, and exploring the different types of rest our bodies, minds, and hearts may be craving right now. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:

Let this episode be an invitation to slow down, listen inward, and enter this season, and the new year, feeling more supported, more grounded, and more at home within yourself. | 102 - Are You Happy at Home? The Psychology of Creating a Happier Home | 06 Mar 2026 | 00:21:38
Are you happy at home? It’s a simple question… but many of us don’t slow down enough to really ask it. When we do, we often start thinking about our physical home, whether it’s clean, how it looks, or whether we feel proud of it. But happiness at home isn’t just about the state of our space. It’s also about how we are living within it. In this episode of Modern Homemaking, we’re exploring the deeper connection between home, happiness, and wellbeing. Drawing on ideas from psychology, environmental influence, and holistic homemaking, we’ll talk about how our homes shape how we think, feel, and move through our daily lives. Because creating a happier home isn’t just about doing more. It’s about alignment. When your mindset, environment, routines, and energy begin working together, home can become one of the most supportive and nourishing places in your life. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: • Felt overwhelmed by your home and wondered why it affects you so deeply • Questioned whether your home is supporting your wellbeing or draining it • Wanted your home to feel calmer, lighter, or more aligned with your life • Suspected that happiness at home is about more than cleaning, organizing, or decorating We’ll explore: • Why the question “Are you happy at home?” matters more than we might think • What psychology teaches us about happiness and wellbeing • How our home environment influences our mood, stress, and energy • Why happiness at home often has less to do with your home, and more to do with how you’re living in it • Small shifts you can make to help your home feel more supportive and aligned Whether you’re navigating overwhelm at home, craving more peace in your space, or simply wanting to feel better in your everyday life, this episode is here to remind you that creating a happier home doesn’t require perfection. Sometimes it starts with simply asking the right question. Are you happy at home? And if the answer isn’t quite yet… small shifts can begin to change how life feels, one step at a time. In this episode, we’re going back to the beginning, to a lightbulb moment that shaped The Common Nest and inspired the framework behind The Holistic Home Method. I’m sharing the story of inspiration and how three simple words, Mindset, Motivation, and Methods helped me see home in a completely new way. At the time, I was trying to create a clear, simple roadmap to help women create happier, healthier homes, spaces that honor our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing in the cultivation of home. But I couldn’t quite find the structure that brought it all together. Then, those three words landed like truth: Mindset. Motivation. Methods. Everything clicked. And from that spark, The Holistic Home Method was born. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
Whether you’re decluttering, redesigning, or simply reimagining how home feels, this conversation will help you see that real transformation starts within. Because when your mindset, motivation, and methods align, your home becomes more than something to manage, it becomes a reflection of who you are and what you truly value. Let’s explore how to bring harmony to the what, why, and how of your home and rediscover the joy of creating home from the inside out. Links & Resources Mentioned in This Episode:

| 082 - Home Starts Within: How Self-Love Transforms Your Space and Relationships. | 17 Oct 2025 | 00:25:52 | |
In this episode, we’re exploring a truth that often gets lost in our culture of constant improvement — that your home doesn’t need fixing; it needs you. Everywhere we turn, we’re surrounded by messages telling us to optimize, organize, and perfect — our routines, our spaces, even ourselves. But what if all this striving for “better” is actually keeping us from feeling at home right now? In today’s conversation, we’ll look at what happens when we shift our focus from fixing our homes to loving them — and how that shift begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. Because home isn’t a project to perfect. It’s a relationship to nurture. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:

Whether your house feels chaotic or your inner world feels cluttered, this episode is a gentle reminder that peace doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from connection. Links & Resources Mentioned in This Episode:

| 101 - Welcome to Modern Homemaking: What It Means and Why I’m Reclaiming Homemaker | 27 Feb 2026 | 00:24:41 | |
In this episode, we’re opening a brand new chapter. After years of avoiding the word homemaking, I’m finally claiming it, and renaming this show Modern Homemaking. This isn’t just a new title. It’s a shift in clarity, courage, and calling. For a long time, I resisted using the words homemaking and homemaker in my messaging. I worried about stereotypes, misunderstandings, and being reduced to something smaller than the work I actually do. But over time, I realized something important: the very word I was avoiding was the one my audience was searching for. Today, I’m sharing why I changed the name of the podcast, what modern homemaking truly means, and why I believe homemaking matters now more than ever. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
Modern homemaking is not about shrinking yourself. It’s not about perfection or silent sacrifice. It’s about leadership inside your home. It’s about understanding how your space shapes your mental health, your relationships, and your daily life. In a world that feels loud and divided, tending to home with intention is powerful, and more important than ever.. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you found this podcast by searching for modern homemaking, I’m so glad you’re here. Together, let’s build happier and healthier homes. Welcome to Modern Homemaking. 💛 Links & Resources Mentioned in This Episode:

| 070 - Overcoming Fear of the Unknown: How Staying Comfortable Holds You Back in Home + Life (Summer Stories) | 22 Aug 2025 | 00:11:20 | |
In this episode of Summer Stories, I’m sharing a short story about something as ordinary as a city road, and how it led me to reflect on the ways we navigate our homes and lives. This week’s story is actually with a friend who resisted driving on a brand-new road near our city. Even though the highway was built to make travel faster and easier, she stuck to her familiar back routes - not because they were better, but because they were well known. That got me thinking: how often do we do the same thing in our homes and lives? How often do we stay comfortable with what’s familiar, even if it keeps us from a path that could be easier, lighter, or more aligned with what we really want? This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
Whether it’s shifting routines, changing patterns, or simply trying a different way of doing things, this story is here to encourage you to take the leap — to step onto the new road, even if it feels a little scary at first. Because sometimes the path you’ve been avoiding turns out to be the one that makes life lighter, simpler, and so much easier. Let’s reflect together on what roads might be waiting for you — and how you can take that first drive toward something new. Let’s Connect! If you loved this episode, I’d love to hear from you! | 069 - What a Grocery Store Meltdown Taught Me About Letting Go and Sharing the Load at Home (Summer Stories) | 15 Aug 2025 | 00:15:54
In this episode, we’re continuing the Summer Stories series — a peek behind the scenes of how I create in my home and on the go. Today’s story is about groceries… but not in the way you might think. It’s a story about letting go of control and discovering what happens when we invite others to share the load — even if it doesn’t look exactly the way we would do it ourselves. From the early days of my marriage to the toddler meltdowns in checkout lines, grocery shopping was “my task” for a long time. But as life got fuller (and busier), I reached a breaking point — and my husband stepped in. That’s when I learned that letting someone help isn’t just about handing over a task… it’s about loosening my grip on how it “should” be done. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
Whether it’s groceries, laundry, or mowing the lawn, this story is here to remind you that sometimes the best gift you can give your home — and yourself — is to let go of control, welcome the help, and trust that “different” can still be good. Let’s trade perfection for partnership and find more ease in the everyday. Let’s Connect! If you loved this episode, I’d love to hear from you! | 068 - You Only Live Once: Making Mindful Choices for Your Health and Home (Summer Stories) | 08 Aug 2025 | 00:10:42
In this episode, we’re continuing the Summer Stories series, a seasonal peek behind the scenes of how I create home, even on the go. Today’s story is about the balance between pleasure and health, and what happens when we reflect on the choices we make in our lives, from sugar to self-care. Our family recently had a doctor's appointment that sparked an interesting conversation about how we live, what we eat, and how we care for ourselves. My daughter’s take on the advice to limit sugar was a thought-provoking reminder that the "you only live once" mentality is often tied to instant gratification and pleasure. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
We’ll explore:
Whether you’re focused on health, pleasure, or both, this story is here to remind you that every choice you make is part of creating the home and life you desire. Sometimes, the choices that nourish you might look different than you expect, but they’re right for you — and they bring you closer to living intentionally. Let’s dive into the conversation and remember: the life you live is made of the small choices you make every day. Let’s make them count. Let’s Connect! In this episode of the Common Nest Podcast, we're continuing with our Summer Stories series — a seasonal peek behind the scenes of how I create home, even on the go. Today's story is about a close call on the road and the valuable lessons it taught me about our energy, our expectations, and our capacity for grace in different seasons. This week, I’m sharing a story about the time we almost ran out of gas while traveling in our trailer. It was day one of our trip, and we were learning just how far we could go with our new set-up. But as we hit a dirt road and realized we weren’t getting the mileage we expected, we found ourselves in the middle of nowhere, hoping we'd make it to the next gas station. Thankfully, we did, and it made me reflect on how often we expect too much from ourselves — especially in seasons of change. This episode is for you if you’ve ever:
