Ep123 - Don’t Touch my Dog! (Advocating for our animals when out in public)
11 Mar 2022
00:47:34
One of the most common questions that we as professional dog trainers get is, how should pet owners have "those" potentially uncomfortable conversations when it comes to strangers (dogs AND people) looking to interact with our dogs in public?
Many pet owners may feel "awkward" or "mean" for having to advocate for their dog's right to feel safe when they are out and about in the world
It is a total MYTH that stranger dogs should always be allowed to interact with one another, or that your dog should have to accept attention from any person they do not know
Panos & Luke break down the myriad of themes inside this pandora's box and give some practical tips on how to be the LEADER that your dog believes you to be!
Ep122 - Asking vs Telling your Dog to do Something
05 Mar 2022
00:17:19
There is a big difference between a command and request and knowing the difference is essential to a healthy and respectful communication with your dog.
Panos discusses:
Establishing commands
Learning vs Training and when you start telling your dog to do something.
Following through with correction.
Clarity is key, think about your dog's perspective.
Know when to tell your dog and when to ask your dog to do things.
Ep121- It’s Raining! (What should I do with my dog?)
27 Feb 2022
00:12:40
People tend to do very little with their dog when it is raining and are surprised that their dog is acting over the top with excitement, anxiety and destructive behaviour.
Panos goes through a few quick tips to offer while there is excessive rain over multiple days and hopefully some of these tips and tricks can be added to daily life.
Stop the excuses, toughen up, train, play and make the most of what you have...
Saharai “Sada” Salazar has been working professionally with canines for over 18 years.
Saharai’s education in domestic animal and wildlife biology with an emphasis on canine studies included behavior, anatomy and physiology, genetics, evolution, and diseases at the University of California, Davis.
Saharai’s passion in working with Fear, Anxiety and Stress (FAS) in dogs, especially fear-based aggression, was cultivated in the Isolation Ward of a county animal shelter.
For several years, she successfully rehabilitated and placed numerous red-listed dogs slated for euthanasia. Behavior modification presented its own special challenges in a shelter environment, which equipped Saharai with a unique set of skills and the knowledge needed to straddle the rescue and behavior worlds.
Sometimes we take on so much in our day-to-day life, and to make things worse, we suffer more in our head than we actually need to.
In this week's episode, Panos comes back from a week out of Sydney to reflect on a few things: how stress affects learning, teaching, and relationships.
To accept your current situation, whatever it be, your dog's behaviour, pressures of work, feeling overwhelmed with life's demands, etc.
Once you see it for what it is, make plans moving forward, and over time, learn to read these patterns and be proactive.
You are only best for others when you, yourself is at your best, this applies to your relationship and training with your dog and, of course many other factors to other areas of your life.
Ep117 - (The Importance Of) Hanging Out With Your Dog
30 Jan 2022
00:17:09
After a streak of technical training talk, Panos takes the time to remind us that life with our dogs is not only about training.
Take the time to remind yourself what you get from the relationship with your dog and 'EP12- Why we have dogs in our lives' can be a great episode to refer to for a deeper focus on this.
Incorporate training to enhance your life with your dog, to allow for biological fulfilment and establish rules and boundaries, just remember to love your dog and create memories based on what it is you love about dogs.
In this week's episode, Panos and Luke discuss the concept of developing habits in our application of training to create reliable behaviours in our dogs.
Dopamine is the molecule responsible for anticipation of reward and increasing motivation, it is interesting and complex.
This topic goes deeper in the weeds of what this means when training and living with our dogs in a practical way.
Ep214 - You get what you reward (you reap what you sow)
21 May 2024
00:10:14
Today's short episode is a reminder that you may be reinforcing unwanted behaviours that you actually don't like. Being mindful of this is the initial step to making positive changes in your training.

Panos covers a few topics that a fundamental to the experience and how to go about making positive action to keep the relationship mutual between cats and dogs.
Panos answers Aaron's question sent in via our Instagram:
"Luna has all of a sudden heard something in our building garage and elevator that sends her barking. She was well socialised to the carpark and elevator as she has been doing the same walk to and from the car since day one. If you on the podcast could discuss fixing a problem like this where a dog is guaranteed to bark in a certain situation and the steps you would take to rectify. Like how you would make use of treats and what to do when she starts barking (e.g make her sit). The bigger issue being we cannot avoid it as we need to go that way to get to car."

22 Aug 2021
00:37:38
Unfortunately as dog trainers it can be a case of "do as I say, not as I do"
In terms of the advice we give out, we trainers can be just as guilty of making silly mistakes ourselves!

A kind stranger found and returned her safely!
In this episode we go over a list of tips of what to do if your dog ever goes missing

Keep your dog's collar and ID tag on at all times!
Have an attitude of gratitude & go hug your dog.

Ep83 - Desensitisation via Distance & Flooding
08 May 2021
00:47:06
Panos and Luke discuss the differences between working a dog from distance to a trigger, compared to flooding the dog with that stimulus.
Acknowledging that distance work is the preferred method for counter-conditioning to achieve desensitisation however living in the city may make this approach difficult.
Flooding can work really well for certain dogs, and preparing for the inevitable so owners know how to get out of a pickle may be a good idea.
