Business Casual Is Erasing Your Personality (Let’s Fix That)02 Mar 202600:28:15

Most of us have been there — standing in front of the closet, wondering why business casual feels so… forgettable. In this episode, stylist Tannya Bernadette coaches Rachel, a creative marketing professional, through real-time wardrobe upgrades that are both polished and deeply personal.

No cookie-cutter rules. No generic “office outfit templates.” Just actionable style shifts that help you look like the leader you are becoming — even in a casual environment.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

• How to elevate business casual without going overdressed — it’s about intentional contrast, not formality.

• Why color and personality matter in your wardrobe — comfort doesn’t have to equal invisibility.

• The mindset behind keeping clothes that serve you (and letting go of those that don’t).

If you want to start building a life (and a wardrobe) that actually reflects who you’re becoming, this episode is for you.

Make your life easier and condense what you have. Can you imagine what it would feel like to have a closet full of pieces you can grab, wear and leave the house feeling like you look good? I find many people not happy with their clothing anymore and doing that morning ritual of trying everything on in their closet, only to find themselves wearing the same pieces they really like again.

I want to focus on the bigger picture: what you need to donate and take out of your closet.

If you want to learn more about my 3 Step process of editing your closet, how to shop, and putting together 20 outfits in your closet, get on the waitlist for my Style Refresh Program. Elevate Your Everyday Style 06 Feb 202300:30:39

You don’t want to wear leggings or be in a full-on pantsuit, so what do you wear to elevate your everyday style (and still feel comfortable)?

There’s no real word for it, but it’s like casual wear with a step up. It’s that put-together look that feels comfortable enough to wear at home and still be able to walk out the door wearing. It’s that outfit you can easily change up with a different shoe, jewelry, or a cool jacket. An outfit that looks intentional, like you pieced it together, but not over the top.

Shop my favorite pieces to upgrade your everyday style.

It’s not enough to say new clothes can boost your confidence. When you set up the story, someone who wants that extra confidence boost can start to imagine it for themselves. In the end, the best way to understand it is to have a connection to the story. When you hear the promise of gaining confidence from a product or service that tells you, ‘if you do this one thing for seven days, you’ll find an increased confidence,’ you think, well, how do I know my confidence has increased? How do you measure this?

I want to share with you what increased confidence looks like because it can be different for everyone. Overall, increased confidence means showing up in your life differently, having different energy levels, getting more positive attention from peers, increased perception towards yourself, and so much more!

In each scenario, I'll also share a story that will help you see the connection of it all.

The Ultimate Guide to Sweater Care06 Jan 202300:25:50

Sweater Care Products
The most popular comfy piece in your closet is a sweater. Whether you wear sweaters to work, around the house, or on a night out, this is a staple piece you want to keep around for a long time. It takes a little extra care to keep them in shape and ‘wearable’ in public.

Some sweaters last longer than others. If you buy a natural sweater made of 100% cashmere or alpaca, they’ll breathe easier and need fewer washes. If you buy or own a sweater with a mix of fibers, including polyester, you’ll find they need to be washed more often and hold onto odors more.

In this episode, I'm breaking down tips for keeping your sweaters looking new!

When you’re thinking about what you want to change or add to your life in the New Year, I have some advice: delete, take away, and subtract some of 2022. Take away the parts of what you did that felt exhausting, take away from items you spent on that didn’t bring you the joy you thought you’d get, and say no to the people or commitments that took you away from what you were trying to achieve.

A new year brings new goals, and I'm giving you a step-by-step guide to making your goals more accessible.

It is full-on sweater season over here. It snowed a few weeks ago, and I don't want to wear a blouse again until it starts warming up. Sweater options are abundant and available in many colors, neutrals, and styles. There are perfect options for work, casualwear, and every day. I wore a sweater every day last week, and I'm all for great trousers, pants, and warm sweater options right now.

As I work with clients through the shopping process, two questions have come up a lot: how do I invest in sustainable pieces, and how do I take care of my sweaters? I've researched and found the perfect passionate person who knows so much about this.

Elisa Yip is the founder of SSkein, a sustainable luxury knitwear brand made with purpose and integrity. We met at the Bellevue Collection Fashion show through one of my best friends, who has been trying to hook us up for years. When I went to her home to try on her pieces, I fell more in love with the brand because of how well-made it was. I don't want to go into too much detail about her or Sskein. In this conversation, she shares everything you need to know about cashmere, alpaca, sweater care, how often to wash your sweaters, and so much more.

Finding Friends as Adults & Building Intentional Friendships with Moni Giles09 Dec 202200:52:27

The importance of friendship. Goodness, there are so many reasons we need other women in our lives and so many reasons that strong bonds create just a mental health boost. My life this season has been the roughest in parenting. Who knew that toddlers go through the terrible twos? I’ve been in a huge struggle with getting her to bed, getting her to wash her hands, talking to her, getting her to daycare, going potty, and really struggling with every part of daily life that doesn’t involve playing or having her in my arms.

I would be a total mess if it weren’t for my friendships this season. I haven’t felt like myself lately with the stress of it all, so I didn’t do any podcasts for the past couple of weeks. I don’t want to overwhelm you with it, and I also wanted to make sure I can come here and give you the best of me. Today, I’m still not on the other side of this struggle, but I feel more hopeful after journaling.

Most recently, I met Moni online. Through an Instagram message. The one message I sent her about how I admired what she’s doing in the eastside to bring women together ended up turning into a coffee date and working on a project together.

There is nothing better than meeting other women in our community that are doing amazing things like lifting others through events, networking, and helping other women change their life. Moni is the goal-fulfillment coach behind Evolve with Moni. She takes you to a life where you get permission to create new chapters in your life and learn how to love unconditionally and set boundaries, give freely and monetize your skills, support others and fulfill your own.

Writing Your Story & Overcoming Burnout with Camille Campin-Adams28 Oct 202200:56:59

Shop from the Fall Style Guide with over 100 of the top pieces to wear this season  https://myclosetedit.com/shopping-guide

When looking for answers, the best way to look for them is within yourself. Writing has been such a therapeutic exercise for me. I’ve been journaling since I was a little girl because it helped me take out big and small feelings that I couldn’t express to others. As an adult, it helps me sort through my thoughts, dreams, and experiences, and I highly recommend writing to anyone who wants to add a new form of selling love in their life.

My guest today is Camille Campins-Adams is a best-selling author and a book coach that helps you launch the book inside of you. This conversation brought back my excitement to get back to my book. A little over a year ago, I started writing a book based on styling and life. I was dedicated, writing hours every night for months until I hit a roadblock. The stories pouring out of me were from a difficult time in my life I still had to overcome. I didn’t want stories as part of the book, but I couldn’t steer it back. I decided to take a break and reach out to Camille again to talk about:

  • How to overcome burnout
  • When to pivot
  • The best ways to stay accountable in the writing process.

Whether you want to become an author or write for your own healing, this episode is for you!

Navigating The Rocky Side of Business25 Oct 202200:38:44

The media glamorizes and shares the shiny parts of running a business like, making your own schedule. Traveling to fancy places to work, and getting to create a morning routine. It makes everyone want to find an idea and run to it to create this magical life that entrepreneurs have. Luckily I didn’t see that side of it. I grew up with a family that ran their own business in Peru. I saw the hardship of working from the crack of dawn util closing time, of finding the right employees to run their store, and the work outside of work that has to be done to keep it going.

In this episode I share stories about overcoming:

  • Failure
  • Comparison
  • Risk Taking

The Truth About Building a Capsule Wardrobe19 Oct 202200:21:10

Buy the Fall Shopping Guide > https://myclosetedit.com/shopping-guide

This timeless collection of pieces you can mix and match for your life. Can you recreate this? It's such a trending topic to live life like a minimalist and have this small collection of pieces but what does that look like in real life?

This topic came up on TikTok, and I couldn't help but think about how unrealistic it is to believe that you can hold onto something without changing or wanting to change. I like mixing it up with other things, such as food, exercise routines, and morning rituals. I get a solid routine for a bit, something happens, or I want to try something new and replace what I was doing. I go through phases where I'm obsessed with peanut butter and jelly (in it right now). I've gone through a ton of peanut butter the past couple of months, but it's a phase, and then I find another snack to replace it that I love. I get bored.

The definition of a capsule wardrobe feels so limiting. Even the word capsule sounds like you are stuck in this tiny thing and can't get out, expand, or grow from there or you'll burst.

When I work with clients, I like to replace this wording with creating a foundation for your wardrobe. It feels freer and more solid—something you can have as a base and grow. Every new client I work with aims to create an excellent foundation for your wardrobe. With clients I've worked with for years, it's just maintenance here and there to make sure the pieces still fit their body and lifestyle.

Here are the 5 truths about a 'capsule wardrobe.'

Whether to Try a New Trend OR NOT!11 Oct 202200:22:22

The shock of how different styles are now, how do you know what works for you?

We are in such an interesting time with fashion. In 14 years of being a stylist, the only time I remember something like this happening was with leggings.

I still remember bringing leggings into the fitting room 14 years ago and some clients were like, ‘they are so tight, I don’t know if I’d ever wear them’.

People were switching out of bootcut jeans and this was so new.

Right now in fashion, it’s all about the relaxed look. Relaxed blazers that flow, some people feel it might be frumpy. Or wide leg jeans and pants that take over your body, some clients feel like it’s too overwhelming on them.

The frequent question that has come up lately is, do I actually not like it or is it just so new and it’s something I will end up wearing all the time later.

As a stylist, I explore new styles as well and try new things and it is something that sometimes you question ESPECIALLY if you feel like there is so much newness to what’s out. I know it really feels like this for you if you haven’t really done much shopping in the past few years.

Here are the questions YOU need to start asking yourself to decide whether to try the new trend or leave it behind.

Pieces that Stand the Test of Time26 Sep 202200:28:00

Style Refresh, doors close September 30th https://myclosetedit.com/refresh
Podcast Episode, Setting a Style Goal https://www.buzzsprout.com/1983757/10554652

As time goes on, our bodies, life, and what we like starts to change a bit. It doesn't happen overnight, it's a slow change that first happens within us but it does feel like one day we start waking up to the notion that the pieces we are wearing or trying on somehow don’t work anymore.

There’s a few things that happen when you are going through this shift:

  • You don’t wear the piece of clothing - it sits in your closet no even though you once did identify in it, feel good in it. Now when you wear it, it doesn’t fit where you’re at anymore.
  • It feels dated - it feels like a past you, from a past life, with memories that somehow make it feel like it’s not where you want to be anymore.
  • It doesn’t fit the clothing you DO love - it’s a piece that with the years or months that have gone by, it’s gone to one side because you’ve found new pieces that really identify with you more and it doesn’t fit into the style you are going for or stepping into at this moment.
  • When you try it on, it doesn't feel good - Feel good means it doesn’t make you feel confident, beautiful, sexy or any describing word that identifies most with you or your style statement. If you haven’t learned about style statements and want to dive in deeper, you can listen to the episode link above.
  • It fits your body, but not your style - You put it on and it fits like a glove. It hugs just the right places, sits well, the fabric is wonderful, but it doesn't feel like you. If you were to go to your closet to pick out something to wear, this would be the last thing on your list to get

Listen in to learn more on the pieces that stand the test of time.

I'm all about spending money on the right things, which means making a list of what you need AND don't need this season. You want to be intentional with your purchases to give your style the update and impact you want to achieve this season. Even if you're on a budget, be intentional. Buy the piece that fits well and adds to your outfits to give you more versatility.

Stay focused on a few key pieces you need to update to ensure you spend wisely. I'd rather have you buy something that's not on sale that makes you feel 100% aligned to your style than three things on sale that don't feel quite right.

As you discover what to avoid buying for fall, you'll also notice that specific ways you've worn your outfits have changed too! New styles will transform your outfits and help you update your look.

When I think of the most stylish man I know, I think of my friend Richard. He has a mix of prep and a sharp classic look, but he can also get creative and make an outfit look put together with a mix of colors and prints.

Richard Meharry is a style blogger and has also launched a new business, Le Finale, to help the groomsmen through the wedding process of writing their vows, plan the honeymoon, get dressed, and all the things. To date he has partnered with HGTV, Bentley, Ollie Quinn, Amazon Studios, Indochino, The W Hotel, Timex, Makers Mark, The Four Seasons, J Crew, Gillette, Trident Nordstrom and more. AMAS continually establishes strategic partnerships and raises brand awareness in a meaningful and creative way. His story is about fashion and Richard is a Man About Style.

I am grateful to also call Richard a friend, we’ve gone salsa dancing together, recorded a video about non-gender fashion and had so much fun trying things on in the fitting room, to being together at fashion parties. In this episode, we actually get to record our conversation and you can tell by my voice, just how happy I was to get to catch up with him after months. Initially we were planning to talk more about men’s body insecurities and sharing our stories of styling men in different scenarios. I had just recorded the podcast episode, Moving Through Body Insecurities & Dressing For Ourselves, Not Others, I’ll have the link in the show notes, and ran into Richard at Anthropologie the next day. Of course I invited him to come on the podcast to talk more about men’s insecurities because even the women on my Instagram wanted more details. Both of us work as stylists and hearing his perspective of how he helps his clients through this was so good.

This episode includes:

  • Bachelor and bachelorette party ideas
  • Who dresses the groom for the big day?
  • What is a mans’ #1 body insecurity?
  • Why some men have trouble shopping or finding their style

Without knowing it, you are actually in a cycle of shopping that you might not realize because it’s done out of habit. The average person first is attracted to a color before anything else. We can put that one to the test easily! Is there a color you can think of right now that is taking over your closet? It’s totally true! Mine is beige, I love a good beige, neutral. I love the elegance of it, how it looks against my skin color and I can pair it with all pinks, blacks, whites and lavenders in my closet.

Depending on how much of that color you have in your closet, now that you’re aware of this, you might want to go towards finding other colors to add to your wardrobe. Knowing our shopping patterns is so helpful in the process of finding what you need to purchase.

If you are stuck in a shopping pattern, you get stuck in a style that doesn’t serve you anymore. Once you’re aware of your shopping pattern, you can try something different or catch yourself when you’re about to fall into the pattern again.

Who do you WANT to be?27 Aug 202200:30:23

FREE webinar The Proven Way to Shop with Success: https://my.demio.com/ref/r47iGzGQlbRMN384

Before getting into a blissful state of joy. There’s a big thing you need to do. You need to know, who do you want to be? I know it might seem like an obvious question but maybe it’s not. Maybe you’ve been going about your routine everyday not stopping to really think about, is the person I want to be eating the way I eat or interacting with the people I’m interacting with or spending my evenings the way I do.

This is one of my favorite exercises because it creates pretty much instant results when you start changing up the things you want to do differently in your life. You’ll actually feel like you have the power to shift how things are going in your day-to-day, how you feel, how you see yourself.

It’s like a journaled out vision board of yourself in the present. All the ways that you see this person you want to be, you are, and you can start acting in a way that reflects this.

Wine, Women, and Wills24 Aug 202200:41:49

The Proven Method to Shop with Success FREE Webinar: https://my.demio.com/ref/r47iGzGQlbRMN384

It took having my daughter Noelani for me to even think about the future of my money, what would happen to her, or even my business if I was gone. Yea, tough stuff but that uncomfortable decision making and thought process is important.

On Facebook, I saw an ad pop up for Wine, Women, and Wills and I was all in! What a fun way to talk about wills by making it somewhat of a networking event. It was my first event after COVID in a public setting and the turnout was insane. The wine room was literally filled with women who were all interested in learning more about the basics of putting together a will and what questions we need to ask ourselves.

How to Let Go of Relationships with Shari Leid03 Aug 202200:37:49

Learn to shop for clothing that you LOVE wearing: https://myclosetedit.com/refresh

Those moments where we question ourselves is the time to start evaluating what changes we need to make in our relationships or within ourselves. Shari Leid is a certified life coach and author of, Make your Mess Your Message and the 50/50 Friendship Flow. We crossed paths without her even knowing! On a girls night out with two of my best friends, we were talking about the books we were currently reading and have inspired us recently and Vivian mentioned Shari’s book, Make your Mess Your Message. When she shared about how Shari had interviewed 50 friends to share each one of their messages in each chapter, I knew I had to meet her.

I’m drawn to deep, meaningful conversations. Shari continues to help others on their path to find joy in their friendships, lives, and family, with her coaching practice, an imperfectly perfect life.

On Shari’s website it says “I help you see how past messages may no longer be working for you, how obstacles are opportunities in disguise, and I help you let go of the fears of the future and the restraints of the past.”

As a stylist I’m  constantly working with people evolving and learning more about who they are. its important for me to guide  them in clearly seeing themselves in the present and their future, rather than being stuck in who they used to be or how they used to look.

In this conversation we talk about:

-how to let go of past relationships

-how do you know it’s time for change

-ideas to reignite joy

-overcoming the fear of change

Moving Through Body Insecurities & Dressing For Ourselves, Not Others01 Aug 202200:28:53

Join the waitlist for Style Refresh at https://exciting-author-320.ck.page/b...

Have you felt self-conscious about your body? Like everyone can see all your insecurities? It's totally common and as a stylist, I work with clients daily on dressing for their body. Yesterday, I worked with a couple that realized they needed new clothes. They were getting ready to pack for their 10 year anniversary trip and found that their closet didn’t have anything new or exciting that really fit them anymore.  In the process of shopping for each of them, they opened up about what they felt uncomfortable with. There is nothing more

In this episode I unpack the big topics we talked about in our styling session yesterday including:

  1. Men’s body and insecurities - I mean, this is a very important topic. It’s never really talked about, a lot of the focus is on women but men have insecurities too. They are less vocal about it but working with men, I get to hear all the things and also have to work through finding pieces that fit their body well.
  2. What we might find uncomfortable, might actually be an asset - In this case it’s not about clothing that is uncomfortable, but parts of ourselves we are uncomfortable with. Changing your story about your body and identifying new ways to see yourself are helpful.
  3. No ones looking - This isn’t to say that the way we feel in something doesn’t count because it definitely does! If a piece of clothing feels too tight, or doesn’t lay right on your body, you will be fidgeting and thinking about it the whole time you have it on. But there is something to keep in mind when shopping or trying on clothes. It’s not for other people, it’s for you.

I want you to walk into a room and feel lit up, to share your gifts with the world.

Your Body Isn't The Problem25 Jun 202200:23:31

How do you dress your body when you feel like nothing fits right? You feel like your legs are too short, your waist is too wide, your arms are too big, and your butt is too small. Seriously, I’ve heard it all from both men and women when it comes to body image.

When clothing doesn’t fit right we blame our bodies for being the problem when it’s really the clothing options that are the problem.

Styling for the Seasons of Your Life24 May 202200:26:23

Do you ever stop to think about how far you’ve come in your life? I don’t think we always give ourselves credit for everything we’ve  accomplished or where you’ve been.

When I look around my home, my closet. I see a story of who I am now, when I look at photos in my past I know and understand that they are glimpses of me at that moment, always doing the best I could.

Give yourself grace as you move into new parts of your life. If you are in a season of making big changes for the better, remember that where you’ve been plays a role in how you were dressing and why. It’s a great way to see why it is you are wanting to change your style and move in a new direction

Big Life events that change your style:

  1. New Job
  2. The amount of money you make
  3. Changes in your body
  4. Dating again
  5. Life after having kids

Are you a high-achiever who’s doing all the right things in dating, yet nothing is clicking? In this heartfelt and eye-opening episode of Make It You, I am joined by dating coach Emily Freeman to unpack why real connection can’t be strategized and why your need to “get it right” might actually be keeping love at arm’s length.

This conversation is for you if dating feels more like a checklist than a connection. Emily shares how embracing vulnerability, balancing masculine and feminine energy, and even your personal style can shift you from performative dating to a powerful, magnetic connection.

🎙️ In this episode, we explore:

 • Why real connection is energetic, not transactional

 • The difference between “nice guys” and “good guys”

 • How attraction can grow over time (and why that second date matters)

 • How your style signals self-worth and attracts aligned partners

 • Emily’s personal story of finding love while building her coaching practice

Whether you're just re-entering the dating world or ready to find something deeper and more aligned, this episode is your invitation to stop performing and start connecting authentically.

Can I Change My Style Without Changing Me?21 Jul 202500:12:02

When you’re evolving your style, it can bring up a surprising fear: What if I lose who I am in the process?

In this episode, I share a story from a recent client session that dives into this very question—and how we found a way to elevate his wardrobe without dimming his personality.

We explore:

  • What it really means to evolve your style without losing your identity
  • Why bold or expressive style doesn't need to be toned down to be “appropriate”
  • How to build a cohesive wardrobe that reflects your personality and fits your lifestyle
  • The power of asking yourself: How do I want to show up in the world?
  • Why working with the right stylist can bring clarity, confidence, and joy to your closet

If you’re ready to feel more like you in your clothes, and less like you're dressing for everyone else, this episode is for you.

What Are You Putting Off? (And What’s It Costing You)07 Jul 202500:20:34

We’ve all been there—avoiding that one thing on our to-do list that feels overwhelming but could actually move the needle in our personal or professional life. In this episode, I share two personal stories: one about a task I delayed that ended up taking just 30 minutes, and another about carving out space for rest and creativity, and how that led to clarity in my work.

Whether it’s scheduling time for yourself, hiring a stylist, or finally cleaning out your closet, sometimes the resistance is just fear in disguise. I’ll walk you through the common excuses I hear (and have made myself!), like waiting to lose weight before investing in clothes or putting things off for a “less busy season.”

This is your reminder that done is better than perfect—and the other side of procrastination is usually freedom, clarity, and progress.

We also talk about:

  • Why waiting for the “right time” rarely works
  • How creativity is connected to space and self-care
  • Common hurdles around hiring a personal stylist
  • How our styling services are built for real life (aka, your busy schedule)
  • An inside look at our new program, Style Insider

How Working with a Personal Stylist Changed My Life | Real Client Story07 Apr 202500:09:14

She Had a Closet Full of Clothes—But Nothing That Felt Like Her 👗✨

In this powerful episode, I sit down with my amazing client Jennifer, a high-level hospital executive who's making a huge impact in her community. With a packed schedule and a leadership role, Jennifer needed a wardrobe that reflected her authority, confidence, and evolving personal style.

When we first looked at her closet, it was full—but not aligned with the woman she is today. She was stuck in a pattern of wearing similar pieces in different colors, dressing more for her past roles than the powerful leader she’s become.

Together, we transformed her wardrobe to match the next chapter of her life—streamlined, polished, and authentically her.

If you’ve ever felt like your wardrobe doesn’t reflect your growth or the woman you’re becoming, this conversation will inspire you to take the next step.

Let me know whether you can relate to Jennifer's experience! XO, Tannya❤️
