| My Talk with Shaine Greenwood | 24 oct. 2021 | 00:56:47 | |
Earlier this month, I spoke to writer Shaine Greenwood about his recently-published sci-fi anthology, The Aether, but we discussed a number of other topics, including beta readers, Patreon and self-promotion, social media, and whether writers should also be readers.
About Shaine:
Shaine Greenwood (he/him pronouns) is a Seattle-based writer who takes practice in the time-honored Pacific Northwest traditions of drinking coffee, hiking, and avoiding eye contact with strangers.
He has recently published The Aether, a collection of 11 scifi stories, on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091G2NH3Z
Aside from the published works on Amazon, you can find Shaine's writings on his author site, youaremuted.com

| Exploring the Possibilities of Ekphrastic Poetry | 26 sept. 2021 | 00:40:05 | |
Ekphrastic poetry includes vivid imagery about a work of art created by another artist. You may have read ekphrastic poems inspired by paintings or sculptures, but they can also be about music, dance, and other forms of art. I explain some reasons why ekphrastic poetry can be so appealing to readers and writers, and how these poems can get our creative juices flowing.

| Talking with...WB Welch! | 01 août 2021 | 00:46:50 | |
I recently had a great discussion with writer WB Welch about novellas, horror writing, poetry, and how writers can fit writing into a busy schedule and effectively use social media.
*****
About WB Welch: While she's spent most of her professional career in marketing and customer communications, WB has had many hobbies over the years, including photography and natural skin care and holistic remedies. She studied and became certified in personal training and corrective exercise, and she’s always been an adrenaline junkie. She’s been bungee jumping, skydiving, owned a Yamaha R1 for a time (before it was so woefully stollen), and she was getting pretty decent at staying on top of a skateboard before chronic illness slowed her down a little. She’s currently working as an email developer while writing in her free time. She often focuses on the darker side of human emotions, striving to write honest fiction with texture. Publishing credits include Blood Drops, The Last Letter, and Wet Water, as well as “Baby Muncher” in the 16th edition of Thrice Fiction. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Southern Methodist University.

In addition to being the title of a much-discussed movie in the mid-1990s, "pulp" fiction was a type of literature that was popular in the early 20th century. | The First Amendment, Continued: Defamation and Libel | 31 janv. 2021 | 00:21:33 | |
To expand upon what I discussed in last week's episode, the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution places limitations on certain types of speech. Another type of speech that is not protected is defamation--in particular (for writers, anyway), libel. On one of the most, umm, eventful evenings in recent history, I spoke to Cassandra L. Thompson about gothic literature, founding a publishing house, and a number of other topics. About Cassandra: Cassandra L. Thompson has been creating stories since she got her grubby little hands around a pen. When she is not busy managing a house full of feral children (human and canine), you can find her wandering around in cemeteries, taking pictures of abandoned things, exploring lonely patches of woods, or in the library doing research on her latest obsession.
