A Prayer For Discipling Our Children30 Aug 202400:06:21

Discipling our kids is important... and it can feel totally overwhelming.

When something really matters, it's easy to start worrying about it. Stressing about it. Sometimes we feel paralyzed by how big it feels, and wind up not doing very much at all.

Thankfully, God is bigger! He is the One who tells us how important it is to love him, follow him, and share about him with others. He gave us our children, and gave us the calling to teach them about the gospel and show them what a relationship with Jesus looks like. He promises to give us wisdom (James 1:5), to give us the right words (Luke 12:12), and to be with us always (Matthew 28:20).

So, join me today for a short prayer for our sweet kiddos. Let's pray together for our words, for their faith, and for the Lord to bless every discipleship effort in our homes.

hugs & blessings,

Jess

Rhythms & Routines: Intentionally Discipling Our Children27 Aug 202400:19:55

Episode 207 // There are a lot of things that feel important as a parent. Things that really are important! But as Christian parents, there is one true priority in our parenting - discipling our kids.

“Bring [your children] up in the training and instruction of the Lord,” Ephesians 6 tells us. “Impress [my commandments] on your children,” Deuteronomy 6 tells parents.

But life is busy! The days are full! Kids have tiny little attention spans! How do we do it??

Today, I want to share 5 things that my husband and I prioritize in our daily rhythms to ensure that discipling our kids is a priority. It might be loud and crazy, and it rarely looks like the perfect picture in my head, but it’s happening. And it matters.

Join me today for some encouragement in parenting your sweet little ones for the glory of Christ!

hugs & blessings,

Jess

One of the quickest places where moms get stuck in the problem-solving process is in the step of brainstorming ideas for what to do differently.

No matter what problem you might be facing, these ideas will be helpful. And they’re really just a jumping off point!

Grab my free e-book for deeper help in problem-solving the things that are getting in the way of building healthy family relationships. You’ll get lots of support there with brainstorming (and really, with the whole process). But today, let’s get a few quick ideas out there.

(F3) What is Christian forgiveness? The Connection Between Humility, Wisdom, And Admitting When You’re Wrong19 May 202300:13:54

Episode 118.5 // Friday Faith Followup

One of the hardest things about faith is understanding (and then living out!) Christian forgiveness. It takes so much humility, courage, and godly strength to forgive others!

Apologizing to your husband and your kids is not easy work. It requires you to set aside your pride, admit when you’re wrong, and seek restoration.

None of us can apologize or forgive well if we are not growing in humility. And when our feelings are hurt or we are fuming about something that happened, it takes wisdom to step back and work toward resolution.

These are important topics, and we all need some encouragement in how we handle apologies and forgiveness in our homes. So join me today for a look at how humility, wisdom, and courage play a role in this important aspect of Christian family life.

Let’s dive in.

hugs & blessings,

Jess

(F3) Find Encouragement In 3 Biblical Examples Of Jesus Keeping A Positive Attitude In Really Difficult Situations12 May 202300:21:00

Episode 117.5 // Friday Faith Follow-up

We struggle with our thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and interactions. They aren’t always as positive and godly as we want.

So to get a little perspective, let’s flip open our Bibles and take a look at 3 examples from the life of Jesus. Examples of times when he faced really difficult, painful, emotional situations… and dealt with it in a positive and godly way.

Of course, we’ll never handle things perfectly. Only Jesus was tempted and never sinned! We are tempted and try to sin less and less. As we try to become more and more Christ-like, looking at his example helps us get ideas for how to handle the realities of our lives in more God-honoring ways.

(F3) The Daily Habit of Loving God Well… Keep A Right Perspective With This Devotional In Psalm 9005 May 202300:17:03

Episode 116.5 // Friday Faith Followup

One of your best daily habits as a Christian mom is building a habit of prayer.

Prayer will take you into the Lord’s presence, and invite him to take charge - our Lord who is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-good, and always faithful.

You see, it’s basically impossible to hold onto a positive attitude during hard and frustrating moments of your day… UNLESS you had a right perspective on God.

Who is He? What is his character like? How does He act toward us, and what’s the impact on our daily lives?

Well, friend, join me for a devotional today through Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90. As we build a right perspective on God, we’ll find it much easier to hold onto a Christian mindset and positive attitude in our day-to-day family life.

hugs & blessings,

Jess

(F3) Why “I’ll Pray For You” Is A Powerful Thing13 Jan 202300:11:15

Episode 112.5 // Friday Faith Followup

How often have you heard people say “I’ll pray for you”? Yes, there are prayer warriors who genuinely go home and put your situation on their prayer list and they take it before the Lord regularly. But is that the norm?

Is that how we really pray for each other? Or is your experience more like mine… that “I’ll pray for you” is just a cliche way to end a conversation, at best followed up with a quick prayer later on when you actually remember what was said.

As we’ve looked at this week, prayer is powerful. Prayer is action. Prayer matters. And so today, let’s challenge each other to be more genuine in how we pray for others. Let’s encourage each other to deepen this area of our lives, for our good and the good of others.

(F3) What does it really mean that my life is now hidden with Christ in God?16 Dec 202200:14:10

Episode 108.5 // Friday Faith Followup

My friend, emotions are tough. Raising little ones is tough. Living in this broken world is tough! And we talked this week already about how God’s Word, his Holy Spirit, and his wisdom can love our people well while managing hard emotions.

We looked briefly at Colossians 3, but today I want to dive deeper. The verses we talked about can be a bit mysterious! Even if it’s clear enough what it means to set your heart and mind on the things above, what does it really mean that our lives are “hidden with Christ in God”?

And what the heck does that mean for our emotional regulation, our anger management, or how we interact with our family?

Great questions. Let’s dive a little deeper into these verses together today.

hugs & blessings,

Jess

10 simple ways to keep Jesus, family time, and gratitude at the center of your holiday season29 Nov 202200:35:49

Episode 106 // The holidays are great… but they are often so busy! And it’s way too easy to get distracted from the important things that you want your family time to focus on for Christmas.

Maybe you’re distracted by the presents, maybe it’s all the extra parties and gatherings, or maybe it’s simply a busier to-do list. Whatever it is, let me encourage you today to set it aside. Refocus. Be realistic, and make time for what is actually most important for you as a Christian mom.

If you’re anything like me, those most important things include Jesus, family time, and gratitude. So today, I’m offering 10 simple tips for how to keep these things at the center of your family’s holiday season. Don’t spend a lot of money, don’t spend a lot of time, but DO be intentional with the time and money that God’s given you.

[Bonus FFF] Do you live as if you’re truly thankful for Jesus? Let’s look at Luke 7.27 Nov 202200:10:32

The holiday season has a lot of focus on gratitude... but a lot of focus as well on wish lists, good sales, and all the stuff.

Is there a gap there?

Maybe culturally, sure. But what about in your own heart?

I know there's a gap in my heart. I've been challenged this week by a passage in Luke 7, as I consider my own heart of gratitude and how I live out the love that I've received.

Join me, friend, for a look at this passage and a biblical encouragement (and challenge!) that every Christian mom needs.

(F3) Caring for yourself as a busy Christian mom living in a broken world11 Nov 202200:14:31

Episode 104.5 // Friday Faith Followup

It can sometimes be a lot easier to pour our love, energy, and effort into our kids rather than taking time to care for ourselves. Parenting is work! It calls us to step up and put our children’s needs above our own.

But parenting is hard. Life can be discouraging. And as we seek to be biblically grounded parents, teaching our children how to follow Jesus (along with everything else!) we can struggle with the weight of the brokenness in the world.

We cannot love our children well without making the effort to take care of ourselves first. Let’s consider together why that matters, how we can do it, and find encouragement in the One we are serving along the way.

Jess
