Ep. 219: The Marriage Tool that Makes Or Breaks Connection21 Jul 202500:26:16

There’s one tool that shows your spouse you care about how they feel, helps rebuild trust, and creates the kind of emotional safety every strong relationship needs. And yet, it’s one of the most misunderstood (and misused) tools in marriage.

I’m talking about apology. Not the kind that shuts a conversation down or smooths things over quickly, but the kind that actually brings you closer. Whether you're someone who avoids saying sorry, finds yourself over-apologizing, or just wishes your spouse would do it better, I’m getting into why this skill is so critical for connection and how to use it well.

Tune in to discover:

  • The surprising psychological reasons so many people struggle to apologize
  • Why your spouse’s apology might not feel satisfying (and what to do about it)
  • What research says about the way men and women apologize differently
  • A 3-part formula you can use to give powerful, effective apologies
  • How to get more of what you need even if your partner doesn’t apologize often (or at all)

Ep. 218: The Power of Naming What You Need from Your Spouse with Elizabeth Newcamp14 Jul 202500:45:25

Sometimes the biggest shift in your marriage starts with getting crystal clear on what you actually need—and saying it out loud.

In this special episode, I’m joined by the incredible Elizabeth Newcamp, military spouse, mom of three, and co-host of Slate’s Care and Feeding podcast, for a real, tender, and honest conversation about resentment, default parenting, emotional labor, and what it means to truly feel seen in your relationship.

We talk about the invisible mental load, how resentment shows up even when you want to be a team, and the surprisingly powerful thing Elizabeth did to shift how she and her husband communicate (it gave me chills).

Tune in to discover:

  • Why resentment doesn’t mean your marriage is broken
  • The invisible load of emotional labor and how to name it clearly
  • What happened when Elizabeth wrote her husband the apology she needed to hear
  • The surprising power of being explicit about what you need (even when it feels unfair to spell it out)
  • Why real change in marriage takes intention, communication, and practice

Ep. 119: Deployment Series 2.0 - The Secret To Easier Deployments07 Aug 202300:32:07

In this episode, we uncover what it really means to take care of yourself, even when it feels like you have zero time or energy left in your day. But if you truly want to increase your happiness, strengthen your relationship with your spouse, and improve deployments, THIS is the way.

Tune in to this powerful episode as we explore:

  • Five signs that you are on your way to burnout (and how burnout can impact your health and marriage)

  • The pivotal role of self care in fueling your ability to manage your daily demands and responsibilities

  • Discovering what self care is (and how to incorporate it even with limited time and capacity)

  • Why relying on your spouse for the same support during deployments may lead to disappointment and arguments

Ep. 208: Mother’s Day Doesn’t Fix The Mental Load05 May 202500:27:47

Mother’s Day is supposed to be a celebration of moms—but for many of us, it just ends up highlighting how much we’re carrying, how little help we’re getting, and how unseen we feel most of the time. While the cards and flowers are sweet, they don’t solve the deeper issue of the mental load so many moms are buried under.

In this episode, I’m getting real about what’s really going on beneath the surface, and why one day of appreciation isn’t enough when you’re carrying it all the other 364. I’ll walk you through the steps I took to get out of resentment, build true partnership, and create a system where I feel supported every day—not just on Mother’s Day.

Tune in to discover:

  • Why the mental load is about way more than just household tasks
  • What your heart is actually craving (and it’s not a better gift)
  • How to feel more emotionally supported by your spouse
  • The difference between a “manager” and a true partner—and how to shift out of that role
  • What to ask for when you’re tired of holding it all alone

This episode is for every mom who feels like one day of celebration just isn’t enough (because it’s not). Let’s create the kind of marriage and support system that makes every day feel like you matter.

Ep. 104: The Number One Thing That Makes You Happy in Life24 Apr 202300:29:19

I love research y’all. I stumbled across an 85 year Harvard study recently that blew my mind. It sent me into deep-dive research mode, and I came out of that wanting to share what I learned with you in this episode: what will make you happy, healthy, and live longer.

This episode validates what I have personally learned and experienced as a Military Psychologist and Marriage Coach. I only want to share things with you that are backed by research and apply to ALL of us, not only a handful of my clients. This is something we need to be prioritizing and talking about more with those around us. So, listen in to learn what makes the biggest difference in our happiness above anything else, so you can start implementing this in your life today.

We’re exploring:

  • The #1 thing that contributes to us living happier, healthier, and longer

  • What does NOT make us happier (that most of us think will)

  • How our mood and experience of physical and emotional pain are impacted by relationships

  • Harmful thinking that prevents couples from getting what they want

  • What we need to be prioritizing over everything else for the biggest positive change in our lives

  • Why this is crucial for military couples specifically

Ep. 103: When You Should Get Divorced…17 Apr 202300:27:54

Have you ever thought about getting support in your marriage, but thought, “our relationship isn’t THAT bad?”. Yet nothing changed, and if anything, it’s now worse?

It’s normal to have anxiety and worry about what will happen in your marriage if you do decide to ask for help, but we were never taught how to figure out relationships all on our own. And it doesn’t have to mean anything that you are trying to improve your relationship.

Instead of wondering if your relationship is going to make it, listen to this episode to hear my answers on when to move forward with the divorce process, and when your marriage can be repaired (this often surprises people!).

We’re also exploring:

  • What makes getting support in your marriage so difficult
  • The scenarios when I recommend (and don’t recommend) divorce with my clients
  • My take on issues like infidelity, addiction, physical or emotional abuse, and more
  • What happens if neither of you are willing to have tough conversations together
  • Encouragement to get support and make small shifts toward a healthier marriage

In this episode, I am giving you the essential tools to get what you need from your spouse in the most productive and healthy way. This episode answers one of the most common questions I hear: “Where do I start if I want things to change?” I’m breaking down where to focus your energy (especially if your partner isn’t on board yet), and how just one shift can start bringing you back to a place of connection and support.

Tune in to discover:

  • What to stop focusing on when you want things to improve
  • The mistake many couples make when they’re feeling disconnected

Ep. 81: The Secret Weapon for Better Arguments14 Nov 202200:28:14

When you’re in the midst of an argument it can sometimes be really hard to see the end, right? Problem-solving can feel impossible (especially if you have a defensive partner) and distance can exacerbate these issues if you’re disagreeing during a deployment.

So, are you ready for the SECRET WEAPON you need for better arguments with your spouse?

It’s an apology!! I know it can seem almost too simple, but stick with me - it’s actually A LOT more complicated than it seems. In today’s episode, I’m diving into the apology, how you could be doing them wrong (yes, there is a wrong way to do it!), and what you need to know to start using the apology as the surefire secret weapon to ending an argument and moving towards compromise in a real way.
