| 301. "Recovery from sugar addiction is a zigzag journey": Paige | 18 oct. 2026 | 00:38:05 | |
In this episode, I’m joined by Paige, who explains what "nervous system regulation" means with relation to recovery from sugar addiction. Paige’s message is that when we reach for food under stress, the real issue is a nervous system that has gone into emergency mode. A calm brain doesn’t crave, so her approach starts with calming the body and using the small pause between a thought and an action. Paige also talks about why the third week after reducing or cutting sugar is usually the hardest, and what happens to your taste buds and cravings if you keep going. She believes real change comes from slowly retraining the brain, one small step at a time, and that every time you get through a craving, the next one comes back a little weaker. Paige goes into more detail in her new book: Real Food Recovery: If Food isn’t the Answer, What’s the Question? Paige has only one rule when it comes to recovery. | 299. How to maintain weight loss and a sugar free life: Susan | 04 oct. 2026 | 00:30:03
Susan Peirce Thompson, PhD, is a former food addict and the founder of Bright Line Eating. She and I recorded Episode 125 back in June 2023. Susan is back on the podcast to talk about her new book, Maintain, the fifth book in her series about food addiction and weight loss. In this episode, we talk about what happens after you lose the weight and why maintaining it can be harder than people expect. A big part of that is learning what to do when you’re no longer using food, especially foods that contain refined sugar and flour, to deal with boredom, stress or difficult emotions. Susan explains the three identity shifts she believes are important for maintaining weight loss: becoming devoted, resourced and liberated. We also talk about dopamine and why some of us are more likely to reach for food when we’re stressed or tired, and Susan shares her 90-second practice for feeling an emotion instead of trying to make it go away. And you'll hear about how to develop the skills to respond differently to cravings and emotions, because sugar can keep us stuck in the cycle of using food to avoid feelings, rather than learning how to deal with those feelings in a different way. | 298. "Sugar cravings are linked to dehydration": John | 27 sept. 2026 | 00:34:33
In this episode, I’m talking with John about sugar cravings, hydration, and what he calls “intracellular hydration.” John shares his story of growing up in Columbus, Ohio, becoming a sugar addict, and eventually developing a very different perspective on health and the role of sugar and especially hydration in the body. John surprises me with his fascinating “marbles and sponges” analogy to explain intracellular hydration. He also explains why he believes sugar cravings are connected to dehydration. And we talk about something I'm sure you can relate to: when it comes to sugar, moderation simply doesn’t work for everyone. John shares his own experience with sugar cravings and what changed for him when he stopped craving sugar. Martin was a guest on the Life After Sugar podcast on Episode 110 in February 2023. He’s back to ask me some questions about sugar, to talk about his new book, and also about the concept of an "irrevocable commitment". Martin practises intermittent fasting. But he’s continued to have something sweet after dinner, which is a habit that goes back to childhood (nothing wrong with that!). In this episode, we talk about:

| 296. "Some people can moderate sugar, some can't": Heike | 13 sept. 2026 | 00:35:33 | |
Heike grew up in Germany eating lots of sugar and large portions, and she was overweight by the time she was a teenager. After moving to the United States in her early 20s, she discovered a very different food environment than the one she was expecting. She was surprised by how much fast food, fried food, burgers, French fries and starch-heavy foods there were, and how little emphasis there seemed to be on vegetables. In this episode, we talk about:

| 295. What we’re getting wrong about nutrition and sugar: Dr. Nathan | 06 sept. 2026 | 00:39:03 | |
Dr. Nathan Bryan has spent years researching human health and physiology... but during his medical training, he received zero dedicated training in nutrition. In this episode, we talk about what he learned after his medical training and through his research, and how the nutritional quality of our food has degraded over time. Dr. Nathan and I talk about how we consumers need to educate ourselves (which is easier said than done with all the confusing info out there!). We also talk about sugar, insulin resistance, intermittent fasting, nutrient deficiencies, and whether supplements can help fill the gaps in our diet. Dr. Nathan challenges some of the assumptions we’ve come to accept about nutrition and health, and explains what his research has taught him about what your body actually needs (hint: it's NOT sugar!). | 293. "I ate sugar because I didn't feel loved": Sharon | 23 août 2026 | 00:36:28
For Sharon, sugar was much more than a sweet treat. Sugary foods were something she used to help her through all-nighters and cope with difficult times. But eventually, she realized that sugar was was helping her cope with difficult relationships and family issues. In this episode, Sharon shares her journey from eating brownie batter straight from the bowl to adopting a raw vegan lifestyle. She talks about the difficult events that fuelled her sugar addiction, and the moment she realized she didn't want to spend the next 40 or 50 years feeling miserable. Most importantly, Sharon explains how she came to see the connection between food, her emotions, her self-talk, and the rest of her life, and how getting off the sugar roller coaster became part of a much bigger shift in herself. | 292. "Sugar, inflammation, and heart health are connected": Dr. Boone | 16 août 2026 | 00:40:45
What does sugar have to do with heart disease? According to Dr. Geoffrey Boone, preventive cardiologist, much more than most people realize. After decades of helping people prevent heart disease, he explains how sugar contributes to inflammation, damages the lining of the arteries, and why these changes can begin years before any symptoms appear. In this episode, we talk about why Dr. Boone believes prevention still isn't the main focus of healthcare, how modern imaging can detect heart disease long before a heart attack, and why highly processed foods have become such a problem. We also discuss why moderation isn't always realistic for people with sugar addiction, where lifestyle changes fit alongside medication, and the practical steps you can take today to protect your heart for the long term. | 291. The power of support and accountability | 09 août 2026 | 00:19:03
You've probably tried to stop eating sugar on your own. More than once. And it can work for a while. You promise yourself you'll do better, you rely on willpower, and maybe you even have a few good days or weeks. But when life gets stressful or overwhelming, it's all too easy to slip back into old habits. In this episode, I talk about why lasting freedom from sugar cravings isn't about having more knowledge or finding the perfect meal plan. It's about getting the right support and accountability while you make changes that actually last. You'll also hear an excerpt from one of the accountability calls inside my Freedom from Cravings Formula program, where Anne shares the value of having the support of others:
Because sometimes, what makes the biggest difference isn't another strategy. It's having someone there to support you and help you stay the course. | 290. "Sweet foods helped me to cope with my emotions": Lisa | 02 août 2026 | 00:35:26
Many of us turn to sugar or comfort food without really understanding why. In fact, most of us haven't been taught how to name or cope with our emotions. For Lisa, emotional eating became a way of coping with life's difficult moments when she was a child. It wasn't until much later in life that she began to uncover what she really needed to do when her emotions overwhelmed her. In this episode, Lisa shares how childhood experiences, including the loss of her brother at the age of six, shaped her relationship with food. We talk about emotional eating, self-compassion, people-pleasing, and why cravings are often pointing to something much deeper than hunger. Lisa also shares practical ways to pause before reacting to a craving, recognize what you're really feeling, and begin responding with kindness rather than self-criticism. | 289. "I realized sugar was making me crash": Jodi | 26 juil. 2026 | 00:30:08
A dramatic sugar crash during a swimming race at just 11 years old became the turning point that shaped Jodie's entire approach to health. In this episode, Jodi shares how that early experience led her to question the role of sugar, discover the power of whole foods, and become much more aware of how food affects the body. We also explore inflammation, the gut and skin microbiome, why what you eat shows up on your skin, and how Jodi's decision to eat differently led to her creating a line of natural plant-based skincare products. Jodi talks about about paying attention to your body's signals, and challenging what we've been taught about food. And it can all begin with a few simple changes. | 288. GLP-1 drugs versus cutting sugar | 19 juil. 2026 | 00:21:15
Did you know that your body already makes its own natural version of Ozempic? In this episode, you'll hear how GLP-1 works as a natural hormone, and why drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy exist: they copy the same hormone but are designed to last much longer. You'll hear how the GLP-1 that naturally disappears from your body in two minutes got turned into an appetite-reducing drug that lasts a full week. You'll also hear about what happens to people's weight after they stop taking GLP-1 drugs, as well as what leptin resistance actually is, and whether cutting sugar can reverse it better than GLP-1 drugs. Are GLP-1 drugs for you? Or does cutting sugar give the same result? And are you ready to go deeper and ask yourself why you turn to sugar to fill an emotional need? Only you have the answer! | 287. "I reversed my prediabetes when I cut out processed sugar": Dr. Jonar | 12 juil. 2026 | 00:36:04
In this episode, you'll hear from Dr. Jonar, an internal medicine physician and lifestyle medicine expert, about his own struggle with processed sugar. Sugar was at the heart of Dr. Jonar's emotional eating, insulin resistance, and prediabetes. He explains why so many chronic diseases are driven by lifestyle, why nutrition receives so little attention in medical training, and how processed sugar affects the brain, the gut microbiome, and long-term health. We also discuss sugar addiction, diabetes, GLP-1 medications, the role of the microbiome, and why changing your habits is more often the key to lasting health than taking medications. Dr. Jonar's story offers you practical insights and an encouraging reminder that deep and lasting change is possible, even after a diagnosis of prediabetes. | 286. "My perfectionism led to emotional eating": Meg | 05 juil. 2026 | 00:37:30
In this episode, Meg shares how she was diagnosed with anorexia at just 13 years old, and spent the next 16 years in and out of treatment before finally reaching full recovery in her late twenties. You'll hear Meg talk candidly about what it was like to be a dangerously underweight teenager caught in a cycle of perfectionism and control. Meg describes what treatment actually looked like for her, and the gap she found between learning coping tools in a clinical setting and applying them in real life. You'll also hear how her eating disorder evolved into emotional eating in her early twenties, with cycles of bingeing and restricting, and the moment on her living room couch that finally pushed her to seek a different kind of recovery. If you've ever turned to food to cope with anxiety, boredom, sadness, or even excitement, you'll relate to so much of what Meg shares. Meg finally found freedom through her concept of the "seven bodies", and she explains how emotional eating often comes from trying to fill the wrong kind of empty. We also talk about intuitive eating, and how it's possible to eat "whatever you want, whenever you want" including choosing not to eat sugar, flour, or other foods that don't make your body feel good. | 285: Life after sugar - Keep it simple! | 28 juin 2026 | 00:19:57
What if the thing standing between you and your "life after sugar" isn't sugar at all? What if it's the way you think? In this episode, you'll learn about a trap so many women fall into: a habit of overcomplicating things until failure feels inevitable. You know the pattern. You set an impossible rule, break it by lunchtime, throw in the towel, and reach for the sugar because... well, you already "messed up." You'll also find out why a sugar-free life may be perceived as being complicated, when the truth is the opposite. It's the processed food industry that's selling you convenience, but you're paying for it later in energy crashes, brain fog, and blood sugar spikes that leave you hungry minutes after eating. So in this episode you'll get some time-saving strategies to simplify food prep. You'll also hear a real clip from a coaching call with one of my Freedom from Cravings Formula clients about how she's learning to make her life much simpler... and how you can too. | 284. "Mindful eating can help you when life gets busy": Cassandra | 21 juin 2026 | 00:45:02
Cassandra grew up on a classic American diet, sugar included. It wasn't until her 20s that she started noticing the connection between what she was eating and how she was feeling. As someone with ADHD, the moment she cut out sugar and experienced real mental clarity for the first time, there was no going back. In this episode, Cassandra explains what mindful eating is: It means bringing awareness to what you eat, how you eat it, and how it makes you feel. We talk about why North American food culture works against us, how to set yourself up for healthier choices without overhauling your entire life, and why developing mindful eating habits is more powerful than any food or diet rule. | 283. "Your gut health and your cravings are connected": Zuzu | 14 juin 2026 | 00:36:39
What's the connection between gut health and sugar cravings? In this episode, ZuZu, a holistic healthcare practitioner, explains how poor gut health, candida, and SIBO can actually drive your cravings, and why healing the gut can make those cravings disappear almost entirely. She also explains why your body only needs one teaspoon of sugar in the bloodstream at any given time, why grains and starches count as sugar, and how excess sugar damages the nervous system and why this affects everything from digestion to neurotransmitter production. So if you've been struggling with bloating, constipation, or diarrhea that nothing seems to fix, Zuzu's explanation of SIBO and methane overgrowth might finally give you some answers. Her biggest piece of advice? Learn about your body. Because when you understand what's happening inside, you stop being afraid of it, and you become your own best health advocate. | 282. Why aren't I sugar free yet? | 07 juin 2026 | 00:22:51
If you've ever asked yourself the question: Why aren't I sugar free yet? with frustration, this episode is for you. In my experience, one of the most common — and most damaging — expectations around going sugar-free is that it should happen instantly, completely, and permanently. Spoiler: it doesn't always work that way, and it doesn't have to. In fact, I challenge the idea that going sugar-free should be instant and effortless — like someone waving a magic wand. (Me, for example!) Actually, being sugar-free isn't just about how much sugar you eat, it's about how you feel about sugar. And because we're all different, there's no single timeline or threshold that defines what sugar-free looks like. For some people, freedom comes from gradually reducing sugar. For others, it means cutting it out completely. And everything in between is valid. As an example, in this episode I hand over the mic to Maria, a participant in the Freedom From Cravings Formula program, who expresses beautifully how she feels about sugar now. My guest this week is Helen Ye, who grew up in Guangzhou, China. In this episode, Helen shares how she learned from an early age that food is medicine and that balance is everything. As an Ayurveda practitioner and psychic, she brings a fascinating Eastern perspective to what's really driving cravings for sweets and sugar. Helen explains the difference between Eastern and Western sugar, and why some people are more prone to sugar addiction. She also goes deeper into why healing your inner child may be at the root of healing your cravings. Helen also explains how building a daily meditation practice and tuning into your body's intuition can reduce cravings in a way that no diet plan ever could. | 280. "Your life can be so much sweeter without sugar": Dr. Kelly | 24 mai 2026 | 00:37:36
In this episode, I'm talking with Dr. Kelly McCann, a medical doctor with a background in integrative medicine, and she connects the dots between mold exposure, gut health, and sugar cravings in a way I've never heard before. And then she takes it even deeper — into the emotional and spiritual side of why we reach for sweetness in the first place. Because as Dr. Kelly explains, sugar cravings aren't just about willpower or habit. | 278. "Cutting sugar can help lessen symptoms of Hashimoto's": Monica | 10 mai 2026 | 00:33:55
Monica grew up in Australia with pretty health-conscious parents. But as life got busier and more stressful, she started eating more and more sugar. And eventually, working in the health industry of all places, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. In this episode, Monica breaks down what Hashimoto's actually is, why it's so often missed or misdiagnosed for years, and why sugar plays a much bigger role in this autoimmune condition than most people — and most doctors — realize. This one is especially relevant if you're a woman in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, because as Monica explains, hormonal shifts like perimenopause and menopause are one of the most common triggers for Hashimoto's to develop or flare up. Now Monica helps other mums do what she had to figure out herself — get to the root of what's driving their Hashimoto's so they can finally feel like themselves again. | 277. "I'm more connected with my body when I don't eat sugar": Suann | 03 mai 2026 | 00:24:26
Suann grew up in northeastern Canada eating the way most of us did: a diet full of sugary cereals and processed foods. But when she grew older, she started listening to her body. She became vegetarian, then vegan, moved off-grid, and built a life that suits her. And she's never felt more free. In this conversation, we talk about what Suann calls embodiment — what it actually means to feel at home in your body, to know what it needs, and to trust it. And how that connects to the way we eat, the way we move, and the way we show up in the world. If you've ever felt judged or like an outsider because of the way you eat, or you've struggled to feel comfortable in your own skin, this episode is for you. | 276. Which is worse: cholesterol or insulin? | 26 avr. 2026 | 00:21:01
In this episode, I want to talk about something that confuses a lot of people: cholesterol. What it actually is, why your body needs it, and why the LDL number on your lab report doesn't tell the whole story. A new documentary that just came out in April 2026 called The Cholesterol Code got me thinking. It follows Dave Feldman, an engineer who went low-carb, stabilized his blood sugar, felt great, but then saw his LDL go up, and decided to find out why. What he discovered is turning a lot of what we thought we knew about cholesterol and heart disease upside down. Because here's the thing — what if LDL cholesterol isn't really the villain we've been told it is? What if the real problem is chronically elevated insulin? In this episode, I ask the questions:
Science is about asking questions, and these ones may challenge 50 years of conventional wisdom about cholesterol, statins, insulin, and heart disease. John grew up in Indiana eating Hungry Man dinners, boxes of sugary cereal, and green-frosted Ninja Turtle pies... and no-one ever told him sugar was a problem! By his early 30s he was pushing 290 pounds, prediabetic, and on blood pressure medication. After discovering low-carb eating and spending years experimenting with ketosis, John learned how to train his body to burn fat instead of sugar and refined carbs for fuel. John's wake-up call at age 46 led him to build Rebel Health Alliance, which is a virtual clinic available across all 50 states where physicians, dietitians, strength coaches, and genetic counselors all work together on the client's behalf. Today at 50, John is lean at 6'4" and 220 pounds, and is training to qualify for a marathon! | 274. "My faith helped me quit sugar": Christine | 12 avr. 2026 | 00:34:07
Christine spent 30 years trapped in the cycle of yo-yo dieting. She tried everything from Weight Watchers to a hospital-supervised liquid protein program. But nobody ever taught her why her body was working against her. In this episode, Christine opens up about growing up on the Standard American Diet (SAD), the childhood bullying that shaped her relationship with food, and how she reached 230 pounds. It was when she began to understand the role of insulin, carbohydrate intolerance, and emotional eating in her health struggles that her life changed. But Christine's story doesn't stop at weight loss. She shares how a renewed daily Bible practice transformed her spiritual life and helped her realize she had been filling the "holes in her soul" with food — and how that breakthrough became the foundation of her coaching methodology for Christian women. | 271. "White sugar and flour were our biggest triggers": Violet | 22 mars 2026 | 00:27:35
When Violet's husband’s health crisis forced them to look for solutions, sugar and white flour weren’t even on the list. In this episode, Violet shares how her husband’s Crohn’s disease led them to completely rethink the way they eat. They were trying to keep him off of meds because he didn't like the side effects that came with them. But when their version of healthy eating wasn't working, Violet and her husband decided to dive into functional medicine. And that really changed their whole perspective on nutrition. They immediately cut all sugar and all gluten. And to their amazement, their health got so much better! Violet also talks about baking without white flour, navigating family meals and eating out, and how they’re raising young kids on mostly whole foods without making it feel restrictive. This is an inspiring story of how cutting white sugar and flour changed Violet's and her husband's lives, and how it will also have a positive ripple effect on their children. If you’ve ever thought about cutting sugar, flour, and processed foods, it's better to be prepared for what you might experience. In this episode, I talk about the symptoms people often call “detox” and what’s actually happening in the body during that transition. We look at why you might be peeing more, why headaches are so common, what metabolic flexibility means, cravings, and why the brain and body can feel temporarily worse before they start to feel better. I also talk about what helps during this phase, including food, salt, rest, and why this is not the time to pile on more restriction. | 268. How perfectionism gets in the way of healthy eating: Courtney | 01 mars 2026 | 00:38:21
You can do everything “right” and still not feel like you're "good enough". In this episode, I talk with Courtney, a health coach and former dancer, about growing up in diet culture, and how looking healthy on the outside doesn't always reflect how we feel on the inside. We talk about why weight loss so often backfires (hint: it's not your fault!). And we also talk about how perfectionism undermines consistency. | 267. How to feel in control of sugar cravings after 50 | 22 févr. 2026 | 00:19:37
If you’re over 50 and sugar cravings feel stronger or harder to manage than they used to, you’re not imagining it. In this episode (which I recorded a few weeks before my 56th birthday), I talk about what’s actually happening in the body after midlife and why the strategies that used to work often stop working. For most of us, shifting hormones affect blood sugar, stress, sleep, and cravings, so it's understandable that sugar can start to feel like the quickest way to calm yourself down. But sugar's not a real friend. It's a coping mechanism that will end up sabotaging your best efforts. So in this episode, I share practical, real-life examples of how to build new coping skills and regulation pathways that don’t rely on sugar or snacks. The reality is that cravings may happen in your life, but by supporting your nervous system, your gut, and your hormones, you can learn to develop regulation tools that are realistic and sustainable for you, so that you don't need to turn to sugar and comfort foods anymore. You probably don’t need more health information. Chances are, you’re already overwhelmed by it. In this episode, I talk with Jenn Trepeck, health coach and author of Uncomplicating Wellness, about why eating well and taking care of yourself has become so confusing, and why it doesn’t have to be. We talk about how to make sense of all the conflicting nutrition headlines, why chasing the “right” plan often backfires, and how you can learn to listen to your own body. Jenn and I also talk about sugar cravings, and how you can shift the focus to nourishing yourself on all levels in order to experience wellness. | 265. "Cravings begin in the mind": Dr. David | 08 févr. 2026 | 00:29:47
Cravings don’t usually come out of nowhere. They’re often the body’s way of asking for relief, comfort, or a break from stress, even when it feels like the craving is “just for sugar.” In this episode, my guest is Dr. David Clark, a board-certified gastroenterologist who spent decades working not only with people who suffer with digestive issues, but also chronic pain, fatigue, and cravings. In this fascinating conversation, we explore what Dr. David calls neuroplastic symptoms: how cravings begin in the mind, and can be a signal about your deeper needs rather than a failure of willpower. And also why lasting change usually involves more than simply removing sugar from your diet. If you’ve ever felt stuck fighting cravings and wondered why cutting sugar wasn’t enough, this conversation will probably resonate with you. What is emotional eating? For a long time, I didn’t think emotional eating had anything to do with me. I thought I just liked sugar. I thought I needed more discipline. I thought I should “do better.” You may relate. In this episode, I share my own experience with comfort foods and the role sugar played in helping me cope and unwind at the end of a long day. I talk about why comfort foods feel so comforting, how emotional eating is different from trauma responses. | 262. Natural sugars, added sugars, and nutritional guidelines | 18 janv. 2026 | 00:18:36
What actually counts as a whole food — and why does that matter when it comes to sugar? In this episode, I unpack the difference between foods with added sugars and whole foods that naturally contain sugar, like fruit and dairy. I talk about what “minimally processed” really means, why "food products" that contain forms of added sugars have quietly become part of everyday eating... and how all of this affects cravings, blood sugar, and our general health. I also give my own opinion on the latest US nutrition guidelines that were published in January 2026. I'm not a nutrition expert, but in this episode I share what I've experienced over the last 10 years eating whole foods that don't contain added sugars. | 261. “Sugar isn't a treat for me anymore”: Mirinda | 11 janv. 2026 | 00:34:22
In this episode, Mirinda shares her honest journey with sugar, dieting, and the lifelong food noise so many women know well. Growing up with mixed messages about food and years of yo-yo dieting, Mirinda explains how sugar slowly began to rule her mood, her thoughts, and her sense of self. We talk about what finally changed: shifting away from weight loss and rules, and toward nourishing her body, stabilizing blood sugar, and focusing on how food actually made her feel. Mirinda shares how letting go of processed sugar, eating real food and healthy fats, and listening to her body brought a level of freedom she never thought was possible. She also reframes the idea of a “treat,” explaining how sugar stopped being something she used for comfort or reward and how choosing foods that help her feel good became the most loving kind of treat. This conversation is about more than sugar. It’s about breaking the diet mentality, releasing guilt and perfectionism, and redefining what a “treat” really means — not as restriction or indulgence, but as choosing what helps you feel good, mentally and physically. | 260. “Your body needs less sugar and more real foods and healthy fats”: Dr. Aaron | 04 janv. 2026 | 00:38:43
In this episode, I’m joined by Aaron, a family physician who explains why most doctors get surprisingly little training in nutrition — and how that gap shaped the way medicine treats chronic disease. Aaron shares how his upbringing influenced his relationship with sugar, why Type 2 diabetes in kids has risen so dramatically. Aaron also talks about the personal turning point that changed his approach to health: adopting his daughter and fighting to support her with real food instead of default medical “standard care.” We also talk about why real food — including healthy fats — simplifies so much of the confusion around sugar and processed foods... and why meaningful change in healthcare may need to come from the bottom up, with patients becoming more informed and asking better questions. | 256. "I can manage my Type 1 diabetes with less sugar": Ty | 07 déc. 2025 | 00:41:16
In this episode, I’m chatting with Ty, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just 8 years old. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the pancreas stops making insulin, so the body can’t regulate blood sugar on its own and needs insulin from injections or a pump to survive. Ty takes us behind the scenes of what that has really looked like: from massive early insulin pumps, constant injections, organ transplants, and dialysis, to the medical tech that’s helped him survive and thrive. We talk about sugar, carbs, food, mindset, and what it’s actually like to live with a condition people can’t see but that affects every single part of his day. | 254. How to get more energy with less sugar: Uma | 23 nov. 2025 | 00:33:24
In this episode, I talk with Uma, a health coach and yoga teacher based in South Africa. Uma shares her personal journey of growing up with a diet full of sugar and flour, how her health began to decline, and what finally inspired her to make a change. Uma opens up about the fear of developing diabetes, which runs in her family, and how she learned to take control of her health, not just through food, but by exploring the deeper emotional and energetic roots of stress and cravings. We explore how processed foods and starches play a hidden role in blood sugar issues, and how emotional eating is often a signal from the nervous system. Uma offers simple, powerful tools—like mindful breathing, movement, and energy awareness—to help calm the body and reduce cravings. This conversation is an inspiring reminder that lasting change doesn’t require perfection, just the willingness to come back to yourself, one small step at a time. In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Carolyn Dean, who is a medical doctor, naturopath, and author of Exposing Sugar Toxicity. We discuss sugar and cravings, and how they’re often linked to much more than willpower. The main culprit could actually be yeast overgrowth. | 252. The link between self-esteem and sugar | 09 nov. 2025 | 00:28:51
In this episode, I explore the emotional side of sugar cravings, and how low self-esteem can quietly keep us stuck in the sugar cycle. This episode was inspired by Patra, a member of my Freedom From Cravings Formula program. Patra gave me permission to share a part of her background and how years of guilt, self-criticism, and “never feeling good enough” affected her self-esteem and shaped her relationship with food, especially sugar. You'll also hear about the scientific reason our brain naturally looks for short-term ways to feel better with sugar. But when you start replacing sugar with self-compassion, you can develop healthier ways to make peace with food... and yourself. This episode is about letting go of perfectionism and realizing that you’re not broken — you’re human.
