Placebo vs. nocebo effect: choosing the right ally

Épisode 9

jeudi 13 juin 2024Durée 24:58

Guests

-          Serge Marchand

-          Luana Colloca

-          Lene Vase

-          Małgorzata Starzec-Proserpio

Description

This episode of the Tallk About Pain Podcat focuses on the placebo and nocebo effects, particularly as applied to acute and chronic pain. Thanks to a number of interviews with leading researchers, we're able to share with you a wealth of interesting information on the subject, including the impact of our expectations, thoughts and many other personal or contextual aspects on pain. The episode begins with a first interview with Serge Marchand, scientific director of a private company and associate professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, for an initial overview and demystification of the subject. Following up, interviews conducted with passionate researchers including psychologist Lene Vase, professor at Aarhus University in Denmark, Dr. Luana Colloca, professor at the University of Maryland in the USA, and postdoctoral fellow and physiotherapist Małgorzata Starzec-Proserpio, from the Université de Sherbrooke. To keep in mind : the placebo effect is a valuable ally that we can use in our daily lives, whereas it's preferable, on the contrary, to reduce the nocebo effect as much as possible!
