Summertime Magic + ways to capture it17 Jun 202100:32:59

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 29 of Life On the Brink!

We are just a few days away from the official start to summer, and I am so excited! We've made it through a challenging season, and now it's time to enjoy like never before.

I think the reason summertime is so magical is because we have so many childhood memories of summer. It was the time of our life that wasn’t regulated by school every day, when we had time to explore and have fun. I think summer carries an inherent nostalgia as we grow up, and this year especially I’m hoping to capture some of that.

In this episode I'll share 20 fun ways to soak up this very special summer and capture all of it's magic, complete with recipes and books and personal memories.

Plus I'm sharing a delicious Little Joy and my favorite summertime album.

Why I'm done with "hustle culture" + a new outlook on life and success03 Jun 202100:34:13

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 27 of Life On the Brink!

Today we’re talking about “hustle culture,” that is, our generation’s obsession with constant work. I’m sharing my own personal journey into, and departure from, this frame of mind, and what I’ve learned along the way. In the end, I hope that we are able to see our work for what it is: work, and to see our lives and ourselves not as an extension of that work, as we are so often told, but as something entirely different and meant to be enjoyed and loved.

Your life is precious, and if all your time is spent trying to achieve some purpose or goal, to always be doing rather than living, how might you spend that time differently if you knew you were already enough?

In this episode you'll hear
-the break down the term "hustle culture" and what it means for our society
-my own personal experience as a Queen Hustler
-how and why I moved away from this frame of mind
-encouragement for your journey

Plus I'm sharing a fun Little Joy for the week, as well as a super happy, chilled-out album for the end of spring/start of summer vibes.

Taking Care of Yourself PART 2: seasonal depression, postpartum, grief, etc.28 Feb 202500:39:32

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 123 of Life On the Brink!

I’m calling this episode a Part 2 as it sort of relates to one of the most popular episodes of the podcast: Episode 80 called “Taking Care of Yourself When You Feel Overwhelmed, Anxious or Burnt Out.” This is in a similar vein, but personally comes from a different headspace. Whereas Part 1 took place during a huge time of transition when I was moving into a new home, these days I’m in the midst of my first year of motherhood and am working through new stresses and, at times, sadness.

Sometimes you need to sit with your sadness, but for the times when you want to cheer up, in this episode I'm simply sharing the things that have been comforting to me.

Plus, I'm sharing a new favorite show that forces me to slow down, and a fun album from a beloved jazz band.

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 25 of Life On the Brink, and the one-year mark of this podcast! Wow!

When I started the podcast last year, I really had no way of knowing what it would become, or even if anyone would listen to it. It was created during a very tumultuous time in all our lives, a time when it was hard to look beyond the day-to-day. The point of this podcast, this community, is to embrace the everyday, your everyday life, whatever it looks like.
Even on the brink of those big milestones, why not celebrate today?

And in the spirit of enjoying life, and in celebration of one year, today we’re having a Little Joy Extravaganza. This episode is full of not one, not two, but TEN Little Joys to spice up your week!

Plus I've made a (if I do say so myself) playlist of bops that is ON FIRE.
Welcome, help us celebrate one year, and I can't wait to see what the next year holds!

Hello hello, and welcome to episode 11 of Life on the Brink, and the first of our holiday special!

We’re officially all the way into Christmastime! The flashiness and excitement isn’t what’s drawing me into Christmastime this year. Instead, I’m enjoying being at home and having some simple touches of Christmas throughout the home.

In this episode I’ll share some homemade (or naturally derived) festive decor ideas. Maybe one or two will pop out to you and spark some Christmas imagination. We've got foraging, crocheting, sweet smells, and lots of links for further inspiration!

I’m basically thinking of that scene from Little Women (1994 obvs) where they have Christmas in the middle of the movie. It’s simple, yet magical.

Josh and I returned home from our impromptu honeymoon on October 31 to discover that the autumn chill had settled in Virginia while we were gone.

Since then I've been sort of analyzing how my routine can adjust this fall. Each season is different, and they each call for different routines so that our day-to-day lives are as comforting and energizing as they can be, while celebrating the season we're in.

In  episode I'll share 7 simple daily practices that I'm adding into my routine this season to really soak up all the warm cozies that autumn has to offer. Plus I'm linking LOTS of soup recipes.

Plus, stick around for this week's Little Joy, and an energizing morning playlist featuring a beloved classical composer.

Making Special Days Special (7 ways to celebrate)23 Oct 202000:26:03

Hello, and welcome to episode 8 of Life on the Brink!

I don't know about you, but I love traditions. We need birthdays, holidays, small getaways, date nights, and milestones to add a little color to our everyday lives, but without looking too far ahead.

I love looking forward to these time-honored pastimes that not only mark the passing of the year, but also encourage us to really celebrate these special days. This year, though, as we’ve all experienced, has been a little different. We can’t necessarily go where we want to go or do what we normally do to celebrate. Just the ability to gather is a luxury, and not everyone can afford it right now. What can we do then?

In  episode I'll share 7 simple ways to make special days special, no matter the circumstances, because, even now, we are worth celebrating.

Plus, stick around for this week's delicious Little Joy, and a custom playlist that is cozy, jazzy, and perfect for autumn.

Autumn Movie Night w/ my sister Sarah07 Oct 202000:42:47

Hello, and welcome to episode 7 of Life on the Brink, and my first ever guest on the show!

You know how you only watch Christmas movies within the month of December?
Well I sometimes wait to watch any of my favorite movies until the season matches it. It’s not even necessarily the season in which the film is set (though it can be), it’s more the vibe the movie gives me. It's such a lovely thing to look forward to, so today I've brought on my sister Sarah to share:

-What makes a film an "autumn movie"
-Our (loose) Top 10 favorite picks
-The secret Perkins family popcorn
-Sarah's Little Joy

Plus I'm sharing an album that is not only the soundtrack to our #1 Fall movie, but makes for a sweet season listen this time of year.

The Essentials of Tea + why it's wonderful23 Sep 202000:46:00

Hello, and welcome to episode 6 of Life on the Brink!

This episode has me particularly excited because it’s about TEA.

I love tea so much, but I’ve found that it has the potential to be pretty intimidating, or at least confusing. I posed this question on my Instagram and was met with some interesting questions that I hadn’t thought of before. I personally love drinking and learning about this fun little plant, and today I hope to help answer some of those questions.

Today we’ll explore:
-how tea compares to coffee
-the different types of teas (and a few important variations)
-what the deal is with loose-leaf tea and how it compares to tea bags.
-a few of my personal favorite blends
-how to make a perfect cup of tea!

Plus, stick around for this week’s Little Joy and tea-inspired album perfect for the season. I can guarantee that by the end of this episode, you’ll be craving a nice, warming, comforting cup of tea (if you’re not already sipping one.)

A Restful Christmas at Home: slowing down, simplifying, and enjoying holiday comforts12 Dec 202400:47:51

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 121 of Life On the Brink!

Every Christmas is unique, but this year is so unlike any other. This year I’m a mom and it’s my little girl’s very first Christmas, which is so special! It also means that I have less time and less energy than most holiday seasons of the past.

I usually do the absolute most during the Christmas season, and while I do love the hustle and bustle, it’s draining. So this year I’m doing what’s necessary, and letting the rest go. In the place of some of that hustle, I’m enjoying slower days, mostly at home with my little family, and today I’m sharing some of those days with you. Activities, crafts, recipes, music, all the things that are making this (very different) Christmas season more restful and beautiful.

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a very popular joy right now, but nevertheless so inspiring and enjoyable, and I'm sharing the holiday album I've had on repeat this Christmas season.

The Quarantine Garden Phenomenon + how to start one14 Jun 202000:26:05

Hello, and welcome to the second installment of Life on the Brink!

And as it turns out, this trend of turning to the garden in a time of panic is nothing new. It’s actually part of a much older war-time tradition that has simply resurfaced in a new way, so today I’d like to share some of my historical and personal findings in this year’s garden season. It might even empower you to start one of your own!

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 120 of Life On the Brink!

We're back again with another installment of the Movie Night series, this time in a celebration of cooking, food, and the gathering that happens around it. I'm once again joined by my sister Sarah as we discuss our favorite "foodie" movies and how a movie night can be an extension of the onscreen meals. So fun, and perfect for this time of year!

We have quite a bit in common, mostly that we agree on a lot of our favorite movies and that we love a theme, so we always have a ton of fun when we have these chats.

Plus, Sarah shares a fun new recipe and I've got a new playlist of music just for this episode.

Best Books of 2025!08 Jan 202600:43:49

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 132 of Life On the Brink!

It’s time once again for one of my favorite episodes of the year, the always-beloved “favorite-books-i-read-last-year” episode. I was fortunate in encountering so many 5-star reads in 2025, and it seems no book on this list is like another- though I can’t recommend this list of books enough. After ending last year in a bit of a busy-season reading-slump, I’m so excited to get back into a new year of books.

Now’s the perfect time to stack your TBR for the new year!

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a strike against SAD and I have a groovy new playlist that works for any social occasion.

Pregnancy Q&A- Part 2: third trimester, nesting, birth plan, etc.09 May 202400:46:23

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 114 of Life On the Brink!

I’m officially entering the ninth month of pregnancy, which is totally wild to say! Around the 20 week mark I shared the beginning of our pregnancy journey and had a little Q&A, and this week I’m back with Part 2! I’m at 35 weeks now, and though I still have a month or so to go, I’m definitely in a different headspace than I was back in January.

This Q&A will focus more on the third trimester, nursery and nesting, and plans for birth and postpartum. It’s so crazy to think that I could really meet this little girl in just a few weeks!

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a very Nancy Meyer's-inspired moment, and I'm sharing a happy, calming album that's kind of the inspiration for my labor playlist.
