220. You are FIRST daughter10 Jun 202500:25:17

"We love because he first loved us" 1 John 4:19

Mother, Bride, Sister, Colleague, Friend...these are identities and roles many of us play and have been called to. But what if one of the hurdles we have that keeps us from fully living the divinely appointed vocations we are called to is that we often forget that we are FIRST daughter.

We can often feel overwhelmed by all of our daily responsibilities and duties. So many people rely on us that we can frequently lose sight of our belovedness, of our first and eternal identity as daughters. Momma, friend, you are first his most precious daughter.

When we are able to rest, live, and love sitting under the care and gaze of our heavenly Father, we become more free to love fully those around us.

121. Maybe All We Need is a Nap, a Hug, and Something Good to Eat09 May 202300:24:46

Are you weary and exhausted? Do you find yourself slumped against the wall, tears in your eyes, with an overwhelming sense of defeat? Why won't the kids just listen, follow through, and stop falling apart whenever they are asked to do something that seems too hard?

This is the place that I met Jesus this week, and he quickly whispered truth into my frail heart. Maybe, just maybe, like Elijah, all we need is a little nap, a hug, and something good to eat!

120. You Are Good02 May 202300:17:47

My friends, I wonder - do you know that you are GOOD? The idea that we are inherently good because we were made in the image of God is something our success-driven, perfection-seeking world often leaves us forgetting. But I am here to remind you that YOU ARE GOOD. I pray that you lean into this beautiful truth, as God whispers it and blesses it over you so that you may more abundantly breathe it over your children, spouse, friends, or anyone else God has laid in your path.

119. Freeing the Feminine Heart from Fear and Shame - with Carrie Daunt25 Apr 202300:40:23

“I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

What if we weren’t meant to remain hiding in the garden, but instead in the freedom of knowing we are living under the loving  gaze of our Heavenly Father?

This week I chat with the lovely Carrie Daunt, of the John Paul II Healing Center, around the reality that many of us women are hiding our true feminine identity behind the walls of fear and shame.  She discusses how we can step out of the darkness and into God’s light by authentically living with the feminine hearts we were created with.

118. The Cherry on Top 18 Apr 202300:22:15

"In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." Ephesians 4:26

There is one particular time of day that can be the most trying, the most exhausting, and the most frustrating for young parents: the bedtime shuffle. This week I discuss the calling to fulfill our obligation of charity through a gentleness and peaceful disposition at bedtime so that our children can rest their hearts and their bodies in the security of our love, which will serve to lead them to the most secure love - God Himself.

117. Hallelujah is Our Song!11 Apr 202300:23:47

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song!” - St. Pope John Paul II

Happy Easter my lovely friends! This week we sing from the mountaintops "Hallelujah". It isn't always easy, but on the battleground of life we are called to go forth with PRAISE first just as the tribe of Judah (which means "Praise") was called to go up the mountain first.

But whether you are screaming "Hallelujah," or you are whispering a quiet "Jesus, Jesus", God hears your praise, and He delights in your heart.

116. Loving Through Our Wounds - Friendship & Sisterhood w/ Emily Jaminet04 Apr 202300:40:46

What if the wounds of rejection or abandonment have robbed us from opening ourselves up to the life-giving beauty of spiritual friendship?  This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Emily Jaminet, the co-author of "The Friendship Project", which she wrote with her own lovely friend Michele Faehnle. 115. Healing - It's NEVER too Late for Restoration 28 Mar 202300:22:59

Hours before his death, the Good  Thief took a radical course of action and confidently cried out for Christ's mercy: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom" - Luke 23: 42. Through an incredible moment of confidence in God's goodness, a man who once lived a life of crime became our first known saint. The thief who stole heaven!

How often does the enemy lock up our hearts in fear and shame? We walk around with a massive wall, built brick by brick with our own hands, that tragically becomes a barrier between Christ and us. What if we aren't meant to end our stories as Judas, but rather as Peter? What if Christ desires to display his ceaseless mercy in and through us?

114. Wounds: Healing is NOT the end game21 Mar 202300:32:32

This week I continue our Lenten conversation on wounds. The heart heals in many ways similar to that of the body, which is far more complex than we often even realize.

We walk through a simple analogy to explore how the heart heals similarly to the way our body heals a scrape or a cut. The most critical part of our healing journey is to allow the rich oxygen of Christ's love to flow through and to our wounded places so that restoration and healing are possible.

But we must remember that healing itself is NOT the endgame. Rather restoration and redemption  serve to make us whole once again, so that we are free to  “go in PEACE” and  love one another.

113. Loving Through Our Wounds - Marriage - with Beth Sri14 Mar 202300:51:32

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." -John 15:12

This week we continue our conversation on loving others through our wounds. Second to being a child of God, our primary vocation on this earth for married individuals is our role as wives (or husbands) . But many of us bring wounds and broken parts of us into our marriage. So how do we love each other through our wounds, both those of us with deep places to be healed, and those of us who love our spouse who carries wounds that need healing.

This week I welcome my lovely friend Beth Sri to explore marriage and journey of healing. Beth shares her own experiences and wisdom of walking hand and hand with Jesus through healing and how that has been a hard but beautiful experience in her marriage.

112. Loving Through Our Wounds - Motherhood - with Dr. Bob Schuchts07 Mar 202300:36:56

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

It can be a painful process to open ourselves up to healing our deep wounds. In fact, it can feel like an insurmountable task to love and tend to the needs of the little souls in our homes while we are knee-deep in our healing journey.  And yet, there is an unearthly joy that we may receive by meeting Christ in these very intimate and raw places.  So how do we love through our wounds?

This week I welcome back speaker, author, and my dear friend Dr. Bob Schuchts.  Bob sheds light on how tending to the wounds within is one of the best ways in which we can love our children.

210. The "She Loved" Letters: Love Endures All Things with Bonnie Landry. Motherhood! 01 Apr 202500:38:57

"Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

I am so excited to kick off our "She Love Letters" series! I have heard from so many of you about the powerful impact this book is having on your heart and I'm overwhelmed in the best kind of way. I am so delighted to start sharing the hearts of these mommas in a real intimate way through the conversations of the She Loved series.

This week I sit down and chat with my own momma mentor, the sweet and wonderful Bonnie Landry. We chat about all things motherhood, what it was like writing a letter to her younger self, and the calling for our love to endure all things. I hope her heart blesses you as much as it always blesses me!

110. Friendship - Let's Suffer Together21 Feb 202300:21:48

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

Our crosses and our sufferings can create a sense of isolation and loneliness in the depths of our hearts. We secretly fear and believe that no one struggles in the way that we do. And though our crosses are often unique to our own path of sanctification, we must remember that in this imperfect world, EVERYONE SUFFERS.

In fact, Christ guaranteed that "In this world you will have trouble," but he also tells us to take heart for he has "conquered the world!" - John 16:33.  One of the ways in which we have the strength to endure the struggles of this world is to do it with others. St. Paul tells us that we were never meant to carry our burdens alone. Rather, through carrying each other's burdens we are able to taste and see the love of Christ. And merely knowing we are not alone in our burdens, the weight of our crosses may slowly begin to lighten.

In this bonus episode, we reflect on the Sunday Gospel for February 19, 2023. Okay, my friends, it's time to buckle up because Christ is calling us to great heights when he asks us to love our enemies and be perfect just as our heavenly father is perfect.

108. Friendship - Let's Crush the Competition14 Feb 202300:29:59

"A tranquil heart gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones." - Proverbs 14:30

Today I continue the conversation around friendships. I wanted to explore one way in which many of our friendships become poisoned and wounded: through ENVY.

If "through the devil’s envy death entered the world" (Wisdom 2:24), it should be no surprise to us how competition and envy can kill friendships. However, there are ways in which we can combat the enemy's trap and live within life-giving sisterhoods.

107. Friendship - Let's Get Vulnerable07 Feb 202300:33:44

Ladies, it is time we get vulnerable!

I firmly believe that there is a massive poverty of love in our world today because we live behind a dark cold cloak of protection. We guard and hide ourselves from being seen and thus starve from the lack of nourishment and encouragement that being fully known and loved would provide.

St Maximilian Kolbe speaks to the importance and gift of friendship when he says "God sends us friends to be our firm support in the whirlpool of struggle. In the company of friends, we will find strength to attain our sublime ideal.”

How can we attain the strength to move towards all that is good, beautiful, and true, if we have left our truest selves hidden behind a wall of perfectionism and performance? In the safety of a loving friend, God desires to give us the strength to persevere through the struggles of life.

My friends, it is time we get VULNERABLE!

106. Motherhood - The Ultimate Makeover with Carrie Gress (Theology of Home)31 Jan 202300:39:19

Like a master sculptor shaping us into new creations through the blows that come with each spilled cup, every lost hour of sleep, and all that laundry, God is giving us the ultimate makeover. Motherhood is not merely a quick phase to endure until we “can have our life back,” but a much deeper gift. It is a divine makeover, forming us for eternity.” ~ Carrie Gress

This week I chat with the lovely Carrie Gress of Theology of Home about Motherhood as God's design for a divine transformation. We discuss Carrie's book The Ultimate Makeover, God's calling on the maternal heart, and the sanctifying beauty of the vocation of leading little souls back to Him.

105. We Were Never Meant to be MANAGED24 Jan 202300:30:02

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

Organizations are in the business of managing people and processes. However, the dignity of the human person in the context of relationships was never something that was meant to be managed. In fact, when God asked us to shepherd his children in love, he never asked us to manage them. Instead, he asks us to train them up in the way they should go; toward a life lived loving, serving, and glorifying God in this life so they may live with him forever in the next.

Join me as I discuss the different nuances of training vs. managing.

Bonus Episode! In this episode, we are diving into and reflecting on the upcoming Sunday Gospel for January 22nd 2023 (Matthew 4:12-23) . This Gospel is one we have heard dozens, if not hundreds of times over the years. But is it merely a simple story of how Jesus chose his first apostles??

No, it is a story of utter obedience and surrender. It  reminds us that in order to   follow Christ with an immediacy , we must be willing to drop all of our “nets” that may be be holding us back.

Hope you all have a blessed week friends!

103. What if Your Home was Built on Sand? 17 Jan 202300:25:19

What if you want to build your house upon rock, but it was already built on sand? Many of us have foundations built upon the unstable grounds of sand. It leads to cracks in our walls, windows that won't shut, and uneven flooring. Yet, God is a God of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding.

Let God come in and transform your grainy sand into solid rock, the most perfect Rock, God himself!

102. Where are you God? 10 Jan 202300:22:52

We can often find ourselves relating to Psalm 102:2 "Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call"

We can feel utterly alone and abandoned by God when we suffer, struggle, and hurt. We can feel as though he has turned away from us, leaving us to drown in the raging seas. Yet, it is precisely in these times that the King of the world draws closer than ever.

"Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will SUSTAIN you. I have made you and I will CARRY you; I will sustain you and I will RESCUE you. " Isaiah 46:4

209. Teach Them to Pray25 Mar 202500:28:35

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I give you today. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you’re at home or away, when you lie down or get up. Write them down, and tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands as a reminder. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." Deuteronomy 6:5-9

It isn't enough to simply have them follow the orchestrated and organized motions of their faith. Instead, we mommas are called to teach our children to love God with all of their hearts, all of their souls, and all of their strength. To love God means to spend time with him. Praying is our most intimate way of communicating with the King of the World. But what if simply telling our children to pray is not enough? What if we need to witness what it means to have a personal relationship with God and teach our children the fruit and gift of talking with Jesus.

101. Hush - What's Your Word? 03 Jan 202300:35:04

Happy New Year! One of my all-time favorite Bible verses has been ringing in my ears for years; "Be Still and Know that I am God" - Psalms 46;10. Yet, this isn't some simple reminder to know who God is, but rather it is a direct command by the King of the World to first BE STILL before we can fully know God.

This week I discuss the word that God has called my heart to focus on this year: Hush. As an extrovert, podcaster, and one who loves to chat with others, it is no surprise that God calls me to a quiet hush as he teaches me, teaches all of us, how to be stilled in Him.  There is a constant call placed upon the heart of each of us to still our hearts in Christ. In fact, this a continuation of the main mission here at Latte & Laundry, which is to journey towards stilling our souls while moving our world. Learning how to sit still at the feet of Christ like Mary, while moving in this world like Martha.

I hope you all have a blessed new year! I'd love to hear what word God has given you and how he is working in your heart!

Blessings,
Suzanne

100. Motherhood is Heroic27 Dec 202200:30:59

You guys!!! Here we are at episode 100. I am so honored and humbled that God thought I could be worthy of journeying alongside each of you.

This week we talk about an important truth - the truth that MOTHERHOOD IS HEROIC!

The venerable Fulton Sheen so profoundly said: “It is well known that women are capable of far more sustained sacrifice than men; a man may be a hero in a crisis, and then slip back to mediocrity. He lacks the moral endurance which enables a woman to be heroic through the years, months, days and even seconds of her life, when the very repetitive monotony of her tasks wears down the spirit. Not only a woman's days, but her nights- not only her mind, but her body must share in the Calvary of motherhood. That is why women have a surer understanding of the doctrine of redemption than men have: they have come to associate the risk of death with life in childbirth, and to understand the sacrifice of self to another through the many months preceding it."

I pray this quote and this episode breathe life into your beautiful and heroic motherhood heart!

Blessings my friends.

99. Too busy to be captivated?20 Dec 202200:22:13

As we near Christmas, I was overwhelmed by the fact that we often miss the opportunity to be captivated by the King of the world. The shepherds and the Magi were all captivated by a tiny baby wrapped in swaddling cloths, but how many people likely passed by the stable without any reverence for the Glory of all that took place in the arms of a virgin and a carpenter?

We too have the glory of God set out before us in the Eucharist, in the inner souls of those around us, and in our own hearts, and yet how often do we pass by without a care in the world?

Let us be like the Magi, like the shepherds, and be CAPTIVATED by our Lord.

Hope you all have a blessed week!

God bless my friends!

98. Trust Enough to Persevere 13 Dec 202200:26:18

Are you weary? Do you feel like your efforts to mother well, or love well, are often a lost effort? When we are deep in the trenches of motherhood, we often can not see the fruit of all of our work. It can feel overwhelming when our days and weeks of disciplining and training up our children run into each other with little realization of the beauty that takes place in our home.

God tells us in Luke 21:19 that "By your perseverance, you will secure your lives!" But do we believe it? This week, I pray that we can all trust enough that we persevere through the difficult and the hard, so we may have the grace and joy of recognizing the beauty and fruit which God plans to bring forth from all of the Yeses we say to the work He has laid out before us.

God bless my friends!

97. Perfect Forgiveness - with Jess Echeverry06 Dec 202200:53:36

"But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you." Luke 6:27

This week I sit down with speaker, advocate, author, and friend Jessica Echeverry to discuss the very important topic of forgiveness.

Her journey to reach a forgiveness towards those the world would call "unforgiveable" is nothing short of a miraculous grace from God. But how did she get here? And how do we similarly find a forgiveness that not only heals our own hearts but loves the hearts of those who have harmed us?

Listen to Jessica's beautiful testimony and the ways in which God calls us perfectly forgive.

95. To Die Beautifully22 Nov 202200:21:58

We are called on a weekly, daily, and minute-by-minute basis, to die to ourselves.  Die to our selfishness, die to our plans, die to our will, and instead become fully alive as God has so wonderfully designed us.

But how we die is the big question! Do we drag our feet, begrudgingly complain, and fall apart at the seams? Or like the leaves in the fall, do we die so beautifully that we glow with the love and wonder of the Creator of Life himself?

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him" John 12:24-26

This week is a very real and raw episode for me. This episode touches very close to home for me within very intimate and hidden places in my heart. God has revealed so much to me over the last few weeks about the beautiful way in which he tends to the holes, gaps, and deep caverns of wounds and unfulfilled desires that reside in our souls.

I hope this episode blesses and encourages the weary heart, just as Christ has slowly been encouraging mine.

92. Called to Sainthood with Melissa Dee (Saints Alive Podcast)01 Nov 202200:36:48

This week I am so delighted to sit down with my new friend Melissa Dee to discuss the universal call to holiness, the truth that we have ALL been called to sainthood.

It can often feel overwhelming or intimidating when we realize that we too, sinful and all, have been called to glorify God through our lives. And yet, most of our saint-making is often done in the hidden places.

As Saint Faustina once said, "Jesus loves hidden souls. A hidden flower is the most fragrant. I must strive to make the interior of my soul a resting place for the Heart of Jesus."

Melissa is the primary scriptwriter and producer for the new Saints Alive Podcast, a radio theater podcast for kids. But don't be fooled my friends, their podcast will not only delight your children but will also bless your own heart. Melissa, her husband Alex, and their team member Tanner have a wonderful way of telling heroic stories of the lives of the saints. Storytelling is a beautiful way to infuse our children with truth and beauty, just as the ultimate storyteller - Christ himself - has always done!

208. Where is Your Ministry ? 11 Mar 202500:37:37

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord." 1 Peter 4:10-11

This week, I discuss the calling of ministry work. We have all been gifted with various charisms to love and serve the church. But in our obedience to the Holy Spirit, we must remember that he will never call us to serve at the cost of loving our first ministry, that which is loving the people in our homes.

91. "But you wouldn't KNOW me"25 Oct 202200:27:51

Knowing God and knowing OF God are not the same thing.

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me" Matthew 7:21-23

We may subconsciously believe that the fact that we know a lot about our Savior means we know our Savior. And yet, the Lord desires for us to know him deeply and personally.

Through His living Word, God has revealed his true character. Our Lord is a merciful, just, compassionate, gracious, good, and loving God. He is infinitely wise and perfect and reveals himself so beautifully when we take the time to invite him into a personal relationship with us.

Let us grow in greater communion with our most perfect God so that when we leave this earth He will say to us "Yes, I knew  you!"

But it is precisely through this vocation of sacrifice and self-giving that we become purified and sanctified! Motherhood is a mission field that encompasses the entirety of mankind since as John Paul II beautifully said “the history of EVERY HUMAN BEING passes through the threshold of a woman’s motherhood”

87. Let Them Cry27 Sep 202200:19:13

Okay, my friends, we discuss the divinely designed reality of tears this week. Tears, especially those of our little children, can sometimes trigger an emotionally intense response. Our hearts may race, our palms might sweat, and we may suddenly feel an anxious compulsion to fix the pain and eliminate the tears.

And yet, God in his most perfect wisdom, designed the human heart to release an exterior expression of our interior world through tears. Though it hurts us to watch others in pain, the tears of our child should signal an opportunity to love and connect. So rather than wanting to shut down tears as soon as they start, let us run to the tear-filled child, wipe their eyes, listen to their heart, and connect.

Hope you all have a blessed week!

86. Homeschooling the Family - TAN Academy with Krista Thomas20 Sep 202200:40:34

This week I chat with the lovely Krista Thomas from TAN Academy about the wonderful program that TAN has put together for homeschooling families.  Although it may not be God's design for every family, for me, homeschooling has always been about growing, learning, exploring, and loving as a family unit. It has been about developing a family culture that can be a living witness of Christ's love. TAN's program is designed to do just that.

For all of my lovely friends here who are either discerning homeschooling, or already deep in the beautiful trenches of it, you are going to want to listen to this episode. Krista shares her heart, her wisdom, and her passion for helping to shepherd homeschooling families to thrive.

85. Withdraw and Serve13 Sep 202200:23:10

"When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he WITHDREW in a boat to a DESERTED place by himself."

As I have been experiencing my own places of deep sorrow and pain, I couldn't help but be surprised and inspired by Christ's own example of walking through pain.

Jesus did not merely retreat to hide from authorities. No, I believe, that even the wounded heart of the King of the Universe is moved to moments of needed solitude. He wept at the death of Lazarus, and withdrew once learning of the death of John the Baptist.

Christ, himself, shows us the authenticity and necessity of the human heart. It may shed tears and withdraw or retreat to tend to the broken wound of pain and sorrow. BUT, this is not where He remained. No, "his heart was moved" for the hurting needs of others...so he loved and served.

We, too, are called to love like Christ. When we are in the deep heavy waters of pain and sorrow, it may just be the capacity to still love and serve others that will draw us out of hiding and wipe away our tears. And when our heart's capacity multiples, like the fishes and loaves, it may just be the secret little miracle God is working in us.

84. Jesus, Mary, and the Saints06 Sep 202200:21:17

This week we wrap up our final episode of I Believe in Love, by discussing the final chapter - Jesus, Mary, and the Saints.

Sara and I have had a deeply meaningful time diving deep into this book together with all of you. A special thanks to my sweet friend Sara as it has been a treat to have her on the podcast.

Discussion Questions:

1. “At the origin of redemption of those souls whom God has resolved to save through YOU must be also your loving abandonment, your Ecce ancilla (‘Behold the Handmaid’), your fiat. What can you do to imitate Mary’s abandonment.

2. “She knew that all crosses were, in the divine plan, necessary for the salvation of men and the greatest proof of love which Jesus could give her.” What can you do imitate Mary’s heroism of the cross?

3. He [Peter] needed a lesson. So he got one…He received grace, he received mercy, he repented, he wept, and he was more filled with grace afterward than if he had not denied Christ.” Have you ever failed and become stronger and wiser for it?

83. The Eucharist30 Aug 202200:33:20

“Jesus and all the treasures of heaven are ours on the altar.” This week Sara joins me once again to discuss conference number 9 of I Believe in Love, on the Eucharist.

Father Jean shares the beauty and glorious gift of Jesus in the Eucharist .  “The Mass is the divine act around which the lodge of the Church gravitates and of which she is the radiance; the center from which she receives all impulses and toward which she is continually directed; the living source from which she proceeds and the ocean to which she returns”

And after receiving Jesus in the Eucharist at each and every Mass, we get go out into the world glorifying God as our own personal Eucharistic adoration chapels.

Discussion Questions:

1. “At the moment of receiving Communion, say to Jesus, ‘Jesus, I come to You because I am weak, because I am miserable, because I am a sinner. I come to You because I have so much need of You.” Do you feel a great need to receive Communion?

2. The Mass is so important, yet most of us attend only once a week. What keeps us from making the Mass a higher priority?

3. Being part of the royal priesthood means that we are to bring holiness to every aspect of our life and every activity in our day. In what ways do you bring holiness into your daily life? In what other ways can we do this?

82. The Cross23 Aug 202200:36:32

“The  most beautiful smiles are those which shine through tears, that we give in spite of ourselves “

This week Sara and I discuss the often heavy, but yet so beautiful cross. This is one of my favorite chapters of  I Believe in Love, baca use it is in learning how to willingly carry our crosses that we begin to most closely resemble cross glorifier himself, Christ!

Discussion Questions:

1. “A great cross is, very often, the prelude to a great grace, even for an unbeliever. Suffering ripens the soul, sometimes very quickly. A great trial can, with one stroke, detach a sore from all that is created; it can be the source of a total conversion.” Have you experienced A conversion as a result of a great trial, or have you seen this happen to someone close to you?

2. “Sufferjnf is a goldmine to exploit for saving souls, for helping missionaries, for being a hidden apostle. What happiness it is to be able to suffer when we cannot act!” Do you have a focus for your suffering, so that when they come your way, you are prepared to offer them up for that intention?

3. “ In our days, how many plans we make, little calculations - very often unconscious, I must say - which are made simply to avoid suffering!” parents want to protect their children. Are we doing a disservice to our children - whether our own children, our grandchildren, or other children in our lives - by not allowing them to suffer? How can we teach them to suffer gracefully?

81. The Apostolate16 Aug 202200:37:44

"The charity of charities is the Apostolate"

As we continue our book study on I Believe in Love, we explore what it means to live the life of an apostle. Father Jean says, "To be an apostle is to give Jesus to souls and souls to Jesus by making Him known in order to make Him loved, by filling yourself with Him in order to give Him, according to the beautiful definition of Father Mateo, 'An apostle is a chalice full of Jesus which overflows onto souls.'

I'm not sure about you friends, but my heart greatly desires to be this chalice full of Christ himself, which overflows onto others.

Discussion Questions:

1. "You know that the prayer of prayers is the Mass; perfect adoration, perfect expiation, perfect thanksgiving, it is also perfect supplication of the immolated Jesus; it is the dearest treasure of the apostolate." How is the Mass a "treasure" for you? How can attending Mass with a surrendered disposition, no matter how chaotic this busy season of life is, be a source of great treasure for those with littles?

2."He Himself needs others, because He wishes to use them as His instruments...So many diverse fields of activity are open today to those who want to be apostles." How are you currently being used as an instrument for Christ? Do you desire to be used more? In what way?

3. How can you use prayer and suffering to be an apostle for the Church?

80. Fraternal Charity09 Aug 202200:39:01

“Learn  from me because I am meek and humble of heart.” Father Jean points out that here, in Matthew 11:29, it is the only time that Jesus explicitly tells us to learn from him. And why? To show us that fraternal charity doesn’t begin with money in our pockets, or time spent to serve, but instead if starts from  the posture of our hearts, a meek and humble posture.

This week Sara Hunter and I continue our book study conversation of I Believe in Love, on the most recent chapter on Fraternal Charity.

Discussion Questions:

1. “We are, without intending it, excellent instruments of humiliation and mortification for each other.  Love others, not in spite of that, but because of it.” Think of something that has happened to you that caused you humiliation. How did you react? How could you have reacted with love and gratitude?

79. Great Desire, Humility, & Peace02 Aug 202200:43:07

“Routine, terrible routine is the daughter of apathy. In order to rise out of mediocrity and lukewarmness, RENEW YOUR DESIRES”

This week, Sara and I dive head first into Chapter 5 of I Believe in Love , and we discuss the hidden importance of having a thirst and desire for Christ. This can seem intimidating, especially when we can become so aware of our broken and sinful ways. Yet, it is often precisely through an acknowledgment of our own littleness, as St. Therese so beautifully lived out, that sets our hearts in the direction of a fiery desire for communion with God.

Discussion Questions:

1. “ How many souls I have that you have experienced these beautiful enthusiasms, yet, in admitting their weakness, their apparent mediocrity, their lack of progress, have let themselves little by little be overrun by discouragement.” Has this happened to you? Is there a desire you have about which you feel discouraged?

2.” A ravishing form of humility is simplicity. It is the charm of those who know how to put themselves in their proper place and are not puffed up in their own eyes.” Can you think of someone in your own life who can be described this way? In what way can you imitate them?

3. “ It is a duty for you to spread this sweet and joyful peace around you… Not like judges of  peace but like angels of peace.” How can you be an angel of peace in your home, at work, at school, toward a stranger?
