Tuesday Podcast Drop: How to Be Happy04 Nov 202500:28:09

What is happiness, really — and can we learn to be happier? In this week’s conversation, Jo talks to Christina Lenway, a Happiness Educator and author, about the science and practice of happiness. Christina shares how a personal crisis led her to study happiness academically and discover evidence-based ways to create more joy, meaning, and fulfillment in everyday life.

They explore how happiness isn’t a destination but a skill — one we can strengthen through intention, awareness, and daily practice. From “dialing up the good” emotions to using breathwork and gratitude to shift perspective, Christina explains simple, practical tools anyone can use to feel lighter, calmer, and more at peace.

This is an inspiring and grounded look at how midlife can be a time to reclaim happiness on your own terms — not by pretending everything’s fine, but by choosing how you respond, finding purpose, and building emotional resilience.

* Why knowing your values and strengths is key to fulfillment

* Courage, authenticity, and choosing who you want to be — not who life made you

A short solo podcast this week, reflecting on those who raised us and the mothering energy we all need to find within.

About the Midlife and Beyond Podcast.

Like all transitions, midlife can be messy and sad and glorious all at once, leaving many midlife women feeling rather alone and somewhat invisible. But what does this transition we are experiencing lead to?

I'm Jo Blackwell, a photographer, author and coach for women who want more from their lives post 50, and I'm here to remind you that if we manage our health and embrace it, growing older can lead to one of the greatest periods of growth and transformation of our lives.

Pro-age Make-up with Grace Fodor04 Mar 202100:42:28
PRO AGE warrior, beauty expert and STUDIO10 founder, Grace Fodor is on a mission to help every woman to look and feel their most beautiful and confident version of themselves – at ANY age.

Hitting her mid 40s, Grace found herself labelled as ‘middle aged’ and surrounded by negative anti-ageing stereotypes that didn’t reflect how she felt or lived her life. Grace felt that she wanted to celebrate her age, wear it proudly and feel truly confident – after all beauty doesn’t just belong to youth, it is ageless. So many current beauty standards and brands excluding women after a certain age and ostracising the very audience they want to communicate with. And so STUDIO10 was born.

Studio10 is more than skin deep, it’s a movement. Grace is a PRO AGE warrior passionate about challenging the outdated stereotypes, misconceptions and redefining age and beauty. Standing united to create a voice to give women the recognition they deserve and fight against the notions that make them feel invisible, undervalued and unattractive, stamping out ageism once and for all. It’s time to be seen and be heard – PRO AGE not anti age. I

t’s a high-performing, PRO AGE makeup formulated and designed for mature skins and that are super-easy to use. Skincare-hybrids enriched with the best skin loving and anti-pollution ingredients that are cruelty free, paraben free, dermatologically tested and vegan friendly. Hailed as ‘genius’ by India Knight of the Sunday Times, these ‘real -skin’ essentials are a shortcut to flawless skin, lit from within radiance and ageless beauty. 8 Ways to Step up in Uncertain Times21 Jan 202100:15:17
What can we, as “emerging elders”, offer during these uncertain times? I believe strongly that we all have a part to play, and that the changes we can make start with us. This episode - the first in Season 2 of the Midlife Movement Podcast - outlines 8 suggestions for how we as “emerging elders” can step up in the face of calamity, both personal and global.
  1. MODEL RESILIENCE
  2. REVIEW YOUR BELIEFS
  3. VARY YOUR SOURCES OF INFORMATION
  4. SEEK OUT THOSE WHOSE EXPERIENCE OF LIFE DIFFERS FROM YOURS
  5. LISTEN WITHOUT THINKING OF A REPLY
  6. LET GO OF THE NEED TO BE RIGHT
  7. CHECK YOUR THOUGHTS
  8. KNOW BETTER, BE BETTER

How do you feel about growing older?12 Mar 202000:21:29
The Midlife Movement, in conjunction with Founder, Portrait Photographer Jo Blackwell, recently completed a project where women 40 plus were photographed without their make-up. On International Women's Day, 2020, at the resultant Exhibition and Book launch, we released a film featuring the 52 women who had taken part.  In it, we asked them the question: "How do you feel about growing older?" You can watch the film on the Midlife Movement website

Campaigning for Fair Pensions for Women in the UK, with Carol May24 Oct 201900:37:08
The Back to 60 Campaign recently took the UK Government to court over the decision to raise the pension age for women born in the 50s and 60s. At the time of this conversation, the case was in judicial review. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled for the Government. as the aim is to bring women's pension age in line with men's. The campaign's argument regarding the fairness of the speed of the changes does not seem to have been addressed. Campaigner, Carol May, explains what is happening, and why women should take control of their own finances at whatever age or stage they are at.

Our Changing Faces with Lucy Boulter & Jane McCourt03 Oct 201900:20:35
On 24th September, The Midlife Movement was featured on The BBC Regional Evening News. Specifically, the. Portrait Project, Face it, Own it! was the subject of the segment. This Project aims to show the natural beauty of women 40 plus - without make-up.  Of course, this meant that I had to appear on National TV without make-up myself, which threw up a lot of issues for me around visibility, worthiness and fear of judgement.  In this episode, the two Midlife Movement members I invited to take part in the segment, Lucy Boulter and Jane McCourt, chat with me about the day, how it felt to be exposed to the glare of the camera and how they feel about their appearance in midlife.
