A young guest is cross -examined by his host's family about his behaviors which they perceive to be arrogant. In reality though he shows how each of his actions is a  careful orchestration of the Torah's script.

People are selective about which parts of the Torah they pay attention to. Some are meticulous in the ritualistic laws and negligent in the human laws. Others are the opposite. Both undermine the integrity of the systemic nature of the entire Torah as an integrated whole.

Analyzing a Tosfot this episode highlights the two most important capacities for learning Torah:  1) The capacity to distinguish between two ideas that seem to be the same; 2) to understand the similarities between two ideas that seem to have nothing in common. A pesul (disqualification) caused by time or place is different from one caused by a deficiency in the individual him or herself. A disqualification resulting from being in the wrong time frame is similar to the disqualification of being in the wrong place.
