THE CHEATERS RECAP WITH PATRICK LABYORTEAUX!

jeudi 8 mai 2025Durée 47:33

We’re joined by one of our all-time favorite guests—Andy Garvey himself, the one and only Patrick Labyorteaux!Patrick and Alison take us behind the scenes of this unforgettable episode, where (surprise!) Nellie proves once again she’s the absolute worst. Poor Andy!Patrick shares stories about working with his on-screen parents, his real-life adoptive parents, how he was directed in the episode, and what it was like growing up alongside his equally talented brother, Matthew. But we’ve got questions…Why was Alice the worst teacher ever?
Why did Nellie literally write the answers in her coat lining?!
Can we all agree—no one feels good getting a whooping?
And finally… was Patrick actually psychotic as a child? You have to hear the story.

Then, Patrick joins us again on Patreon to talk about how being a child actor today compares to his time on Little House on the Prairie—and what’s changed over the years.

"Wilder and Wilder" with Charles Bloom!

vendredi 7 mars 2025Durée 55:03

We couldn’t be more thrilled for this long-awaited family reunion! Join us in welcoming fan-favorite Charles Bloom, known to Little House on the Prairie fans as Perley Dey Wilder.

Charles Bloom has built an impressive career spanning acting and musical composition. As a composer and lyricist, he has made significant contributions to musical theater, writing the book, music, and lyrics for productions such as Pablo—a deep dive into the early life of Picasso—Insomnia, and Heaven Knows. His compositions have been performed by Broadway legends like Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin, and Michael Feinstein and are studied in over 30 university musical theater programs worldwide. His album, Music and Lyrics by Charles Bloom: IN HERE, features a live 20-piece orchestra and showcases top Broadway talent.

In this episode, Charles shares fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, including his original audition for Little House on the Prairie, where he was initially considered for the role of Almanzo! He reflects on his time filming the episode and is still amazed by the enduring love from Bonnetheads worldwide. Though Perley Dey appeared in just one episode, it was a memorable one—his performance left a lasting impression on generations of fans.

This episode has it all: romance, drama, love triangles, and Laura Ingalls in peak awkward-era mode (the iconic "I'm a woman" declaration happens multiple times—braids and all—cringe!). Expect intense tension between the alpha males, high comedy, and Andy Garvey delivering some serious feels… for better or worse.

And for an exclusive treat—join us on Patreon! Dean opens up about a haunting on-set memory involving Michael Landon and Charles that has stuck with him for nearly 45 years. Plus, Charles spills the details on a date he once set up for Melissa Gilbert…and trust us, you’ll never guess who it was with!

To check out Charles Bloom's music, his link and facebook page are in the show notes.

Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, leave a review, and share this episode with fellow Bonnetheads.

"The Plauge" recap!

jeudi 27 février 2025Durée 56:29

It’s a gloomy day across both New York and California, and it’s the perfect atmosphere to dive into today’s recap of The Plague. A defining episode from Season 1, this chilling installment has haunted both children and adults alike since its debut. The eerie similarities to our own experiences during the Covid pandemic and lockdown are striking...and unsettling. Major kudos to the GOAT, Doc Baker, (the late, great, Kevin Hagen) who steals the show with his performance, solidifying his apparent “Hot Doc” status among fans.Alison breaks down the real-world facts behind Typhus, the tooth fairy, and the birth of antibiotics. We also get a heartwarming behind-the-scenes moment as we explore Leslie Landon’s debut on Little House and her moving experience filming with her dad. And in a Little House first, we see the premiere of an ice bath in action! Plus, we uncover the mystery behind the wild wind in Walnut Grove, whether rats have their own handlers, and the real purpose of sulfur. And...who knew Mr. Hanson is a flour miller? Finally, Pamela highlights the unsettling emotional impact of those cheerful closing credits after such an intense episode

"MR. EDWARDS' HOMECOMING" recap!

jeudi 20 février 2025Durée 56:34

First up, we dive into the exciting news that Netflix has officially greenlit a new Little House on the Prairie series. But before you panic—relax! It’s not a reboot. Dean, Alison, and Pamela break down what this means, why it’s great news, and what we may expect.

Then...We revisit a Season 1 classic: Mr. Edwards’ Homecoming! These are the early days on the Prairie, and this episode is a standout in establishing the heartwarming (and sometimes heartbreaking) relationships between our beloved characters. This marks the first appearance of Mr. Edwards, and Victor French delivers a masterclass in acting—showcasing every layer of this complex, rugged-yet-tender character.Ever wonder how quickly Little House went from a pilot to a full series? Spoiler: it happened in record time! Plus, we break down Chesty Charles’ peak “Pa” energy in his interactions with Mr. Edwards—proving that strength and vulnerability can go hand in hand. And, of course, we tackle the big questions:
  • Why is Bonnie Bartlett’s Widow Grace giving major “town Karen” vibes?
  • Is this the very first instance of bedroom popcorn in the series?
  • And how does The Sure Thing with John Cusack complete Dean’s full-circle Prairie moment?
Join us for all this and more as we celebrate another unforgettable trip back to Walnut Grove! Then join us on Patreon, where we'll see Pamela's new puppy, and discuss the working relationship between Bonnie Bartlett and Victor French.Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, leave a review, and share this episode with fellow Bonnetheads.

jeudi 13 février 2025Durée 44:33

It’s the day before Valentine’s Day, so we’re celebrating love—Prairie style! Sure, today’s recap episode might have divorce in the title, but make no mistake—it’s all about love. VICTOR FRENCH'S CHILDREN REMEMBER

jeudi 5 décembre 2024Durée 53:59

We’ve entered the month of December, which means that holiday celebrations are
under way and Little House’s 50 th Anniversary year will soon enter the history books – or
will it? The show premiered in September of 1974, so the Anniversary year rolls on.
More on that to come in later shows.

One of the things we’ll remember about this December 5 episode of the podcast is that
Alison and Dean did it without the support of our very special host, Pamela Bob, who
Zooms in each week from Brooklyn, NY. We missed her and we can tell you today that
Pamela is fine, but we can also say that the reason she wasn’t with us on Thanksgiving
gives us the opportunity to say thanks for her swift return. We’ll leave Pamela to share
the details of her Thanksgiving absence as she chooses.
In the meantime, we are deeply thankful for our Bonnethead family, who allow us to
connect and continue the Little House Love that began with the premiere of Little House
so many years ago.

Today we’re very excited to welcome the children of a man who was there right from
the start of the Little House adventure early in 1974. We are speaking of Victor French,
Little House’s beloved Mr. Edwards. Two of Victor’s three children, Tracy Hall and her
older brother, Victor Allen French (not a Junior, BTW) were in town to take part in
2024’s final Little House on the Prairie tours of Big Sky Movie Ranch on December 1. The
day before the tours Alison and Dean welcomed Tracy and Victor into the studios of
UBNGo in Burbank. It was a wonderful conversation about their unforgettably talented
dad that focused on his portrayal of Isiah Edwards, the transforming power of the role,
his passion for the craft of acting, and his children’s remembrances of Victor as a very
special dad.

We also heard about Victor and Tracy’s commitment to their dad’s creative legacy; they
have a new online store (see below) and are working on the publication of his theories
of acting titled, A Matter of Choice. If you worked with Victor or loved his work on stage
and screen, we think A Matter of Choice is a “must-read.”

For our Patrons we will continue with Tracy and Victor focusing on their gleeful playtime
with their dad that made every day in the French house a kind of laughing, screaming
Halloween adventure. Those of us who worked with Victor can totally relate to his extraordinary ability to make us laugh, cry, or scream as the circumstances evolved
during so many wonderful scenes.

A SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE HOLIDAYS (Written by Pamela):
Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not just
because of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on all
of us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and shared
values that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and the
importance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. For many of
us, Little House was more than just entertainment—it was a source of comfort,
inspiration, and connection to a simpler, yet deeply meaningful way of life. It has shaped
how we view family, community, and the world around us, and continues to remind us
to appreciate the little things in life. Today, as we gather with loved ones, let us
remember these values as a country, a community, as human beings.
