We're just not quite ready to let Harrison Ford go yet, so we move seamlessly from Clear and Present Danger to Air Force One, a roughly contemporaneous movie that could fit very neatly into the Jack Ryan universe, as canonically Jack does become President of the United States, in part for his actions during Clear and Present Danger. I hate knowing so much about these fuckin films. A barely-concealed reaction to the Yugoslavian War, and in particular the Bosnian Genocide, this movie shows the president making a speech in which he promises the US will involve itself at the first sign of humanitarian crisis, rather than waiting for international consensus. This prompts a group of communist revanchists (Led by Gary Oldman) to invade and take control of Air Force One, the president's private plane.

Continuing the trend that Abi started by bringing us Totally Spies last time, we're taking a deep dive in to Alice's favourite childhood film, a movie that really meant a lot to her growing up. And even though it's kind of shit, (It's a 1970s 'comedy' with no discernable jokes, A fun premise that completely falls flat after a catestrophic mishandling, and to cap it all off, a trainwreck of a production process) we stuck with it because, having watched it, we now feel closer to our dear friend Alice.

Jack Ryan is made Acting Deputy Director of the CIA when his mentor James Earl Jones, here playing the character of America, falls ill. Jack immediately is a naive dipshit and gets himself Embroiled. Irish Sean Bean swears revenge against him for killing his little brother, and hunts him down across America.

the American release for this nearly had the tagline 'there has never been a terrorist attack on American soil', which they got rid of because it seemed like too much of a challenge.

Alright this one fucking sucked. This movie is genuinely the most misogynistic movie I have ever seen, and I'm saying that as someone who has JUST watched every Bond movie in order. Jackie Chan wanted to meet stephen spielberg so he agreed to do this movie about a cabbie who becomes a chauffeur to James Bond (Real), then inherits his super powered tuxedo when things get sticky. Alright let me initially make the case for this movie: This is the single biggest movie in Hong Kong at the height of the classic hong kong era of movies (the year 1984), and it parodies beats and characters from the bond movies.   Now, the anti point here is that uuuuuuh it's fucking impossible to find a non-illegal link to watch this movie because modern movie distribution companies are just that, companies. And someone in a fucking boardroom has made the decision that preserving movies like this simply isn't worth it.   So here's a podcast episode about a reasonably ok movie, largely to make a wider point about movie preservation.

It's always so hard to lose them like this... I'd only just recovered from the untimely demise of 'the character Sharkey from the movie License to Kill', and now I have to deal with a whole other wave of pain.

Alright frankly I consider this to be payback for the Casino Royale fakeout, and I think we should agree to call it even on this.   A few days ago, we reached a million downloads on Podbean.
