About Mia and Elizabeth22 Oct 202500:02:05

We're Mia and Elizabeth, and we share a passion for making evidence available to people who are curious about science and the value it can add to everyday living.

A little bit about how we ended up starting a podcast together. We collaborated on projects supported by the federal government addressing issues including mental health, HIV, and substance use disorders. Mia is an epidemiologist and data scientist who comes from a public health science background, and Elizabeth is a communicator-turned-researcher with expertise in the strategic dissemination of scientific evidence. Dissemination, by the way, is just a fancy word for spreading information coming out of the research to people who can put it to use.

In developing dissemination strategies for federal research initaitives, we realized that data scientists wanted to talk to people outside of their field about research evidence and its usefulness.  Many of them just didn't have the time to develop a platform for doing so, or relied on their institution's communication platforms to elevate knowlege of their research. Turns out, their research evidence continued to circulate in the same academic circles.

Our podcast is designed to forge relationships between scientists and the public. And without getting into the "weeds" of theory and methodology, we want to communicate knowlege created through research that can be useful for navigating common problems and questions that relate to all of us.

If you are a researcher: this podcast is for you. If you are someone who wants to understand evidence and the scientific process better: this podcast is for you. If you are simply interested in knowing for yourself what the science "says" about important topics or want to make decisions informed by evidence: you're in the right place!

We look forward to launching our first series in January 2026. Stay tuned.
