This is the end....the end of my 'Leading the Coaching Change Podcast'. They say the end is the beginning. Leading the coaching podcast has been even better than I had imagined. “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”- Brené Brown In this podcast, I share some practical ideas to have the courage to do something. I challenge you with 3 questions so that you can dare do something different. Nothing is in the way really! “Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience mould us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together” Linda Thompson If you are curious about how can help leverage your leadership strengths, please visit my website.
| Financial resilience in leadership | 02 Apr 2021 | 00:50:02 | |
Really enjoyed our stimulating and thought-provoking podcast on "Financial resilience in leadership" with Mahmood Reza and John Longford DipPFS. Now maybe you’re asking, “How can I improve as a financial leader, regardless of where I am on the career continuum?” Deloitte defines "Financial resilience" as "the ability of an organisation to withstand events that affect their capital structure, liquidity, revenue and assets." Without financial resilience, commercial and operational resilience cannot be maintained. "Part of a plan might be not to have a plan" "Surround yourself with the experts that you trust" "Challenge what you do and know your why" "Being qualified is not necessarily being good at what you do" If you are curious about how can help leverage your leadership strengths, please visit my website.

| How to use the power of hope in conversations | 12 Mar 2021 | 00:12:55 | |
Do you know this Airline Pilot Maxim: Do we want pessimism in the cockpit? (Hope Theory: Rainbows in the Mind, C.R. Snyder, 2002) But for me, there’s more to it with ‘Hope’ so let me share something that is driving my passion around these 4-letter words. I am currently writing a PhD proposal where hope is at the core of my research. My research will investigate and analyse how hope determines the outcome of a difficult conversation related to the performance review in a business context. Hope involves estimation of conscious or unconscious probabilities so my hypothesis is that on choosing the odds to be in our favour, we demonstrate confidence, patience, determination and courage that the ‘perceived’ difficult conversation will transform into a courageous conversation to achieve better outcomes. Hope will not only determine the future of a strong relationship), influence future performance but also shape the future capacity and capability of a person and ultimately plays a part in the business organisational growth. So yes, I believe that hope can determine the flow and outcome of a conversation. In this podcast, I share 5 practical ideas to shift your thinking and your feelings. I challenge you with 3 questions so that you can start using different words. Different words lead to different conversations with different outcomes. “Change your way of thinking. Use your energy to accomplish more productive things. The choice is yours and it can be made today!” Garrett Kingston If you are curious about how can help leverage your leadership strengths, please visit my website.

| How to successfully manage up | 02 Mar 2021 | 00:13:02 | |
Tony Robbins says that ‘According to Compton's Encyclopaedia, the English language contains some 500,000 words. Yet, the average person's working vocabulary consists of 2,000, 0.5% of the entire language. And, do you know the number of words we use most frequently, the words that make up our habitual vocabulary? For most people, it averages 200-300 words’. This is astonishing because it implies that the language you have been using may be more limited than you previously thought. So with this in mind, imagine now... Imagine being a middle leader with a new and experienced line manager who happens to be a micro-manager continually asking questions, having an opinion on everything you do, interfering in what you do daily and how you lead, high jacking your meetings with your teams, giving you feedback where you've no idea about the 'why' of this particular comment, for example, 'you need to be closer to your teams'. How would you feel? In this episode, I discuss what 'managing up' is and I explore the 7 essential tools to influence up. | How to accelerate your growth with coaching | 05 Feb 2021 | 00:51:00
This week, I'm focusing on the impact of coaching, I’ve invited Karen Foy, Lecturer Coaching and Behaviour Change at Henley Business School. Karen and I did a conversation analysis of one of my coaching sessions when I was preparing my re-accreditation from ICF. I loved the observations and perspectives that she shared with me on my own work. Karen is quoting Carl Jung in our conversation 'Once you've learned all your techniques and tools and models, you're just a human soul across from another human.' Karen says: Listen up if you want to know more. | Coaching a high-performing team to create top performance | 22 Jan 2021 | 01:02:11
Christine Billy and I share the passion for coaching high performing teams around the world. We also share the same birthday! It's funny how we hesitate when describing a high performing team as a crystal or as a diamond. Every diamond is a crystal but every crystal isn't a diamond. We're interested in the invisible and in the magic of high-performing teams. It's not because you are a high-achiever that you don't have barriers, invisible blocks or that little voice tormenting you. After all, whoever you are, you are a human being with a heart and lots of emotions. In our conversation, we spoke about - The need to align our mind and our heart - How to accelerate the success by implying the strategic transformation (and how to measure it) - The types of conflicts that high performing teams are facing and how to resolve them - The role of our intuition I love Christine's final message of hope. | The power of coaching conversations | 15 Jan 2021 | 00:53:30
"I can be who I choose to be" If you're curious about the power of coaching conversations and if you are a high achiever, then you'll love this podcast. Linley Rose, MCC, is my very special guest. I've known Linley for the past 16 years. She was my Executive Coach and has supported me through several promotions from being an Assistant Headteacher to becoming a Headteacher. She then coached my senior team and my staff. Being a high achiever does not mean that things are easy. They're not! Here are some of the questions that I asked Linley (and there were many more in between and after those) * You are working with leaders and high achievers. What’s your definition of high achiever? What’s the difference with being an ‘elite’? * Your clients are looking for clarity, focus, confidence and correctness. How do you measure the impact of coaching on those? * What are the types of conflicts that coaching that is reduced or eradicated when you have coaching? * You are a certified facilitator of tools: DISC, working style analysis. How reliable are those tools and how do you use them? * How are leaders challenged by COVID 19 and how can coaching help them? We agreed that there is a common characteristic that all leaders can have. Not all leaders display it. | How can your attitude help you resolve conflict? | 11 Dec 2020 | 00:56:48
'There is usually more than one story' One of the biggest challenges in a conflict is to listen. Emotions can run high. Anger tends to be a surface emotion. But if you look at what drives the anger, you will often find hurt, pain, or fear. Laura Kirkpatrick and Julie Farrell are both Mediators, Trainers, Conflict Coach and Restorative Justice Facilitators. They both work for Solution Talk, a North West based conflict resolution company specialising in Mediation, Training, Conflict Coaching & Restorative Justice. I love what they say about the role of Mediators 'Mediators ensure that people have an opportunity to have their say, be heard and work out what needs to change so they can work out a mutually acceptable solution.' In this podcast, we discussed:

| 9 ways to help you increase your resilience | 17 Nov 2020 | 00:36:55 | |
Back in August 2020, when I filled in the online application to be able to broadcast my own LinkedIn live, I had no idea about that very decision would test my resilience. This is why: On the one hand, I had that little voice in my head telling me: There are 706 million LinkedIn users so - Don't mess this up (I'd never used Streamyard before) - What if people didn't think that it was relevant or helpful - What if there was no impact
On the other hand, that little voice was also telling me: What a WONDERFUL opportunity to - Share thinking, engage people in a conversation that I don't know from around the world - Have a global voice, speak up and be heard - Grow a global network Resilience can be tested by adversity but also by positive changes. Listen to my podcast, where I talk about what the core components of resilience can be and where I share 9 tools to equip you with developing your own resilience. | How to use the power of words in mediation | 13 Nov 2020 | 00:54:57
When I research Jonathan Rodrigues to prepare for my podcast, I wasn’t surprised that he put a like to a post on LinkedIn from Charlie Irvine “We shape the world by our choice of words, so the world of other people’s conflict shapes us." Jonathan is a lawyer, civil, commercial and cross-border mediator in India. He speaks with passion about mediation and is very clear about the legacy that he wants to have with 1.3 billion in India “there is scope for mediation. It’s about creating a different future for those people." Jonathan says “every morning we wake up to #missionmediation” In our conversation, we talked about: - The landscape of mediation in India - How to promote mediation in India - What he learnt by doing his TED Talk on ‘multi-door dispute resolution’ - The role of AI in mediation - How to manage the difference of opinions Jonathan speaks about the influence that Owen Fiss (Yale Law school) "Against settlement" has had on his way of thinking. My favourite quote from this episode: “The most thrilling part of mediation is when you take away all that noise to start a proper conversation” If you have any questions or if you’d like to discuss how conflict resolution training can help your organisation, email me at npowrie@nadinepowrie.com. | How to achieve powerful mediation to resolve conflict | 06 Nov 2020 | 00:51:16
I was very honoured to interview Andrew Miller QC for my 73rd podcast on #Leadingthecoachingchange. Hands up that I felt a little intimidated as Andrew is a QC and I've never done a podcast with a QC before but as Andrew said: "I've always been approachable, the letters just get stuck on the end of your name". Andrew is a highly respected barrister, mediator, arbitrator and conciliator. As I was preparing for our conversation, I was seriously wondering if there was anything Andrew can't do! Genuinely kind, humble and approachable, Andrew and I talked for over 55 minutes over: - What the Civil/Commercial Mediator Award 2020 meant for him - What the qualities of a successful mediator are -The impact of COVID-19 on commercial mediation and the resolution disputes in general - How he manages the difference of opinions in mediations - His mediation style Andrew is also the Chair of the Trustees for the Charity 'The Compassionate Friends' (TCF). | How to get off the conflict roundabout | 30 Oct 2020 | 00:42:18
Nancy Radford, who is my special guest on this new episode of #leadingthecoachingchange, brings something to the table "we're here to kind of help people in a way that helps them not need us anymore. So in effect, I'm really all about making myself redundant. Because you know, you're not going to be here forever." Nancy is a passionate mediator and speaks with her heart. She shares with us her insights on: - The importance of understanding someone else's pain - The benefits of using online mediation - How the work of Martin Seligman, Tom Rath, Mark Goulston have supported her own approach to mediation - How ONE book changed her life - Her passion for SEND mediations Aren’t you sold yet to listen to this episode? I am! My favourite quote from this episode: 💬 “People need to feel heard people need to feel that they matter. And I think good mediators and great mediators make everyone feel they matter. And once you feel you matter, you calm down and the flight and fight response lowers. And you can think logically, and most people, if they can think logically it can find a way out of more situations." Thank you, Nancy, for being a guest on my podcast. | Why is mediation the "most powerful' tool in the world of dispute resolution | 22 Oct 2020 | 00:47:51
I am delighted to welcome Srdan Simac to my latest episode of #Leadingthecoaching change podcast. Srdan Simac is a judge, a mediator, arbitrator, lawyer in Croatia. If you follow his work, you'll see that he walks the talk. Srdan Simac shares his compelling story about his journey, his career and his philosophy of life (and mediation). He is humble, caring.
Srdan made reference to:
My favourite quotes in this episode "Mediation is teaching us about communication skills, how to communicate, how to use words, how to change our perspective." But as a mediator, can you imagine, I have so-called "natural authority"? What does it mean? They choose me because they believe that I can help them. That is a huge privilege that somebody with the big problem in his or her life or business, choose you as a person and give you trust to help them, so I feel so privileged." Thank you Srdan Simac for this unforgettable moment. I improve employee well-being through conflict resolution training. Email me at npowrie@nadinepowrie.com. | How to use numbers to accelerate business growth | 10 Sep 2020 | 00:35:06
IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING - BE YOURSELF! My guest this week is Jo Soley. As a Business Coach, Jo shows you how to harness the power of the energies of Numerology to elevate your business success. I first heard about Jo when she was invited to a Podcast with Janet Murray, back in January 2020 and I got curious! I had 2 urgent questions:
I hesitated in inviting Jo on my podcast because It’s not the kind of podcast interview I normally do and I knew that potentially we could have a difficult conversation on Zoom because, for a start, I did not believe in numerology. In this podcast episode of #Leadingthecoachingchange, Jo reminds us that 'Numerology is as old as the hills. Emperor Nero is associated with it. The Egyptians used in the Hieroglyphics. The Ancient Greeks used it. Pythagoras referenced it in terms of the religion of numbers. Music uses Numerology with strings and tones.' Jo introduces us to Bizology and says: - We are all unique - we are meant to be. We can do things and act in a way that no-one else can do - Be yourself because everyone else is taken - Today I will do what others won't. So tomorrow I can do what others can't - There's a huge amount of freedom that comes to you when you take nothing personally - Ultimately our success is down to us Jo and I talked about
My favourite quote from this episode: "I'm saying keep your seatbelts on to the end of the year, stay in your lane with regards to your numeric energies, concentrate on the personal year you're in, do what you have to do until the end of the year. So I'm saying kind of ride it out, energetically'. | How to be a transformational leader | 10 Jul 2020 | 00:31:57
Do you remember when I talked about Disruptive Leadership with Simon Harmer ‘Zig when everyone zags’ in my podcast? Louise Hall, Director of HR and OD at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust commented on Linkedin that 'It’s easier to do this when you are a senior leader'. Well, I invited Louise Hall on my latest episode of #leadingthecoachingchange podcast to discuss transformational leadership and she immediately accepted. I love that! Louise and I talked about - The importance of doing the right thing - How relationships can shape the transformation - What the best teams look like - How not to become the leader that you don't want to be
My favourite quote from this episode: 💬 “As you get more senior, it’s easier to challenge the status quo. There is an acceptance, whether it’s right or wrong, because of the position you’re in, that you can do what you think is right, as opposed to just do what the policies or standards of ways of doing things is’ As an Executive and Leadership Coach, I enable leaders to influence change faster through the power of conversations. "I'm writing to encourage us to look at what we can do because it's so easy to become despondent and to really feed defeated. How can I make the world a better place with my actions" says Leisa Grace Wilson "How can I do better as a human? How can I do better as a woman? How can I do better as a white woman?" says Nadine Powrie I am delighted to be join by Leisa Grace Wilson in one of my episodes of #leadingthecoachingchange podcast to discuss racial equality. We discussed ✔️ How we can make a difference through our actions ✔️ The types of questions that we need to eradicate in our daily conversations ✔️ How to analyze problems from a broader perspective and challenge established ways of thinking My favourite quote from this episode: 💬 “You're not going to get rid of ideological thinking and white supremacy by marching through the streets” As an Executive and Leadership Coach, I enable leaders to influence change faster through the power of conversations. | How to become the most interesting person in the room | 19 Jun 2020 | 00:17:45
Apparently, to be the most interesting person in the room, you need to be confident, smile and have things to talk about. Do that and people will be intrigued by you. That’s what people say! To be the most interesting person in the room, be disruptive. That’s what I'd say. Explore the power of conversations. Light the fire and sit in it. See the process unfold and work with it. How do you notice the disruption in the room? Give yourself permission to ask 3 questions. Keep asking those questions. 1 of them you must ask 5 times (at least) Guaranteed results... I challenge you to try!
My favourite quotes from this episode: 💬 “What genius do you bring to your organisation?” 💬 “What is the level of safety here”? I enable leaders to influence change faster through the power of conversations. If you are curious about how can help leverage your leadership strengths, please visit my website.

| How to be a successful boss | 28 May 2020 | 00:32:43 | |
Trust is the basis for almost everything we do and research shows that trust is based on 3 pillars - Positive relationships - Expertise (walk the talk) - Consistency But trust is more than that! HRB reports that "Employees in high-trust organisations are more productive, have more energy at work, collaborate better with their colleagues, and stay with their employers longer than people working at low-trust companies. They also suffer less chronic stress and are happier with their lives, and these factors fuel stronger performance." This week, in my latest episode of #leadingthecoachingchange podcast, I have a special guest Tarek Alami. Listen up if you want to understand ⭐️ What skills you need to be a #change leader ⭐️ How to influence your colleagues and your clients towards a common goal ⭐️ How #ROI was always important (and now only suddenly now!) ⭐️How to use your 6th sense My favourite quote from this episode: 💬 “If people have faith and #trust in you, then you’ll have a greater success in influencing the direction in which you want to go.’ If you are curious about how can help leverage your leadership strengths, please visit my website.
| How managers can support women after maternity leave | 23 May 2020 | 00:32:43 | |
Emma Waltham helps organisations support women returning to work after maternity through coaching, consultancy and training. What an impressive background! “I think I’ve been a bit naive about what the reality is when you’ve got an employment gap.” “The Government Qualities Office, in their research, compared interestingly, working mothers to working fathers that working with as a half as likely to have received a promotion within five years than a working father. | How to drive change successfully | 23 May 2020 | 00:36:37
Dr Phyl Hughes is a Business Psychologist at H2Pro. She is a coach, working with a range of mid to top layer leaders in the UK. Her USP as a coach is at the meeting point of you-your strategy-your organisation. She asks if this is the strategic direction of your firm, what do your leadership behaviours need to look like to deliver it. Dr Phyl’s work on culture change piece from top level to mid level. I always love finding a common denominator with the people I interview on my podcast and with Dr Phyl, it is the definition of what a leader is “the role of a leader is about being a translator.” – “It is about guiding people to be clear about their strategic direction, and then how that has a genuine meaning on how they are as a leader with that.” – “People have a curious psychology around change, in that they crave it, but then when they do engage with it is daunting, even if that change is what they’d wished for.” – “Organisations have their own particular habits in how they go about managing change and a whole set of expectations, mindsets , fear, fantasies, and enablers, blockers that either make change fly or get in the way of it .” – “I suggest to people that they need to think about change in 3 areas: what it needs to change, why it does need to change and how we go about that change”. On this episode of the Leading The Coaching Change, you’ll also hear: * How to understand the difference between efficient and effective ways of approaching, engaging and being comfortable with change * What Dr Phyl’s views are on models of change * What the role of a leader is about being a translator * How use the concept of congruence within the language of change (And there were so many more points in this one I can’t even cover here – be sure to listen to get them all.)
