| REPLAY - Round Table Chat on Realigning Fatherhood: Bridging the gap between words and actions | 10 Sep 2024 | 01:15:38 | |
*This is a replay series of previously released episodes, as I prepare all new episodes with new guests. New episodes will be back on the regular by Oct 2024. This replay series are the top 4 most listener to episodes and although we can't have favourite - they are very loved by me too!* Mike is the founder of Good Blokes Co, which empowers men and boys to break down restrictive gender norms and to step up as leaders of a healthier culture of masculinity.
In this episode we discuss: - The qualities a man who is living in alignment with being a family man would possess, and the cost to women who aren’t receiving these from their partner. - How men are socialised to act in ways that are at odds with the way they must act as fathers, and often lack a blueprint of how to show up in this role. - The evolution of what “providing” for your family means and what this truly entails, and the importance of presence, emotional connection and safety. - How to navigate conversations within relationships about this issue, and the importance of using “I” statements and noticing when your nervous system is flooded. - The power of therapy, the reasons why men may resist it and the importance of men having support and spaces they can go to be vulnerable and share their experiences. This is such a rich conversation that I hope will leave you feeling less alone and empower men to redefine their roles as fathers and partners. REFERENCED RESOURCES - ‘Fair Play’, by Eve Rodsky

Hi mamas. Today on the podcast, I’m joined by Jacqueline Kelly, a matrescence coach who supports mothers who feel like they’ve lost themselves in motherhood. Founding Our Brave Hearts, Jacqueline works to challenge the unrealistic standards of motherhood that we are encouraged to aspire to and to support mums in rediscovering and reclaiming their confidence.
In this beautiful conversation, Jacqueline reflects on her own journey of matrescence and her transition from the freedom, adventure and spontaneity of living overseas to having her sense of self imploded when she became a mother. We discuss the romanticism of her notions of motherhood prior to having children, the identity crisis she experienced within the reality of it, where she has experienced the most growth along the journey, and the duality of the joys and the losses of motherhood.
We also discuss:
And much more. I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation today as much as I loved having it.

| Rachael Shepard-Ohta on Taking The Pressure off Baby Sleep and The Relinquishing of Control in Motherhood | 07 May 2024 | 00:45:38 | |
Hi mamas. Today on the podcast, I’m joined by Rachael Shepard-Ohta, who is a certified sleep consultant, a parent educator, content creator, podcaster, mother of three and founder of Hey Sleep Baby. I had the pleasure of being on Rachael’s podcast, No One Told Us, last year and I was so happy to have the opportunity to have another wonderful conversation with her here.
In this episode, we discuss Rachael’s expectations prior to becoming a mother and how her lived experience compared to this, and in particular, the relinquishing of control that comes with parenthood and how this can bring out a part of ourselves that we may not have had much contact with prior to becoming a parent.
We also talk about Rachael’s journey to starting Hey Sleepy Baby, following her own negative experience with sleep training her first child as a response to outside pressure surrounding her baby’s sleep, and the passion this ignited in her to challenge the status quo of baby sleep advice.
We also discuss:
- The versions of ourselves from before we had children, the transition parenthood brings and how, when we feel resistance or struggles in our mothering, it is often due to these parts of our former selves that are still there and are needing to be seen.
- The challenge of balancing the requirements of career and work alongside motherhood, and in particular both mine and Rachael’s experience of running our own businesses and the challenges this can present in terms of compartmentalising and being present with our children
- Rachael’s experience of postnatal anxiety following the birth of her first child, which was contributed to by the stress and external pressures surrounding her baby’s sleep. We reflect on the preoccupation with baby sleep in these early phases and how this stems from the lack of support within our culture.
- The power of trusting yourself, trusting your mothering, and knowing that nothing that you’re dealing with is forever.
And much more. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Hi mamas. Today on the podcast, I’m joined by Chrissy Powers, a licensed marriage and family therapist, mum, wife, writer and embodiment coach. I’ve been following Chrissy on social media for quite some time and I just love her beautiful, authentic, warm presence, which shines through in this conversation.
In this episode, we discuss Chrissy’s background and some of her early internalised ideas of being the ‘good girl’, how this showed up in her adulthood and her mothering, and her departure from this archetype over time, allowing her to redefine herself according to her own ideals in her thirties and into her forties.
We also discuss purity culture and Chrissy’s experience of growing up in a small evangelical Christian church, the ideals that she was raised with, and the shame, guilt and isolation this culture can create. We discuss this in relation to Chrissy’s experience of parenting her children, and where the line is between what is and what isn’t our job as parents.

| Renee Cachia On Dropping The “Needless Woman” Archetype | 26 Mar 2024 | 01:01:52 | |
Hi mamas. Join me as I speak with Renee Cachia, experienced psychologist and founder of Inner Bloom Psychology Practice. Renee is committed to improving the lives of families by empowering parents with psychoeducation and creating environments for young people to thrive from the inside out. She is a mum to her 2-year-old daughter and, at the time of recording this episode, was pregnant with her second child.
In this conversation, we hear about Renee’s journey as a mother; her experience of reinventing herself, and the importance of identifying, and then advocating, for your needs. This is something so many of us find difficult due social and cultural expectations which often position mothers as “needless women” who exist only to care and nurture those around them.
We also discuss:
- Renee’s experience of having a pandemic baby and the challenges that she navigated during a period of the unknown.
- The importance of self-compassion in mothering, and reframing ‘self-care’ as mothering the mother within us.
- Leaning into the tenderness of the matrescence process
- And the why understanding your own values is key to mothering on your terms.
We also share some mantras and mindset shifts that have helped us change our perspective and help regulate our nervous system in times of dysregulation.

| Elyse McNeil on Navigating the Mental Load and Embracing Rest as a Mother | 12 Mar 2024 | 00:57:16 | |
Hi mamas. This week I talk to Dr. Elyse McNeil, Mental Load Expert and Founder of Share to Thrive, who is passionate about helping couples thrive in their relationships by providing them with strategies to help them navigate the mental load of parenthood.
In this beautiful conversation, we discuss Elyse’s preparation for her own transition into mothering, and the kinds of conversations she and her husband had to facilitate sharing the load. We discuss the importance of open and intentional communication early on to avoid unconscious agreements that often lead the default roles that are socially prescribed to us.
We also discuss:
- The importance of both parents being involved in the day to day load of parenting, enabling them both to build skills and confidence together.
- How exploring patriarchal motherhood ideologies can help us distinguish between imposed expectations and our personal standards, leading to self-growth and the release of unrealistic ideals.
- Whether its really possible to split a load 50/50.
- The importance of creating permission to relinquish the need to be productive and to embrace rest in motherhood, and how this needs to be made a priority, rather than an afterthought.
Elyse has such beautiful insights and I hope you enjoy this rich conversation.

| Zoe Blaskey on Self-Compassion and Backing Yourself in Motherhood | 13 Feb 2024 | 00:54:05 | |
Hi mamas. Join me for this beautiful conversation with Zoe Blaskey, mum of two and the woman behind the Motherkind Podcast. Zoe invited me to be a guest on her podcast a few months ago, and so I was excited to return the invite and have her come on Life After Birth to share more of her story and insights with you all.
In this conversation, Zoe shares with me about her own upbringing, and reflects on the ‘credits’ and ‘debits’ of her childhood and the role they played in her life and the forming of her core patterns. We discuss her transition into mothering, and explore what Zoe calls her perfectionist tendencies and her inner critic during her early years of mothering. Zoe talks about the importance and power of self-compassion, re-parenting yourself, and nurturing a kinder inner voice, for your own wellbeing but also to pass this on as a ‘credit’ to our own children.
We also discuss:
- The story behind Zoe starting the Motherkind Podcast and platform.
- The shift that can come from parts work and in finding compassion for the parts within.
- The importance of decision-making, implementing boundaries and living a life of alignment and authenticity.

Hi mamas. This week I talk to Jessie McGarry, Doula and Founder of The Bright Birth Company. Jessie is a mother of four (she was pregnant with her fourth child at the time of recording) and walks with women on their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys as a doula, providing soulful guidance and reminding women they have all the power they need within them. She also mentors other birth workers to create thriving, nourishing businesses supporting over 40 births and working with over 100 women on their pregnancy and postpartum journeys.
In today's episode, we delve into Jessie's mothering journey with a particular focus on her experiences as a young mother, having welcomed her first child at 23. Jessie share what she found challenging about this, as well as the benefits that her youth provided — like open-mindedness and adaptability — and the impact this had on her parenting experience.
We also cover:
- The challenge motherhood brings with regard to the inner work required in the journey, and the work of reparenting yourself as you parent your children.
- The role of play, fun and silliness in motherhood, and some practical methods you can use to connect with your inner child and find out what it is that they are needing more of in your life.
- Trusting in your ability to figure things out and learn as you go, and the gift that it is to your child when you can show them you doing this, so that they have permission to also be human and make mistakes.
- Jessie’s journey to becoming a doula and her love of her work.
Jessie has a refreshing approach to motherhood, and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

| Seeds For Your Garden - Maternal Instinct: Fact or Fiction? | 14 Nov 2023 | 00:34:32 | |
In this solo episode I explore the concept of maternal instinct which fell back onto my radar in recent weeks following a viral video featuring Maggie Dent and Kate Richie. I discuss my own thoughts on this topic, recent research on the neurobiology of the mother and father brain, patriarchal implications; and emphasise the importance of understanding parenting to be a skill that transcends one’s sex or gender and is not dictated by biology alone.

Hi mamas. Join me this week as I talk to Elly Taylor, parenthood preparation and relationship specialist and author of the multi-award-winning book Becoming Us, the Couple's Guide to Parenthood, which aims to help couples bridge the gap between the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of parenthood. In this conversation, Elly talks to me about the disparity between her expectations of motherhood and her lived experience, and how for Elly, her journey to ‘Becoming’ began with an initial period of an ‘undoing’ in the initial years following her having her first child. We discuss Elly’s experience of the changes that occurred in her marriage during her pregnancy and in their early years of navigating parenthood together, and the huge journey she underwent with regard to this through self-development, and seeking true understanding and connection with her partner. We also discuss:
I hope the message that comes through in this conversation is one that gives hope to anyone who is currently going through the intensity of some of the relationship issues we discuss here, to know that the foundations being laid now may be what allows you to have more ease in future seasons of your parenthood, like it did for Elly.

| Minna Dubin on Rage, Compassion, and Challenging 'Good Mother' Assumptions | 24 Oct 2023 | 00:53:33 | |
Hey there mamas and welcome back to another episode of Life After Birth. In this episode, I’m speaking to Minna Dubin, the Author of ‘Mom Rage: The Everyday Crisis of Modern Motherhood.’ I absolutely loved this book and was so excited to invite Minna to speak with me for this episode. Minna’s writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Times, Salon, Parents, Romper, Oprah Daily, MUTHA Magazine and many other publications. As a leading feminist voice on mom rage, Minna has also appeared on MSNBC, Good Morning America, The Tamron Hall Show, NBC10 Boston and NPR. Minna is from California and lives with her husband and two children. In this conversation, we talked about Minna’s experience of becoming a mother and what her difficulties were during this time. We talk about rage in motherhood, exploring the social elements that play a role in this and the power of treating your anger with compassion.
We also discussed: · The intensity that can come with difficult seasons of motherhood and the importance in having faith and self-belief that you can and will make it through these challenging times. We also discuss the power of drawing on previous experiences of when you have overcome challenging times to help foster this belief. · The need for time, space and separateness in mothering and how this is often perceived negatively in our society due to patriarchal internalised modelling that has led to the belief that a ‘good’ mother wants to be around her children and husband all the time and who doesn’t have needs of her own. · Minna’s identity as being a bisexual Queer woman married to a cis-man, how becoming a mother intensified this experience and how she used writing to help process her second ‘coming out’ experience once she was a mother, and the part this played in her returning to herself. - The internalised belief of the “good mother - good child” association that is held in many facets of our society, and how this can manifest in relation to neurodiversity and behavioural differences in children. And much more. I hope you feel seen and heard by listening to this conversation, and enjoy it as much as I did.

| Anna Cusack on Reframing The Postpartum Period, The Power of Letting Go and Mothering as Activism | 10 Oct 2023 | 00:50:06 | |
Hi mama. In this episode, I’m joined by Anna Cusack, a Doula, Speaker, Author and Podcaster who supports women by providing emotional support, advice, resources and organisational assistance through pregnancy decision-making, birth mapping, postpartum planning, birth debriefing and guidance throughout the early stages of parenting. In this conversation, we discuss Anna’s experience of becoming a mother, both in the initial fourth trimester period, and in the months that followed this. We reflect on how the postpartum period is in many ways a lifelong stage, and Anna speaks to her own experience of feeling relatively prepared for the initial fourth trimester period, compared to the later months where she found herself unprepared for the intensity of the period that followed. This was further heightened for Anna by this period of time coinciding with the pandemic. We also discussed:
· The need to slow down in motherhood and how Anna’s awareness of her own tendencies to pull against this meant that she resolutely committed to taking rest seriously in her early stages of motherhood, setting boundaries around her activity. · Reframing the value of motherhood in society and how mothering is activism in itself in the sense that how we consciously choose to raise our children affects not only their lives & how they navigate the world but also shapes the world in which we all live – & also the balance of holding this whilst also honouring the stage of life you are in and what you have the capacity for. · Gender differences in children with regard to privilege, and Anna’s feelings around the implications of this in terms of how to raise her children to be responsible adults. · Our shared experience of how motherhood can bring with it an increased sense of confidence with regard to living life authentically, in alignment and with integrity. … and much much more. | Dr Veronica Eyo on Embracing Change & Developing the Skill of Mothering with Compassion | 26 Sep 2023 | 01:03:06
Hi mama. In this episode of Life After Birth, I’m joined by Veronica Eyo, a maternal mental health therapist who helps mothers as they navigate their motherhood journey, as well as managing symptoms of perinatal mental health. In this conversation, we discuss Veronica’s experience of becoming a mother, and how her reality differed from her pre-motherhood expectation of what it would be like, particularly in the wake of experiencing a difficult birth, which resulted in her entering motherhood carrying feelings of failure. We explore the problematic belief that women are intrinsically natural mothers, and the importance of instead seeing it as a skill to be learned and honed as you go, developing through observation, practice, and trial and error. We also discussed: · The importance of learning to embrace rest in motherhood and the challenges so many of us face in this, especially those with a background of marginalisation where rest simply isn’t in the makeup of our ancestors and was not always available for them.
· Honouring past versions of yourself as well as truly valuing the new behaviours, activities and beliefs that come with the act of mothering, in this new season of your life.
· The challenges of parenting in a way that honours the spirit of your children and how effortful this can be, especially for those who haven’t had experience of this themselves, as there is no blueprint to follow. I absolutely loved speaking to Veronica and I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation too. | Andrea Bombino on Reimagining Strength & Success, Cultural Influences, and Choosing Joy in Motherhood | 12 Sep 2023 | 01:11:26
Hi mamas. Join me this week as I talk to Andrea Bombino, a Career and Business Coach who helps mothers navigate matrescence and step into new mindsets that accommodate their new roles as mothers AND their career aspirations. Andrea’s ethos that motherhood can be done differently shines through our conversation, and I’m so excited to be sharing it with you. In this conversation, Andrea reflects on her experience of having a baby in the pandemic, and touches on her experience of miscarriage. We discuss Andrea’s background and the various cultural influences that played a role in her upbringing, and her choices to do motherhood differently and break away from some of the ideals and norms she grew up with, especially as they relate to mothering and outdated gender roles. We also discuss the concepts of martyrdom, perfectionism, strength, and the “superwoman”. Andrea also shares her refreshing approach to taking the path of least resistance in parenting, the many merits of this, and the importance of giving yourself permission to choose yourself and to choose joy. We also discuss the importance of valuing and honouring whichever season of motherhood and of life you may be currently in, and acceptance the everchanging cyclical nature of motherhood. I so enjoyed this refreshing and nourishing conversation with Andrea and I hope you enjoy it too.

| Seeds For Your Garden - The Magic of Being Heard in Hard Seasons of Parenting | 05 Sep 2023 | 00:18:32 | |
Hi mamas! I was inspired to record this chat as I was listening to a voice message from a friend who was thanking me for providing a space for her to be heard and seen in her mothering challenges. We jointly reflected on how relieved we both felt after our conversation and it left me wondering about other mothers in my community that might also be doing it tough in some way. I wondered if hearing that I’m currently in a messy parenting space (and that these phases come and go) might normalise their experience, help them feel less alone and offer them some relief too. I really hope it does just that.

| Amy Molloy on Redefining Success, Welcoming Change and Embracing the Softening | 29 Aug 2023 | 01:05:44 | |
Hi mamas. In this episode, I’m joined by Amy Molloy, an award-winning journalist, editor, author and podcast writer, who produces content for some of the biggest names in global publishing. She is the writer behind the hit podcast, The Space, and as well as writing her own content, she coaches writers through her program -The Book Writing Remedy. In addition to her journalistic work, she is also a qualified counsellor, with advanced studies in grief and loss counselling, child development and effective parenting, and mindfulness-based therapies. She uses this knowledge to write trauma-informed content, with the focus of her work being on storytelling for healing. In this conversation, we discuss Amy’s evolving perception of her own success since becoming a mother, how this has been challenged along the way, and how it’s led to a redefining of what success means to her in this new phase of her life. We discuss the way parenthood inevitably changes you, and how it’s through embracing this change, rather than resisting it, that you can then harness the many strengths that are nurtured through this role. We also discuss the importance of being recognised as your whole self, including your identity as a ‘mother’ within the workplace and professional life, and owning this boldly rather than downplaying this. Amy also shares her lived experience of how being a mother has, in many ways, shaped her career for the better and to more fulfilling ends, and how being a mother has created a softening in her, which has been an asset to the work that she does. We also touch on grief, the fragility of life, and how this relates to parenthood. I so enjoyed speaking to Amy and I hope you get the same value from her perspectives as I did. Enjoy mamas. | REPLAY - Minna Dubin on Rage, Compassion, and Challenging 'Good Mother' Assumptions | 27 Aug 2024 | 00:53:33
*This is a replay series of previously released episodes, as I prepare all new episodes with new guests. This replay series are the top 4 most listener to episodes and although we can't have favourite - they are very loved by me too!* In this episode, I’m speaking to Minna Dubin, the Author of ‘Mom Rage: The Everyday Crisis of Modern Motherhood.’ I absolutely loved this book and was so excited to invite Minna to speak with me for this episode. Minna’s writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Times, Salon, and many other publications.

| Seeds For Your Garden – My partner won’t step up: What do I do with my resentment? | 22 Aug 2023 | 00:29:59 | |
In today’s episode I offer my thoughts to a listener question. This mother asks how to move beyond resentment when her partner (the father) refuses to step up as a parent despite many conversations where she expresses her feelings and needs. This is a really big question and of course there is always more nuance to these situations that I can possibly account for, but I give it my best shot. Many mothers find themselves in this situation, so if this sounds like your life – then please know you are not alone. In discussing my thoughts on this, I explore how patriarchy is implicated, some of the possible benefits for fathers behaving this way, some ideas on where to go next, and finally, I suggest the often avoided reality that sometimes we simply outgrow relationships.
I also want to let you know that I have an earlier episode on this similar topic that I recorded as a round table conversation with Mike Dyson and Erin Spahr. If you want to dive deeper, please head there after listening to this one as it is slightly different.

| Naomi Chrisoulakis: Expectations vs. Reality in Motherhood, Embracing Self-Compassion, and the Journey of Trial, Error & Attunement | 15 Aug 2023 | 01:05:53 | |
Hi everyone, this week I chat to Naomi Chrisoulakis, certified post-natal Doula, podcast host and founder of Cocoon by Naomi, a beautiful resource through which Naomi offers mothers the nourishment they need and the nurturing they deserve. In this discussion, we delve into Naomi’s upbringing and her reflections of it, discussing how various elements of her childhood and early adulthood has affected her on her mothering journey. We discuss Naomi’s optimistic expectations of motherhood prior to becoming a parent, and the jarring contrast between this and her lived reality of the experience, resulting in feelings of failure and shame that so many of us can relate to. We discuss how Naomi came through this, the power of having the harder sides of motherhood validated and the importance of self-compassion, remembering that we are all learning and figuring it out as we go. We discuss one of Naomi’s biggest shifts in motherhood in learning to tune into herself and what felt right of her family, and the importance of granting yourself permission to allow space for trial and error when it comes to mothering. We also touch of people-pleasing tendencies, how these can manifest in mothering, and the beauty that can be found in pushing against these tendencies and standing in your power, even (and especially when) this can feel wobbly. Finally, we also discuss the magic that can be found in women’s circles and in sharing with people who may be a few steps ahead on a similar journey. The overriding message from this conversation and one I hope you will receive too is that you are enough – just being, persevering and trying.

Hi everyone, this week I chat to Alita Blanchard, who is a Parent Coach and Founder of Theawaremama.com.au We first connected through Instagram, where I relate to so much of her content and energy, and I’m excited to be bringing this conversation with her to you today. Through her work, Alita holds space for mothers and helps them soften their high expectations of themselves and gently learn new skills to help them feel more safe, seen, soothed and secure, so that they can offer the same connection and co-regulation to their children. During our discussion, Alita opens up about her experience of motherhood and the profound awakening it brought with it, describing it as “the ultimate breakdown” and the catalyst behind deep personal growth. She shares with me the insights that motherhood provided her with, surrounding her attachment style, emotional suppression, and the elements of herself and her life that weren’t aligned with her true authenticity. We also discuss Alita’s contrasting experiences of parenting her different children, as well as the heartbreaking grief she endured following the loss of her fourth child, which was yet another portal of change and introspection. In this conversation we also discuss the importance of self-compassion in mothering, embracing imperfection, the inherent flaws in so many schools of thought with regards to parenting that perpetuate the myth of “the perfect mother” and how this can create shame, the role attachment theory can play in how we parent, and we define what “village” means to us when it comes to child-rearing, the different ways this can look and why it is so important when it comes to support. This is a rich conversation and I hope you get as much value from Alita’s perspective and wisdom that I did. In this solo episode, I delve into the challenging journey of mothering without a clear blueprint. Many women find themselves in this position, either due to the absence of a maternal role model or their desire to parent differently than their own upbringing. We discuss the importance of inner work before and during motherhood, the struggles of healing while parenting, and finding hope and support in this unique path of mothering. Some of the key points in this episode include: · Doing inner work before becoming a parent & how motherhood can bring new insights and challenges to the healing process. · The Reality of Mothering Without a Clear Blueprint · The burden and challenge of reparenting oneself while parenting a child & the hope amidst the challenge. · The Importance of Taking Breaks from Healing Work · Where to seek support Suggested Reading: The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents

| Tamica Wilder on Radical Self-Love & Embracing Her Erotic Self as a Mother | 18 Jul 2023 | 00:40:00 | |
Hi Mamas. This week, my guest is Tamica Wilder, Australia’s leading Sexologist for Mums, author, and Founder of The Orgasmic Mama. Through her work and the many resources, courses, and retreats she offers through The Orgasmic Mama, Tamica teaches women the tools and frameworks to create sex-positive households for them and their families, and facilitates women to re-attune to the wisdom of their bodies and to shamelessly seek better sex and pleasure. A while back, Tamica chatted to the mothers in my Rebirth program, and her session was incredibly valuable to the women involved, so I’m excited to have her here again to share her experiences and wisdom with you all. In this conversation, Tamica talks about her personal transition into motherhood and the importance of normalising and making space for the changes we experience in our identities when we become mothers. We talk about how Tamica works with women and mothers, and discuss the power of embracing the new version of yourself, reacquainting yourself with who you are now sexually, challenging patriarchal ideals of what a mother ‘should’ be as it pertains to sexuality, and how these shifts can ultimately lead to more pleasure, radical self-love and acceptance. | Seeds For Your Garden – Asking for Help | 11 Jul 2023 | 00:14:29
In this week’s episode of Seeds For Your Garden, I discuss why, as mothers, we often find it so hard to ask for help, and what we can do about it. In my recent conversation with Laura Danger (you can listen to the episode here), we talked about the experience of pandemic parenting, and it got me thinking about how we access support, and why we sometime struggle to. Much as the pandemic amplified these issues, and meant that we were out of practice in asking for help, this is an issue which predates the pandemic and runs a lot deeper, and it’s something I see come up time and time again with my clients. In this episode, I unpack the reasons why we don’t ask for help, including social and family expectations, guilt, fear of judgement or of being a burden, and patriarchal motherhood ideology. I also discuss what we can do to take steps in this area, in the hope that it might help to move you closer to asking for support where it exists when you need it. I also touch on my own experience of becoming a mother and my journey of peeling back the layers of independence, and accepting that my need for community, connection and support isn’t a weakness. The books I reference in this episode are: - The Gift of Imperfection – Brene Brown

| Dr Kyla Smith on Softening, Surrender and Breaking Away from the “Good Girl” Archetype | 04 Jul 2023 | 01:01:09 | |
Join me this week as I talk to Dr, Kyla Smith, a Paediatric Dietitian and Feeding Specialist, a mum of two and founder of the Baby, Toddler and Family Mealtimes online memberships. She supports parents to feed their children with confidence, so they grow up loving food and mealtimes. In our conversation, Kyla opens up about her journey from living a fast-paced, achievement-orientated life, to embracing the transformative role of being a mother. What I especially loved about our conversation was when Kyla talk about how her identity of being a “good girl” has shaped her parenting experience and been challenged along the way. Some other themes we touched on include: · whether a “right way” to parent exists & letting go of unrealistic expectations · the process of learning to tune into what feels good for you and your family. · finding a sense of safety within the surrender that comes with being a mother · reframing our ever-changing identity as a mother in terms of evolution rather than loss. · And, the importance of recognising the social and cultural context of our experiences as mothers. This was a juicy conversation and and I hope you get as much value from listening to this conversation as I did having it.

| Seeds For Your Garden - Being With & Processing Grief | 13 Jun 2023 | 00:21:54 | |
I’ve got something a little bit different for you on this episode of seeds for your garden! There have been big things moving within me in the last little while, and the theme has been grief. Grief is one of the many things that we often don’t know how to process because we weren’t given a good blueprint of how to do so by our parents and our community. In our modern world, grief is an emotion that is often avoided or suppressed – but the truth is that we need to feel it to heal it. Grief is also an emotion that many mothers know well. At many points along our journey, grief is with us whether that be a pregnancy or birth that didn’t go to plan, the end of a breastfeeding journey, or a breastfeeding journey that never eventuated, a relationship that buckles under the weight of parenting, or when our babies finally begin their schooling life. Grief is a constant in all of our lives. So this week, I am sharing with you a guided practice to help you be with and process the grief that may be moving within you. Guided practices like these make up a significant part of my work and are a core component of my group coaching program: The Rebirth. If you are curious about this work, you can head to the link below to find out more and register for the waitlist for my next intake which will be very soon later in June. I hope this episode provides just what you are needing at this time. Go gently with yourself.

This week on the podcast I explore the transformative power of re-parenting for mothers (and all parents!). Some of the key points I discuss include: · Defining Reparenting: What does reparenting look like? And who is the inner child? · How reparenting can transform our lived experience of mothering by healing attachment wounds and breaking the cycle of unhealthy relating. · Cultivating Self-Compassion. · Reconnecting with Desires and Needs as a vital step in your reparenting journey. · How reparenting reduces how often we feel triggered and get stuck in anger. · My three key steps to begin your reparenting journey. I hope this episode has given you a better understanding of why reparenting is such a powerful tool for us as parents. You deserve a mothering experience where your needs are held up side by side with those of the rest of your family.

| A Round Table Chat on Realigning Fatherhood: Bridging the gap between words and actions | 23 May 2023 | 01:15:38 | |
This week, I’m bringing you a different kind of episode, where I’m joined by Mike Dyson and Erin Spahr in a thought-provoking discussion on an issue that struck a chord with my instagram audience: when fathers define themselves as "family men" but their actions tell a different story. Mike and Erin bring their unique perspectives to shed light on why this might be happening, the consequences of this misalignment, and how fathers can find support to change. Mike is the founder of Good Blokes Co, which empowers men and boys to break down restrictive gender norms and to step up as leaders of a healthier culture of masculinity.

"And" refers to the idea that two seemingly opposite things can both be true at the same time. For example, I can love my children deeply and still need time away from them to recharge and take care of myself. In this episode I explore how patriarchal motherhood ideals can lead to black and white, all-or-nothing thinking causing internal conflict, guilt, shame, and burnout, and how embracing to begin embracing the power of "and" to help us move away from these ideals and create a more empowering and liberating experience of motherhood.

| Seeds For Your Garden Moving Away From Fear Based Parenting | 18 Apr 2023 | 00:12:50 | |
On this episode of Seeds for your garden, I talk about what can happen when we parent from a place of fear. Specifically fear of causing trauma for our children, or of disappointing them. This is something that I am seeing often with the mothers I work with and though it is natural and healthy to act in ways that will not result in trauma for our kids, when our parenting becomes fear based there are a number of ways that this can lead to less than ideal outcomes. I also discuss some reframes that can help shift us from fear based parenting toward parenting in a way that instead centers the experiences we do want our children to have with us. *** Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas ***This is my signature 3 months online group coaching container for mothers which covers family of origin, inner child work, nervous system basics, anger, boundaries and much more.

| Danielle Facey on Loss, Birth Trauma and Finding Her Way Back To Herself In Motherhood | 13 Aug 2024 | 00:53:33 | |
Hi mamas. Today on the podcast I am joined by Danielle Facey, also known as the breastfeeding mentor. Danielle is an author, speaker and a fierce advocate of breastfeeding empowerment.
In this beautiful and courageous conversation, Danielle shares her story of becoming a mother; one that includes her experience of miscarriage, birth trauma and her journey back to herself. We discuss how Danielle's experiences of loss and trauma influenced her need for control and resulted in a heightened sense of vigilance when it came to her baby, exacerbated by cultural pressure in the western world. Danielle shares with me her journey to self-acceptance and self-compassion, and “owning” her motherhood” rather than shying away from it.
We also discuss:
Danielle is kindly offering you 50% off any of the guides on her site with the discount code PODCAST50. Check out the links below to explore her valuable resources.
