In this episode, singer Joey Southside takes us through the early beginnings of tha band, unlikely inspirations for their songs spanning from Batman video games to Outbreak, an argument about whether or not he wore eyeliner or not (he did), and bonds their scene formed internally with themselves and externally with multi-platinum partners My Chemical Romance.

One might say… tha greatest lake. SIT DOWN, HURON!⁣

Madina Lake was formed in tha aftermath of two Chicago mainstays: Blank Theory and Reforma.⁣

Episode 100.

This is a show about albums released on Roadrunner Records so who better for episode 100 than the best selling band in the history of the label - Nickelback.

Ether Seeds - Ether Seeds (2003) [w/ Dustin Lowery of Ether Seeds]24 Apr 202400:59:21

MEEPER SEEDS.
Too Easy.

Sometimes albums are made for Roadrunner... and not released?
HUH?! WHAT'S THAT MEAN?!

In the mid 2000s the label was going through a boom and signing lots of bands since Roadrunner had recently been caught by the coyote that was Island Def Jam essentially making the bird a major label with that major label money and a huge mainstream hit with Nickelback.

In 2003, Ether Seeds, was set to release their self titled debut album on Roadrunner Records. The Seeds were a band fronted by Dustin Lowery who was then and still is now brothers to Clint Lowery of Sevendust fame and Corey Lowery who is currently in Seether but did time in Stuck Mojo, Stereomud and others.

The band were signed to the label, recorded the album, and weeks before it was set to release... were dropped! And the album never came out. They weren't the only band on Roadrunner or in the music industry to suffer that fate by any means but certainly one of the more head scratching with not only a strong pedigree but a great record behind it!

Dustin was generous enough to tell us the story of the band's entire life on this episode and while you know the ending, the episodes in between are pretty fascinating.

So save your own life... and listen now!!!

To My Surprise - To My Surprise (2003) [w/ Brandon Darner of To My Surprise]25 Oct 202301:57:15

GET MEEP TO GO.

Oh sorry...I didn't mean to startle you but we're talking about the 2003 album by tha band To My Surprise, 20 years after it's release.

To My Surprise is a fascinating, although be it short lived, project, probably most known for being the side project of Slipknot mastermind and percussionist Shawn Crahan who not only thought it was fun to create with Crayola...but also with renowned producer and former owner of Smokey Mountain Wrestling... RICK RUBIN. That's right, this self titled album was produced by Rick and would be the first time these two would work together, pre-dating even Slipknot's Volume 3 record which Rick also helmed.

Shawn was not alone however; Early Slipknot member and current successful producer in his own right, Brandon Darner, was the Crahan Collaborator for this opus and would help it sound like nothing else Slipknot or any of their off-shoots ever created and that's who we're talking to on this very special episode.

Brandon tells us all about his relationship with Shawn, tha idea for the band, making tha album with Rick Rubin, his band tha Envy Corps and even early days with Slipknot playing with THE URGE.

All this and nothing else on an all new Meep Meep!

Star Star - The Love Drag Years (1992) [w/ Johnnie Holliday of Star Star]22 Mar 202300:53:16

STAR STAR MEEP MEEP

On this episode we're going back to NINETEEN NINETY TWO with an album that pre-dates all of tha false cries that Roadrunner had suddenly moved away from their metal roots.

You see, tha same year that RR would release THE END COMPLETE by Obituary, LEGION by Deicide, and SOUL of a NEW MACHINE by Fear Factory among plenty more examples they would also put out an album by a band called STAR STAR entitled tha LOVE DRAG YEARS and Star Star was many things but... decidedly not death metal.

What many may not realize is Roadrunner never wanted to be a death metal boutique label and from tha very beginning they were trying out various things searching for great bands that could sell records.

So enter Star Star, a 90s band with an 80s sound influenced by the 70s. The Love Drag Years was full of catchy anthems that would have fit in with the sleaze of Motley Crue more than the sludge of Suffocation.

The formation of this band and making of this album is a pretty wild ride but luckily we had a guide in frontman and main member Johnnie Holiday, who takes us from New York to LA and back again...

Make Them Suffer - Neverbloom (2012) [w/ Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer]15 Mar 202300:53:46

MEEP THEM SUFFER

On this episode we celebrate a milestone or in this case...
a kilometerstone because we're dicussing 10 years of Australia's Make Them Suffer releasing their debut full length album NEVERBLOOM on Roadrunner Records.

Make Them Suffer's story of landing on the big bird is a unique one as they were potentially the only successful use of a system used at the time called SIGN ME TO ROADRUNNER which was a website unsigned bands would upload their demos to in hopes of getting a record deal!

Vocalist Sean Harmanis takes us through the band's origins and their process through making this album, the local scene they experienced in Perth, Studio Ghibli movies influencing his writing process, the use of keyboards in their songs, their first tour being exclusively by public transportation, and the natural evolution of their sound to the MTS of today.

And if you love this album already or are psyched to jam it after hearing it's biography, it has recently been remastered and re-issued on streaming platforms everywhere and on vinyl for tha first time through Greyscale Records!...in full color.

2022 is tha 10 year anniversary of Shinedown's album "Amaryllis" released in all territories outside of tha USA on Roadrunner Records.

Amaryllis had tha pressure of following tha biggest Shinedown release to that point, SOUND OF MADNESS, and also was on a new label home of Roadrunner.

It produced some of tha best received songs in tha band's live catalog and seems to have grown fonder in their fan's eyes through time, but not without plenty of hurdles to get it there!

Brent Smith of Shinedown takes us through a journey of getting to this album, making it, and all tha lessons along tha way!

Both Worlds - Memory Rendered Visible (1998) [w/ John "Bloodclot" Joseph]11 Oct 202200:44:59

Meepery Rendered Visible. That one's too easy.

In tha late 90s, ex-Cro Mags frontman John Joseph teamed up with AJ Novello, Eddie Coen, and Pokey from Leeway and formed Both Worlds. They put out one EP and one album, a full length on Roadrunner Records in 1998 with guest Meepsters Mina Caputo of Life of Agony and Derrick Green of Sepultura. It rocks.

Fast forward 20+ years later and John is still surrounded by Meep with his current band Bloodclot in former bassist Manny from Glassjaw, current bassist Christian from Fear Factory, and producer Laz of ill Nino.

Memory Rendered Visible is an awesome album that if you're aware of you'll be excited to hear more about and if you didn't know, we're gonna smarten you up to tha business kid!

Terror - Always the Hard Way (2006) [w/ Nick Jett of Terror]13 Jul 202200:38:44

LIVING WITH A POD COMPLEX: ⁣
Exploring albums released on Trustkill Records that were distributed by Roadrunner. ⁣

They say you have 10 years to make your most relevant material - nobody told Terror. Two decades later they're making their most important music to date but in between tha instant classics their first two records & their modern masterclass in core "Keepers of the Faith", they did not choose to make it easy. ⁣

2006's "Always the Hard Way" was their first after guitarist Todd Jones' departure & would set tha tone for what Terror would do next. With Todd gone, drummer Nick Jett took tha songwriting reigns & made an album often overlooked but just as crushing as their hallmarks. ⁣

And you don't have to blade to hear about tha Hard Way; it's easy!⁣
⁣Just push play like Steve Tyler on this UNLOCKED Meep Meep!
