Hello, I’m Sarah Mc Ginn, and you’re listening to Life's Too Short

I believe that grief has the power to change your life forever.

Your beliefs, your desires, your motivators, and your purpose,

I want to speak with people who have also experienced great grief in their lives.

What can we learn from people who have lived through the unimaginable?

And how do we ensure that we are making the most of our time here?

Because, as we all know, life is too short.

Each week I'll be speaking with a different guest on their experiences through grief, and how the lives they lived have been changed, forever. The conversations may be hard to listen to at times, but they are important to hear, important to take what you can from their stories and journeys.

And, as with the complexities of life, there is lightness and laughter running through each and every story. So grab your cup of tea, or pop on your runners (whatever way you like to listen to your podcasts) and plug your earphones in to listen to these stories of....hope.

Anticipatory Grief – Aoife Gillespie’s Story (Part 1)

In this powerful first part of a two-part episode, I sit down with Aoife Gillespie as she shares her deeply personal journey of love, loss, and resilience. As a mother and caregiver, Aoife speaks candidly about how she is coping, offering insight into the unique pain of preparing for loss while still trying to cherish every moment.

This episode is an honest and heartfelt exploration of grief, love, and the strength it takes to keep going. If you or someone you love has been affected by the themes in this conversation, please know that support is available. Here are some Irish organizations that offer help:

Ciara O'Malley: Living through the grief of the sudden death of your partner of 10 years

Saison 1 · Épisode 8

mercredi 3 mai 2023Durée 53:19

This is the very last episode of the first season, and I want to start by saying how grateful I am for everyone who shared their story, who listened, who messaged, it has all meant so much.

I’ll be back with season two over the coming months, so if you’re not yet following on Instagram, head over to@lifestooshortpodcast to follow and keep up to date with the release of season two.

And if there is anything or anyone you would like to hear on season 2, just pop me a DM.

On today’s episode I speak with Ciara O’Malley. Ciara tragically lost her partner of 10 years, David, in a drowning accident when they lived in Canada. She speaks with me today about how her grief took over her life in the time after she lost David. But how she now feels guided by both her grief and her partner in what she does in her everyday life.

She harnessed her grief into writing and released a book in 2021, Miracles Appear When Loved Ones Are Near', a story about grief, empowerment and enlightenment, to help people seek their own inner strength in the harshest of times.

How Ciara speaks about grief and hope in this episode is inspiring. I hope you can take what you need from this conversation too.

Charlie Moon: Living through the grief of losing your Sister

Saison 1 · Épisode 7

mardi 18 avril 2023Durée 43:56

On today’s episode I speak with singer, guitarist, and Ireland’s “rising star of jazz” Charlie Moon.

He speaks with me today about the untimely death of his eldest sister Claire, how the combined grief within this family has brought them closer together, and how a little street in Wicklow town has connected them to their sister and daughter.

Charlie also speaks to me about the authors, books & beliefs that have helped him understand life and death, and we discuss the full circle of birth, death and life as he prepares to become a Father for the first time.

I found this conversation with Charlie fascinating – his deep insight into his grief is remarkable, and I feel I learnt a lot about my own grief from chatting with him.

I hope you can take what you need from this conversation too.
