Good news is bad news delivered early, with Tech Exec Brett Wiskar21 Oct 202400:42:18

No one likes bad news, but as a leader, it’s your responsibility to get ahead of it. When Brett Wiskar said during our interview, "Good news is bad news delivered early," it really resonated. Surprises are rarely welcome, and as leaders, it's our job not only to manage them but to stay ahead of them.

In this candid episode, I chat with Brett, a seasoned tech executive, about his rollercoaster leadership journey. Tune in to hear three impactful leadership lessons that have reshaped his approach—and could very well change yours too.

I’m saving the lightbulb moments for the episode, but here’s a glimpse of what Brett unpacks:

  1. The crucial leadership skill most avoid (yes, it involves those uncomfortable conversations).
  2. Why adaptability is more valuable than being right.
  3. How to align your team for success.

Beyond the lessons, this episode offers a rare inside look at the life of an executive—his day-to-day challenges, the tough decisions, and what it truly takes to lead at the top. Add the podcast to your listen list to deep dive into the real-world experiences of a leader navigating change and innovation.

Leadership Styles Explained: Find Out How You Lead07 Oct 202400:12:58

Today's episode is talking about what I believe is the most important first step in leadership - knowing your leadership style. Whether you're an aspiring leader, a new leader, someone who's been at it for a while or an absolute seasoned pro, you need to know what your natural leadership style is. So why is this important?   Your leadership style is happening, whether you know about it or not. If you think about gravity, you do not need to know what gravity is to know that if you drop a pen, it will hit the ground. It's the same with your leadership style, whether you know what your leadership style is or not, it is happening. You have a natural style that you are doing in your leadership, whether you know about it or not. So best to know what it is.

In today's podcast episode, I'm talking about Goleman's six leadership styles, helping you to see your strengths and blind spots, and a free quiz to get some personalised feedback.

Today’s episode focuses on my recent dip in motivation and the science on how to get unstuck. Join me in learning three tips to bust a dip in motivation - the Motivation Myth, How to start (when you don’t feel like it), and task size.

After you listen to this episode it’s time to stop procrastinating, use a technique from the podcast and get actioning!

In today's world, the concept of career paths has transformed drastically. No longer is the question merely, what do you want to be when you grow up? Because the average 12 year old today will have 17 different jobs over five different careers. Back when I was at school, I had no idea that a profession like mine even existed.

This episode interviews Nicole Dyson from “Future Anything”. She's an accomplished educator and entrepreneur who has numerous awards and is a recognized authority on youth entrepreneurship and is the perfect individual to discuss the future of leadership.  We discuss what the future of leadership will look like, what skills we will need, and what we can do TODAY to get ready.

How Grown-Ups Grow Up: Exploring Vertical Development with Dr. Alis Anagnostaki06 Sep 202300:51:54

Welcome to today's leadership podcast episode, which marks the beginning of our exciting leadership interview series. In this series, we will be diving deep into the world of leadership by talking to leaders and specialists to shed light on the multifaceted concept of leadership.

Our first guest is none other than Dr. Alis Anagnostakis. Alis and I crossed paths in Spain and have collaborated on various projects throughout the years. Her expertise lies in the realm of Vertical Development, which essentially delves into how adults continue to "grow up" personally and professionally.

Here are some highlights from my conversation with Dr. Alis Anagnostakis:

  1. Embracing Difficult Emotions: We discuss the power of embracing difficult emotions rather than suppressing them. Discover how curiosity can be the key to personal and professional growth.
  2. "Growing Pains" in Adulthood: Alis shares a fascinating analogy involving her daughter's piano learning journey to explain the challenges and transformations that adults go through.
  3. The Vertical Development Framework: Both Alis and I are certified in the Global Leadership Profile, and we explore how this framework can be a valuable tool in understanding and enhancing leadership capabilities.
  4. Challenges for Expert-Level Leaders: We uncover the challenges that leaders at the Expert level may encounter when they personally do the work of their team (instead of leading the team).
  5. A Personal Journey: I share a personal story of a life-altering event, my stroke, which became a defining moment in my leadership journey. We also delve into the science behind the emotional growth I experienced.
  6. Overcoming Emotional Stuckness: how emotions can cloud our perspective, trapping us in a state of "stuckness," and discover strategies to navigate through such moments.

I hope you enjoy this enlightening and insightful first episode with Dr. Alis Anagnostakis. Stay tuned for more interviews with remarkable leaders and experts in the field of leadership.

If you’d like to explore your own level of Vertical Development, contact Alis or myself directly for leadership coaching and profile debriefs.

What's Vertical Development (and what's Horizontal Development)?

Horizontal development is about learning new skills, while Vertical Development is about evolving your mindset, consciousness, and ability to handle increasingly complex challenges. It's not just about what you know or do but also about how you think and who you are as a leader.

Vertical development is valuable because it enables leaders to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of leadership challenges and make more effective decisions in complex and uncertain environments. It's about personal and professional growth that goes beyond the surface and helps leaders become more adaptable, empathetic, and effective in their roles.

From Fridge Fiasco to Delegation Delight28 Aug 202300:03:21

Ever feel like you're stuck dealing with those mind-numbing, everyday tasks that almost drive you to pull your hair out? Oh boy, I've been there too. Just the other day, I had this whole drama with the fridge at one of my investment properties. It just decided to throw in the towel, and guess who had to scramble to find a replacement? Yep, yours truly. Talk about a major headache!

And it's not just property woes—these pesky little things pop up at work too. You know the kind of stuff that doesn't really tap into your strengths but still needs to get done? The funny thing is, there are people out there who actually enjoy doing the things that drive you bonkers. Go figure!

So, how in the world can you hand off those not-so-great tasks that don't really match your skills (or genius zone), and make sure they get done right? Well, let me tell you, this episode is your golden ticket. You'll learn how to appreciate your own time, and most importantly, how to delegate like a pro. That way, you'll have some much-needed breathing space for yourself.

Caffeinated Leadership: Energising Underperformers (instead of firing them)21 Aug 202300:06:19

A delightful tale of my coffee machine woes and how professional tweaks can work wonders for your team.

Imagine me, sipping my morning elixir, when I realize it doesn't taste heavenly anymore. Panic sets in—are my taste buds betraying me? Have I become immune to caffeine? But then, it hits me like a caffeine rush—I've got a coffee machine emergency! Instead of splurging on a new machine, I decided to give my faithful companion one last shot. Off it goes to the coffee machine spa, and lo and behold, it comes back brewing heaven in a mug!

Now, let's talk about underperforming staff at work. We often consider firing and rehiring, but the cost of employee turnover is a real buzzkill. Lowered morale, decreased productivity, and the financial burden of recruiting and training—ouch!

By investing in leadership mentoring and targeted strategies, struggling team members can transform into superstars without breaking the bank. It's like giving them an espresso shot of motivation! Plus, embracing professional tweaks fosters a culture of growth and improvement.

So, fellow coffee aficionados and team leaders, let's caffeinate our team's performance! If you want to chat about optimizing your team, let's grab a virtual coffee. I offer team workshops and one-on-one mentoring to help you unleash your team's potential.

Remember, a little professional tweak can go a long way in brewing success. Check the show notes for more info. Here's to a strong and delicious team performance. Thanks for brewing with me!

That time I made my team member cry17 Aug 202300:03:20

An embarrassing story of my time as a new manager. Even as I’m recording it I can’t believe I’m sharing it with you. I was in my early twenties, I was confident and competent, but on the inside I was worried that they might notice that I'd never led a team before, and would I be good enough?

As a new leader, I thought it was my duty to deliver hard feedback. I thought tough love was the way to go, even when facing real challenges, because I believed honesty was what every team member desired. Then came a situation where a team member approached me with an issue. Without hesitation, I shared my unfiltered thoughts on the matter, adhering to the notion that effective leaders rule with an iron grip.

Listen to this episode to find out what unfolded and how my perspective has changed over time. This story holds valuable lessons about giving constructive feedback. I also want to invite you to a free online masterclass happening in August: "How To Give Feedback (that Doesn't Suck)." Together, we'll explore how to create a feedback-rich environment that paves the way for your team's success. Simply click the link in the show notes below to secure your spot.

Losing my mars bars in Patagonia07 Aug 202300:03:44

I'm whisking you away (mentally!) to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Patagonia. Picture this: snow-capped peaks, icy blue lakes, and winds fierce enough to unseat a politician's toupee. Back in November 2019, I embarked on a thrilling hiking expedition through this wild wonderland. But Patagonia became more than a physical challenge; it became a masterclass in giving and receiving feedback.

I vividly recall a moment when, struggling up a steep slope, a fellow hiker named Gary yelled, "Hey, buddy, your backpack's unzipped!" I had a choice: brush it off or embrace it. I chose the latter, preventing my precious emergency Mars Bars from spilling onto the trail. The lesson? Feedback, whether about a backpack or business strategy, is a gift. It's a chance to learn and grow.

So, let's apply this. Why do we often get defensive in other aspects of life? Instead, let's be open. Listen, weigh the feedback, and decide. Exciting news: I'm hosting a free online masterclass, "How To Give Feedback that Doesn't Suck." Together, we'll uncover the secrets of fostering a feedback-rich culture for your team's success. Lessons from my stroke31 Jul 202300:04:55

Five years have passed since my Vertebral Artery Dissection and Minor Stroke, marking a significant milestone in my journey. While lying in the hospital bed, I set an audacious goal for myself—to complete another half-ironman triathlon in just six months. However, the reality of my condition quickly set in. Simple tasks like walking down a corridor or making a sandwich became monumental challenges. My usual activities, such as coaching CEOs, cycling, facilitating workshops, and playing the piano, were suddenly out of reach. It was a tough pill to swallow, and the disappointment in not achieving my unrealistic goal was real.

This journey of healing post-stroke turned into a personal crash course on the power of feedback. Positive and constructive feedback can be incredibly motivating and build confidence even in the face of daunting challenges. On the other hand, poorly delivered feedback can tear a person down and erode their spirit. As a leader, I've realized that the words I use hold immense power; they can either build people up or leave them feeling diminished.

Given the importance of effective communication, I want to help others learn the art of giving feedback that truly makes a difference. That's why I'm thrilled to invite you to a free masterclass titled "How to Give Feedback That Doesn't Suck." This interactive session, which will be held virtually for 60 minutes on August 21st or 22nd (depending on your time zone), is designed to equip you with the Feedback Formula—an essential tool for transforming feedback conversations into opportunities for growth and success.

In the masterclass, we will not only delve into the theory of feedback but also put it into practice. Together, we'll workshop your feedback conversations, giving you hands-on experience and personal breakthroughs. My goal is to ensure you leave the session with tangible strategies you can apply immediately.

As a special highlight, one lucky participant will have the opportunity to be coached by me in the hot seat segment. Witnessing this transformative feedback conversation will provide invaluable insights, helping you further refine your own feedback approach.

So, let's take this step together on the journey of giving feedback that truly makes a difference. I promise to guide you through these conversations in a way that doesn't feel awkward or uncomfortable. Reserve your seat below.

Building an Engaged Team, Virtually, with Brianna Ansaldo of Bamby Media05 Aug 202400:47:29

Do you get the best from your team? Guest Brianna Ansaldo is CEO of Australia's largest independent podcast production agency in Australia, and has a completely virtual team.

When I started this podcast two years ago, I clicked immediately with Brianna but also knew that after the onboarding I'd be working with the team not Brianna directly. Here's the fascinating bit - her team was just as great to work with. So what was it about her leadership that was creating such a great environment for the team and clients to be thriving?

So nervously I asked a podcasting professional to be a guest on my podcast.

In this episode we talk about her time as famous singer on reality TV, the time we both have been mascots dressed in huge suits with big heads, her journey into podcasting, and the bit you're probably most interested in, her 3 leadership lessons:

  1. the questions she asks during the interview process to ensure a perfect fit for both the job and the team culture at Bamby Media.
  2. how to stretch and get the best from your team (hint: it's not a sink or swim approach)
  3. her foolproof processes for establishing top-notch work standards within her team, preventing any tasks from falling short of excellence and ending up back on her desk.

If Brianna's leadership journey has inspired you to level up your own, here's two ways I can help:

  1. Team Leader Essentials - Brisbane 1 day course (4 September 2024)
  2. 1:1 Leadership Coaching

Guest Bio - Brianna Ansaldo, Bamby Media
www.bambymedia.com
After over a decade working as a songwriter, Brianna fell in love with podcast production and founded Bamby Media. Eight years on Bamby Media is now the largest independent podcast production agency in Australia, with a current roster of over 65 clients globally.

Brianna is also a podcast industry judge for the Australian Podcast Awards, Webby Awards and Signal Awards. Working with podcast industry professionals to help celebrate the best of the best has been extremely rewarding and Brianna is excited to work more in this space in the coming years.

The Feedback Formula24 Jul 202300:02:59

I absolutely love travelling and have been fortunate enough to visit 38 countries and counting. Currently, I'm on an exciting adventure, but this time, there's a twist – I'm travelling with my five-month-old baby, Alba. It's a whole new experience that both excites and makes me nervous. I want her to grow up exploring the world, just like me, with a passion for continuous learning.

Interestingly, being a leader and giving feedback share the same mix of scary-meets-exciting feelings. Like a nervous flyer going through airport security, the idea of giving feedback can be intimidating. You want to learn and help others grow, but the fear of the unknown can hold you back.

Yet, I firmly believe that practice makes progress. That's why I'm inviting you to join my upcoming free masterclass on "how to give feedback that doesn't suck." It's scheduled for either August 21st or 22nd, depending on your time zone. By the end of the session, you'll be equipped with the Feedback Formula and ready to have those conversations you've been longing for. You'll even witness a live feedback exchange.

Interested? You can find more details and secure your seat through the link in the show notes. Remember, giving feedback may seem scary, but it doesn't have to be. Let's learn together, and I'll help you gain the confidence to provide constructive feedback to your team.

If you'd like to see how our European trip is going, follow me on Instagram (@ZenithJourney) or on LinkedIn (Kate Peardon). Thanks for tuning in, and I'm looking forward to having you at the "Giving Feedback That Doesn't Suck" masterclass!

Flipping the to-do list17 Jul 202300:06:13

We often get caught up in the never-ending to-do list frenzy without stopping to ask ourselves if the work actually aligns with our goals. Being busy doesn't automatically mean we're being productive. Trust me, I've learned this the hard way, and so have my clients

So, how do we escape this productivity quicksand? It's time to flip the conversation and approach things differently. I'm here to guide you through a three-step action plan, which is part of the Delegation Playbook.

If you're craving even more leadership wisdom, consider checking out my mentoring services. Let's face it: we're often thrown into leadership roles without much guidance. But with a little mentoring, you can boost your confidence and supercharge your team's performance. All the details can be found in the show notes, and you can even book a chat with me to discuss your unique needs.

Business on the go: European Edition!10 Jul 202300:07:10

I'm excited to share my upcoming journey to Europe with my husband and our five-month-old daughter. Over the next six weeks, while my husband takes parental leave, I'll be working remotely and exploring new places during the European summer. To ensure a smooth operation for my business while I'm away, I've implemented five key strategies.

First, delegation plays a crucial role, and I've entrusted my team to handle tasks while maintaining client communication. Second, relying on automatic workflows for routine activities, leveraging technology to streamline processes. Third, navigating time zone differences using Calendly for client bookings and choose accommodations with suitable workspaces.

Fourth, equipping myself with technology like my laptop, headphones, and international SIM card, ensuring reliable client calls and conducting podcast interviews. Finally, regular check-ins with my capable team keep me informed and allow me to provide guidance without micromanaging.

Although unexpected challenges may arise, I invite you to join me on this experience and share any additional suggestions. Follow my journey on Instagram or LinkedIn and stay tuned for updates. Thanks for listening and wishing us luck!

SUMMARY:

One key action I talk to all my clients about from new leaders, seasoned leaders, small business owners and corporate execs, is the idea of a CEO session. Now, this is not about the title of CEO, it's about a CEO mindset. Task Master: Strategies for Staying on Top of Your Team's To-Dos (without micromanaging)30 Jan 202300:07:38

Earlier this month, (hopefully) you set goals for the year—including mapping out delegating tasks to make it happen.  Maybe you’ve run into a common problem that so many of my clients end up in: How do you keep track of who’s doing what?

You got so good at getting things off your plate that you created a new challenge for yourself to navigate. This means you’re doing it right! If you’re anything like my clients, you’ll want to know how to stay on top of your team’s to-dos (without micromanaging).

Leading an international team with Emilia Simonin02 Jul 202400:26:22

In 2010 podcast host Kate Peardon met fellow Australian Emilia Simonin in an MBA classroom in Paris. Throughout the years they've shared their journey across a number of countries and through corporate leadership, and today Emilia is the Global Market and Business Intelligence Director at L'Oreal, in Paris.

Today's episode interviews Emilia on her three key leadership lessons on her experience leading cross-cultural teams, and how each has shaped her journey from an Australian working in marketing in Sydney, to international director in Paris.  Her lessons include:

  1. It's all about people, no matter who or where you're leading
  2. Communication styles in different cultures
  3. How authenticity has helped Emilia overcome cultural barriers

Expect the exceptional: a board game-inspired guide to setting expectations in the workplace23 Jan 202300:09:36

Monopoly is one of those games where everyone has slightly different rules. All of a sudden you were playing with someone and a new rule would come out of the blue and your strategy just went out the window. One of the keys to leadership is about setting expectations early, clearly and often. So no one feels blindsided or wants to flip the board game. In this episode, I share three tips for setting expectations with your team and three ways to set expectations for yourself.

Signs of a Micromanager (is it you?)16 Jan 202300:12:20

Micromanaging is a task that many new emerging leaders and even seasoned leaders are guilty of committing. Officially it's the management style where a leader, excessively supervisors their employees. Maybe you think you’re just actively managing your team (but the team are rolling their eyes because they feel completely micromanaged). How do you know if you’re micromanaging?  In this episode, you’ll hear my own experiences as a A1 micromanager (embarrassing but true), solid examples of what micromanaging is, and what you can apply today to be a more constructive leader.

Reassessing your business structure to suit your life goals09 Jan 202300:09:54

When we come into a new year we can't help but reassess. Do I want this year to be like last year? What do I want to be different? One of the popular episodes from 2022 Level Up Leadership podcast was episode 9, all about the three different models we can design our business by, Solo Hero and Agency.

I'm recasting this episode at this time of year because people might be thinking about their business model - do I want to start my own business? Or hire some staff behind the scenes? Or building an agency?. Today’s episode is to help you get clarity on what you want, and what freedom means to you.

The 'Clean Slate' Method26 Dec 202200:05:44

What if in 2023, you could take things OFF your plate, instead of adding them ON? Last week on the podcast I spoke about mindset shifts, one which was about working smarter, not harder, and today's episode is all about the "clean slate" method. Most people start the new year with a lengthy list of things that they have to or want to do. Today, I challenge you to start your new year by making your list shorter. With inspiration from Seinfeld’s George Costanza, and Marie Kondo from “The Art of Tidying Up”, I’ll share the three questions, and the things you can delegate today to get you one step closer to your goals.

Hiring Employees vs Contractors? Building your team06 Dec 202200:10:54

Today's topic is all about whether you should hire employees or contractors. It is a topic that is both suitable for people that work within a business in a leadership role, looking at expanding the team, and also for people that own their own business and looking at how to expand the team. As you step into 2023 and to think about how you want the year to go, this is a common question that people ask.

So first I'll be showing the definition of an employee and a contractor and five different things to consider when you're working out which to hire.

I'll also share a little bit about fractional teams and if you're not familiar with it, it's a great thing to understand a little bit more about. If you are looking at hiring in 2023, I also have a free mini course that is called time to hire, which walks you through how to make the decision on hiring. You can find at zenithjourney.com/timetohire and I talk about it a little bit later in the episode, so let's get into it.

The Blame Game31 Oct 202200:06:26

When something goes wrong, is your first thought “who’s fault is this?”. Now on the surface, this makes complete sense. Once you find out whose fault it is, you can fix it. It might feel like you are gaining control by blaming somebody else or working out whose fault it is. But actually you are giving away control. Poor leaders ask "who is at fault", and strong leaders ask, "where did the process break down?"

Conflict Negotiation - how to feel more in control24 Oct 202200:10:45

Imagine this: your phone rings. It's a client you've been working with on a really big project. The person on the other end is furious. They cannot believe the work that you've done has not hit the mark of what was agreed, and the impact that is now having on their clients and their work is astronomical. They are pissed. What do you do? And what do you feel?

Mad, misunderstood, unappreciated? Confused? Do you go into defensive mode? The last thing people tell me is that they feel in control. So today's episode is all about conflict negotiation and how to feel more in control.

Company of One10 Oct 202200:08:22

Everyone is always on the lookout for the Next Big Thing. Today's podcast is about a book called Company Of One by Paul Jarvis. It is a book all about why staying small is the next big thing for business.  "What if the real key to a richer and more fulfilling career was not to create and scale a startup, but rather be able to work for yourself, determine your own hours and become a highly profitable and sustainable company of one. Suppose the better and smarter solution is to simply remain small. This book explains how to do that".

So you've got two people talking AT each other, not listening, wanting the other person to listen, because if they just LISTENED to you, they would see it your way, and realise that you’re right.  We have all been there.

Today's podcast takes a lesson from the book "Edge: turning adversity into advantage" by Laura Huang and award-winning Harvard Business School Professor.

In the book, they observed then interviewed more than 60 leaders who are trying to convince business associates and other people to change their minds on a course of action they initially disagreed with. The leaders who were the most successful in overcoming other people's skepticisms had one thing in common.

And this is the key to how to change someone's mind….

Happiness - journey or destination?05 Sep 202200:10:26

What is happiness? Does happiness at work make our employees more productive? Will we be more profitable? Will we have an edge on our competitors? Will this help make a positive impact on the world around us?”  What is the criteria for happiness at work? We are going to be talking about the topic of happiness and how it impacts us on a work sense and the concept of Procedural Utility - is happiness reaching the destination where you’ve ticked off the criteria on your list, or the journey getting there?

Navigating Leadership Waters13 Mar 202400:13:01

If you've got a problem at work, is it:
a) you
b) other people
c) the environment
d) all of the above.

Have you ever changed jobs, only to find the issue still exists in your new job? This is a definite sign that you thought it was (C - the environment) but it was actually (A - you).

So how do you figure out the cause of the issue before making big changes? In this episode I use a metaphor from Positive Psychology called the Sailboat (I also referenced this tool in podcast episode #60 with Liz Bradford).

I talk through the sailboat, a story about my own 'sailboat', what happened when I moved to Paris, and how you can answer the multi-choice question above by listening to the episode.

Here are three key takeaways:

  1. Know Your Sailboat: Just as a captain must understand every aspect of their vessel, effective leadership begins with self-awareness. Identifying your strengths (sails) and weaknesses (leaks), clarifying your values (steering wheel), and setting clear goals (destination) are crucial steps toward navigating your leadership journey successfully.
  2. Navigate the Waters: Understanding the dynamics of the environment you operate in (life's domains) is essential. Whether it's adapting to change (weather events) or managing relationships (other boats), recognizing the external factors at play allows for more informed decision-making and effective leadership.
  3. Chart Your Course: Leadership is not a solo journey; it's about leading teams toward a common goal. By fostering open dialogue and aligning individual and team objectives, you can create a shared vision and set actionable steps (SMART goals) to propel your organisation forward.

If you find yourself seeking a tailored approach to leadership development or team building, reach out to discuss our workshop options. Whether it's a one-off session or a comprehensive leadership program, I'd love to help you unlock your team's full potential and achieve your desired outcomes.

Remember, small changes can lead to significant growth over time. What 1% will you apply from this week's podcast?

Is Leadership Chess or Checkers?01 Aug 202200:10:55

In the movie Training Day, Denzel Washington plays a rogue detective character and he tells his new protege, in effect "this is chess, not checkers". He means the job is way more complicated than it seems. It's fast, dynamic and with lots of moving parts.

This is a similar analogy for leadership. So how does thinking about chess help you as a leader? Wise leaders that think in the idea of chess, they manage relationships and connect with individuals based on their unique personality and strengths.

This episode shares three actions you can implement straight away to move from playing Checkers to playing Chess.

Work Friendships - the good, the bad and the ugly19 Jul 202200:08:09

Have you ever asked a child “Did you make any friends at school today?” The reason we ask this question of children nervously is because we know that school without friends can be a lonely and hostile place. With friends and the other hand, it can be really good fun. And so you can work. But what are some of the common pitfalls that we can come across with friendships at work?  Are work friendships a good idea, or a terrible idea?

With International Day of Friendship coming up on the 30th of July, today's topic is about friendships at work. We're going to be talking about: can you make friends at work? Is there benefits to having friends at work? Can you be friends with your boss? How do you make boundaries with your work friends? And last of all, if you wanting more work friends, how do you actually do that? So let's get stuck into today's episode about work friendships, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
