This week we have some very exciting news to share coming out of RDub Studios.  To help with this news, we invited Amp'd and Bacon to join us.  So the big news is that we have launched a second show!  It's going to be hosted by Bacon, Amp'd, and Jon.  The show is called MotoNobodies and will be a chat about the MotoNobodies meet-ups and the daily chats within the group.  The MotoNobodies group started back in 2016 and have been talking and meeting up since then.  The plan is also to bring in other MotoNobodies members to share in the chat.  You can find the podcast on iTunes, Podcast Addict, and your favorite podcast player.  Check out the website at www.motonobodies.com for links to social media and other information about the podcast.

Tonight Rich and Rico get the latest news from Jon on his past weekend trip with the Moto Amino Dragon Krew.  Jon took a little adventure and rode down to Key West, Florida.  On the ride down the plan was to complete the saddle sore 1000 Iron Butt Challenge.  This challenge is to complete 1000 miles in 24 hours or less.  There was a small delay in getting out of North Carolina as DaRula's chain broke while running about 70 mph on I-85 just south of Charlotte, NC. To answer the question - yes everyone doing the saddle sore did complete it, in fact they did 1119 miles in 22 1/4 hours!

After arriving at the hotel at 1:30 AM - back on the road by 9:30 AM to finish the ride to Key West, FL.  Did a little sightseeing and then headed back north and planning to stay at OIFVET22's house south west of Jacksonville, FL.  Before getting back to the mainland of Florida, Jon followed a recommendation from brother Zyon to stop for dinner at Hobo Cafe in Key Largo, FL.  Highly recommend the place if you are in the area.

The Dragon Krew didn't arrive until 5 AM.  After a little sleep and home cooked meal they were back on the road around 12:30 pm and Irish's brother-in-law escorted the Krew out of state.  Jon arrives home around 11:30 pm, but there was a small adventure with an NC state trooper.

#1, your gear is your primary setup for climate control, get something as comfortable as possible, and minimize gear that is distracting.

• Ride your ride, no need to keep up with advanced riders beyond your skill level

Find a helmet that FITS properly!

• Recommend a full face, but that’s your decision

Boots

• Over the ankle, sturdy, perhaps leather, sneakers need not apply, flip flops, your an idiot

Gloves

• Good place to spend some money for quality and comfort, remember climate control..
• Three finger gloves for Bacon ;)

Jacket

• Leather or Nylon, consider changing weather needs and rain options

Pants

• recommend riding jeans with full kevlar or motorcycle specific riding pants

We want to help out new and returning riders and give our input on what should be some of your first steps.  With Jon on the Moto Amino app and hanging with the Dragon Krew, he meets Irishman.  Irishman is a 23-year motorcycle veteran with well over 300k on sport and cruiser bikes.  Then on top of that, he was a full-time MSF instructor while stationed in Japan and still fills in at Nash and Franklin County community colleges.  We also want to thank Irishman for his service to our country as he served in the Marines for 15 years.  We are once again happy to have KP Moto join us as well to provide his input as a young rider.

Where to start:

• Take a training class - if you are new it's a great way to see if you like riding with out buying a bike. 
  • MSF at community colleges
  • Rider Edge at local Harley-Davison dealerships
  • Learn from a friend
  • Watch videos online.
• If you are returning rider, we recommend taking a training class to refresh you.  This was submitted by one of our Riders of Loud Pipes Chad.  Good idea for all riders to get a refresher course from time to time.

This week kicks off with an announcement of our new rider series.  At least four episodes dedicated to helping new and returning riders get into motorcycling.  Jon is pulled into the conversation on his Spyder so that we can all get a proper update on all the sadness. 

NEW RIDER SERIES

We are starting a mini-series, that eventually will be put together as a reference episode.  The idea is, let’s do our part for the motorcycle community and help to foster new riders

We celebrate our three year anniversary with episode 100, recorded at the Thirsty Nomad Brewing Company in Charlotte, NC.  Big thanks to all that rode out with us in person, Mike and Micah from the Riders of Loud Pipes!  Shannon (Apersv) and Tracy who Jon met through Moto Amino, round out the crew at the brewery.

Spend My Money:

• New segment where we'll take a scenario that we create or from listeners.  We'll weigh all the requirements and provide one new and one used option for each of us on the show.  So a minimum of two bikes (assuming we all pick the same) and a maximum of six bikes to choose from.
• Requirements we need: budget, riding style, solo or two up frequency, any other preferences, any must avoids, and as much detail as you want to provide. 
• First up, someone that may sound familiar to listeners:
  • Early 40's rider with nearly 20 years experience, started on a KLR650 and have ridden a softail Deuce for past 10 years.  Looking for something more sporty and the option for touring (bags).  Looking to keep it around $10k and there is no brand preference.  Also prefer more character to the bike vs. highest specs.

U-TURN

GARAGE

• Rich is starting to take apart the R6 for a new chain and sprockets.  Enjoying the process of cleaning it up, looking for things that need to be fixed, and just becoming familiar with a sport bike.  
• Jon has 15k service done on the Spyder and learns that the semi-auto shifting requires good oil pressure.  Since it was a quart low, the shifting was not smooth.

The 2000 Yamaha R6 on the stands with the lower fairings removed.  Rich is coming up to speed with this type of bike and performing some maintenance before getting this on the road.

After a great show with the next generation, Jon is back on the hot seat to talk about his riding over the past few days.  Jon met up with Rich and Micah for lunch on Friday at Hwy 55 Burgers.  Then on Sunday Jon took a little ride out to Kitty Hawk, NC to meet-up with Dave and attend the OBX bike week.  All in Jon rode 975 miles and is about to crack 13k on the Spyder.  With two more weeks before the one year anniversary, will he crack 14k, 15k, or 16k?

OBX Bike Week:

• Very SMALL turn out, perhaps due to end of the weekend and rainy weather
• Visited three light houses (Cape Hatteras, Bodie Island, and Currituck) 
• Traveled the length of NC 12 from Corolla, NC to Hatteras, NC
• After speaking with a fellow Spyder rider on replacing reflectors with LED lights, Jon has ideas

Motorcycle PodcasterS Challenge:

We have been busy working on the rules for the 2nd annual Motorcycle Podcaster Challenge.  We give a high level overview of the rules and here are some of the highlights:

• Three week challenge and will start on June 21st, 2017 ending on July 12th, 2017
• Standalone Podcast that challenge members can be part of.  Recording will be Wednesday nights at 9pm ET.
• No phone app will be used - social meet site will be used in stead (Facebook Group)
• Weekly submit for points instead of daily
• Managed by non member of challenge
• Alphabet scavenger hunt
• Milage bonus points
• Listener bonus points
• Flash Challenges will be offered as a way for behind teams to catchup.

The idea for this episode was to talk with our kids and get their perspective on motorcycles.  So we talk with Rico's son Kahlum (12) and Rich's sons Bryce (8), and Cameron (6), which was not very hard to do once we turned on the mics!
