| Ep.247: Why Burnout is an Organization Design Problem, Not a Resilience One and How to Fix it, with Ashley C. Gibson | Leadership Podcasts | 09 Sep 2026 | 01:25:14 | |
What if the reason you're burnt out isn't about your personal resilience? This is the question being explored in this episode of Leading with Integrity, as I'm joined by my next guest, Ashley Gibson. Ashley is a psychotherapist and former marketing executive, she is a Licensed Resident in Counseling and the Founder of Meaning in Practice, as well as being an expert on burnout and identifying the parts of your organisational design where genuine purpose gets turned into systemic exhaustion. And as a bonus I even managed to work through some of my own workplace dramas too! Thanks Ashley for your time, generosity and kindness; loved this conversation! | Ep.246: How To Lead like a Great Teacher and Why Changing Your Approach Matters, with Dr Katie Trowbridge | Leadership Podcasts | 02 Sep 2026 | 01:10:00
Here's a potentially surprising concept for you: great leaders are a lot like great teachers; curious, adaptable, focused on helping others feel seen, heard and trusted so they can think boldly and do their best work. This week Dr Katie Trowbridge joins me to discuss this parallel between great teachers and effective leaders. We talk about the 'thought crisis' and why valuing thinking in the workplace is just as important as recognising people's value and contributions (i.e. via appropriate salaries!). Katie shares her journey from teaching to author to leadership, and we cover everything from generational differences in the workplace to connection and belonging, the challenges of quiet quitting, critical thinking and engagement among employees, the complexities of the modern workplace. Do you truly understand your people? Or any people? How well you understand human nature and how people work both as groups and individuals is an aspect of leadership we regularly touch on, but rarely is it a lesson learned through such a unique set of experiences or such highly demanding circumstances as the ones we'll be hearing about this week. | Ep.241: Work Culture, Wellness, Health and Nutrition; Are Your People Looking After themselves, with Amanda Whitehead | Leadership Podcasts | 29 Jul 2026 | 01:12:28
What's one thing that links our health, stress, productivity an even happiness at work? The answer may surprise you (it did me)... There's been a recurring theme of health, mental health & wellbeing this year on Leading with Integrity, and this week we're continuing that trend from a slightly different angle as I chat with Amanda Whitehead, founder of Purposefully Nourished and expert in nutrition, gut health, burnout and stress. Our conversation touches on many of the big questions of leadership from burnout and stress to resilience and the role/responsibility of leaders to their people and to the workplace environments we create. The connections between our nutrition, hydration, rest and physical & mental health, wellbeing at work and more are worth thinking about; and perhaps not as obvious as they may seem. | Ep.240: Finding Your Core Values and Why Scaling the Business Starts with Scaling it’s Leader, with Frank Gessner | Leadership Podcasts | 22 Jul 2026 | 01:20:43
What's your North Star? What values or principles guide you as an individual and (by extension) in your career or business? Not having clarity on these can make every work decision more complicated and difficult. Sounds simple, but it's not always so easy and perhaps this is why so many of us struggle with it, especially when first starting out. Enter this week's guest on Leading with Integrity, Frank Gessner. Frank is a veteran entrepreneur and mentor, he's the founder/creator of LifePilot and a Bloom Growth Facilitator. We discuss the value of knowing your North Star, how to find it and the impact it can have on your life and leadership once you have. We also talk the complexities of leadership, the importance of clarity in decision-making and how every decision has consequences, maybe explaining why founders so often struggle with letting go of projects. | Ep.239: Organizations Under Pressure, Failing AI Strategies and the Lessons for Leaders, with Patrick Bell | Leadership Podcasts | 15 Jul 2026 | 01:24:34
What does 'AI' look like when it's implemented well? What are the benefits to businesses and (more importantly) the end user? To help us try to find the answers, this week I'm joined by Patrick Bell, an AI transformation partner and doctoral AI researcher. We (mostly Patrick) dissect the operational friction behind corporate artificial intelligence adoption, why so many technical rollouts fail internally despite looking highly successful on the surface and the structural breaking points of organizations under pressure, with examples like the tension between automated customer support bots and human empathy, or the systemic failure of traditional educational models to adjust to high-velocity AI learning. | Ep.238: Fashion Tech, Sustainability and the Founder’s Journey; Pulling the Threads of Leadership, with Lacey Cadieux-McLean | Leadership | 08 Jul 2026 | 01:07:22
A key topic of this week's episode is sustainability in fashion, fair to say, I'm about the least fashion-conscious person you know. So I'm opening this description with a thank you to this week's guest, Lacey Cadieux-McLean, for 1. patiently answering my silly questions on the subject, and 2. teaching me quite a few things I didn't know and had never thought about when it comes to something as simple as the clothes we wear and the impact they may be having on our health and the environment. We also find time to talk leadership, the challenges faced by new leaders, first-time founders and managers, through the lens of Lacey's own journey from project manager to founder. Today we're testing a few of the assumptions of entrepreneurship and leadership, from "fail fast" to "leaders have all the answers" and more, we might even be debunking and refuting some of these ideas, and discussing why they're actually a little bit toxic. I'm joined by guest, Joel Miller, co-founder (with his twin brother) of The Sky Floor, LLC. A marketing agency of two, which has a slightly contrarian view, a non-traditional take if you like, on business growth and how micro-companies can run. This week, my guest is Kurt Bush, a leadership coach and podcaster, and he shares some thoughts on the often-overlooked aspects of leadership, from understanding trauma to the differing challenges of leading volunteers and employees. And from the all-too-common struggle with the inner critic to more intentional decisions. We also talk about authenticity, alignment and core values in leadership, practical steps for personal transformation and how to overcome those inevitable feelings of isolation and imposter(ism?) in your new leadership role. | Ep.233: Why Every Leader Needs a Great Network and How to Build One, with Kelly & James West and Kierney Chase | Leadership Podcasts | 03 Jun 2026 | 01:19:16
One of the things I wish I'd started doing earlier is building networks. Particularly ones full of supportive, people-oriented people. Early in my career I was, at best, suspicious of the term 'networking' because I didn't really understand the concept and thought it was just a pushy sales thing... So imagine my surprise when I first joined ONLE Networking! It's the complete opposite of every bad networking story you've ever heard or experienced and the reason for that, in my opinion, comes down to it's founders. Which is a long-winded way of saying, those very people are on the podcast this week! I'm joined by Kelly, James, and Kierney to talk networking and its many benefits from business to mental health and beyond, leadership dos, don'ts and wherefores, the trials, tribulations, successes and joys of business... Journalism, love, basketball, Captain America and a whole bunch of other stuff I've probably forgotten to mention. "What if?" is a question everybody has asked themself in life, probably more than once. But for most people, most leaders, when we ask "What if?" it's a backward-looking question. My guest this week has a powerful reframe of the question that's worth your time. His name is Doug Fleener, he's a Personal Adviser for Growth and Change, author of the book "Start With What If" and creator of The What If Rule. | Ep.229: Turning Insight into Influence: How Leaders can be More Effective Communicators, with Salvatore Manzi | Leadership Podcasts | 06 May 2026 | 01:34:09
Leaders: ever had a brilliant idea but struggled to get your team on board? Sometimes that maybe because the idea wasn't so brilliant (I've definitely had that problem! 😅), but other times maybe it's been because getting your point across requires more than just sharing data or hitting the 'transmit' button. It takes genuine presence and a solid understanding of your audience/people. My guest this week is Salvatore Manzi. He's a leadership communications coach who specializes in helping leaders turn complexity into clarity, insight into influence. Salvatore is also the author of upcoming book: Clear and Compelling. During our chat, Salvatore breaks down the real definition of leadership presence so you can finally understand what that corporate buzzword actually means in practice. | Ep.228: Behavior in Motion: The Transformative Power of Culture-Minded Leadership, with Adriana Vaccaro | Leadership Podcasts | 29 Apr 2026 | 00:57:53
A recurring theme this year has been organisational culture; what makes it work, how it turns toxic (and what not to do!). So on it was a pleasure to talk about it with this weeks guest: Culture Strategist, Behavioral Psychologist and HR Expert, Adriana Vaccaro. We chat about how to redesign your culture for success and the role of conscious leadership in that process. You'll hear about Adriana's culture-minded framework and the 6 core capabilities that drive it, from the relationship between contribution and belonging to the role of technology and beyond. A key takeaway is to think about the way we view culture: as a practice rather than a philosophy, and why leaders should embody the values they promote. | Ep.226: The Science of Behaviour, Motivation, Gamification and Leading Successful Teams, with Roman Rackwitz | Leadership Podcasts | 15 Apr 2026 | 01:26:42
I'm pretty excited about this one, because words like 'gamification' tend not to be taken all that seriously within businesses and you might be forgiven for thinking "what's that got to do with leadership anyway?" until we join the dots to other words like behaviour, motivation, and neuroscience. So in today's episode I'm speaking with Roman Rackwitz about ALL of the sciences, the brain stuff, the tricks of human behaviour and motivation, how this leads into gamification in the productive, useful ways (and not the gimmicky nonsense most of us will probably have encountered before) and how all of this links back to leading more successful teams. | Ep.222: Building Meaningful Relationships; The Key to Sustainable Leadership Impact & Longevity, with Anthony Silard | Leadership Podcasts | 18 Mar 2026 | 01:10:43
Ever noticed how some leaders seem to thrive (almost) effortlessly, while others struggle despite having similar technical skills, similar experiences, similar levels of seniority? What if the "secret" to effective leadership were in how you connect with others and less to do with your technical skill? In this episode I'll be looking for the answers to these and other questions with my guest, Anthony (Tony) Silard. We talk implicit norms and their impact on culture, loneliness at work & for leaders, the role emotional intelligence and social skills have to play in these, gender dynamics, societal expectations, salary gaps, longevity, well-being and more. | Ep.221: How to Spot Horrible Bosses & Avoid Becoming One and Other Tips for Modern Leaders, with Jenny Green | Leadership Podcasts | 11 Mar 2026 | 01:41:31
This week I'm joined by Jenny Green to talk about two quite different topics, which we've not really covered before: 1. working parents and how to support them as a leader, and 2. creepy bosses and how to spot them/avoid becoming one! We talk wider topics too, like work culture, the pressures and expectations placed on parents (and students!) by schools and society, the impact of technology and AI, the balance between professional responsibilities and family life and the emotional challenges faced by parents. This chat was really good fun, from our own early career experiences to the good, great, and terrible leaders we've each encountered, right the way through to time travel, space, and leadership heroes. | Ep.218: Discussing Neurodiversity, Neuro-inclusion, Leadership and the Future of Work, with Grant Harris | Leadership Podcasts | 18 Feb 2026 | 01:07:09
Leadership isn't a straight line; so why do we keep trying to lead that way? Have you ever felt stuck trying to navigate a non-linear path to success? In reality, effective leadership is complex, messy, and full of pivots, just like human brains. Trying to force a straight-line approach ignores the diversity in how people think, communicate, and operate. Which is why this week on Leading with Integrity, I'm talking with Grant Harris, a neurodiversity advocate, about the complexities of leadership and the importance of embracing neurodiversity in the workplace. We discuss neuroinclusion and the future of work, and the nature of leadership, how it goes beyond strategy and vision, incorporating emotional and cultural intelligence. What are the key challenges in balancing technology, business, and people in leadership? For example, bridging the gap between cool technology and a viable commercial case. This week's guest is Tanya Kobzar, who has some insightful thoughts on this, having founded a tech company herself as well as worked with over 65 startups. Tanya shares her journey from software developer to entrepreneur, we discuss the importance of a supportive team environment, the meaning and significance of human-centered design, the challenges of balancing technology with business needs. | Ep.201: How The 7 Minute Pivot Can Help You Stop Managing and Start Mobilizing, with Dr. Cynthia Bentzen-Mercer | Leadership Podcasts | 28 Nov 2025 | 01:03:40
What if 7-minutes a day was all it took to pivot your career entirely? Incremental changes that add up to life-changing differences... Dr. Cynthia Bentzen-Mercer and I discuss the concept of the seven minute pivot, a method for individuals to invest a small amount of time daily to create significant changes in their lives and careers. It's a fitting way to close our celebratory 200th episode week. The conversation explores Cynthia's career journey from broadcasting to human resources, her research into ambitious women, and the importance of intentionality in leadership. We also think about self-advocacy among women, the fallacy of equating years of experience with effectiveness, and the mental health implications of hiring decisions. | Ep.200: People, Service, and Leadership from the Cold War to the Modern Day, with Stuart Vincent | Leadership Podcasts | 26 Nov 2025 | 01:43:37
It's here. Episode number 200. And for this milestone I wanted to record something really special, it took me a little while to define what that would be but I think I chose wisely. The idea was to speak to someone who has had a hugely positive influence in my own leadership and career journey. I'm very glad I was able to briefly coax Stu Vincent out of retirement to join me on the podcast this week, because he ticks all of the above boxes and has been a great mentor to me over the years (pretty much from our first conversation, walking down a high street, I forget where, in 2011 on the way to a work Christmas do). In this episode then, we talk about Stu's 38 year career in the Royal Air Force as an airframe engineer, his second career in the private sector, the memorable lessons and impactful moments that come to mind from his experiences, and what they each taught him about leadership along the way. I say this in the episode but I'll say it again here: Thank you, Stu, not just for this episode but for the influence you've had on my career and the valuable lessons you've taught me over the last 15-odd years. I look forward to our Christmas meet-up soon 🍻 Thanks for listening/watching this very special episode of Leading with integrity: Leadership talk. An added bonus episode for the 200 week: a look back at some (not all, there's not enough space, so any omitted guests please don't be disheartened that I couldn't fit you all in!!) of my favourite moments from the podcast over the last 4 years. Hands up if you know what a mentalist is? Now put your hand down if you've actually met one in real life instead of seen them on TV... yeah, same. This week, we have a whole bunch of extra episodes in celebration of reaching the 200th Episode milestone on Leading with Integrity.
