Breast pumps suck… Babies suckle… The questions in today’s episode are how these two things differ from each other and why it matters. This is a special episode for me personally because I share with you the findings of a project, I have led at NUIG. We looked at the physiology of suckling and laid down the foundations for a pump that mimics suckling. My guest today is infant feeding coordinator Catriona MacLean from Inverclyde, Scotland. She is the brains and brawn behind the 40 feet tall mural of a breastfeeding mermaid, that helps normalize breastfeeding in Inverclyde. We talk about how they decided on the mural, why they chose a mermaid, and what are the positive effects across the community.
