The Mavericks snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in this one. After going up by 16 against the Memphis Grizzlies, having a mediocre coach came to bite us as no adjustments were made amidst a huge Memphis run. Then, once adjustments were made, they were adjustments that made no sense. Kyrie and Jaden Hardy, our only creators, were hobbled and Jason Kidd thought it was a great idea to let them take turns playing iso ball while the others were scared to do anything at all. In this week's episode of the Mavs Outsiders podcast, things are not looking so terrible for the first time in a long time. The Mavericks defeated the Spurs and the Lakers to finish the week and they got Kyrie back from injury. Kyrie is still listed as questionable for Monday's game but the fact that he played is a good sign of things to come. While the Mavs wait for Luka Doncic to return to health, they are also getting consistent contributions from other guys. One of those guys being Josh Green whose confidence appeared to have waned before he was forced into a larger role. While you never want to be without your stars, perhaps the injuries are a blessing in disguise for the team in the long run. Of course, everything is not perfect. While Jason Kidd did experiment with two-big lineups and was rewarded for it with huge Powell and Wood games, there's no telling what Kidd will do as the team gets healthy. We're all just along for the ride at this time but at least we're having a little fun now. There was a lot of anxiety within the fanbase after a tough loss in Game 4. The Jazz were feeling good and the Mavs were remembering the recent heartbreak they've faced in the postseason.  However, that anxiety did not translate to the team as the Mavs came out and executed their vision from start to finish. The defense was elite and Luka and Jalen Brunson finally looked like a power tandem. Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Mike Conley played terribly and the Mavs won the game going away. The Outsiders were feeling good during this recording.  Enjoy! The Mavs fall to the Utah Jazz in game 4to even the series up at 2-2. If you had told me prior to the series that Luka was going to miss 3 games and we'd go into Game 5 tied 2-2 I would have been thrilled. The Dallas Mavericks came into game 2 of the first round down 0-1 to the Utah Jazz after losing a heartbreaker. The Mavs had plenty of chances to win in game 1 and it felt like that was our opportunity to steal a game against the Jazz without Luka. We had no idea what to expect in game 2 but man it was one for the ages.  The Mavs came out and got the W and all it took was a career-high from Jalen Brunson and 1 point below a career-high for Maxi Kleber. Donovan Mitchell had another poor shooting game and the Mavs' defense showed up to make the Jazz earn every point. In the end, it was a collective effort that closed out the Jazz so the Mavs will go into game 3 with the series even as they buy Luka more time to recover.  (No minutes breakdown it's all recap.) The Dallas Mavericks enter their First-Round series against the Utah Jazz down their most lethal weapon. The calf strain that Luka Doncic suffered in the last game of the season did indeed hold him out of game 1. There is no confirmation yet but Luka is likely to be out of game 2 as well so the question is, do we feel better about our chances of winning without Luka after this game? For the Mavs to even be competitive, multiple Mavs needed to have the best playoff games of their lives. What a week it was. The regular season is over and during this episode of the podcast, The Outsiders give you a little bit of everything. The season is nearing its end and the Mavs are still playing winning basketball. After going 3-1 on the week with wins over the Lakers, Cavaliers, and Bucks, the Mavs still have a good chance of ending up the 3 seed. A loss to the Wizards likely hurt a lot of souls, however. In the latest episode of the Mavs Outsiders Podcast, Reese and Bibs had a lot to talk about. Since they already covered the Kristaps Porzingis trade thoroughly in their previous episode (go back and listen if you haven't) they were able to focus on everything else that happened this week. In this episode, the Outsiders assembled an emergency session to discuss the trade deadline deal that was completed by the Dallas Mavericks. After years of suffer- ok maybe not suffering, but after years of back and forth with the Kristaps Porzingis situation, the Mavs decided that they had enough.  Trade Details Dallas Mavericks receive:  * Spencer Dinwiddie  * Davis Bertans Washington Wizards receive:  * Kristaps Porzingis * 2nd round pick The Outsiders are NOT on the same page with regard to this trade and they go back and forth with their feelings about it.  Additionally, the Mavericks announced a contract extension for Dorian Finney-Smith 4 years, $52 million dollars. In this episode of the Mavs Outsiders Podcast, Bibs and Reese have yet another weird week of basketball to cover. This week started with a loss to the lowly Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavericks made Josh Giddey, Tre Mann, and Lu Dort look like veteran stars as they pushed the Mavericks to overtime and then beat them calmly once they got there. The Mavericks, already without Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr., would see Maxi Kleber suffer an injury during this game as well.  Going into the next game against the 76ers did not look promising, nor did the game against the hot Atlanta Hawks. However, the team showed up for both of these games and walked away with victories. The Outsiders break down what they saw in these games. What they liked and/or different like.  After the game talk, Reese wanted to talk about the trade deadline and specifically how Mavericks fans are acting leading up to it. In this episode of the Mavs Outsiders podcast, Bibs and Reese bring back the panel for the first time in several months. They welcome Jose Mata (@Paradoxkilla23), Rolo (@SpeakOnItRolo), and Isaac (@IsaacAppelt) onto the podcast to talk about the latest in Dallas Mavericks basketball and in the NBA in general.  There is a lot going on right now between the All Star starter announcements, the pending trade deadline, Tim Hardaway Jr.'s serious foot injury and KP's recent mysterious knee injury. As expected we had a very interesting conversation and left no topic uncovered.  Besides the extra happenings, there was also Mavs basketball to discuss. Both Bibs and Reese predicted a 4-0 week and the Mavs proceeded to go 2-2 with one of those losses being to the Orlando Magic. The Golden State loss, while not a bad loss in and of itself, was an embarrassing blowout game where we lost Tim Hardaway Jr. to injury, then lost KP to an ejection after he kicked the ball into the stands.  Outside of the losses we had a great win against the Blazers and a big win over the Indiana Pacers in Rick Carlisle's emotional homecoming. The Dallas Mavericks went 2-1 in a week that saw them beating the Grizzlies and Magic but losing in embarrassing fashion to the New York Knicks. It was an interesting week of basketball but there was plenty of off-the-court news as well. This week the Mavs got Jason Kidd and Kristaps Porzingis back from health and safety protocols prior to the last game of the week. Prior to this, the team also waived JaQuori McLaughlin and Willie Cauley-Stein. The team also signed Marquese Chriss to a two-year deal. We currently have zero players on the injury report for what feels like the first time since the start of the year. We also have an open 2-way contract still. We are in a great position right now as we make our second-half push.  Now that we can breathe, Reese and Bibs decided to have a little fun and have the audience send in their trade ideas. In this episode, Bibs and Reese talk about the Dallas Mavericks 6 game win streak. The Mavs are rolling, the team defensive rating is top 5 in the league and a permanent change was made to the starting lineup. At the start of the week, Jason Kidd announced that Luka and Jalen Brunson would be starting together permanently and this marked a significant moment for the future of the team. This week also saw Josh Green post multiple career-high scoring games with 17 points against the Rockets and 18 points against the Bulls. It's officially Sugar Glider season.  After that, we got into our All-Star votes. Not just the starters but the full teams. There were some interesting differences but not many. In this episode, the Outsiders spend a lot less time on the game-by-game breakdown and focus on the new faces that were shuffled into the lineup. The Mavs were hit hard by Covid and had to sign 6 replacement players. In this episode, Bibs and Reese go over yet another mediocre (at best) week of Dallas Mavericks basketball. The Mavericks lost to the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant, Kyle Anderson, and Brandon Clarke, They also lost to the New Orleans Pelicans after blowing out the Pelicans by 32 two days prior. Both of these losses were preceded by a blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Kristaps Porzingis missed the last two games with a knee injury and Luka Doncic missed the Grizzlies game with a knee injury of his own. It's bleak out here people. Insult was added to injury when Desmond Bane called out the Dallas Mavericks not drafting him and called out Josh Green by name.  On top of this, Bibs felt the need to let off some thoughts on Luka Doncic's leadership. It was a rough week for the Dallas Mavericks. It started on a high note with a win over the Denver Nuggets but even that game wasn't all fun. Luka went down with an injury in the closing minutes and he missed the next 3 games. During that time, Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Brunson, and Tim Hardaway, Jr. were asked to step up and show that they can hold down the fort while Luka was out. How did that go? Well, it didn't result in any wins but according to Jason Kidd, they are LEARNING how to win without Luka. Take that how you will. This week on the Mavs Outsiders podcast, Bibs and Reese have a lot to talk about. First, we surprised you with the Skin episode over the weekend and have had a great reaction thus far. If you haven't listened, go back and check it out. This week the Mavs played the Pelicans, Bulls, and the Spurs and they beat the teams you would expect them to beat and lost to the team you expected them to lose to. That is the story of the season so far. However, the Mavs blew out the Spurs which marked the first time that they really looked like the better team in any game this season. Today's episode has been in the works for a few weeks. During the October 23rd game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors, Bibs voiced some frustrations with the Mavs broadcast. Publicly, Mark Followill had a response after the game, defending his work. Privately, Skin reached out to have a conversation.  From that conversation, this episode was sparked. The Mavericks come out of another winning week and now sit at 6-3 on the season which is good for 3rd place in the West. However, we saw two close wins against teams that have played poorly so far this season and another double-digit loss to the only good team we played this week. We'll take the W's but who is this team? We also saw the return of Kristaps Porzingis and his back looked very loose. The Outsiders discuss all of this in this week's episode. Under normal circumstances, this would have been a great week for the Dallas Mavericks. The team went 3-1 and now sits at a respectable 4-2 on the season. However, it has been difficult to feel good about any of the wins and both losses were blowouts to winning playoff teams. On top of this, the Mavs are now dealing with injuries to key players in Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber. In this week's episode of the Mavs Outsiders podcast, Bibs and Reese FINALLY have real basketball to talk about. The Dallas Mavericks played the Atlanta Hawks and the Toronto Raptors this week and the results were mixed. We go over both games, the things we saw, and our expectations going forward.  From there we get into the Haralabos Voulgaris, or Bob, interview. Bob went onto The ESPN Daily podcast to speak with Pablo Torre about his life and his time with the Dallas Mavericks. Bob apparently did not sign any type of non-disclosure agreement because he disclosed everything. From his start with the team to his relationship with Donnie, Rick, and the rest of the Mavs staff. He mentioned players by name and gave his version of different events that were mentioned in the Tim Cato bombshell from the Summer. Last year's results turned out great but there were tweaks made to the formula to see if the results could be even better. In this episode, Bibs and Reese are once again joined by a guest from the Mavs media world. This time it is the host of the Mavs Stepback podcast (@StepBackMavs) and writer for Mavericks Sports Illustrated (@MavericksSI), Dalton Trigg. This episode is a long one because we covered a lot of topics and did a deep dive into the upcoming NBA season.  First, we addressed the Dallas Mavericks' most recent cuts, most specifically cutting the 31st pick in last year's draft Tyrell Terry.
