Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 14 “Innocence” is an emotional powerhouse of an episode. We didn’t remember this show getting THIS good THIS early, but here we are! Ketryn cried, and Arik had to dissociate at times just to get survive it. Giles and Jenny ‘s SECOND honeymoon phase comes to a rocky end, Buffy wishes she had a do-over, and we finally meet Season Two’s “Big Bad!”

Why is Oz just the best guy? 

Why is the Judge always so chilly? 

Why are the gaslighting and emotional abuse in this episode so realistically written?

The eggs may be bad in Buffy the Vampire Season 2 Episode 12, but everything else was great! This was a really fun, tightly written installment. Cordelia and Xander get hot and bothered (though not necessarily in that order), Buffy follows in Joyce’s footsteps, and those Gulch Brothers sure are a couple of bad eggs!

The best way we can sum this one up is: Hook, Line, and STINKER!

This filler episode (or should we say "fillet" episode!  hey-o!) never quite reeled us in. A lot of tone deaf joking about SA, and underwhelming fights, and a general lack of urgency & danger made this one feel a little fishy.

Oz has apparently been written off the show at this point, Buffy and Angel don't even acknowledge their last emotionally devastating encounter, and everyone feels bored now — but not in the fun, sociopathic, skinning-a-villain-alive sort of way.

With only two more episodes left this season, it's baffling they chose to put this dead fish story so close to the climax.

On the plus side: Xander in a Speedo, Wentworth Miller, Buffy gets to beat up a would-be grapist.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 19 “I Only Have Eyes For You” is a strange one — there is little evidence from their scenes that Xander and Cordy are dating (Xander asking Buffy if she has visions about him "knowing the love of a woman"!?), and the complete lack of Oz is starting to get distracting.

But... what started out as a lightweight, monster-of-the-week episode with an uneven tone (imagine an episode of Goosebumps that happened to include disturbing gun violence and self-unaliving... as well as an O.J. Simpson joke!!!) wound up being one of the most moving, brilliantly written episodes of the season. Did NOT see that coming!

Ironically, this filler episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn't very filling. While we were grateful for a break from the emotional devastation of last week's episode, this Monster-of-the-Week installment (featuring a Temu version of Freddy Krueger) lacked a lot of the charm we've come to expect from Season 2 of Buffy.

Buffy Season Two keeps doling out the heartbreak in episode 17 "Passion." We agree on the brilliant plotting and emotional devastation of this one. We are divided on Angel's slam poetry.

Had to do something a little different for this episode — our first virtual recording with us not in the same room! Arik is in Wrexham, Wales, and Ketryn is in her Apothecary (about 20 steps from our usual set) in Glendale, California. But no mere ocean can disrupt our chemistry!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer S2E16 “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” encapsulates so much of what the series is: brilliant storytelling, memorable performances, quippy, stylized dialogue, great fights, thematic depth… but at the same time, toxic masculinity and entitlement played for laughs (and met with zero consequences) and perspectives that have NOT aged well. 

Cordy dumps Xander on Valetine’s Day and – in true Xander form – he makes it everyone else’s problem, Amy’s gone into the family business, and Spike and Angel get glam makeovers.

We definitely needed mild, silly, monster-of-the-week episode to recover from last week's emotional roller coaster, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 Episode 15 "Phases" was... a mixed bag. 

The "good": 

• The exploration of the theme of duality, and the culpability of the human for the actions of the monster they become. 

• Willow & Oz's chemistry. 

The "less-so": 

• The ham-fisted faux-feminist "hot takes" that want to sound profound without having anything to say. 

• Reducing Willow to a verbal tick that gets run into the ground, dialogue-wise. 

• That wolf costume (yikes!) 

• Some of the lamest fight scenes we've had on the show so far.
