Lured Up Podcast 358 Live Streamed on - 8/12/25 Publish Date - 8/15/25 With less than two weeks until the GO Fest Max Finale, the event calendar will not be giving anyone a calm before the storm. It’s time to start strategizing on how to best prepare for the lead up to Eternatus. From item and storage maintenance, to banking consumable items, it is in your best interest to start thinking about how you want to approach the event. The Dark Skies rollout of Max Battles should help you focus on what you want, and we know the community wants to get after Eternamax Eternatus. The recap kicks off with Cozy Companions and Munchlax Hatch Day, which worked well at bringing together catching, grinding, and hatching. The six hour window took some pressure off and gave Trainers time to put in some kilometers. The rates for Shiny Munchlax were strong, so the event was generally well received. Sunday’s Ultra Unlock: Origin Raid Day however, was the opposite. Early reports from New Zealand came through saying that the Shiny Rate wasn’t boosted, with some Trainers throwing up triple digit Raid counts and walking away without a single Shiny. For us in the US, we typically don’t worry about things that break early, as they tend to get fixed well before the Eastern Time Zone. Niantic Help put out a tweet stating that they have identified an issue regarding the Shiny rate during the event, but they unfortunately didn’t mention anything about fixing it. The broken Shiny rate put a damper on enthusiasm and absolutely cut many Trainer’s days short. What would have been the perfect six hour grind, quickly turned into scorned pockets of resentful Trainers. The Tweet stated that compensation was coming, but the conversation moved to what and how it would work. Trainers had already invested significant time and in some cases a lot of money into the event, so a makeup day would just mean they would have to reinvest. A packed calendar makes it hard to even fit another 6 hour event in. Could this come in Timed Research based on how many Raids you won? Time will tell! We see the return of 6 hour daily events on top of an already hectic and unrelenting calendar throughout the month. With Max Finale being the highlight, the rest of the month keeps the momentum going strong, and offers a bit of everything. That being said, when is too much, too much? Our weekly recap touches on Adventure Week, Fossil Research Day, and Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day. Sweet Storm brings us some fun Timed Research and Cozy Companions brings us two new dex entries and a new Shiny to chase. This weekend has 12 hours of reservation events happening while Cozy Companions looms over them, and tickets and Timed Research is packed in the shop. We truly hope you can sustain the mayhem! THis weekend gives some diverse gameplay with Munchlax Hatch Day, where the 5 hour window seems to make good sense, while Origin Raid Day, will keep us reaching into our pockets if we want to make the most of the event. With Scopely in the hot seat, the new monetization strategy isn’t about the microtransactions and pop ups that we previously feared, but instead about an incredible amount of rotating, time sensitive products in the store that can drastically improve the playability of nearly every event. We put together a little Raid Guide and Battle Party for Origin Forme Palkia and Dialga, which depending on your group’s numbers, may lend itself to some diverse and unique Battle Parties. While it will be easy to pack your party filled with Rayquaza, we encourage you instead to get creative and bring out some Pokémon that may not have seen the Raid arena yet. Make sure to tag us on Social with your parties or send us an email or text! After the break we did in to next season’s save the date post, which includes an incredible amount of Raid Days. As mentioned earlier in the show, I think we all may need to adjust to Scopely’s new normal, and either break the stigma of spending on digital goods or learn to have some restraint without triggering FOMO. Lured Up Podcast 348: Coming Together Live Streamed on - 5/28/25 Publish Date - 5/31/25 With a Shadow Raid Day and a GMAX Battle Day behind us, we share our feelings behind the impact that Remote Raid Passes have had on our IRL Communities. While Ken’s heart is still firmly with the IRL crowd, he was pleased to share that the impact felt from remoters was positive all around. Adam however, is still down on the mechanic, feeling like the magic and exclusivity that Max Battles brought to the game has been ripped away from us. This will be an ongoing topic, and we are eager to hear what everyone thinks. GO Fest Osaka is this weekend and it brought 100 person lobbies for GMAX Rillaboom! It is easy to go big at an event like that, so it will be interesting to see how Rillaboom lobbies do as part of the Serene Retreat event that the rest of the world has. It may actually be tougher because the GMAX Battles are spread out over the weekend. Let us know how you do! There are a few small bits of news to cover like new Masuda music coming to the game for GO Fest, the return of the Regis to Raids, and Jangmo-o being selected as our June Community Day Pokémon. Niantic Spatial has also officially branched off as the Scopely deal is now complete. Recon will be their new mapping mechanic and as far as we can see, all the criteria for Ingress submissions will stay the same. We are wondering if many PGO Trainers that played Ingress will be hanging up the game for good. Finally we dig into our GO Fest: Jersey City plans, as we have an incredibly packed weekend ahead of us. Lured Up Podcast 347 Live Streamed on - 5/22/25 Publish Date - 5/27/25 We are officially on the Road to GO Fest and while event news is steadily flowing in, the event calendar continues to be packed week in, week out. We have events filling the weeks, multiple events over the weekend, and longer, overarching Research that has been carrying the narrative for a few weeks. There is officially no calm before the storm. We start out with a weekly recap of gameplay including Crown Clash:Taken Over, Shadow Regigigas Raid Day, and the kick off of Final Strike: GO Battle Week. There has been plenty to do and Trainers have been given a diverse menu of gameplay options to choose from.  This week brought us some really great quality of life items. First, the RSVP Planner is now live and is a great coordination tool for both in-person and remote Raids. We encourage everyone to give it a shot, simply because the only way this tool will be successful is if people are using it. We think this could make a big difference on the ground during events like Community Days. Next was the GO Fest: Jersey City Premier Access, which came and went in less than a day. Those that were able to snag it got some of the best deals ever on in-game consumables along with some great Jersey City perks like lockers and private bathrooms. The event calendar is continuing to be packed with things to do, including some Summer Merriment companion events that will be happening over the IRL GO Fest weekends. THree weeks of diverse event gameplay and new GMAX Battles will keep EVERYONE super busy and out on the gameboard. Definitely no calm before the storm here. Finally we take a look at the Save the Dates for next season and the incredible Road Trip Event that is coming to Europe. We will need to follow along with our English friends from the Incensed! First off was last week’s Mythic Blade Event which had people upset about the $7.99 pricetag which felt like a direct purchase of Keldeo. WIth some not so great items and an anti climactic Keldeo catch sequence, the event left a lot to be desired.    This is a significant juxtaposition to how the Community has come together this week to track down the 18 different forms of Vivillon! We are seeing levels of Community interaction that hasn’t been seen since the launch of Remote Raids a few years ago. We do question how long this vibe will sustain itself, as well as how Niantic will continue to make Vivillon an available Pokémon.    We cover a few smaller topics like the unique Pokémon Festival Event in Jakarta, the different sizes available to a few additional Pokémon and the fact that Pokéminers will be cutting back a bit on their efforts.   There still is plenty of news to cover however with Community Day this weekend as well as Part 1 of the Holiday Event. We start off with our weekly recap of gameplay covering the Growing Up event and how egg events can take the wind out of wild encounter sails. It almost seemed that if you weren’t laser focused on hatching Mime Jr, that there wasn’t too much going on. Luckily, Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day brought the Community Out to chase a regional, giving new Trainers a taste of the Australian Pokémon. This weekend will be a triple threat, with the start of Crown Clash which overlaps with DMAX Suicune Max Battle Weekend AND Pawmi Community Day. There will be plenty of gameplay to be had, and Trainers that stack their items and prioritize their time in-game will surely benefit. Community Day is the perfect environment to play with a group, stack up consumables like Lucky Eggs, Incense, and Star Pieces, and if you’re lucky, be on a gameboard that is Lured Up. Best of luck to the Trainers that will be out there looking to maximize the stacked events. May is absolutely stacked as we won’t be getting any slowdown before GO Fest. The calender is filled with events throughout the week and weekends for the entire month. We break down the latest event announcements, and start to get hyped for GMAX Machamp, which will be a major draw for most IRL communities. That is however, if they don’t decide to stay home to play. With this week’s shift to support remote gameplay, major concerns have been voiced by some, while others are celebrating. It is too early to know what impact this decision will really have on the game, as Community Ambassadors and Leaders are feeling the squeeze of a new potential threat. After having a rocky launch of Elite Raids, the Zorua Spotlight Hour Surprise crashed and burned by the time it made it out of New Zealand. Lured Up Podcast 238 Record Date - 10/19/2022 Publish Date - 10/23/2022   We have another packed show this week having a consistent drip feed of event information released over the last week. This is on top of a busy week of gameplay as the Festival of Lights wrapped up and Elite Raids were launched. We had a bit of everything this week.   While Elite Raids looked like an amazing idea on paper, unfortunately their release did not go smoothly in-game. From overloads of locked out gyms, the overlap of Community Day, and technical issues, the Elite Raid launch felt rushed and not thought out. Luckily, the Community is so in favor of the feature that they were pretty level headed and constructive with their feedback. We will sift through some of the best comments we saw.   The Halloween Event is packed with things to do however another bad batch of boxes may keep Trainer activity low. With a huge drop off from the 2021 Halloween boxes, even with Shiny Noibat being locked to 7km eggs, we may not see too many Trainers jumping into the mix this time around.   Finally we run through the upcoming Dia De Muertos event that will be rolling into November. Lured Up Podcast 237 Record Date - 10/11/2022 Publish Date - 10/14/2022   As the Evolving Stars event wraps up, many Trainers seem to be relieved as this event didn’t bring too much excitement. While Xerneas was a fun chase, we still have time to hunt it, but the spawns were pretty lack luster. We have a few days of vanilla spawns and then the Festival of Lights comes in, which looks to be a bit better in the Pokémon department.   While Litwick Community Day overlaps with the Festival of Lights, unfortunately the bonuses won’t integrate or stack so we miss out on a potential rock star day of playing. Either way, 3x XP is always fun and a great shiny should bring the Trainers out to play.   The latest Wayfarer Twitter Challenge wraps up this week and we have made our submission! With Wayfarer exclusive rewards, this is a really fun way to promote the tool. Our Wayfarer channels in Discord have been exceptionally active, and the gameboard is getting better every day!   We dig into the 0.251.0 APK mine as there are some really good nuggets to be found. From Halloween themed visuals to new moves and size data, the game seems to be getting more and more refined with each update.    Finally, we gently Poke The Bear with a conversation about the narrative of Pokémon GO and how it seems to always fly under the radar. With a double stacked Vanillite Community Day and DMAX Entei Max Battle Weekend, the pacing continues to keep our calendars packed.  Five more events will hit the game in the next 2 weeks, and that isn’t including any of the Weekday hourly events. With a mix of Battle Days, Community Days, and longer events, we will be hard pressed to find time to capture it all. We wonder if this pacing is becoming a play when you can loop rather than play everything. The volume is giving many Trainers a challenge to keep up. The GO Pass will continue to be tested in certain parts of the world while the Power Up Ticket will be made available for everyone to purchase. We bring up the topic of wanting a catch all monthly investment in PGO that would power gameplay for the entire month. It feels like the month long tickets we currently have are more additive than a replacement for current spending. What if you could pay $50 a month and get a recurring weekly drop of items that would meet your gameplay needs? After a few days of vanilla spawns, an Inkay Limited Research and our normal weekly rotations, we have a pretty good feel for the Season. So far it has been overwhelmingly positive, even though the boxes in the shop may make us ill.   Clefairy Commotion is this weekend and we still don’t know what to expect. It just seems like something else is coming, but we can’t figure it out. We will have to see if Trainers feel the burn of its removal, as it has become a nice boost over the last few events. We are definitely missing our trip to Seattle but the game has done a great job keeping the momentum going. The Hisuian Adventures Event was a good one, especially with the Ultra Unlock bonuses. We recap our experiences including a trip to NYC to hook up with some friends and creators.   GO Fest in Sapporo will be happening this weekend and most Trainers, even if they have the means to travel, are unable to attend due to Japan’s travel restrictions. We will have to watch from the sidelines and root them on from home! A Safari Zone in Taiwan was also announced for October, which will also have restrictions to travel in place. We also touch on some political news which may impact the event as well.   The big news of the week was the announcement of the Bug Out Event. This event is a fan favorite and has the potential to be powered up by the Ultra Unlock Bonus from GO Fest: Sapporo. The announcement also reveals that Shiny Venipede, Mega Scizor, and Genesect with a Chill Drive will be released. We put together a Raid Guide and Battle Party to get you prepared for Mega Scizor, as it will be a great addition to any Mega roster.   We dig in to the Community Ambassador Program and how it can be perceived to have major barriers to entry as it requires Silph integration. The launch of COmmunity Cards makes it easier to track and work towards meeting the requirements, but is it still to overwhelming for the masses? Lured Up Podcast 344 Live Streamed on - 4/23/25 Publish Date - 4/25/25 The last week of gameplay had some ups and downs! The Horizons Event was a ton of fun, combining a great encounter pool with fun costumed Pokémon. The Shiny chase kept Trainers engaged in the wild, while some focused on hatching Tinkatink from 7 km eggs. The positive sentiment around the Horizons Event was dulled a bit however, by a GMAX Snorlax Max Battle Day that had significant issues during the catch phase. With wonky throw physics and catch circle, Trainers had a lot of Snorlax run on them, and it felt pretty bad. Adam is clearly excited over Sweet Discoveries, which for him may as well just be a Delibird event. It’s really all about the Apples, which bring in a new mechanic and evolution currency. Early feedback is that apples in the wild are exceptionally rare, so Mossy Lures are definitely the play for those on the Applin grind. This could be a really cool mechanic that could be repurposed a few different ways to improve on immersion and maybe even some persistent gameplay between Trainers. There are plenty of events already announced leading into May, and the advanced notice is definitely welcomed. With the high demands that this game makes on Trainer’s schedules, knowing what is coming up is very important to prioritizing gameplay time. Growing Up, Crown Clash, and DMAX Suicune are all on the table for May, and we are sure there is even more in store. Our open discussion this week is once again about Wayfarer, with the Global Challenge coming to an early end, it really seems like Niantic Spatial is ready for the split. With reviewers outpacing the nominations, there was a pretty significant breakdown in the process. Wayfinders were faced with long load times and plenty of refreshing to get reviews to populate. Ending the challenge early left some in a position to not hit their goals (even though the reward thresholds were lowered). We did see some great transparency from Tintino, but this left the forums in a state that was rocky at best.
