Throughout my life, God has granted me many blessings. One thing I’ve always struggled with is understanding how to not allow those blessings to become idols. Through a life-changing experience, God allowed me to understand the difference between a blessing and an idol, as well as some signs that are able to tell you if your blessing has become an idol. Majority of my life I’ve been preached the relationship Gospel. You don’t really have to share the Gospel, you just have to live it. The past few days, I felt a little off, so I took some time to pray about my emotions. The Holy Spirit kept reminding me of the verse your yoke is easing your burden is light. I was confused by this, because I know that God‘s yolk is easy. I realized I wasn’t feeling burdened by the Lord, I was feeling burdened by the world. Something so simple that I completely forgot to consider, is that I don’t have to carry the burden of the world because Jesus has already overcome the world! When I was in a season of prayer about what evangelism looks like, someone told me this, “what you draw them with is what you draw them too.” This changed the way I viewed evangelism, and made me realize that what I want to draw people in with is  the love of God inside me, not persuade them with the prosperity gospel. I’ve always been a talker, I could sit down and talk your ear off for hours. Recently, I’ve learned that being a Christian means being a good listener. If we look at the life of Christ, we see that he listened, he knew everything about everybody, he was all knowing. Yet, He still sat and listened. It led me to start questioning, on why I feel like I need to talk about myself, any chance I got. I realized it was because I wanted to be known. The truth is, I’ll always be unknown by the world, but my soul is recognized by God, and so is yours.

I used to do the “right Christian thing,” like talk to strangers and do random acts of kindness in hope to show them Jesus. Being a Christian is just simply hard sometimes. Sometimes it’s hard to say no to a “fun night out,” sometimes it’s hard to say no to the norm. I used to sugar coat this and say “well, not hard just challenging, but I’m grateful,” while this is true, it is just plain hard at times. Something I have learned is you have to have confidence in the hard, confidence and trust knowing that your no’s and yes’s have an eternal effect.
