Records Galore: Woody Kincaid 12:51, Yared Nuguse 7:28, Katelyn Tuohy NCAA record in mile01 Feb 202301:41:04

What a weekend. Yared Nuguse started it off by running 7:28.24, an American record for 3000m and then a few hours later Woody Kincaid shocked the nation and Joe Klecker by running 12:51.61, an American record at 5000m.

The next day Katelyn Tuohy broke the NCAA record in the mile.

Plus a sneaky good performance by Hobbs Kessler, a win and interesting comments from Drew Hunter, a world best by Keely Hodgkinson, Mo Farah news, a nice win by Ajee' Wilson, and another great meet this weekend in Boston.

We break it all down. Show notes below.

Bonus: Dan Michalski - Living the Dream - From Working at Walmart, Wearing the LetsRun Singlet, to the Olympics? 13 Jan 202301:02:39

We've got a bonus pod for everyone, as part of our Where Your Dreams Become Reality series.

Daniel Michalski was a baseball player and band member for most of his high school career. Then he tried track and cross country and he has taken the more circuitous route to the top ranks of the sport. He won a a DII NCAA title for Cedarville. He nearly won a DI for Indiana but fell over the final barrier.

Unsponsored, during COVID at one point he was working at Walmart to help support his wife Abby. When she got pregnant, he wanted to find a job with insurance, and that led him to coaching in Texas, training solo, a new coach of his own and a return to the top of the sport.

He was the most gracious 4th placer we've ever seen at the 2020 Olympic Trials, and now has his eyes set on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Before that he's running the Houston Half Marathon this weekend in the LetsRun.com singlet. A LetsRun.com Supporters Club member, he asked Rojo if he could race in the singlet. We're honored!

London = Y-squared + Kipruto & Bekele; Mantz Mania & Sisson in Chicago + Tuohy NCAA Favorite05 Oct 202201:45:52

Yalemzerf Yehualaw crushed the 24th and 25th miles to get the win and London and show she is a natural-born marathoner while Amos Kipruto blasted a 4:21 25th mile to get the win, as Kenenisa Bekele showed his career is not over as he ran with the leaders until 5 miles to go and broke the masters world record.

Kipchoge 2:01:09 GOAT, Tuohy and Young NCAA Favorites? World Marathon Majors Slash Prize Money28 Sep 202201:33:07

Eliud Kipchoge smashed his World Record to show he's the GOAT (even though some think he's over 40-years-old). Unheralded Tigist Assefa made American record holder Keira D'Amato an afterthought in Berlin. The NCAA action heated up at the Cowboy Jamboree. Are Katley Tuohy and Nico Young the NCAA favorites?

Bye Bye Byes & Zurich, 5th Ave Records & History, Pregnancy, Porn and Cooper Teare13 Sep 202201:26:59

The Diamond League came to an end with a festival in Zurich that saw a massive shot by Joe Kovacs, world leaders by Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Emmanuel Korir, and statistically the fastest 100m run by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Three days later Laura Muir set a course record and Jake Wightman threepeated at the NB 5th Avenue Mile. Kenenisa Bekele tuned up for the London Marathon. Does he have another miracle at age 40?

Plus Cooper Teare is officially in Bowerman and not happy with Jonathan Gault, Boston needs a sponsor, Elle St. Pierre is pregnant and Rojo is Rojo.

(Sponsor) The AIRWAAV® ENDURANCE Performance Mouthpiece is here! Airwaav is a relatively new training tool that launched late in 2020 after nearly 16 years of research. Now they have the ENDURANCE model that provides a more snug fit, keeping the mouthpiece in place for endurance athletes who relax their jaw during long-distance workouts or races. The AIRWAAV performance mouthpiece fits along your bottom teeth and directs your tongue down and forward creating the “optimal airway opening” resulting in:

  • Increased airway opening by up to 25% resulting in an immediate 28.5% respiratory rate reduction during a steady-state run
  • Increased endurance — by reducing respiratory rate by 20%, resulting in less lactic acid production
  • Faster recovery times — by reducing cortisol build-up by up to 50%

LetsRun listeners can save 10% with the code "LR10" Dig into the science and put AIRWAAV to the test. Click here to try it out.

Superstars (Tuohy, Fahnbulleh, Allen, Sha'Carri, Steiner) Deliver + Guest Cade Flatt Going for 800 History15 Jun 202202:14:11

What a week. The 2022 NCAA championships are in the books and the Joseph Fahnbulleh freight train arrived, Katelyn Tuohy got NCAA title #1, Abby Steiner got some Allyson Felix comparisons - we break it all down.

At 110:33 we are joined by the fastest high school 800m runner in the nation (and one of the most confident), Cade Flatt (@FlattCade & IG: @cadeflatt) from tiny Benton Kentucky (population 4,756) before he tries to break Michael Granville's 26-year-old national 800m record of 1:46.45 at this weekend's New Balance Outdoor Nationals at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Cade talks about the record, his unorthodox training (how does a 5 mile week sound?), his confidence, and his desire to race the senior USATF Outdoor nationals this year.

Devon Allen shocked the world at the NYC Grand Prix as the US stars were out in full force, Noah Lyles, Sydney McLaughlin, Christian Coleman and Sha'Carri Richardson in her fish net attire. The 50th NY Mini was held. A bonus length podcast to break it all down. Show notes below.

Sprint Drama & NCAAs: 400m Hurdles & Sub 4 High School Madness, Ethiopian 10k Champs08 Jun 202201:19:03

An amazing Prefontaine Classic took place at an amazing new Hayward Field. We break it all down and ask where were the fans? Plus, recaps of the USATF 10,000m champs at Pre, and talk of the 9.86 by 20-year-old Oregon sprinter Micah Williams.
