Going Deeper - How David Walked with God05 Sep 202400:26:36

Does your faith often feel like two steps forward and one step back? You pray and read the Bible for a few days in a row, but then life gets busy, or you sin, and then you feel like you have to start all over. In this program, Chip will guide us to a new perspective as he picks up in his series, Going Deeper. Discover how to develop a rhythm of meeting with God from the example King David modeled for us.

Main Points

David’s story

  • He was neglected when he was young.
  • He was belittled by his older brothers.
  • Despite his victories and loyalty, King Saul sought to kill him.
  • He was anointed as king but had to wait ten years before he became king.
  • Although he faced betrayal, disappointment, and trauma, David maintained a practice of connecting with God.

David's passion for God. -Psalm 27:4-11

David's passion for the Word of God. -Psalm 119:9-11, 33-40

Lessons from David’s walk:

  • People who really love God have ups and downs in their walk with God. We are human. Our emotions rise and fall, but the Spirit says, “seek My face.”
  • David’s core was a passion to know God. And his primary instrument was the Word of God.

Going Deeper - How Moses Walked with God04 Sep 202400:27:24

When people talk about hearing God’s voice and exploring the Bible, have you thought, “I want that too, but I am too old” or “I am not smart enough?” Well, in this program, Chip has some much-needed encouragement for you as he continues his series, Going Deeper. Hear how to have genuine closeness with God as Chip studies the life and faith of Moses.

Main Points Moses’ Story
  • Born during a time of peril: The children of Israel were being persecuted by Pharaoh.
  • Adopted into an Egyptian family: Raised in a secular environment, yet he was exposed to his Hebrew roots.
  • Despite his privileged life, he comes to a point where he asks, “what’s life really about?”
  • He made mistakes, such as killing an Egyptian, which led to his fleeing and living as a shepherd for forty years.
  • After leaving Egypt, Moses feels a deep sense of unworthiness, inability, and inadequacy.
God wants to walk with you step-by-step
  • He wants you to know His will.
  • He wants you to enjoy His presence.
  • He wants to guide and direct you.
Walking with God
  • It’s never too late, you’re never too old; God wants to walk with you and use you for His glory.
  • When you stop walking with God you get what you can produce, but when you walk with God you get what He wants to produce in and through you.
  • When you walk with God it can sometimes be lonely and difficult, but He’ll fulfill His good work in us. -Philippians 1:6
Takeaway:
  • You need to ask God for a passion, not just to get good things from Him, but to actually know what He’s like.

In this program, Chip kicks off his series, Going Deeper: How to Walk with God 24/7. Learn why this close connection with God isn’t reserved for the super-spiritual Christian but an intimacy He desires for every believer.

Main Points

The way we walk determines our future and our life. -Psalm 1

Who we walk through in life will determine our destination. -Proverbs 13:20; Psalm 15

The Christian life is a walk, one step at a time:

  • Ephesians 1-3 – This is what God has already done for us.
  • Ephesians 4 – Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
  • Ephesians 5 – Walk in love as imitators of Christ, walk in light, and be filled by the Spirit.

The Goal:

  • To experience God’s presence by walking with Him in truth, in light, at His pace, and according to the destination that is going to bring us the greatest joy and the greatest glory to God.

Global Orphan Project: Helping Kids in Need - Global Orphan Project02 Sep 202400:25:29

Can you imagine… you…actually saving a child’s life? And you don’t need to go anywhere, or complete any special training. In this program, Chip interviews Joe Knittig from the Global Orphan Project. Joe describes the widespread poverty tearing families apart and shares a very simple way believers can meet these needs in their own backyard.

Main Points

Purpose and Importance of CarePortal:

  • CarePortal is a platform designed to connect local churches with the needs of children and families in crisis, helping them avoid entering the foster care system. It provides a way for community members to address these needs in real-time.

Joe Knittig’s Background:

  • Joe Knittig had a troubled upbringing but was later transformed by his faith and became a trial lawyer. He and his wife decided to focus on supporting children and families in need, which led to their involvement in CarePortal.

Child Welfare Crisis:

  • In the U.S., over four million children annually face issues that bring them to the doorstep of the foster care system. More than 400,000 are in foster care, and over 100,000 are immediately adoptable. The crisis affects families across various communities, and the system is overwhelmed.

CarePortal’s Mechanism:

  • CarePortal acts as a "sharing platform" similar to Uber or Airbnb but for child welfare needs. Social workers and child protective services input needs into CarePortal, and local churches are then notified. Churches can choose to meet these needs, which could be anything from providing beds to assisting with rent.

Impact and Growth:

  • Since its inception in 2015 in Austin, Texas, CarePortal has expanded to 22 states and involves over 2,400 churches. It has helped over 82,000 children, with the number growing daily.

Relational Approach:

  • The goal is not only to provide transactional help but also to create relational connections between churches and families. This approach helps build community and support around children and families in crisis.

Prevention vs. Intervention:

  • CarePortal addresses both prevention (helping families before they enter the foster care system) and intervention (assisting those already in the system). This dual approach aims to reduce the need for foster care placements and support reunification.

Statistics and Outcomes:

  • Children who enter foster care often face poor outcomes, including higher rates of incarceration, homelessness, and involvement in sex trafficking. Preventing their entry into the system can significantly improve their future prospects.

Getting Involved:

  • Individuals interested in helping can visit CarePortal.org, select their role, and start contributing. The platform is designed to be intuitive and accessible for anyone willing to make a difference.

The Church’s Role:

  • The Church’s involvement can lead to significant systemic change and healing within communities. The Church can act as a unifying force to tackle the foster care crisis and support children and families effectively.

Caring Enough to Confront - Culture Shock 4.007 Oct 202400:27:20

Are you concerned about your community and church as values and morality continue to shift away from the truth of Scripture? In this program, Chip begins a critical series to help Christians use the light of God’s Word to confront today’s most critical issues, without being combative or defensive. Learn why our call to be salt and light is needed now more than ever.

Main Points
  1. Personal Story of Confrontation: Chip recounts a pivotal moment in his family's life when his mother intervened with his alcoholic father. Her decisive action—giving him an ultimatum—led to his sobriety and eventual transformation. This personal story underscores the importance of confronting issues with care and clarity.
  2. Call to Action for Christians: Chip highlights a contemporary issue where many Christians remain silent on controversial topics out of fear or a desire to avoid conflict. The message is clear: Christians need to be more vocal and courageous in addressing critical issues like politics, climate change, and LGBTQ+ matters, rather than remaining passive.
  3. Historical Context and Church Role: Reflecting on past experiences in a progressive city and the impact of the book Culture Shock, Chip emphasizes the importance of understanding and communicating truth in a respectful manner. Chip advocates for addressing controversial issues with both grace and truth, grounded in biblical principles.
  4. The Importance of Light Over Heat: Chip argues that Christians should bring light, not heat, to conversations about divisive issues. This means presenting truth with compassion and respect, rather than judgment or condemnation.
  5. Need for Internal Reflection: Before addressing external issues, Christians must first examine and address their own shortcomings and hypocrisies. Chip stresses that judgment begins with the house of God and that Christians should live out their faith authentically.
  6. Emphasis on Jesus’ Teachings: Drawing on biblical teachings, particularly from the Sermon on the Mount, Chip urges Christians to stand firm in righteousness, even if it leads to persecution. He stresses that the goal is not to be right for the sake of being right but to embody and communicate Jesus’ teachings faithfully.
  7. Practical Application: Chip calls for a practical approach to addressing critical issues—engaging in compassionate dialogue, supporting those in need, and actively working towards solutions rather than merely criticizing from the sidelines.
  8. Final Encouragement: The message concludes with a call to action for Christians to embody the light of Christ in their interactions and to not shy away from confronting issues with love and integrity. The goal is to reflect Jesus' love and truth in all aspects of life, making a positive impact on the world.

The Power of Prayer - How to Pray with Absolute Confidence, Part 204 Oct 202400:25:05

Imagine what it would be like if you needed wisdom, or deliverance from a difficult situation, or financial provision…and you could pray a prayer that God would answer 100% of the time. You can! In this message, Chip shows us how to pray with absolute confidence.

Main Points Faith:
  • Definition = Hebrews 11:1
  • Importance = Hebrews 11:6
  • Faith, therefore, is having absolute confidence that whatever God says, He will do.

Question: When you pray, are you going to God with absolute certainty and confidence that what you are asking for will be given?

You can pray with absolute confidence. -1 John 5:13-15

How?

  1. To whom is this promise made? -1 John 5:13
  2. How must we pray to know God hears our prayers? -1 John 5:14
  3. How can we know the will of God? -1 John 5:14 -- By the promises of His Word
  4. How can we know God’s will when we have no promise for a particular situation? -Romans 8:26-27

Conclusion: “We must pray in faith. That is, we must pray with confident expectation of getting the very thing we ask.” -George Mueller

We'll See God - We'll See God, Part 123 Sep 202400:25:51

Whether we mean to or not, we often think of God as a fast food restaurant, where we place our order and expect God to give us what we want quickly. However, in this program, our guest teacher, Gregg Dedrick, challenges that flawed perspective of God’s character. Join us to get a clearer picture of our Heavenly Father as we study the life and faith of Joseph from Genesis chapter 37.

Main Points Joseph’s journey:
  • Dream fulfillment stage 1: The pit
  • Dream fulfillment stage 2: Potiphar's house
  • Dream fulfillment stage 3: Prison
What do we learn from Joseph?
  • Joseph had to wait because he wasn’t ready for his destiny.
  • Joseph’s faith had to be tested to trust God’s faithfulness through everything.
  • The pit, Potiphar’s house, and prison can either be the end of the journey or the preparation for the main event.

God is the God of the process. -Romans 5:3-5

It’s our test and our trials that produce the growth. -James 1:2-4

How do we grow in our faith?
  • Gain God’s perspective
  • Tests and trials
  • Surrender

Are you contending for God’s purposes in your life? Are you pursuing in faith your destiny, whether you’re in the pit, Potiphar’s house, or prison?

Living Out Your Purpose - Living Out Your Purpose, Part 119 Sep 202400:25:53

It has been said that that which is built in the flesh is maintained by the flesh, but that which is built in the Spirit is maintained by the Spirit. So, what does that phrase mean? In this program, Chip Ingram will explore that answer as he interviews his close friend and marketplace leader, Gregg Dedrick. Join us as we learn through Gregg’s life story how to build your life on God instead of chasing after earthly fulfillment.

Main Points Building in the Flesh vs. Building in the Spirit:
  • Building in the Flesh: Attempting to live the Christian life through personal effort, willpower, and self-sufficiency, which often leads to burnout and discouragement.
  • Building in the Spirit: Surrendering to God and partnering with Him, which leads to a more fulfilling and sustainable Christian life.
Gregg Dedrick’s Journey:
  • Corporate Success: Gregg achieved significant success in the corporate world, including roles as chief people officer and president of KFC.
  • Burnout: Despite his achievements, he experienced burnout in both business and ministry, feeling that there had to be more to life than what he was experiencing.
The Turning Point:
  • Surrender: Gregg's journey began with a surrender to God, recognizing his own self-sufficiency and the need for divine help.
  • Intimacy with God: He realized that his faith had become more of a code of ethics rather than a genuine relationship with God. This led him to explore a deeper intimacy with God.
Key Insights:
  • Adoration Prayer: Gregg discovered adoration prayer as a way to build intimacy with God, focusing on loving God for who He is rather than for what He does.
  • Misplaced Identity: He acknowledged that his identity and relationship with God had been performance-based, leading to a shaky and conditional relationship with God.
Transformation and Impact:
  • Shift from Devotion to Discipline: He transitioned from a focus on performing religious duties to a disciplined approach to devotion that opened his heart to God.
  • Impact on Relationships: This new understanding improved his relationships, including his marriage, by fostering a deeper and more genuine connection with others.
Practical Application:
  • Partnership with God: Building in the Spirit involves partnering with God rather than relying solely on one's own efforts. This approach leads to a more authentic and fulfilling spiritual life.
Book Recommendation:

The Holy Spirit - How to be Filled with the Holy Spirit, Part 212 Sep 202400:29:37

What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? And, perhaps more importantly, how do you get filled with the Holy Spirit? What’s the process? Chip explains what it means and what it does NOT mean.

Main Points Clarifying the terminology: Baptism does not equal Filling:
  • The Baptism of the Spirit - “The non-experiential, unrepeated work of the Holy Spirit at regeneration whereby we are placed into the Body of Christ.” F.F. Bruce -Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Romans 8:9
  • The Filling of the Spirit - “The unobstructed, or unhindered, control or influence of the Spirit upon the believer’s life.” C. Ryrie -Acts 2:4, 4:8, 4:31, 6:3, 6:5, 6:55, 9:17, 11:24, 13:9, 13:52
Four principles to remember:
  1. The issue is not getting more of the Holy Spirit, it’s Him getting more of you.
  2. We are never told to seek an experience or gift as evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
  3. The conditions for being filled are: Obedience, dedication, yieldedness to God and His Word. -Romans 12:1-2, Undefeated life (dealing with known sin) -Romans 6:12-13, Dependent life -John 15, Galatians 5:16
  4. The key perspective: It is relationship, not mechanical.

We live in a day where people are obsessed with knowing their purpose. There are tons of tests and assessments out there to help you discover who you are and what you are supposed to do. But in this program, Chip asks: what do you do after that? Through this talk from his series, Life Lessons with Chip, Chip will help you pursue God's purpose for you and confidently live it out every day.

God is the God of the process. -Romans 5:3-5

It’s our test and our trials that produce the growth. -James 1:2-4

What the World Needs Now - Humble Bridge-Builders, Part 207 Nov 202400:24:58

In a global atmosphere of division and rancor, how do Christians live like Christians? How do we express love and concern, and overcome even our own anger and bitterness? In this program, Chip tells us, apart from the saving grace and sovereign influence of Jesus, nothing of lasting value can happen. From the book of Matthew and Jesus’ own teaching, Chip reveals the path to becoming a relational bridge-builder, regardless of our circumstances.

Main Points Topic #1 - The 6th Commandment
  • No murder by violent hands - Matthew 5:21
  • No murder by angry hearts or lethal lips - Matthew 5:22
Jesus' application:
  • The parable of priority: right relationships trump religious requirements every time.
  • The parable of urgency: delayed obedience will result in dire consequences.
Steps to humble bridge-building:
  1. Do you have anger, bitterness, or resentment toward anyone, past or present?
  2. Have you murdered anyone in your heart or with your lips?
  3. Will you confess this sin right now and receive God’s full forgiveness?
  4. Can you think of anyone who might feel angry or resentful towards you? Will you commit to make that relationship right “as far as it depends on you”?
  5. Will you STOP and thank God for His love and kindness and blessings in your life right now?

What the World Needs Now - Humble Bridge-Builders, Part 106 Nov 202400:24:52

Division, hate, and violence, don’t start with words. They begin in the heart. The disunity we see happening in our country and around the world - in homes, on the streets, and in the media - is ultimately caused by a driving force who’s aim is for that disunity to prevail. Scripture tells us our battle isn’t against flesh and blood. So, how do we become humble bridge-builders in the midst of the conflict? Chip addresses that in this program.

Life Lessons with Chip - Answering Your Adversities01 Nov 202400:26:41

Are you in a painful, confusing season of life right now? Maybe you’ve lost your job, have a conflict with a spouse or a child, or just received a sudden diagnosis. Whatever it is, do you wish there was a biblical guide to respond to adversity? In this program, Chip will share three questions you need to ask when challenges come. Discover how these prompts will get you through the most trying experiences and grow your faith.

Main Points Three Questions to consider in times of adversity:
  1. How does Jesus want to use this adversity in your life for good?
  2. How does Satan want to use this adversity for your downfall?
  3. How can Satan turn a God-allowed trial into a lethal temptation?
Satan is a master in deception; his MO is built on lies about:
  1. God
  2. You
  3. The future
  4. Your faith

Dark cloud “raining” down adversities:

Satan’s filter (deception):
  • Reaction: fear, overwhelmed, unfairness, where is God?
  • Leads to attitudes of: anger, despair, abandonment
  • End in: self-medicating, over-spending, acting out, addiction, isolation, etc.
God’s filter (truth):
  • You’re not alone
  • It’s intended for your good
  • Attitude: big step of faith to “consider it all joy”
  • Action: don’t give up (persevere)

In this program, Chip continues addressing society's abandonment of biblical morality. Main Points Introduction: We’ve got a problem!
    • The symptom: Moral issues
    • The issues: Ethics and values
    • The dilemma: Who determines what’s right or wrong?
    • The question: What is truth?
