The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs already has one Game 7 ahead when the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche meet, but there are two more series that can also go the distance. We discuss the keys to victory in the remaining opening round games of the NHL playoffs.

The Winnipeg Jets pulled off a dramatic double-overtime victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 7, securing their spot in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Here are the key storylines from the intense matchup:

• Comeback for the Ages: The Jets trailed 3-1 late in the third period, with their season hanging in the balance. However, they mounted a stunning comeback, scoring two goals in the final two minutes of regulation with their goalie pulled to force overtime.

The Toronto Maple Leafs held off a determined Florida Panthers squad to secure a 5-4 victory in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Monday night. William Nylander was the offensive catalyst for the Maple Leafs, scoring two goals and adding an assist in a dominant first period that saw Toronto jump out to a 3-1 lead.

While the Maple Leafs built a 4-1 lead heading into the third period, the Panthers mounted a furious comeback attempt, scoring three goals to tie the game at 4-4. However, Matthew Knies ultimately netted the game-winner for Toronto with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.

The game wasn't without its drama, as Maple Leafs starting goaltender Anthony Stolarz left the game in the second period with an undisclosed injury after an apparent collision. Joseph Woll stepped in relief and made 17 saves to help Toronto secure the win. Seth Jones, Eetu Luostarinen, Uvis Balinskis, and Sam Bennett scored for the Panthers, while Brad Marchand and Carter Verhaeghe each registered two assists.

The Maple Leafs took a crucial 1-0 series lead, but the close nature of the game and the Panthers' resilience suggest a hard-fought series is ahead. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday in Toronto.

On Tuesday night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, two second-round series got underway with Game 1 matchups:

In the Eastern Conference, the Carolina Hurricanes edged out the Washington Capitals 2-1 in overtime. Jaccob Slavin scored the decisive goal for the Hurricanes in the extra frame. Frederik Andersen made his return to the Carolina net after injury.

In the Western Conference, the Edmonton Oilers rallied to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2. After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Oilers responded with four unanswered goals. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each recorded a goal and an assist for Edmonton.

On Wednesday night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, two second-round series continued with Game 2 matchups, and another series kicked off with Game 1:

The Vegas Golden Knights scored with 0.4 seconds left to defeat the Edmonton Oilers and stay alive in their second round series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Oilers and the Hurricanes played to raucous home crowds and pushed their opponents to the brink of elimination, each going up 3-1 in their series.

Carolina Hurricanes 5 - Washington Capitals 2: The Hurricanes dominated on home ice, pushing the Capitals to the brink of elimination with a 3-1 series lead. Twelve different Carolina skaters recorded a point, showcasing their depth. While Alex Ovechkin scored for Washington, the Hurricanes responded effectively each time the Capitals tried to close the gap. Frederik Andersen continued his strong play in net for Carolina.

Edmonton Oilers 3 - Vegas Golden Knights 0: The Oilers shut out the defending champions in Edmonton, taking a 3-1 series lead. Adam Henrique scored twice in the first period, and Stuart Skinner recorded a 23-save shutout, his first of the postseason. The Oilers' strong start and Skinner's stellar performance were the key storylines, putting Vegas in a tough position heading back home.

On Tuesday night, May 13th, the Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 in Game 4 of their second-round Stanley Cup Playoff series. The Stars now hold a 3-1 lead and are one win away from advancing to the Western Conference Final.

Mikael Granlund was the star of the night for Dallas, scoring his first career playoff hat trick. Jake Oettinger made 31 saves for the Stars, while Nikolaj Ehlers scored the lone goal for the Jets.

The key storyline was Granlund's offensive explosion, propelling the Stars to a crucial victory. The Jets, the regular-season's top team, now face elimination as the series shifts back to Winnipeg for Game 5 on Thursday. Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen returned to the lineup after missing time with an injury and recorded an assist.

The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are down to the final four, with two highly anticipated Conference Finals set to begin.

In the Eastern Conference Final, it's a rematch from two years ago as the Florida Panthers face the Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, are looking to make their third consecutive Final appearance. They've shown resilience, including a Game 7 victory over the Maple Leafs. The Hurricanes, known for their relentless forecheck and strong defensive system, have navigated their first two rounds with relative ease. This series will feature a battle of elite goaltending with Sergei Bobrovsky for Florida and Frederik Andersen for Carolina, and a clash of styles between Florida's offensive depth and Carolina's structured attack.

In the Western Conference Final, the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers will meet for a rematch of last year's series. The Florida Panthers delivered a decisive blow to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 on Sunday night, securing a dominant 6-1 victory in Toronto. This win propels the Panthers to their third consecutive Eastern Conference Final.

Brad Marchand and Eetu Luostarinen each had a goal and two assists for Florida, while Seth Jones contributed a goal and an assist. Sergei Bobrovsky was solid in net, making 20 saves. The Panthers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second period with goals from Jones, Anton Lundell, and Jonah Gadjovich.

While Max Domi briefly gave the Maple Leafs hope with a goal early in the third, Luostarinen quickly responded, extinguishing any chance of a Toronto comeback. Sam Reinhart and Marchand (empty net) added further tallies for Florida. Joseph Woll made 27 saves for the Maple Leafs, but the team struggled to generate consistent offense.

This Game 7 loss marks the Maple Leafs' seventh consecutive defeat in a Game 7 situation, extending their long wait to advance past the second round for the first time since 2002. The Panthers now move on to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.

The Florida Panthers opened the Eastern Conference Final with a dominant 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Tuesday night. This marked Carolina's first home loss in six playoff games.

The Panthers established control early, scoring two first-period goals. Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring on a power play, followed by Aaron Ekblad, who extended the lead to 2-0. While Sebastian Aho pulled one back for the Hurricanes late in the first, deflecting a shot past Sergei Bobrovsky, the Panthers continued to dictate play.

A.J. Greer restored Florida's two-goal lead in the second period, and Sam Bennett further solidified their advantage with a power-play goal in the third. Eetu Luostarinen added another goal for the Panthers before Jackson Blake scored a late power-play marker for Carolina, making it a 5-2 final.

Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar in net for Florida, making 31 saves, while Frederik Andersen stopped 15 shots for the Hurricanes. The Panthers' ability to score on the power play against Carolina's strong penalty kill, along with their offensive depth, were key storylines in their commanding Game 1 win.

In a dramatic comeback, the Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final on Wednesday night. The Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit, scoring five unanswered goals in the third period.

The Oilers had built a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame, with goals from Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (power play), and Evan Bouchard. Tyler Seguin scored for Dallas in the first period to tie the game at 1-1, but Edmonton regained control in the second.

However, the third period belonged entirely to the Stars. Miro Heiskanen, Mikael Granlund, and Matt Duchene all scored power-play goals in a span of just 5:26 to give Dallas a 4-3 lead. Tyler Seguin added his second goal of the night, and Esa Lindell sealed the victory with an empty-netter.

The Stars' power play was particularly effective in the third period, converting on three consecutive opportunities. This stunning turnaround gives Dallas a 1-0 series lead heading into Game 2.
